Generic Android headunit (Erisin ES8990A) Information

Hi guys, I am thinking of trading in my old phillips carstudio ced780 for a Erisin ES8990A which can be viewed here
I have attached an image of it (for some reason I can't insert images)
It seems to have appealing features eg. a capacitive touchscreen and GPS, however there doesn't seem to be much info on it. I was wondering if anyone has seen this model under a different name and if there is a thread on here discussing that model as there are other android head units? I don't want to buy a model with no support or information!

Same problem here Not much info about it. I just bought it yesterday. It seems ok, bluetooth, wifi etc work ok (range, stability) There is google store etc. Some native android settings are blocked by the producer (like mic volume settings) and it's a bit annoying.

Thanks for the reply, if you don't mind me asking, is this a ce/android hybrid or pure android? How long does it take to boot up? and is the touchscreen really capacitive?

It's a pure android. Boots up in a matter of seconds because of being suspended when turning the ignition off. Full system reboot takes less than minute. Touchscreen works ok, no problems there.
As for disadvantages:
- 3G USB modem didn't work, it's being recognized, logs to the network but my APN list is empty and I can't add any... I use wifi instead (mobile gsm hotstop)
- 1GB ROM for application - not much, but for me it's sufficient.
- there is some noise when the unit is ruining (not in speakers, the volume changes nothing, it's getting from inside of the unit). I don't know if it's just my unit... When I listen to the radio it doesn't bother me..

Thanks for the reply, I assume the low storage problem could be mitigated with moving apps/data to the SD card, thanks for the clarification on it being pure android, as android normally doesn't have dvd drive drivers I thought this would have been a ce/android hybrid, but they must have used proprietary drivers.
As for the noise, my current headunit does the same, it's the fan so nothing to worry about there.
The only thing that worries me is the suspend mode you speak of, which must run off the car battery when the ignition is off, therefore depleting it if the car is not used for a while?

True, it might be the problem, but without actual info about power drain during standby I can't say much. The truth is that this standby is much more practical as booting the system on every ignition.

I have the same car radio and the only problem is the incompatibility with Tomtom, you can not find the gps
Is there any solution to this problem?

I have never heard of this, normally if android detects GPS, every app should. Does google maps work?
What nav app comes preinstalled on the sd card? @psiriders have you heard of this?

GPS works ok, I use Google Maps and iGO, but I never tested the TomTom.

Hi, in the sd card they sent me was iGO, then I've installed Sygic and I had no problem
When I install tomtom appears the image of the map of Rome (I'm in Bari) and remains in the same position and does not move at all, and it seems that it can not find a GPS

I'm getting this exact unit. I should have it by Wednesday. The first thing i'll do is install tomtom (legal version) and see if it works, if so I'll post my setup here and hopefully you can duplicate it, if not we can figure something out!

Got the headunit today and can confirm that tomtom does not work, which is no problem for me because the igo it comes with has tomotm maps, and local search. Google maps also works. Maybe the new tomotm go app will work in future?
It is possible there are settings in the hidden menu (password 3368) that allow this but i haven't got a chance to try it out yet.

when I start iGO or Sygic, voice alerts not work.
To hear the voice of Igo or Sygic, I must change the voice
and at the same time that I hear the voice of iGO or Sygic, the voice of the radio stops, and to hear it again I must restart the radio.

ES8990A Settings and other issues
Hi Guys, I have one of these radios and I was wondering if anyone knows how to turn the disabled settings items back on. also no matter what I try I cannot get the USB Dash Cam to work nor the built in DVR, I also cannot get the backup camera option to work. any ideas or help would be a blessing.

Pioneer SPH-8TAB-BT

Hi all, the Pioneer SPH-8TAB-BT is brand new and decided to open a topic about it.
First issue I have that there is no call-out button in the software, while if I am dialing a number on my phone, there is a screen that shows who I am calling.
Second, is there any other FM app that could work. The stock one is too ugly.

I found out voice dialing works if you update PSS in the Google Play Store, but there is no Bluetooth dialer app yet

Would be better to ask in a Pioneer forum.
The unit you got is too seldom at XDA. Seems that this is a real tablet just with a connector to the head unit.
No one knows what´s in there.

