Either stick in a SIM that's not supposed to work when locked, or just trust a total stranger of whom you know little more that that he likes to depict himself as a rather psychotic looking character chained by the neck.

Peter, I always thought that was something else in your pic, now i know its a chain it makes sense, I thought it was a well chewed joint being expelled from your mouth. Maybe its me thats psychotic.

thanks
now i just gotta find a way to get my wife's sim out of her sprint phone to try it

Will i get in trouble

I was wondering if I would get in trouble if TMobile find out that I have JFv6.1. Can any tell me what is the punishment
besides voiding your warranty should anything go wrong there wont be any trouble from them
First, there is no need to use all caps, it is much easer on the eyes if you type normally.
Second, no. As we currently understand it, t-mobile does not keep track of who runs what firmware. If they eventually do, it is very unlikely that they would target those using it directly, they would most likely try to just block it in future updates.
so the fbi wont be knocking on my door

i think thats a little overreacting to think that >.<
No but someone might come kick your door in and remove your capslock key. Hopefully they'll kick you in the ass too.
**** relax you all and thanks no more caps for me
wow some people have harsh statements LOL lets keep it civil.
And for those wanting to know T-Mobile now tells you how to do it by directing you to XDA.
That is right on the t-mobile forums they tell you how to root your phone and use JF's firmware.

OP: T-Mobile currently does not have any policy on unlocked and/or modded G1 phones. This came from the mouth of an employee over the phone- the one who pays my phone bill called T-Mobile and asked about it before he allowed me to root my phone.
You have to remember that Android is, after all, supposed to be "open source".
http://forums.t-mobile.com/tmbl/board/message?board.id=87&thread.id=31470
That basically says you can do it, BTW I have yet to hear of anyone actually "bricking" their phone. In fact never heard of anyone really "bricking" an HTC device.
Yeah, rooting your phone doesn't (And probably never will) void your warranty.
jgu71424, i rewrote the OP verbatim but used lower case letters. Next time, just remember to keep it cool because all caps refers to you yelling.

Unlock HTC Touch Diamond 2

Hi everybody,
I'm new to this forum but I signed up to get some help so I expect to get some, I mean, maybe you guys know some things about these complicated phones
Today I bought an HTC Touch Diamond 2, and it will be delivered to me tomorrow. I bought it with an Hi subscription (dutch telecom provider) but my old phone subscription to Orange will only end at October, so thats's quiet a long time waiting. Untill then, I cannot use my Hi sim, so I really really want to put my Orange sim into my HTC Touch Diamond 2. But it's not unlocked, it has a Sim-Lock
So guys, can you please help me unlocking my HTC Touch Diamond 2? Maybe give me a program or something or a code I have to enter? I couldn't find anything on the internet so this is my last hope.
Thanks already!

In your case is Starhub your profider.
Next to Starhub your Singapore has other profiders, try a sim-card from another.
He wanted to say provider,
Basicly your 'operator' or carrier
If your device is SIM locked, like the iPhones,
You cannot call or text anyone without the sim-card from AT&T
If you however sim-unlock your phone, It doesn't matter anymore
Now, I don't think there is a free one just yet... could take a while,
I think it's better to pay for the unlock then...
You could do alot worse than emailing your provider and asking them for a SIM unlock code (include your IMEI in the email).
I did this recently with Vodafone in the UK, expecting them to say it'll cost £££ blah blah blah, but much to my surprise they simply emailed me back with the code.
It all depends on which country you're in and the policy of your provider about unlocking handsets.
At the website of my profider, carrier or operator i can get the unlockcode by SMS!
Try like Mr Anderson discribed in post #9.
As we say in Holland: You have a NO, (Maybe) you can get a YES!

Unlocking bootloader and warranty...

The bootloader unlock says pressing unlock bootloader will void you warranty.. is it possible to lock the bootloader back in the future and if so will the Nexus One still know its bootloader has been previously unlocked?
Im kinda uncomfortable with voiding the warranty on my 530$ phone...
Why does google even do that anyway? You cant do any permanant damage to your phone by changing ROMs...

Tell that to the many people who bricked their G1.
You could try the unlock code and just change "unlock" to "lock" and see what happens. Or, even try and run the unlock one again, see if you get the popup to not continue and see if that relocks it. That's all I can think of.
Ps. I'm not saying either of these options work, they're just ideas. I take no responsibility if you try these and jack your phone.

