I did a soft reset on my phone (Clicked the soft reset button with Battery Pack 2003). I'm running ROM 4.00.16, radio stack 6.24.
Anyway, it rebooted, then came up asking for the sim unlock password. I've never set any kind of password on there, so I just clicked cancel. The radio status icon at the top showed it was off - had the X. I clicked on that and selected turn on radio and all was fine.
Strange, though. I've never seen that message come up before!
Me too!
I had that happen yesterday in Akron Ohio, USA on T-Mobile. Same situation, with the phone showing the sim lock dialogue, then turning off, and then when I turned it back on, it was fine. Strange because I've unlocked my phone! I'm running 3.14 with radio 6.18
Any ideas on what may have caused this?
Could you post screen snapshot?
Replicating the problem
I can't replicate the problem, but it looked just like a standard message box with text entry box included. Probably the same thing a users sees when they put a sim card from another provider into a locked phone.
does it say sim lock
what is the text on the screen does it say
GID CODE
or whatever
if it says enter GID Code try
00000000

I upgraded my UK O2 XDA using the upgrade from ther UK O2 site last week.
Everything went as it should and I now have a working XDA with ROM 3.14.13 ENG and Radio 4.16.
I had cause to turn off the phone (I was in a meeting) by tapping the arial icon at the top of the screen. When I came to turn it on again I tapped arial icon again, it came up with the usual "Phone is off do yopu want to turn it on?" message, I said yes and that is as far as it goes now. It never brings up the phone to ask for the SIM PIN code.
If I try to make a call it starts, shows the O2 logo then says the phone is off and asks if I want to turn it on and we start all over again.
A soft reset has no effect, but hard reset cures the problem and the phone works fine until I swich it off using the arial icon.
Any Ideas?

it is a known bug
Hi all,
I've been reading on this wiki/forum for a few weeks and finally yesterday night I had some time to install Prophet VIII on my qtek 200. I installed all apps I had running before and it all worked well.
Now I remember reading something about the "Lock" setting, but didn't exactly remember what and couldn't find it back either. I set it to prompt for a simple pin (3412) and even set my hint to 3412 in case i'd forget. After fiddling around a bit too much, things got messy and had to reset the device. Guess what, I got the device lock prompt and it wouldn't accept my pin code.
It also didn't retain clock settings (went back to 31/08/2006 12:00AM) and some small settings i changed in the control panel either. What's causing this?
I reinstalled everything, now everything works again but I couldn't find anything about this device lock thing, so i didn't enable it for now. Doesn't this feature work in custom roms?
Thanks.
This feature doesn't work with WM6...period.....
Has nothing to do with the cooked versions, but is a glitch in the original microsoft programming.
I'm using PDAViet Mysterious 1.0 and have got the same problem on the Lock setting after a soft reset.
After entered the PIN code, nothing would happen if I click the "unlock" button. It neither unlocks the phone, nor displays a error PIN messagebox. Nothing!
Soft Reset doesn't help. Everytime it asked for the PIN code, and I cannot unlock it since the unlock button seems useless.
At last I had to do a hard reset to restore the system.
I found a unique combination when the lock seems to loose the password and wouldn't allow to access even after soft reset; however every thing seems to be working internally i.e. it receives calls; txt. But it does not synz with Outlook and unlocks.
This happens when I turn off the phone and plug it into the charger and then turn on the power.
Does anyone know any remote-registry tools that can allow to override the password.
Strange thing.. So if I went out and bought a brand new WM6 phone, the lock wouldn't work either?
Can anyone help me get into my phone? For some reason it is no longer accepting the 4 digit password when I switch on the phone. It's not saying the number is wrong, just "Emergency phone calls can be made". It says this as soon as any numbers are entered and before the Unlock soft button is pressed. Pressing the Unlock button seems to do nothing.
I can still browse the phone using ActiveSync. Is there a file I can remove to prevent the phone from locking when I soft reset it?
I've got HTC home installed and the phone is running Windows 6 (an official O2 upgrade). I'd like to avoid hard resetting the phone if poss.
Thanks
Fixed
Tried the same 4 digit pin today and it worked! There must be a timed lock that kicks in after a number of tries. There was a clock running yesterday on the screen.
But the odd thing was that I hadn't tried to get into the phone for a couple of days.
Now a bit worried that this'll happen again randomly. Does anyone know how this works?
Hi, I just got an HTC MyTouch 3G which was on the Rogers network and is currently running android 1.5.
When I received it I factory reset from recovery and attempted to boot up with my Bell sim, a Telus sim, and my inactive Rogers sim from my w810i.. None of them can connect to any network (it finds Bell Ext. and a Telus network, and a rogers network). Due to the fact that this phone seems to not have wifi, I cannot even get past the Initial Setup page 1 to try anything.
So I just purchased an unlock code, and currently awaiting it.. Will this fix my problem? And how do I enter the unlock code from the setup page? Nothing pops up, as mentioned in "unlock code guides".
Thanks for any info.

So the phone is off, you put in your Bell SIM, turn the phone on and let it boot for a while, but it never asks you for an unlock code or anything?
You might have to clear user data. Turn the phone completely off. Then PRESS and HOLD the BACK button and the HOME button. Keep pressing those buttons and press the POWER button once, then release all of the buttons. The phone should power on an ask you if you want to clear data. Press the trackball to accept. Now try to boot up with your Bell SIM and see if it asks for an unlock code.
Let me know if that works.

You mean clear it again after putting the bell sim in? I did a factory reset from recov when I got it.
Thanks for the in depth guide on getting to recov but as you can see from my SIG I'm fairly experienced. Looking for more less known options or experiences.. I bought a rogers pay as u go sim and a got a sub-plan with data.

Just being thorough It never hurts to reset again.
Have you tried the four corners method?
At the "Touch the Android" screen, instead of touching the android, you tap the top left corner of the screen, then top right, then bottom right, then bottom left, then touch the android. Some people say it works, some people say it doesn't, some people say it's a hoax... I don't know. But it can't hurt.
You can also try this adb method for older ROMs. Again, I've never used this method, so I can't vouch for it.
Let me know if you make any progress.
Has this happened to anyone else.
Had phone for 2 weeks now & I keep getting a no sim card error when my phone comes out of the lock screen.
I installed a keep screen on app & as long as the phone does not go into lock screen the sim is fine but if i let it go into lock screen after a few minutes when i open phone i get No sim card inserted message.
Any ideas. This sounds more like a software issue than a hardware issue to me.
Cheers.

Yes I sounds like a software issue try installing new software and see how that goes if not I would take the phone back for a replacement
I've had exactly the same problem with my LG Urbane 2 and the problem has occurred over three units. I assume that it's gonna take a firmware update to fix this. Right now I have to do a power cycle reset for a temporary fix.
What's a power cycle reset?
