When I plug my Touch HD in to my PC by USB i get the following message "Warning, The device doesn't support the USB head set, please remove it"
Any ideas?
if it's the pc i would suspect that it's an usb driver issue
or a 3th party program giving the msg
i would try another computer to verify this
seems to be doing it on all computers.
The computer finds the phone for a few seconds then i get the error message and the phone dissappears from the explorer.
The phone still charges though
I have 2 touch hd's and its only happening with the one.
Is this an issue anyone else has encountered? Could the USB port be damaged? If so where can I get it repaired and how much am I looking at?

Greets gang,
Several days ago I started getting the subject message appearing in my WinXP system tray. It was on my Gateway laptop and it would appear over and over again, citing 'Unknown Device' when you'd click the annoying ballon. My Jam wasn't even connected at the time.
I basically blew everything away and restored my laptop to factory original settings. Problem persisted. I thought it might be hardware, but the message has now disappeared, only re-appearing when I plug in my Jam. My USB Bluetooth dongle plugs in fine, no errors.
Someone else had bent pins on their USB port or plug--I see none. Anyone else have issues with this, or can anyone offer some help?
Presumably you have installed (re-installed) Active Sync on the PC? As you may already know, as standard the JAM and many other PPCs are not recognised by the computer unless Active Sync is installed [properly].
www.softick.com provide an excellent utility to have your PPC recognise as a removable drive without using Active Sync.
Yes, ActiveSync has been installed & re-installed. New development? I plugged in an 80Gb external hard-drive to that laptop and Winblows is telling me its connected to a non-hi-speed USB port, which it is not. Could be something there.
I'm going to re-flash the Jam to factory ROM, then I will dig into the USB issue.
I had this problem and I tracked it down to the fact that I had picked up the wrong cable!
Same connector but for my camera
The wrong cable thing may very well have been it, but I was also having probs with an external hard drive I was using. I ended up rebuilding my laptop twice and now things seem to be fine. What a drag.