OUCH..hopefully, you are not one of them.
you CAN NOT brick your android phone by installing a ROM. you CAN brick it by installing a radio or SPL, which is NOT required in the nexus one at all (since the bootloader itself gives you the option to unlock it)

I am well aware of this but unlocking is the first step down that road. When it is locked the potential for damage is more contained. (For the record m G1 has never been bricked. I wait a few weeks to let others take the risks before I jump in, which usually saves me grief.)
Ah the days of the G1 I was kinda hoping that the methods needed to bring the nexus to freedom would be the same as the G1. I spent many-an-hour having a good laugh at those who were too impatient to bother reading certain directions.
I did love my G1 and come tomorrow, I plan to fully love my N1.

That's not true at all... i'm assuming when you say "that road" you mean the road to "brick-dom" and that's just plain wrong. It's not like your unlocked nexus' spl's gonna go flashing radio's and spl's on its own now. It's all about your decisions, so your decision to unlock your bootloader, is independent from your decision to brick your phone.
Regardless, you couldn't brick the nexus the traditional way even if you wanted to... you wouldn't be flashing any different spls

Oh Master, please teach us how.
I am guessing that when you unlock the bootloader, it writes something somewhere that can't ever be unwritten, so even if you flashed the original one back, they'd know.
Some clever ROM hacker will comb through the innards of the N1 and will probably figure out what gets written and figure out how to circumvent it. Just wait a few days...
Not sure if its possible

Hi guys couple of questions if you dont mind HTC HD2 imei

Hi guys had a look around but still not 100% on the answers so ill ask.
( 1 ) I have a fully open networked HTC HD2 came like it out the box so can run any sim. I dont like the phone as in getting app's for it im not big on stuff like that. So im looking to get a new phone what i wont to no is if Ithe IMEI was blocked in the UK could the Phone be used in say the USA if I wonted to sell it ?
( 2 ) If the phone would work out side the UK would it still be open to any network like in the UK?
Thanks silly questions I know and sorry about that.

Since IMEI blacklists are only national (so in the country they were blocked), they will be usable out of the UK. But not inside. Not even with another provider while on vacation in the UK.
erm, are you asking whether you can report your phone lost or stolen, then selling it on?
OH ok thats fine then so if i was to have misplaced my phone then find it againe after its been blocked I could still sell it.
Thanks

About to buy a atrix, anything to look for in particular?

What are some red flags I should look for? I will be getting the phone with an otter box case, lapdock and also a cardock that I will have no use for. The phone and everything is pretty much all brand new and the guy clams it was never rooted or hacked. What are some things I should look for and test besides the obvious? Did these have any screen issues? I just dropped my Galaxy S2 cause of the tremendous screen defects.

Boot it up and check the top left corner of the screen. If it says UNLOCKED then he's lying.
Also, you might want to check for dust under the screen as it could get annoying if you find out later on
Thanks for the swift reply! I was actually gonna be bringing my T-Mobile Sim card along and popping it in. And damn these get the dust under the screen also?
EDIT: Oh did you mean UNLOCKED as far as if it's ever been rooted or hacked?

Yep, the unlocked is refering to an unlocked bootloader. There would be no reason to unlock the bootloader if you werent going to put a custom rom on it or root (gingerbread based) firmwares.
As for things to look for... while this phone has excelent call quality a minority of users have some issues with voices sounding garbled on either end. You might want to throw a sim card in and make a test phone call to see if the one being sold is problematic.
Not sure about that. Ive tried several roms and still had the "UNLOCKED" text on the top left corner. The only time that happened was when I messed up the guide for unlocking bootloader and it disappeared. I have jumped from CM7 to Darkside etcc.. and back. So far its still there.

I would look for the moisture indicator. It varies on where it is located but it should be under the battery door near the sim slot or under the battery itself. It should be a little white circle, if it is red (I think) then it has been exposed to water.

Dust can get under the screen as the digitiser isn't glued to the LCD which makes it easier to repair but problematic for dust (but you can open it if it gets too bad and clean it out which is always a plus).
Yes, the unlocked message means that the person has unlocked the bootloader and messed around with custom roms etc. Check for it to see if he's truthful but if he was clever he could've flashed an SBF which got rid of the unlocked message (and the only way to be sure is to do something in terminal emulator which i can't remember).
Checking the moisture sticker is a must!

As @W3BSurfer mentions, it will still be visible going from ROM to ROM but if you flash an SBF with RSDlite (as @coolnow mentions) then it will be hidden. So, if the guy flashed the official SBF then it really wouldn't matter because it would be stock and should pass the MD5 checksum for future "official" updates (if that is the concern).

That's good and all, but the seller is saying they haven't messed with it so it's more to do with trust than anything. If they have indeed flashed the phone and said they didn't, then what else have they done that they aren't saying?
Very good point. I usually don't trust anyone when buying things anyways and the simple act of inspecting the phone shows a lack of trust regardless but I do agree with you.
