Hi all,
Could someone please advise me if i have a XDA1 or a paperweight, I use a XDA2, but as i had a old 32MB XDA1 with what looked like the version befor PPC2002 i thort i would be clever and put a 2003 rom on it.
its a uk 900/1800 PW10A1 device, anyway with delay i dowloaded the latest 2003 rom i could find ( T-Mobile 2003 4.21 beta) anyway i put the relevent file on a SD ard and upgraded that way.
As this had lots of T-Mobile bits i did not wont i found a older non network branded 2003 rom. but my problem is the devve is now listed as a PW10B1, and of ocrse i cant use 1800 anymore, ( iam in the uk and was going to use it on Orange (1800),
I have read throught the forum and tried many ways to fix this with various roms and then in the phone section changing bands , also bootloader all with no affect, the best i can get is a fresh earlie clean 2003 rom but only working 900mhz.
Dose anyone have any ideas last resorts how i can make it work on 1800 like it did befor i jumped in head first and not reading that the t-mobile 2003 rom will make it a 900/1900 device
any idea even if it compleetly kills it it was wort a try
Thanks
John
do a search in the forums there have been tons of posts about how you downgrade the radio stack
personaly i dont know because
the main reason we use xdatools to upgrade our devices to
so we can use the nbf file only making sure the radio stack is not
messed with
Thanks Rudegar
I have tried downgrading the radio, some times it works and sometimes it dose not I either end up with no radio or as i have at the moment a radio stuck on 900mhz, i have found 6 or 7 different radios but none will let me use 1800,
Is there a way i can kill the radio the hopefully get it to restore to the original
Thanks
John

ok fellas ...
i went from :
rom version: 3.17.03 ENG
rom date: 5/15/03
radio version : 4.17
to the upgrade :
rom version: 4.00.16 ENG T-Mobile US
rom date: 7/10/03
radio version : 4.17.00
courtesy of www.yorch.net
however the phone still can not pick up a signal ..
with upgrade i have not been able to switch GSM band from 900/1800 to 900 or 1900 successfully through the wallaby bootloader (after changes are made i can not get out of bootloader without doing a hard reset) also note the xda developers band switch tool is also present but reads error
also note
before the upgrade
my device model no. PW10A1
after upgrade
my device model no. PW10B1
not sure if im getting any closer to the solution but im still happy at this point i havent burned up the unit ...
perhaps it is still an issue of the radio version 4.17.00 (which is the only thing i havent fooled with yet)
any thoughts on trying the radio upgrades from www.yorch.net (under upgrades) ??
if this doesnt kill me it will surely make me stronger ... i will throw a party with beer for everyone if we can get this turkey running !!
thanks again folks !
Have you tried removing sim card prior to gsm switch in bootloader then reinserting after reboot?.
yes i have tried that as well ...
still no luck :?

I had a similar problem on one of the units I have. It ended up that I had to redo the radio to get it working again. The radio from yorch's should be fine.
TMO 4.10.00, RS 6.24.01
I upgraded my XDA I with this .exe file and everything went perfect. Search this forum on RUU or 4.10.00 and you should find the link to the file (~18M). TMO is pretty much locked on ROM4.10.00, Radio 6.24.01 still needs some work, still having problems only with NorTel Networks equipment. Hope this helps you.

it is my dream ... no mission at this point to find this upgrade .... can anyone point me in the right direction? :?
thanks
Your "mission"
Your mission should be to practise with the search buttom associated with the Upgrading It forum, at top of page next to FAQ button, to find what you're looking for!
thanks for the mission co ordinates .. but i have actually tried the search option believe it or not ... before i posted ... also have tried the link via the ftp that was suggested .. just cant seem to located it ...
stumped :?
Hi eurowerks !

Hey eurowerks you need to use a program like CuteFTP or WS_FTP LE
to get to this site as well!
CuteFTP can be found at:

thanks a bunch qman ...
the ftp download was a success
i am now running ..
rom : 4.01.00 eng
rom date : 10/27/03
radio version : 6.24.01
still no luck with it picking up a signal for the phone ... i have removed the sim ... and even switched between 900 and 1900 and still cant get a signal ...
any ideas? anyone ... please :?
It might be your SIM card so try it in another phone and see if it works.
If so try upgrading to the AT&T Radio stack its what I use.
HTH
i really cant believe it is the sim as it works fine in my other phone .. so i tried to do the radio uprade ...
from 6.24.01
to a.20.10
i was a bit skeptical as it is an at&t stack and i am using t mobile usa ..
dloaded it from yorch ... opened it in the windows directory of the xda as they say ... and it says something like upgrade failed.. press ok to restart
:?
says to be sure the path is correct and none of the files are missing ... perhaps there is something i am missing ...
also wondering how dangerous this radio upgrade is ... been reading some horror stories about others that have ruined their devices trying the upgrades .. but after all this is the 3rd rom ive installed so i figured what could a radio upgrade hurt ... anyways .. still no luck ..

