Unlock? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi, I just got an HTC MyTouch 3G which was on the Rogers network and is currently running android 1.5.
When I received it I factory reset from recovery and attempted to boot up with my Bell sim, a Telus sim, and my inactive Rogers sim from my w810i.. None of them can connect to any network (it finds Bell Ext. and a Telus network, and a rogers network). Due to the fact that this phone seems to not have wifi, I cannot even get past the Initial Setup page 1 to try anything.
So I just purchased an unlock code, and currently awaiting it.. Will this fix my problem? And how do I enter the unlock code from the setup page? Nothing pops up, as mentioned in "unlock code guides".
Thanks for any info.

So the phone is off, you put in your Bell SIM, turn the phone on and let it boot for a while, but it never asks you for an unlock code or anything?
You might have to clear user data. Turn the phone completely off. Then PRESS and HOLD the BACK button and the HOME button. Keep pressing those buttons and press the POWER button once, then release all of the buttons. The phone should power on an ask you if you want to clear data. Press the trackball to accept. Now try to boot up with your Bell SIM and see if it asks for an unlock code.
Let me know if that works.

You mean clear it again after putting the bell sim in? I did a factory reset from recov when I got it.
Thanks for the in depth guide on getting to recov but as you can see from my SIG I'm fairly experienced. Looking for more less known options or experiences.. I bought a rogers pay as u go sim and a got a sub-plan with data.

Just being thorough It never hurts to reset again.
Have you tried the four corners method?
At the "Touch the Android" screen, instead of touching the android, you tap the top left corner of the screen, then top right, then bottom right, then bottom left, then touch the android. Some people say it works, some people say it doesn't, some people say it's a hoax... I don't know. But it can't hurt.
You can also try this adb method for older ROMs. Again, I've never used this method, so I can't vouch for it.
Let me know if you make any progress.

Please help: My Rogers Dream is broken...

I mistakenly flashed a T-Mobile G1 ROM to my Rogers HTC Dream, and now when I boot up it tries to get me to sync my Google account. Problem is, the phone has NO data connection whatsoever, so I can't get past the setup portion of the phone. This means no connecting to my computer to try a new ROM, no wifi, no anything basically. Also, when I try to fastboot I end up at a screen I've never seen before so some kind of recovery backup seems out of the question as well. I'm thinking that the drivers for the G1's 3G radio aren't letting my phone get on Roger's network or something similar. Has anyone had this problem/has a solution. Help is much appreciated!
There is a skip button, just scroll down. You will have to hit skip 3 times I think. Then after google rogers apn settings and enter them. There is a good expenation on hofo in the techie thread in the android sub forum of rogers. I'd link to it but I am on my phone right now and that is too much work at the moment
A little extra information:
The screen I see when I try to go to recovery mode (power + home) is a picture of a phone beside a yellow triangle with an exclamation point inside it. If I try power + home + camera I get what looks like a custom recovery menu that has no options. In both these screens I have to pull the battery to get the phone to shut down.
Also, the one other thing I can do when I power the phone on normally is edit APN settings by pressing menu. There are about 30 of these, each labeled "T-Mobile" with a bunch of extra information I don't understand. Would it be possible that editing some of these settings with Rogers-specific information would give me 3G access back?
Thanks again.
For whatever reason, there is no skip button, just empty space where I would expect it to be (where it is on the Rogers rom). Thanks for the tip about the APN settings though, I'll check that out.
Got through problem #1 but for some reason now I only have an EDGE data connection and not the 3G I should. Any ideas?
Thanks again for the help.
EDIT:
I also have no recovery mode. As I mentioned before. Does this mean I have no chance of flashing a new ROM?

leave it under tap water for 2 mins than take the battery out and put it back in. now you should be unlocked.
If it was your kid who did that and he was smart enough to put down the same lock pattern twice, he should be smart enough to tell you which pattern he used, right?
Just do all you you can to get into download mode and do a wipe. I don't know odin but I think that can help you? If you bring to t mobile they will just put it in download and wipe.

