Replacement for Note 4 - No VoLTE Outside of Stock - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I realize that the main carriers in the US will be dropping the old network protocols in 2022, which means my current N910V will no longer work for voice calls. From what I gather, I'd need to run a stock/stock-based ROM to get VoLTE working, which is a deal breaker for me. I need recent security updates and modern Android releases on my phones. I will miss LineageOS on the Note 4...
With that being said, any thoughts on a replacement device this coming year? I will certainly miss the replaceable battery the most. Is there a device you recommend that has a relatively easy battery to replace? Honestly, the phone is used for light browsing, email, etc. Pictures and movies are frequently taken from it, so a good camera is a must. The memory card is paramount today, but unsure how long this can last. A device with an active development history with root access is also required for this replacement.
I've been spoiled with the N910V for years now. I just don't know where to start replacing it. Your opinions are greatly appreciated!

Does anyone have a suggestion or opinion to share??

Looking For a custom build

OK so lemmie explain
1. This DX is a lost device. ESN is gone (NEVER TO BE FOUND )
2. Its main use is Pandora in my shop to keep people entertained with music
3. I want to make it a Wifi ONLY device. taking out all the bloatware and crap that VZ put into it to make it fast, battery efficent, and able to last for days on a single charge.
Please if there is a rom that fits my needs, direct me. if not help me in finding or building one?
its main use is like a tab. decent camera to take pictures, and overall just there to be there, never really meant to leave the building. always connected to one wifi network. ITS A SHOP PHONE
it will use applications that will help me track and manage inventory and send emails to customers, but i want it SIMPLE AND BASIC. an iphone theme would be cool seeing that id be selling it to someone who has an iphone and is confounded by the "overly complicated paperweight" of a phone that i have. time is no issue here, thanks for the help!
There's is no ROM that strips away the phone functionality, although many people have asked for it.
For simple, clean, and good battery life, try Vortex Liberated (VXL).
I don't believe you will be disappointed with it.
If you want more ROM features you can also try ouut CyanogenMod 7, CyanogenMod 9, or MIUI.
Edit: Also, post questions in general

Just Ordered - A Couple of Questions

EDIT: Can I or a mod move this to general? Whoops. Rookie mistake.
I just ordered a 64 GB Frost to replace a dying Note 4 (probably old water damage doing it in). I've read through some of the forums and have some questions for anyone who wants to answer.
- With the torsion/bending threads, is there any real information as to if all builds/batches are likely to be affected, and any real insight into warranty process if you did not buy the extra insurance? I didn't buy it, and if this sort of issue makes an exchange process harder, I might consider re-ordering or trying to add that on, since I'm pre-shipping. I'm not asking how common this issue is generically, as it's really hard to tell from a forum.
- I read that you have to unlock the bootloader, and from there you can root. I also read something about google not wanting people rooting to use Android Pay. If I just unlock the bootloader to enable root, but don't root, is there any functionality of the phone lost as a result? Outside of headphone jack issues/fixes, I'm not sure I read anything that compels me personally to root the device, especially given that loss (I understand some people can constantly get in front of Google on that, but I don't care to race), but I don't want to have to wipe all my user data 2 months in if I change my mind.
- Any really common issues with this phone I'm missing that should make me wary? I compared it a bit with the Moto X Pure. I like the styling/fingerprint reader and low light camera performance of the 6p, along with fast updates. Seems worth the extra money, but both are very worthy phones, and I do like OIS and some of the Moto customization available, so I go back and forth a bit in my head on this.
Thanks!
Not really the right place for this, this is for accessories...

1) I have had no issue at all with any torsion/twisting/bending of the device. My phone is always on my person in my front pants pocket or dash mounted car holder. I've never sat on my phone, but considering any phone may not react well to this, I consider this supposed bending issue to either be a concern brought to the front by overly vocal idiots who keep phablets in their skinny jeans back pockets, or complete and utter nonsense. Perhaps both.
2) You always have to unlock the bootloader in order to root. As far as I know, it's this way on all Android devices. If you unlock the bootloader, but do nothing else, to my knowledge no functionality of the phone is lost as long as you stay on the stock rom. If you go to Chroma, Android Pay is working. Other ROMs I can't vouch for. If you want to root on stock rom, I believe Android Pay will cease to work.
3) The most immediate "common issue" you will experience on the 6P is the need to switch to USB Type-C cables and chargers. Instead of getting deep into the whole SNAFU of getting all of your USB Type-A equipment to work with the 6P, I would suggest purchasing extra OEM chargers and cables from Google and just call it a day. This way it is a non-issue from the get-go. Beyond this, I can't think of any common problems the phone has you should be aware of.

Thanks for the reply. To point 1, I get that not everyone has the issue, and it very well might be overblown. Most forum problems are. I'm just wondering if the warranty process if I do have an issue is awesome one way and horrid the other (with/without that extra warranty) in practice.
2) My Note 4 (T-Mo) came with an unlocked bootloader. My point here is that I'd want to unlock it right away to prevent having to wipe my data later, and just want to make sure that process doesn't result in functionality loss, since I've read rooting does without a custom ROM. At least with my Note 4, switching ROMs while staying stable was a bit of a chore, and recovering settings (Titanium) would risk losing that stability, even if I was pretty granular. With this phone, I'm not 100%, but I think I'd rather just stay stock.
3) Thanks again.

