Hello everybody; Sorry for this silly question, but it seems i cannot fully power off my smartphone in order to have it full charge the battery whithout the phone being on. By this i mean the smartphone totaly powered off and not only having deactivated the radio section of the phone which deals with the mobile phone section of the appliance and the bluetooth ; When i press on the power button, the only thing that happens is that the display switches off and not the smartphone; I was accustomed to a real switch off on my other smartphone P900 withj symbian UIQ 7.0
Have i missed something or is this condition a feature /bug of the phone or microsoft windows mobile 2003?
Thanking you all in advance for any input i remain

Hi, I'm new here. Just known XDA II for two weeks.
About ur question, I think it's not a bug but rather a feature. U can turn off the phone by click the phone icon at the top bar.
I would hate it if I can't power off the pda without the phone is on.
'cause when I sleep I really don't need the pda section.
Hi
Yes, you missed something...
A "real" power-down is similar to a hard-reset, and believe me, you won't do a hard-reset if it is not totally necessary.
The XDA unpackes the program files at powerup into its sdrams and keeps the data in the sdrams when it is switch off. Of course this sdrams need power to keep the data.
Otherwise, you can still remove the battery
But, I agree, it would be interessting to know how long the battery lastest when the phone is switch off.
regards,
actually, you CAN remove the battery
after all, the battery IS removable.... and intended to be replaced.
But then your PPC will be on the "backup battery" and 30 minutes
later you will lose all your data. too bad.
The fact is, not only you absolutely cannot turn this thing off,
if you're down to 5% power and will be awhile before you
plug it for more power,
YOU BETTER TURN IT OFF AND TURN THE PHONE OFF
if you somehoe run down the battery to zero with a phone call,
you will have a hard reset in 30 minutes ....
this is all the result of the STUPID MS DECISION, long time ago,

It wasn't a bad decision for the time - memory that kept its contents without power was very expensive, and very slow. It's still not great. Symbian went the no-power memory route, and the earlier devices (Nokia 9200 series) were crippled by it (CPU underclocked to 56MHz to cope with the memory, and too little memory to do everything people wanted).
Don't forget, you can't just use regular flash memory - it's still too slow, and will wear out with too many write cycles, however a good feature would be a 'hibernate' mode that dumps the static ram to flash ram, and restores on power up. Sort of like the *FlashMan utilities, but actually useful.
Is there a way to stop/disable the flashing lights, particularly the one on the right hand side of the unit?
...my wife hates them flashing and I cannot keep the device in the bedroom at night!!!
Easy one this to solve, move the wife out of the bedroom
I have been looking for a long time for registry hack or a button to disable her alltogether, or to the very least turn off the Voice/sound function, but to date I could not figure it out!!!
Is there anyone out there who can help. I am sure there are millions of men who would be willing to pay for the solution.
My god yes, im so glad im not the only one the wife goes mental with the falshing lights at night
Why not use an indellible marker to paint them out, or for a less "permanent" solution, use a couple of pieces of black insulation tape?
Cheers,
Steve.
put it in a thick winter sock to hide the flash?
Tweaks2k2 was always good at this, unfortunatly it doesn't support turning the LEDs off on the Universal yet.
I'm sure it will only be a matter of time though.

By far the best solution. LOL

The wife cant moan at me as her phone is a samsung e720 which has a really strong blue screen glow.
Anyway if she does moan I wont let her use it in bed when she wants to check her ebay
Put it on charge, noticed last night that lights stop flashing and only orange charge light comes on and does not flash while on charge.

The bluetooth light still flashes though
Then disable bluetooth
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Builtin\AllLEDMgr" should be the control strings for the LEDs
Try to change something there
BalooDK is correct.
Whilst doing some research for VJElectrify yesterday, I came across this aswell.
I really don't recommend it, but navigate to
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Builtin\AllLEDMgr"
and rename the dll value "AllLEDMgr.dll" to "AllLEDMgr.dllVJ".
Ensure the value has been set and soft reset. Ta da! No leds.
However, highly unrecommended since you can't tell when bluetooth is on.
Obviously rename to original name to reverse this effect.
There are other less invasive ways to achieve this, but this seems to work well.
NOTE I strongly recommend you export this registry branch before modifying it. You can cause problems in this area of the registry by accident. It's also easier to just import back the old settings when the wife is out of sight!
V
I tried editing above registry value and the lights stoped.
But after a while ... The lights start flashing again ...
I really really don't understand how.
Then I tried to delete the whole "DLL" Value. After a soft reset, the lights where gone. But again back after a while ...
How is this possible. Does WM5.0 have ARR? (Automatic Registry Rebuilder
P.S. Where is the .dll in explorer? Not in my Windows or system dir.
Need to make VJSTFU-woman One day...