Confirming you copied all of the below files to your Windows root folder
RSUpgrade.exe
RSUpgrade.cp64
monitor_ul_bs.map
monitor_ul_bs.m0
and the upgrade still failed with a be sure path is correct and none of the files are missing? BTW your old radio stack is still in tact since it failed in
this way. Just remove any leftover upgrade links from your Startup folder.
How dangerous is upgrading the radio stack you ask? Its the most dangerous upgrade you can do in my book and should be only do as a last resort in getting your phone to work.
Also I can understand why you're skeptical as to it being an AT&T radio stack, most are but its the most powerful radio stack to date in my book and I've used them all (US that is). Your device must really be in bad shape to knock it down!
BTW what part of the US are you located?

yes the above files were all copied to the windows folder of the xda .. not too sure about what u mean by root folder ... but they were opened within the windows folder ... :?
i did remove the files after it failed .. perhaps i should just be happy the pda works and it powers on ...
anyways im here on the east coast (nyc) .. lemme know if anyone comes up with anything else ... also wondering ... has anyone tried the upgrade from the siemens web site ?? i think it is something like A.20.17 .. im assuming it is a radio upgrade as well ?
question re. radio upgrades ..
is performing the upgrade by opening the exe file on the device standing alone the risky part? :? since upgrading the rom also has the radio upgrade within it and it is done while connected to the pc on the cradle with activsync perhaps that makes it safer ... ??

The A.20.17 upgrade contains both ROM and radio stack upgrade. The ROM is AT&T's most current Pocket PC 2002 update.
As far as the radio stack failure goes it can happen either way but its best not to have your device connected to the PC while doing it though!

Hey guys ...
The point is what is the actual type of the device A or B. Forget what's is shown in the device info as it can ve changed buy a wrong ROM or RSU upgrade. Refer to the device sticker in the device back side. If the device is A type then it's only 900 or 900/1800 type ... don't ever try to switch to any 1900 option as it may ruin the Radio part. If it's B then you can select the 1900 if your network supports this band. Don't forget also to switch it in the phone settings since now you have 4.01.00.
As Peter Poelman said, try to select the right band from the bootloader and soft reset more than once. Usually it takes many trials.
Good luck ...
Hello,
I know that I should'nt have do that, but I need your help.
I upgrade my MDA on the following state :
Rom : 4.01.16 Eng
RSU : 4.21.00
For buisness reson I have to go back to the original state.
Rom : 3.18.01 ENG
RSU : 3.23.00
Unfortunatly I didn't do a Backup
I have acces to some MDA with the originale rom and rsu
My question is how to go back to the originale state, without destroying the other mda with the originale rom? via bootloader?
Thanks in advance
The ROM part is easy, you can get the original 3.18 ENG from the carrier devices site http://www.carrierdevices.com.au/downloads.php?region=Asia Pacific
The RSU might be your nightmare especially that you have 4.21 which showed to be the pain for most people here ... anyway, in the same site you will find RSU 3.25 for Qtek ... it's almost the same as 3.23.
Good luck
Biso007 Thanks for you answer,
I look at your link but it seems to be the Qteck version, I really need the officiale t-mobile version.
Is there any way to save the originale one in one of the other phone that I have access and restore to my one?
Biso: Is the rom found in http://www.carrierdevices.com.au/downloads.php?region=Asia Pacific WM2003? What radio version it contain? Is it compatible with PW10B1 device?
I'm now running T-Mobile ROM 4.01.16 ENG, Radio 6.25.02. I'm plannning to change the Radio to be compatible with Asia-Pacific and in the US (I've been going to Asia and back to the States for business, so I want a device compatible with both Asia-Pacific and US). Thanks
ok I Download the old version on a new phone via OSimagetool to my sd card and put it on my device. working perfectly.
So now I just have to downgrade the radio stack to 3.23.00, where I can find it and how to downgrade?
I download the file here
http://www.t-mobile.at/business/mobiles_arbeiten/MDA/SWupdates/
Looks like it's working, (at least I have the right number at startup)
the only problems that I had it's that rhe rsupgrade was lauch every time I startup, I had to delete the file rsupgrade on startup folder. now it's working like before.
Thanks a lot.
By the way, does it exist a solution in mda to copy contact name to the sim card?

No, it's PPC2002 and the RSU is 3.25 for PW10A devices (900/1800). I know it coz it was on my device before I replace the mother board with a B-type one.
If you are going to use 900 MHs network in Asia you can keep your current RSU ... I have it on my device and my network is 900/1800 ... other than this you better use 2 phones or get a new XDA II

