I'm trying to unlock my phone using the serial cable but can't get a connection.
The hand held unit just shows it trying to connect to a default 115200 and shows a retry attempt and then stops. It just keeps going through the same loop.
Has anybody else seen this problem and no what to do?

Greets gang,
Several days ago I started getting the subject message appearing in my WinXP system tray. It was on my Gateway laptop and it would appear over and over again, citing 'Unknown Device' when you'd click the annoying ballon. My Jam wasn't even connected at the time.
I basically blew everything away and restored my laptop to factory original settings. Problem persisted. I thought it might be hardware, but the message has now disappeared, only re-appearing when I plug in my Jam. My USB Bluetooth dongle plugs in fine, no errors.
Someone else had bent pins on their USB port or plug--I see none. Anyone else have issues with this, or can anyone offer some help?
Presumably you have installed (re-installed) Active Sync on the PC? As you may already know, as standard the JAM and many other PPCs are not recognised by the computer unless Active Sync is installed [properly].
www.softick.com provide an excellent utility to have your PPC recognise as a removable drive without using Active Sync.
Yes, ActiveSync has been installed & re-installed. New development? I plugged in an 80Gb external hard-drive to that laptop and Winblows is telling me its connected to a non-hi-speed USB port, which it is not. Could be something there.
I'm going to re-flash the Jam to factory ROM, then I will dig into the USB issue.
I had this problem and I tracked it down to the fact that I had picked up the wrong cable!
Same connector but for my camera
The wrong cable thing may very well have been it, but I was also having probs with an external hard drive I was using. I ended up rebuilding my laptop twice and now things seem to be fine. What a drag.

I have the same problem.
It seems, this problem appears mostly on laptops, not on PCs?
I tried to uninstall\install, repair with all ActiveSync data removal or leaving it - No result.
Also, tried to replace the cable (which is ok, im sure with the one from the camera) - No result.
Temporary way out: do Off\On with qtek9000 on cable connect.
Another way out: Turn On the "Enable all incoming beams" flag in Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Beam (this path may vary depend on your Universal brand name). As I seldom need to connect via IR to other devices, I have switched this option off to consume power.
DOES ANY BODY KNOW, HOW TO FIX THIS BUG?? Any Ideas?

it seems dat a noob like me at last can give a help
i have the same problem last time, and as i trace it down, the problem lies on the cable.
as u know that we all use mini usb (usb cable type b) for our o2 mini, but not all type b cable support pc connection, some will only give charging access
i have 2 mini usb cables, one comes from my external hdd, and the other is i buy it myself. the difference is that the 1 i bought actually have a shorter connector (maybe the problem due to this)
so try to buy another cable, as i don't know any other way (reinsatalling pc os, hard-reset device or reinstalling active sync won't solve the problem)
NB. both cables are working when i plug it to my external hdd, so maybe the cable is not faulty. one of the advantage that i got is that i can charge my mini without disabling the active sync usb connection
sorry for my bad english
i can almost essentially confirm that it is NOT the usb cable.. I have been using a usb cable i had around the house for syncing my phone, and it has worked perfectly ever since I first received the phone (over half a year ago), but all of a sudden, i plugged in my device, and received the "usb device not recognized" error message... does anyone know the cause of this?
Ever since I turned off "Accept all incoming beams" to conserve battery power, and others who have upgraded to the new O2 Exec ROM v1.13.188 (which does this automatically), there seems to be a problem with sync'ing the Universal with the PC via USB with an error message "Windows cannot recognize the device... etc."
A remedy that I found:
1) run the "Wireless Modem" application in Universal (make sure your phone is turned on)
2) select "IR"
3) start and stop the modem
This apparently refreshes the USB, and allows the PC to recognize the Universal again.

EDIT: And, of course, the second workaround - to keep the "Accept all incoming beams" swith ON
are you plugging in via a usb hub? i get this sometimes if i plug in my Exec via a usb port on my monitor. if i plug in directly via the front or back of my pc it generally is ok.
one thing i try is when its plugged in and it gives you that message, turn off the device. it should still be charging. now leave it 10-20 seconds and turn the device on. it then normally "kicks in" for me.
i also find stopping Activesync on the Exec then plugging in the device can get it to work.
theres definately a problem somewhere...
btw i havn't loaded the new rom
i get the problem when I plug in to a hub also, but rarely directly.
if i get it by direct connect, a reset normally rectifies. sometimes i also have reset the pc as well as the ppc
Ok, ive got activesync working fine on one of my pcs but on the other it disconnects after about 3 mins. both have identical software antivirus/firewall-wise the only difference is one has a hardware modem/wireless router(the non-working one) and the other uses a wireless usb hub to connect to the internet.
Ive tried pulling the ethernet cable from the back of the non-working pc to no avail, disabling windows firewall etc but nothing stops it disconnecting after about 3-4 minutes.
Ive tried all the suggestions regarding tcp/ip, they were already correct as were the dhcp ones.
im completely baffled by this
the wmstorage program works for a bit longer but gives the error "the device is unavailable due to an i/o error" after about 5 minutes
anyone have a clue why this is happening?
Odd question to ask. Is your unit set to switch off after 3 mins? Just check if the device is on/off (you can have the backlight off, but you should able to see something on the screen) when the activesync disconnect.
on battery power its set to 2 mins but on external (usb?) its unticked. it works ok on the other pc though thats the thing so i assume its a pc settings issue
As you plugged into the PC directly (not through a USB Hub)? USB hubs have been known to cause problems.
im using a usb extension cable straight into the usb 2.0 card , the only other device is a printer and the keyboard which share a usb hub on another port.
The cable works fine with other devices ie digital camera/camcorder so its not a faulty cable.
Im using a hub on the pc that works (and its only usb1.1) and it shares with the wireless dongle
One thing i did used to get while transferring data was the avg email scanner popping up while my ipaq (which worked fine) was connected. i disabled the email scanner to see if it helped and rebooted but it was no different
ok-think ive fixed it-the (brand new) usb cable must have been faulty cos i connected the mda cable straight into the pc and it worked
thanks for all your help
I have recently changed the screen of my Trinity and all was succesfull. the phone works perfectly. However, when I connect the USB cable to the phone, it does not connect to active sync. The phone battery charges though as the orange LED lights on. I am not sure as to whether this is related to the fact that I opend up the phone to replace the screen or whether it is software related. I have tried another phone with the same cable on the same pc and it works so it's definately something wrong with my phone and not the pc. Help is much appreciated. Thanks
Some Thing To Mine
It hapened after a tentative to connect to a exchange server wireless.
Same problem-USB sync not functioning
whenever i connect the usb cable phone to my PC n laptop, both display the error message "usb device not recognize". something must have gone wrong with my d810, how to determine whether it's a software or hardware related problem, my usb charging still working.
open the AS-progam on the Phone and go to the menu (bottom right). If there be an entry "Connections..." open this.
There can be a checkbox "Syncronize all PCs...". mark it and select under this line the USB-Entry.
Now the sync shoult work.
When I plug my Touch HD in to my PC by USB i get the following message "Warning, The device doesn't support the USB head set, please remove it"
Any ideas?
if it's the pc i would suspect that it's an usb driver issue
or a 3th party program giving the msg
i would try another computer to verify this
seems to be doing it on all computers.
The computer finds the phone for a few seconds then i get the error message and the phone dissappears from the explorer.
The phone still charges though
I have 2 touch hd's and its only happening with the one.
Is this an issue anyone else has encountered? Could the USB port be damaged? If so where can I get it repaired and how much am I looking at?