Hey!
me and vijay555 are trying to solve the wife problem very hard, for some time now...
It seems, that at first, the project should be renamed to "Kill wife" instead of "Kill lights".
There seems to be a solution for that...
buzz
Try applying the Gucci_HandBag_v0.5 patch. I find that it provides a temporary solution.
However, as Buzz says, we've found better results by twisting her display area back on itself a couple of times. Her buttons will seem to light up, but the rest of the unit will provide adequate functionality without the irrating bugs. Just don't forget to enable the HKLU > IHaveAnAlibi registry setting first

Hi! I just got my bell ppc-6800 and everything is great, except the led on the top left corner is always on. Sometimes it is a dim green, other times brightblue, but mostly it does both at the same time but just blinks rapidly (like a dying fluorescent lightblub).
Before I take it back to the manufacturer, just wanted to see if anyone else had this problem and hope that there is an easy fix for this. Other then that the phone works great, but just want to make sure it will work ok
[edit]Turns out the phone was just defective. Got it replaced right over the counter for free. Thanks for the help though![/edit]
It is probably physically broken. You should replace the phone or have it repaired.
Personally, the LEDs on my phone constantly blink like mad and at one point I turned them off by disabling the AllLEDMgr driver only to find out that this driver also controls vibration.
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\AllLEDMgr]
"Index"=dword:00000001
do you have the 6800 hacks download on there from www.trianglepowers.com
I had it on my 6700 and it was the first thing I loaded on my 6800. It allows you to turn off all the flashing lights ~ my bedroom no longer looks like the airport at night!
but I agree ~ sounds like you may have a lemon, and there may be more problems in the near future ~ I'd get it swapped out if at all possible!
I have heard of others having this problem and they need to exchange their phones.

[SOLVED]
Ok, so I took it back to the store. After an hour and a half between people in the store, people that owned the phone that were in the store, and people over the phone while I was in the store... I got my phone replaced!
But this does seem to be a problem affecting some units. I didn't get any details as to which model numbers this affects, but if you are a Bell user with strange LED issues, take it back and you will probably get it exchanged right over the counter for free.
P.S.: I tried the programs mentioned, and they still did not work. Actually, the LED was still mis-behaving even if the battery was removed and then put back in, BEFORE the phone had even gone through the HTC boot sequence (not even turned on yet).
@All,
As a celebration for my 1000th post, I decided to open a new thread based on Tweakman's idea, which seemed to work very well in the Development and Hacking Section. The idea is simple, a single thread for all Questions, Problems, and Concerns regarding Blue Angel. This includes, but it is not limited to:
[highlight]*Problems with Flashing.[/highlight]
Can't get your device in bootloader? Did it freeze during flashing and now it doesn't get past the 4 colored screen? Are you a complete noob and need some guidance as to how to flash? Etc.
[highlight]*Have questions about which Rom is best?[/highlight]
[highlight]*Want to install software but don't know if it is compatible with your BA[/highlight]
You get my point. All the questions that I have seen/answered over the past couple of months are just repetitions of posts, threads, and things that are readily available on the wiki or in other threads. However, people are either lazy, don't know what a Wiki is / where to find it, or just flat out don't know how to search (or read the forum rules for that matter). Having something general (in this case a sticky) that says "Hey, if you have a question, you can ask here" should draw enough attention and start minimizing the number of new threads and posts opened by users (both new and seasoned). This way, we will be able to keep the development threads a little cleaner and smaller... hence making the site's search function work a little better in the process.
@Seniors,
Kinda like the Q&A team, I will need your help in trying to keep the influx of questions to a certain level by answering them as we see them. None of us are logged in 24/7 (or at least some of us aren't ), but if you guys see a question, please try to answer it. I know that xplode, Chef_Tony, markanthonypr, red_hanks, sun_dream, imatrix, +Que_PPC, motisu, and others normally try to keep this under control, but if we centralize it and contain it, we will have a cleaner forum.
Reserved for future use.

