I have been trying to get past the No SIM card Emergency Call only screen to no avail. The four corners thing worked fine on our Cliq and Droid 2, but not on the Flipout. I don't need to root or unlock, I simply just want to use it on Wifi only... possible?
Thanks in advance.
Bypass Emergency call screen (solved)
Hi there Imanta...
I am also a new member & I had this exact same problem a few days ago. My Flipout for no apparent reason started refusing my orange 3G sim (No sim) and would only boot to emergency call screen .
The workaround for this problem I found to be simple . Insert a sim from a different carrier (I used virgin mobile), boot phone, when fully booted you should be presented with the phones network unlock screen giving you 2 options.
1: Enter network unlock code.
2: Dismiss.
Choose dismiss option & the phone should boot to its home screen unless you did a factory reset before inserting other carrier sim. If you did a reset then the phone will ask you to set a few perameters before booting to home screen.
Once fully booted the phone will be fully functioning albeit without carrier network access. You can also remove the wrong carrier sim & insert your own sim back & the phone will continue to boot to home screen from off until a wipe/factory reset is done again.
I hope this helps with your problem...
Stay Breezy & Be Lucky...
Peace....

Can anyone help me get into my phone? For some reason it is no longer accepting the 4 digit password when I switch on the phone. It's not saying the number is wrong, just "Emergency phone calls can be made". It says this as soon as any numbers are entered and before the Unlock soft button is pressed. Pressing the Unlock button seems to do nothing.
I can still browse the phone using ActiveSync. Is there a file I can remove to prevent the phone from locking when I soft reset it?
I've got HTC home installed and the phone is running Windows 6 (an official O2 upgrade). I'd like to avoid hard resetting the phone if poss.
Thanks
Fixed
Tried the same 4 digit pin today and it worked! There must be a timed lock that kicks in after a number of tries. There was a clock running yesterday on the screen.
But the odd thing was that I hadn't tried to get into the phone for a couple of days.
Now a bit worried that this'll happen again randomly. Does anyone know how this works?
Dear all,
I removed my HTC HD2 better without using the reset function, as usual I get the Windows Mobile pin code screen, as you know 4 numbers are required to enter the phone, unfortunately the number that I am sure 100% is correct were not accepted and my phone somehow is locked.
Currently, the phone is displaying this message "Emergency phone calls can be made"
Any idea on how to sort out this issue?
Best regards,
Been a long time since I was locked out of a phone; when I did it years ago you need to phone your provider for a PUK code.
From what I've seen in other threads of a similar type, just pop the battery out or reset the phone to fix the issue of it not recognising your password, and I believe it only locks it for about half an hour, so you should be able to try again later.

New Response From [ Ahmed (MEA Support (Tech)) ]
Thank you for contacting HTC,
Dear Valued Customer,
Regarding your enquiry, kindly follow the steps below:
First: It is preferable to remove the SIM card and turn the phone on without it, to see if the number required is the PIN code. If that is the case then contact your network operator to ask them to provide you with the number.
If the device is still asking for a password, even with out the SIM card, then you will have to perform a hard reset.
Kindly note that, hard reset will delete all your personal data that is stored on the phone memory. It is better to have a back up of all your data if possible.
Hard reset steps:
1) With the phone turned off, press and hold volume up and volume down buttons. Then press the END/Power buttons briefly and release it. You will see this message on the screen.
2) Press the volume up to perform the hard reset, press any other button to cancel the reset.
3) Release the volume and volume down buttons, and follow the on screen instructions.

Sincerely,

OMG ! He ment password (PIN) protected screensaver - NOT the SIM/PUK access codes.
WM6.5 devices have a history of suddenly "forgetting" user PIN numbers. Then only hard reset helps destroying all personal data.
Shame on Microsoft !
It happened to me today.
Unable to unlock my HTC Leo with a 4-digit PIN
Hi, I just got an HTC MyTouch 3G which was on the Rogers network and is currently running android 1.5.
When I received it I factory reset from recovery and attempted to boot up with my Bell sim, a Telus sim, and my inactive Rogers sim from my w810i.. None of them can connect to any network (it finds Bell Ext. and a Telus network, and a rogers network). Due to the fact that this phone seems to not have wifi, I cannot even get past the Initial Setup page 1 to try anything.
So I just purchased an unlock code, and currently awaiting it.. Will this fix my problem? And how do I enter the unlock code from the setup page? Nothing pops up, as mentioned in "unlock code guides".
Thanks for any info.

So the phone is off, you put in your Bell SIM, turn the phone on and let it boot for a while, but it never asks you for an unlock code or anything?
You might have to clear user data. Turn the phone completely off. Then PRESS and HOLD the BACK button and the HOME button. Keep pressing those buttons and press the POWER button once, then release all of the buttons. The phone should power on an ask you if you want to clear data. Press the trackball to accept. Now try to boot up with your Bell SIM and see if it asks for an unlock code.
Let me know if that works.