Dealing with the SIM book is a matter of s/w and the device type (XDA or MDA or ... ) has nothing to do with it. You can find many freeware s/w to deal with the SIM entries.
ok thanks a lot, do you just have the name of one of this freeware?
try this http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=7496
don't work for me

always looking for gsm phone.
Say choose flexport extra if you have running voice gsm installed on this device, but i dont have the option.
My O2 XDA PW10A1 (as labeled on the back of the device) is identified as PW10B1 in Device Information after updated to wm2003 a30.09 and RSU4.21. How can I get it identified correctly?
PS. Someone told me that there are two different RSU4.21 radios, one is for EU,the other is for Asia.Is there any differences between these two radios?Where can I download a RSU 4.21 radio for Asia?
It doesnt change anything, your phone is still 900/1800 band. If your phone works ok with the existing radio stack I would suggest leaving it alone as upgrading radio stacks can be very risky.
Updating the OS ROM to the correct version will change the iD. Changing the Radio stack is risky and could leave your phone as a paper weight.
When updating I highly suggest the SD method.
Thanks a lot
Thanks guys, for your great suggestions.
same here...
i upgraded OS when i was in phone settings it changes my band to 1900 , now i cant back it to normal state when i may use phone...
any solution how to change this band again to normal not 900/1900 ?
HEEELP:/ i need phone operating in next 30 mins :/
solved..
I changed band using bootloader
LONG LIVE XDA DEVELOPERS!
Hi. I started with an AT&T Siemens SX-56 with XDA Developers final 2002 software.
After burning my own 2003 ROM with Lumpi's kitchen, I installed from USB cradle. No probs.
Then I tweaked a new ROM, but it wouldn't work with USB. I had to upgrade it by SD method. Worked fine.
Don't ask me why (maybe I like having all newest versions), but I upgraded the radio using T-Mobile's 2003 updater.
I've since burned a new ROM I made in the kitchen.
My question is: I now have Wallaby Bootloader 5.22, T-Mobile kitchen ROM 4.10.16ENG 02/04/04, and Radio Stack 6.25.02. GSM Band doesn't work anymore. Is there one that will work?
I can sucessfully use Wallaby menu and change back and forth from 1900 to 900/1800, no problem, but,
1) is that the only way I can do it when I travel back and forth to Europe?
2) can I downgrade the Radio stack?
3) what versions (in your opinions) of ROM and Radio are the best/most stable/whatever...? (Internet isn't so important to me, but good cellphone signal is)
Thanks a million!
I love this site! Awesome!!!!!!
-Alex
p.s. If anyone has questions about SX56 and how to get stuff to work and what happens when you try things, just ask! I've got a spare one I do all my testing on...[/b]
I used 6.24.01 and 6.25.02 RSUs with 900 MHz ... in general there is almost no difference ... both are performing in an acceptable manner. However, I have a personal feeling that 6.24.01 was a bit more stable (I maybe wrong tho).
In all cases, as long as you have a good RSU don't touch it ... it's a risky process unless there is a real need. I didn't try the GSM band switcher my self, but I heard it requires soft reset after.
Hi, i recently got this MDA II from a friend and finally succeeded in updating it to WM5 and ROM Version 1.72xxxxx T-Mobile (can't remember all the Numbers).
It work's perfectly for everything i wanted it for (Navi, etc.), except for phone calls. After entering the PIN it just says: Searching or No Service.
I tried a SIM from T-Mobile Austria (from where the MDA comes), and also one from Hutchinson Austria (3) - Same Prob. I also tried to unlock it with the unlock tool located on this frorum. I got no error but it told me that the phone already seems to be unlocked.
It's not a big deal for me because i never intended to use it as a phone replacement, but somehow it's bothering me a bit.
I don't know if the ROM upgrade from 1.6xxx to 1.72xxx is the Problem. To tell the true i don't even know from where I got this newer ROM. The only thing i know it was not from T-Mobile Austria.
I already found a Version from T-Mobile Austria (RUU16008GER_TMobile), but this Version is very old and I don't know if it's worth the risk of downgrading.
Can someone please give me an advice on what to do?
Thanks in advance
first of all then 1.66 and 1.72 are not wm5 roms at all they are just the last offical roms for these devices and they are wm2003 roms
second then they are roms not radiostacks (radiostacks are the software for the gsm module)

list of various radeostacks
personaly i use 1.19
Thank you, as you can see i'm a total newbee to this topic.
Is there somwhere a detailed manual for upgrading the radiostacks?
HimaUpgradeUt.exe
upgrade
rom if nk.nbf is present in the dir
and
radiostack if Radio_.nbf is present in the dir
so if you want to upgrade the radiostack along with the rom
one just make sure both of the files are present in the dir
if one wish to upgrade 1 of the 2 simply remove the other nbf file
same deal with extended rom
Thank you
Ok, i tried the 1.19 Radio Stack together with the Hima_-_Helmi_AKU3.5_ROM_SP2 ROM.
The update progress proceeded fine but i still have the same problem.
edit: Wow after 5 Minutes i've got a connection with A1 (right now i'm trying a Hutschinson SIM witch connects via GPRS automatically to A1)
Ok, i tried Roms Stack 1.19, 1.17 and 1.08.
On some certain locations i get a signal, but in general the signal is very poor.
I'm not shure but maybe the couse of the problem is the phones hardware itself, and not the software?
maybe
dont know about where you live but here i dont have too many issues
but the htc phones i had have in general had a poor signal then nokia and the likes
and poor conversation quality
you could try giving other sim cards a go as some older sims have had issues with htc phones in the past
I just wanted to inform everyone that you where right (again ).
Today i tried a newer Prepaid SIM from A1.
Now i get a full Signal from everywere in my house.