Hey homam,
Thanks for kicking things off
First of all, which OS were you having problems with? This is important because it could have been a bug in a rom that could have been fixed in a later version.
@mark,
I know I can count on you, buddy I need help from the mods as well though. I cannot redirect posts to here and/or close threads
My BA, keeps turning on from standby, by a light shock! I maen, if you press the Power button, and then you knock gently on it's back, it turns back on!!
I've set to "Lock all buttons except the power button", However, I still have this issue.
Well, I must confess that once it dropped off of my hand, and it's the result of that...
Any ideas?
by "it turns back on" i assume you mean it wakes up from stand by, it doesn't really start like after a soft reset, right?
since the BA's only battery activated wake-up is in the cradle and we are not talking about soft reset, my first guess is, the battery is not to blame.
have you checked whether you can use your camera at all time? i mean, the camera_detect does not usually run at all times but if the camera connector is a little lose, from now and then it could "discover" the new camera hardware and wake up, that is unlikely for normal devices, but if yours had a crash before...
you could refer to this site for checking possible hardware reasons:
http://www.land-of-kain.de/ppc/mda3/disassembly/
the hardware things aside, there are also many possible software reasons for the device to wake up on:
- update of titanium weather
- automatic email checking
- cell broadcast
- if bluetooth is on
- if beam is on
- automatic update of any software...
plus of course the usual:
- incoming call
- incoming text message
- incoming mms
- upcoming calendar event...
so please check the possible software wake ups first to make sure this is really a hardware issue, because that would be a shame, that could be tricky to solve.
or let me put it this way, if it is really the moving that wakes it up, you have the first BA with accelerometer
EDIT: last but not least, it could only be a bug, maybe a hard reset or change of the rom could also be a way to go, since spontaneous waking up is a known bug for BAs
Chef_Tony
If there was only a way to hack the hardware and make this work at least on Edge. I can live with everything else, but its a shame paying for a full unlimited Internet service and only getting G connection Sighhhhhhh
Ok, I had to let that frustration out !!!!!!

Wow! Tony! I really appreciate your complete answer. I mean it.
Yes, as you correctly assumed, I meant wake-up. It just wakes up and continues the routine WinMo operation; no soft-reset occurs.
It's less than a year that I've replaced the battery with a new one. I remember all the funny things used to happen when the old battery was dying. But non of them were similar to this one.
It can't be the Camera. Well, I'm able to use it all the time, and the "camera_detect" has been always loaded in the processes whenever I've checked it. About the looseness thing, ummm, I'm not sure. I tried to knock on it to see if it's more sensitive than other parts. I think the upper part of the device is more likely to wake it up by an easy hit (like knocking). but it's the whole upper part, not only the camera section nor the camera button.
Unfortunately, the software possibility, is unlikely to be the problem:
I've used many ROMs on my lovely BA which 3-4 times of them taken place since the wake-up problem.
The software and the usual reasons you counted, do wake it up. but shakes, too.
Finally, to be honest, I'm agree with you! This is the first Blue Angel with accelerometer. yeaaah! I did it!
I bet my friends that I can wake my BA up, without touching any buttons or screen! It's fun this way, but I comes to be annoying when I put it in my pocket or just put it on a table! and it wakes up... consider the forced battery consumption, unwanted screen taps if I don't lock the screen. God bless A_C! and... .
I know it's a hardware issue (((((
@raizaM: My Thought.... Have you ever taken it apart? One of my BA's had 3 loose bolts inside. All 3 were from what I think is the Radio/Antenna part at top. However, in my case, I had a rattle going inside. Thats why I put it apart. You might have something loose inside, causing a connection to arc when you knock on your phone. If you do deside to open it, there is a tutorial on the wiki on how to.

Hey mark!
I had that same issue a while back, but with only one screw (also from the same area as yours).
@raizaM
Just to knock off Chef_Tony's theory out of the table completely, try to erase camera_detect.lnk from \Windows\startup and SR your device. If Chef was right, then your issue might be gone. However, I would follow markanthony's advice and take it apart in case Chef's idea doesn't work.
Oh man, your not my hero anymore LoL.. and here I thought I would be the only one with a mechanic inside my phone.

But, I guess sooner or later I need to do so. so what the heck... lets do it.

raizaM: You're not going to go that far deep. Only remove the cover. If you look at picture #4 on that link, the top green area has about 6 bolts all around it. Those were the ones that were loose on mine. 2 of them were rattling inside the phone. I still can't believe they didn't cause a short circuit. You don't need to go down into the camshell area. Do you use the sliding keyboard? If so, you could have a bad flex cable. But, don't worry about tha for now. Just remove back cover and carefull inspect for loose bolts. Don't over tighten them.