If you try entering the incorrect pattern five times you will see a screen where there will be a place to click for people who forgot their password. It will ask you to enter your gmail user name and password. then will ask you to set a new unlock pattern and you will be fine
Get into recovery and do a factory reset/wipe depending on the recovery you use, keep trying tell you get it to boot into recovery.
You dont need to factory reset my method works fine already tested

Hey Guys, I have the same problem. I have an unlocked T-mobile phone here in Ontario Canada so that I can use it on the Wind mobile network.
I can't rememeber the pattern or the phone won't accept my pattern, I have lost my mind. I tried many different times.
the phone does not ask me for gmail account after 5 times but keeps on waiting 30 secs after 5 tries and then lets me try againa and again and again.
I tried to reset the phone with holding the vol down and pushing the power button, but it only goes back to the pattern screen.
I can answer the phone when I call it but that is it.
Can some one please help me.
I also downloaded kies, but it wont connect since I cannot get into the settings of the phone to let the usb connect with kies.
hope you can help..
cheers.

Hey seriously does this work? I have a Vibrant and two other Android phones (ie three different unlock patterns). I took the requirement to do the unlock patern off on the vibrant for the last couple of months and when I thought of allowing it I realized I have been messing with the other two phones more and forgot the unlock pattern on the vibrant.
Currently my Vibrant is in use but I will like to be able to lock the screen now that my GPS and lag problems are much better fixed, but I do not want to wipe everything first. If this works I can enable the lock pattern and try different patterns till I get to this screen....but it has to be for real before I loose all my connections and presets etc on the phone.

yeah, i've noticed that too but tbh, i wouldn't buy one of those just in case it was stolen. i'm hoping ppl will also be as wary of those devices.
This Is What Happened To Me, My Friend Kept Doing The Unlock Pattern And Made My Phone Get Locked Out, I Wasn't Worried Cause I Had My Email And Pass, Well Turns Out The Email And Pass Didn't Work...At All, It Kept Saying It Was Wrong And I Couldn't Go Into Recovery Mode Or Download Mode Because I Guess It Was A Hardware Locked Vibrant? I Have No Clue, Long Story Short This Is What You Do, Either Switch Out The Vibrant, OR Go Into ADB And Fastboot, Reboot Into Recovery

I tried this, it still will not go to recovery mode. Are there any other ways of having to put this phone in recovery?
I am so pissed.
thanks guys
If your phone does not get into recovery or download. Best thing to do is just bring it into samsung for warranty repairs or exchange. Samsung canada covers it now free of charge. That's what I had to do, nothing worked for my first i9000m to get into recovery/download.

you are full of chit my friend. I've locked myself out of multiple android devices using the lock pattern and my gmail account unlocked them all.
If you don't know the unlock code and don't know the gmail username and password for your email account... sounds pretty darn stolen to me.
prove me wrong and I will be happy to help other wise go find a new route you thieves.

I did not steal this phone I bought it. I just calle tech support in Canada, and they told me to call tech support in the US. The US tech support told me that to do a hard reset, I have to hold down the Vol up and Vol Down button and power button for 15 sec and then let go to get to a reboot screen. I tried and it did not work. Then I asked to send the phone in for repairs and they said that it was not in warranty since I used it in canada???? Now I am **** out of luck.
cheers.

What if you've already had it for sometime? Do we just turn our off and back on then do the procedure?
Awesome! This worked. Now I can sell my Tab on eBay after a full reset.
Would i be able to revert this procedure after "Bypass Activation"
...
does this bypass sim requirement (makes it disappear) or just have it in default condition??
my Samsung Gtab (both at&t and T-mobile) never needs activation.
Exactly what does this achieve?
I have a t-mobile sgt in which I canceled the data plan and am not using the sim card at all. I'm still able to access the device without any activations. Are there devices that are locked?

The only ones that I can think of are Sprint & Verizon because you need to be provisioned to be on their network.
Thanks a lot, -viperboy- for sharing.

Not working with Android 3.2
Hey guys,
The trick does not work anymore.
I have GT 10.1 with Android 3.2, latest verizon update. Unfortunately neither the volume, nor touching corners work.
Do you guys have any other idea how to bypass the sim activation?
Thanks!

[Q] Bypass Emergency Call screen to go Wifi only?