You mean clear it again after putting the bell sim in? I did a factory reset from recov when I got it.
Thanks for the in depth guide on getting to recov but as you can see from my SIG I'm fairly experienced. Looking for more less known options or experiences.. I bought a rogers pay as u go sim and a got a sub-plan with data.

Just being thorough It never hurts to reset again.
Have you tried the four corners method?
At the "Touch the Android" screen, instead of touching the android, you tap the top left corner of the screen, then top right, then bottom right, then bottom left, then touch the android. Some people say it works, some people say it doesn't, some people say it's a hoax... I don't know. But it can't hurt.
You can also try this adb method for older ROMs. Again, I've never used this method, so I can't vouch for it.
Let me know if you make any progress.
Hi, guys,
I have following problem with my G2 D802, yesterday I left my on the front seat of the car, it was sun and hot, 15 minutes after that I take it, the phone was shut-ed down. After pressing power button the phone restart several times and boot without network connection. I read for possible solutions and found that if I left phone turned of without sim for a few minutes after that the device will recognize the sim and it's happened, unfortunately for a 5 minutes, after that the phone restarts and display massage insert proper sim card. Several times I restore factory settings, without susses. The phone display message service disabled.
The phone is bought from Vodafon Uk, and was unlocked with code from internet, works properly for a 6 months. The phone is not rooted.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi,
I just found solution, the problem was in the sim card, I ask my provider to change it and now everything is ok . It's more curios for me that other phone works properly with the same sim.
I did a factory reset on an unlocked Sprint LG V20. It is now in a state of… I have no idea what state it’s in but it’s completely stuck. Please help, wise people! Obi-Wan’s, you’re my only hope.
(Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere. I really did search first.)
HISTORY:
1) Bought an unlocked Sprint LG V20 off ebay. Worked great for a year and a half with a Consumer Cellular sim.
2) It suddenly got molasses slow so I did a factory reset (power off → power+volume down → wipe data/factory reset → yes).
3) On power up, the Sprint splash screen was gone, all Sprint apps are gone, phone no longer recognizes sim (invalid sim).
4) I thought it might be relocked by Sprint despite any Sprint evidence. Contacted Sprint, said they wouldn’t unlock without the original phone number. Contacted ebay seller, he didn’t have it.
5) Out of desperation, only because I read about somewhere, I dialed on the phone ##72786# and restarted the phone as if for a factory reset. After the initial LG splash screen, Recovery Mode appeared, followed by the usual recover/reset menu.
NOW:
1) Whenever I do power off → power+volume down with the Consumer Cellular sim in, I can select Wipe/Reset or Reboot Now and the result is the same: 1) eventually, it gets to setup, starting with Talk Now (press Next), Language (press Next) to Use Wifi (setup successfully, press Next), to the Configuring phone screen.
2) This is where I have no idea what state it’s in. It will just stay on the Configuring screen and hang. Forever. Until the battery dies. The only button that will work is the Power button. I’ve selected Power Off and Restart many times, and the result is the same: the setup routine all the way to Configure Phone page to complete hang.
3) Incidentally, if I do step 1 above with the sim card in, the Configure Phone takes a lonnnng time until it eventually shows a screen saying to please insert the sim card that came with the phone and reboot. Doing so starts everything from step 1 all over again.
I seem to be in a strange state, not locked out of Sprint or Google, just locked out of making any changes to the phone other than the Recovery Mode screen. Is this what they call bricked? Ugh.
If anyone has any ideas, I’d love to hear them and would be wicked grateful!

Sounds like a NAND failure
Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
Thank you for the lead. I've never heard of that before so I just did some reading and it makes sense. I haven't searched on the board yet, but a quick google search doesn't bring up much in the way of fixes. (Although what's out there suggests it being a big problem with iPhones.) What is out there is based on the premise that you can download things, which I can't.
Do you know of any resources for fixing it? I searched on "lg v20 ls997 nand failure fix" but I suspect, based on how little it brought up, that another search string might be more helpful.
Have you tried to reflash any update on it......a little while back I had a g4 that was boatload unlocked did a similar thing but I got a green screen telling me that the phone has made a nandroid back then when on to complete a full brick with nothing just a paper weight.......
Excellent, Stinka, thank you. I'm just not sure what reflashing an update means... I'll look it up, but any advice would be appreciated.
To be honest, I don't even know what a bootloader is and have wondered if I should select it while in recovery mode. Again, I'll look it up.
UPDATE: The phone is now in a state of working as a mini-pc but not a phone. Not sure I could recreate it but I started clicking things all over the place when it was setting up. It now works with apps and gets wifi but still says Invalid Sim. I only have the Consumer Cellular sim so I can't test it with a Sprint sim to see if that would work. But with wifi, it means I can download things that could help. If that changes things and provides other options people want to suggest, I'm all ears! (and thanks again for your help)