It seems that you have the backlight settings set to dim/turn off too fast. Go to \Settings\System\Backlight and modify the settings in there (particularly the ones labeled "On Battery Power"). Then, soft reset the device (stylus on the bottom).
Hope this helps.

not the setting, it got black scren, its dead screen after running wifi or application, suddenly goes dead, black screen,.
Have you tried with another battery? It sounds to me like your battery is about to die. It won't hold the heavy battery consumption of Wi-Fi and heavy CPU usage while on Games. Try with another battery. Also make sure you followed Egzthunders suggestion to change your Power Settings. If you still need help, post back and include more info about your device, such as, what version of Windows are you running and how old/new is your battery.
I'm aware of apps like NoLock which disable the Vibrants lock screens. I was thinking about it and is there really any reason to have a lock screen? Seems like it's just an added step and a potential waste of battery. Thoughts?
To make sure you don't mess **** up if you accidentally hit your power button in your pocket
Right, I was rocking them way back in the day when you could pocket dial your whole phonebook with hardware # buttons, but with the Vibrant I've never noticed messing with the hardware buttons just from it being in my pocket.
Well, actually there are a lot of benefits to having the lock screen.
- You could turn up your ringer in a situation where you need to have it on silent.
- Quickly control music without draining battery by going to the actual music app.
- Seeing what type of notifications you get without pulling out the entire UI.
There are added benefits to disabling the lock screen, but you will probably encounter enough problems to make it not worth it.
true, I hadn't considered the music aspect
How about the fact that it's a secuirty mechanism?
No need for it. It was one of the first things I disabled.
Here's why:
-Accidentally messing it in your pocket somehow? Even if you manage to hit the power button and make it come on, it won't do anything as the screen is activated through electricity of your fingers. That's how it works. Nothing in your pocket can make it do ANYTHING, even if its on. If you REACH in your pocket and its on, then yes, you can hit something.
-Music app. SUPER easy to switch music when you have no lock screen. Simply Hit power button and swipe away anywhere on teh screen to change a song. VERY VERY useful while driving and u can't afford to look at the screen.
-Easier to respond to texts. You don't need to unlock it to do stuff now. MUCH simplifies everything but notifications are especially convinient to deal with.
-ACTUALLY saves battery. Try it. No lock screen will net you NO loss in battery life and is likely to increase it as you won't go through a locking screen every time. You quickly develop a habit of turning it off by the power key when ur done with something and turning it back on when you need it. It's instant, quick, and saves on juice.
I don't know of a SINGLE reason to keep a lock screen except for aesthetics or if you want to prevent people using your phone (in which case its a passworded lockscreen). Those are the only 2 reasons really. . .
how about to check out the time, see missed calls or texts easily because sometime the notification bar is full of notifications, and it is a great way to check the time without people seeing what you have been using in your phone and also it turns off fast so you dont have to press the power button twice.
I wouldn't take it off only because I see more advantages than disadvantages.
Just my two cents.
Better not lose your phones. No lock makes it that much easier to grab your data, regardless if you report it and the phone becomes a brick. Think of all that stuff the person who found it would be able to do. Get a list of your contacts, find the last few places you visited, make calls, etc... An exposed phone would be an identity theives dream.
And just think... you could slow them down with a simple pattern lock. Ignorant not to use that layer.
The security feature is pretty meaningless to me. I'm not ultra scared of someone finding my phone and having my friends and my weed dealers phone numbers.

Okay. Would you mind posting a copy of your contacts in this thread? Most likely not, unless of course you have zero respect for your contacts information, in which case you should let your friends know how wreckless you are being with their data.
The point is, you may not lose this phone or your next or the one after that. It is a fact that unless you take ownership of your information, you put yourself at risk of making details you consider private, public.

Well, different strokes for different folks. I'm rarely ever more than 5 feet away from phone, so I don't worry too much about the security aspect. I do turn it on if I'm going out to a bar or club or something, but otherwise the lock screen just slows me down.

..... or just don't let your kids use your phone as a toy. The lock screen doesn't keep it from going in the toilet if the kid is very young.
The lock screen strikes me as feature-creep.
NoLock was the first non-rooting-related thing I installed.