ROM Recommendations for Verizon Note 4

Hey I have a Note 4 (Snapdragon) for Verizon coming in later this week and I have been searching around at the roms and honestly, there are so many of them that I am not exactly sure which ones I want to start to look at. If yall could give me some recommendations I would really appreciate it.
My most important feature is stability and having normal phone functions. I don't want a rom that has problem sending picture messages or is on roaming or anything like that.
I'd like a newest Note experience I can get. Now whether that is a Note 7 port, I am not sure. Obviously Android 7.1.1 would be nice, but stability and functionality are more important to me than being on the cutting edge.
Thanks for any help.

Lots of questions

Hey guys, I’ve been off android for about 3-4 years now, but I’m purchasing a 6t today through t-mobile and I have a few questions before I may decide to root.
1) I know there is this feature a lot of apps use now a days called safety net. I play Pokémon go pretty frequently and it does perform a safety net check (I know because I had to unroot an old back up phone just to play) is there any way to have root and somehow pass safety net?
2) I’m looking for a google pixel like experience, I see there are a couple roms on here for that, but if I avoid the root path is there a launcher that gives me all the round icons like a google pixel with the same look and feel?
3) random questions but how does everyone here like the phone? Camera quality is huge to me and I’m coming from an iPhone with great camera quality, is there any tips to improve the camera on this device? How is battery life in the real world?
4) everyone’s favorite rom? There doesn’t seem to be a lot of options which surprised me for this phone. I honestly thought dev would be off the charts for this phone.
Thanks for taking the time. Back in the day I would have sat for endless hours researching all of this to avoid the “use search” trollers.. But nowadays I work 70 hours a week and have kids to attend to, so free time is limited.
Thanks guys
I love my 6T, coming from a 3T. LG and Samsung before that. This 6T is a beast!
First, skip the T-Mo version, particularly if you plan to root. You will have to jump through hoops to get it unlocked if you buy direct from OnePlus.
The stock ROM is excellent and things have come a long way over the years. I was planning to root, but so far haven't bothered. I used to root largely to let me use Titanium backup and freeze functions, but the phone is fine as is and most stuff backs up via Google or cloud now well enough.
The stock experience is clean; I use Nova Launcher BTW and it plays nice.
If you do root, Magisk can get most apps past safety net checks but one thing that has no solution is the streaming app DRM check; if you unlock bootloader to root, you drop from L1 and HD capable to L3 low res streaming. May not matter for you. Some people report this is reversible (relock bootloader, get L1 back) but others don't get it back.
ROM wise, I believe no ROM supports the in display fingerprint reader yet, so that's a drawback if you leave the stock or rooted nearly stock world.
Seriously get a 6T from OnePlus, try it out. You may find that everything is fine stock out of the box.
Good luck!

Need to update from KitKat 4.4.4

Hi all,
I've got a developers edition Galaxy Note 4 that I bought directly from Samsung 7ish years ago and it's still my daily driver. I rooted it immediately upon getting it and have never updated it past the KitKat version of Android that it came with. I rely on Google Voice and just got a message saying that Voice would soon stop running on KitKat so I need to upgrade my version of Android.
I've been out of the scene for a long time (as evidenced by my still using a 7 year old phone) so I'm looking for advice on a ROM to move to. My requirements are:
Must have root.
Must support Google Voice
Battery life is very important to me. This is one of the main reasons I stayed with KitKat. When later versions came out people were reporting much worse battery life. Not sure if this is still the case.
Must support s-pen. I use this quite frequently.
I prefer to stay with something close to stock. I don't need flashy 3D launcher effects of anything. I've got a Galaxy Tab S7+ and I'm familiar with (and like) recent versions of Samsung's UI.
GPS must be functional. I use Maps and Waze for navigation same need to continue. This probably won't be an issue, but I mention it because I remember some ROMS having trouble with this years ago.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It's been so long since I've done this stuff I don't remember where to start. In addition to being rooted, I've got what is probably a very old version (2.8.1.1) of TWRP installed. Not sure if it would matter, but I'm also still on one of Verizon's old truly unlimited plans.
I've been doing some research and unless anyone here has a better idea I'm guessing the best move for me would be to upgrade to one of the official Android 6 builds that Samsung released for this phone. From what I gather, custom ROMs do not fully support the S-pen. Is that correct?
Do any pre-rooted versions of the Samsung 6.0.1 release exist that I could flash with my existing version of TWRP? I've seen some discussion of updating bootloaders but I'm not really sure what that's all about. Like I said, it's been many years since I've done this stuff.
Any and all advice and instruction and links appreciated.
I'd leave it be and ditch Gookill Voice... enjoy the better battery life.

I would, but I've used Google Voice for everything. In all these years I've never given anyone my actual carrier phone number. They've all gotten my Google Voice number.
I'm glad you left your comment though. It reminded me that battery life getting worse was one of the reasons I never did the update.
Not real sure what I'm going to do. I might just limp along as it is for a month and maybe buy the Galaxy Fold 3 when it comes out.
I use the a Custom ROM which is Android 6.0.1 for my SM-N910P called Q15_Plus_TidBits_VB3.0.1. So far I get about 14 hours on the battery with average use, and that is without using the battery saving modes. It is stable, and quite honestly runs everything (including Google Voice which I rely on). The only complaint I can think of is that I don't have a 'power button flashlight' feature installed.

That sounds great! Does this rom maintain support for the s-pen?