I have been trying to get past the No SIM card Emergency Call only screen to no avail. The four corners thing worked fine on our Cliq and Droid 2, but not on the Flipout. I don't need to root or unlock, I simply just want to use it on Wifi only... possible?
Thanks in advance.
Bypass Emergency call screen (solved)
Hi there Imanta...
I am also a new member & I had this exact same problem a few days ago. My Flipout for no apparent reason started refusing my orange 3G sim (No sim) and would only boot to emergency call screen .
The workaround for this problem I found to be simple . Insert a sim from a different carrier (I used virgin mobile), boot phone, when fully booted you should be presented with the phones network unlock screen giving you 2 options.
1: Enter network unlock code.
2: Dismiss.
Choose dismiss option & the phone should boot to its home screen unless you did a factory reset before inserting other carrier sim. If you did a reset then the phone will ask you to set a few perameters before booting to home screen.
Once fully booted the phone will be fully functioning albeit without carrier network access. You can also remove the wrong carrier sim & insert your own sim back & the phone will continue to boot to home screen from off until a wipe/factory reset is done again.
I hope this helps with your problem...
Stay Breezy & Be Lucky...
Peace....

Mystery: Factory Reset unlocked Sprint LG V20 now stuck in bizarre state

I did a factory reset on an unlocked Sprint LG V20. It is now in a state of… I have no idea what state it’s in but it’s completely stuck. Please help, wise people! Obi-Wan’s, you’re my only hope.
(Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere. I really did search first.)
HISTORY:
1) Bought an unlocked Sprint LG V20 off ebay. Worked great for a year and a half with a Consumer Cellular sim.
2) It suddenly got molasses slow so I did a factory reset (power off → power+volume down → wipe data/factory reset → yes).
3) On power up, the Sprint splash screen was gone, all Sprint apps are gone, phone no longer recognizes sim (invalid sim).
4) I thought it might be relocked by Sprint despite any Sprint evidence. Contacted Sprint, said they wouldn’t unlock without the original phone number. Contacted ebay seller, he didn’t have it.
5) Out of desperation, only because I read about somewhere, I dialed on the phone ##72786# and restarted the phone as if for a factory reset. After the initial LG splash screen, Recovery Mode appeared, followed by the usual recover/reset menu.
NOW:
1) Whenever I do power off → power+volume down with the Consumer Cellular sim in, I can select Wipe/Reset or Reboot Now and the result is the same: 1) eventually, it gets to setup, starting with Talk Now (press Next), Language (press Next) to Use Wifi (setup successfully, press Next), to the Configuring phone screen.
2) This is where I have no idea what state it’s in. It will just stay on the Configuring screen and hang. Forever. Until the battery dies. The only button that will work is the Power button. I’ve selected Power Off and Restart many times, and the result is the same: the setup routine all the way to Configure Phone page to complete hang.
3) Incidentally, if I do step 1 above with the sim card in, the Configure Phone takes a lonnnng time until it eventually shows a screen saying to please insert the sim card that came with the phone and reboot. Doing so starts everything from step 1 all over again.
I seem to be in a strange state, not locked out of Sprint or Google, just locked out of making any changes to the phone other than the Recovery Mode screen. Is this what they call bricked? Ugh.
If anyone has any ideas, I’d love to hear them and would be wicked grateful!

Sounds like a NAND failure
Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
Thank you for the lead. I've never heard of that before so I just did some reading and it makes sense. I haven't searched on the board yet, but a quick google search doesn't bring up much in the way of fixes. (Although what's out there suggests it being a big problem with iPhones.) What is out there is based on the premise that you can download things, which I can't.
Do you know of any resources for fixing it? I searched on "lg v20 ls997 nand failure fix" but I suspect, based on how little it brought up, that another search string might be more helpful.
Have you tried to reflash any update on it......a little while back I had a g4 that was boatload unlocked did a similar thing but I got a green screen telling me that the phone has made a nandroid back then when on to complete a full brick with nothing just a paper weight.......
Excellent, Stinka, thank you. I'm just not sure what reflashing an update means... I'll look it up, but any advice would be appreciated.
To be honest, I don't even know what a bootloader is and have wondered if I should select it while in recovery mode. Again, I'll look it up.
UPDATE: The phone is now in a state of working as a mini-pc but not a phone. Not sure I could recreate it but I started clicking things all over the place when it was setting up. It now works with apps and gets wifi but still says Invalid Sim. I only have the Consumer Cellular sim so I can't test it with a Sprint sim to see if that would work. But with wifi, it means I can download things that could help. If that changes things and provides other options people want to suggest, I'm all ears! (and thanks again for your help)