I have the same problem.
It seems, this problem appears mostly on laptops, not on PCs?
I tried to uninstall\install, repair with all ActiveSync data removal or leaving it - No result.
Also, tried to replace the cable (which is ok, im sure with the one from the camera) - No result.
Temporary way out: do Off\On with qtek9000 on cable connect.
Another way out: Turn On the "Enable all incoming beams" flag in Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Beam (this path may vary depend on your Universal brand name). As I seldom need to connect via IR to other devices, I have switched this option off to consume power.
DOES ANY BODY KNOW, HOW TO FIX THIS BUG?? Any Ideas?
Qtek9000 with laptop Toshiba Satellite Pro \ Win XP SP2
it seems dat a noob like me at last can give a help
i have the same problem last time, and as i trace it down, the problem lies on the cable.
as u know that we all use mini usb (usb cable type b) for our o2 mini, but not all type b cable support pc connection, some will only give charging access
i have 2 mini usb cables, one comes from my external hdd, and the other is i buy it myself. the difference is that the 1 i bought actually have a shorter connector (maybe the problem due to this)
so try to buy another cable, as i don't know any other way (reinsatalling pc os, hard-reset device or reinstalling active sync won't solve the problem)
NB. both cables are working when i plug it to my external hdd, so maybe the cable is not faulty. one of the advantage that i got is that i can charge my mini without disabling the active sync usb connection
sorry for my bad english
i can almost essentially confirm that it is NOT the usb cable.. I have been using a usb cable i had around the house for syncing my phone, and it has worked perfectly ever since I first received the phone (over half a year ago), but all of a sudden, i plugged in my device, and received the "usb device not recognized" error message... does anyone know the cause of this?
Hi
I am having a problem with my Wizard. This weekend i was taken by surprise by a downpour and my phone somehow got wet. At first it didn't seem like a big deal, everything seemed to work just fine but on monday when i got back to the office and tryied to sync my phone i've noticed the problem.
The thing is that it can't get an ip, the connection (usb) reports limited or no connectivity and can't get an IP thus, can't sync. The phone runs ok, i can get it charged;
Can anyone help?
I dont think so that its because of it getting wet, it might be a problem with your ROM or PC but still wait for advice by someother Senior member too.
There are two main possibilities:
1) If your computer can't seem to connect to the device via USB (it won't show up in the Device Manager, and may trigger an malfunctioning device error), it's possible the water short-circuited your onboard USB controller. This might render a data connection via USB to the host computer impossible while still allowing the device to charge off the Slave voltage pins.
2) If you can connect to your wizard and the device (if, for example, it shows up in the Device Manager), that means that serial communications are working just fine, as, if your computer was able to interpret the USB Device ID, your onboard USB controller is most likely not damaged. In this case, I'd probably try screwing with your ActiveSync settings, and focus on undoing anything you've changed recently, like USB drivers on the host computer or ROM on the device.
When I plug my phone into my usb port I keep getting an error message
That says
USB device not recognized
one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.
So when I do that it says unknown. I know I have the drivers installed because I can odin back to stock. I am thinking this is the reason why wired tether will not work.
Can anyone let me know what the problem may be?
Thanks.
This has happened to me from time to time. A reboot of the pc and phone has always fixed it.
I just realized I have never used this cable with the phone. I got it at walmart and it is made by fuse. So it could be the cable.
Also try a different usb port. Mine got error error messages on some ports but not the other on the same computer.
I bought several usb cables for cheap online. 1 totally stopped working, and another one disconnects the phone is I move the cable.
I always suspect the cable!
I am having the same problem with my laptop atm...
My computer can't seem to see the epic when it's in d/l mode. I've installed the samsung drivers as well...but no go.
Hopefully someone has a suggestion to fix the problem. I'll be seaching the forums in the meantime.
had the same problem try a different usb port aslo dont use usb multi hubs.
I have the same problems as well.
A reboot fixes nothing.
None of my ports work.
I do not want to replace my epic but this simple issue is nerve wrecking.
I have a similar problem. Both my wife and I have the epic. I have no issues connecting my phone to either of our computers but when I connect my wife's epic neither of the computer's see the phone at all (not even as an unrecognized device). The phone asks if I want to mount the sd card and I say yes and nothing happens. I've tried usb debugging and I can't get Odin to work either for hers (fine for mine). Has anyone else had this issue?
Thanks
As the title says, my HTC legend no longer connects to my computer. I thought it was a possible malfunction on the cable, but I've tried different ones and still nothing. It does charge though, but it means I can't transfer files from phone to PC and vice versa.
Anyone else having this problem/know how to fix it?
Its called USB Brick.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912381 3rd or 4th post has a link to fix it,dont quote me on that
I'm having the same issue where it only charges when connected to the PC. The USB option no longer appears in the notification bar. Can you update us if the method in the link above works. Cheers

Try it i used the same method to fix my Magic when it did the same
Hi guys!
I've had a problem over the day with my beloved HD2, and I've started to fear that it might actually be the hardware starting to decay. About a day or two ago, when inserting my phone to the MicroUSB cable, it recognized the HD2 just fine, had access too USB mount, ADB and all of that. Transfered some music to the SD-card (Trancent 16gigs Class 4, btw - still very well recognized by the phone to the time at writing this), but now, some time later I get nothing out of connecting the phone to either my laptop or rig.
I know it's not the drivers or the cable, since I've tried with others cables and a few other computers. The message is the same old "The device could not be recognized". But the funny thing is, somehow the device must know that its connected to a computer anyway, 'cause it instantly enables debugging and the option to enable mount. I, as of now, has had no luck getting into the SD card, sadly. Not even been able to pull logcats or anything, setting up wireless ADB hasn't been sucessful either - so where I stand now, I'm kinda in need for a helping hand.
Has anyone else ever had this problem too, or am I left out in the cold?
By the way, even managed to put on an older nightly CM9 build, as it was stored on my SD. No luck there either. MAGLDR mount / recovery mount doesn't function either. Same error.
The ROM I first had the problem on was PARANOIDANDROID v0.6. Then a nightly CM9 from sometime last week. Both immensely close to stock and ICS based. LEO512, by the way.
Please, give me a hand!
TL;DR: USB broken, still charging, help.
Your usb is getting loose (usb data connection becomes irratic and then stops working, continued use results in USB port ripped from mainboard), try to not use it while plugged in and see if the repair shop can fix it for you without breaking usb data. You can use the SwiFTP app in playstore to transfer files in the mean time.
You may also want to use a cradle charger to minimize USB port being used.