Thanks, had a look. I played around for hours so nothing new.
But I had contact with Pioneer:
A) No DAB+ support
B) Bluetooth dialing and use Phone COntacts list will come in a couple of months

Just mounting a tablet on some mysterious radio without necessary functionality is not ready for sale.

I have the same model Pioneer has brougt an update on their site go to pioneer and go to software and type you're model nr to download the file unpack it to a usb drive so now you have the Cal function you have to update the pioneer sync app on the tablet and need a usb stick wit the download file plugged in to the system

New TS10 UIS7862 6gb ram 128gb head unit q&a's

So I bit the bullet and bought myself this head unit:

Ad stated that unit is 4gb ts8, but unit shipped and arrived is 6gb TS10.
Plugged everything up unit works nice and smooth as expected, but one seriously annoying bug.
Phone connected to HU and when I try to make a phone call I can hear receiver speaking, but they can't hear me.
Head unit does have internal mic. And Mike does work with other apps
I've checked permissions and Bluetooth app does not even request mic permission.
Any ideas? Suggestions? Anyone else got similar issues?
Maybe custom ROMs available etc?
I've managed to enable USB debugging, got passwords for engineering mode, extra settings etc...

I did actually managed to sort it out. Store suggested connecting external mic to 3.5mm plug on the harness that came with head unit. Did that, but nothing changed.
Can't remember exactly what I did, but it's something down the lines of Google Voice setting that it's setup to constantly listen for "hey Google" you have to disable that and than "hey Google" function will only work when you in the maps etc not constantly whilst head unit is on.
If you can't find that setting let me know I'll find it and explain in detail how to do that.
If you have the same issue as me I'm positive that this might be the cause

That was 100% it. Turned the 'Hey Google' activation off and problem solved. Thanks!

Glad I could help. I remember being frustrated fumming looking for answers for almost a week... With seller being let's say close to useless they did try...
I came across answer online somewhere where same issue was happening with a phone not headunit so thought worth a try and it worked
Anyway, good luck

Could you please give a screenshot of the setting you changed or at least where in the settings the function is.

Go to applications/car settings/ click on the left button ---more/ Google services and preferences/ click on account services/ search, assistant & voice/ voice/ voice match.
First line should say hey Google access your assistant any time you say "hey Google" when your screen is on. Turn this off.
This worked for me. I'll make a short video just in case

You have gone over and above. Thank you. Found never have thought to delve that deep into settings for the solution.

I did try to be helpful, because I know how frustrated I was being unable to make a phone call or rather switch to hands free mode on the phone every time there was a call. And it really bugged me. It was obvious that it was software not hardware issue since mic worked everywhere else.
Seller couldn't explain anything either and I ended up ripping my brand new cars dashboard 4 times trying to work it out... So I kind of understand and if it helps somebody else I'm more than pleased with taking 10minutes of my time to do so .

Place the file in the root of a USB and hit the system upgrade button in the settings.
After the update, go to settings - car settings - extra setting - 123456 - config info - choose the options that were ticked prior to the update (BC6 for me)
The update file is titled: TS10.1.2_20210106.173438_THEME1.zip
Presumably from 6th Jan 2021

Headunit reloaded works very well (for seamless android auto support) on these TS10 units for those who have not tried!

Do you have any screen shots of the UI and the specs with this ROM?
Is it only suitablefor 6gb / 128 gb models or will the 4gb/64gb models also accept this?

I can't tell you with confidence what units are compatible. I do note it has settings for screen resolution - this is on my 720p device. I also note I needed to adjust the config info setting to match what my stereo comes with after flashing. The canbus receivers are set up using a database queried online and car specific apps and logos are automatically added.
The update is excellent - everything works very well. Head unit reloaded works with wireless android auto and wired (though a little buggy wirrless)

Can you access the extra settings menu on your current firmware (password 123456)
I would copy the settings for BC6/7/8 from there.
You can update the config as often as you like. This sounds like a risky update, probably not worth attempting if you don't currently have similar software with similar settings.

Another password might be useful for somebody:
Enable USB debug: [email protected]

Ts18 (sinosmart head unit) firmware and Android Auto help.

I have just purchased for my Mazda 3 2014 base model a Sino Smart t18 Android head unit. It took a lot of wire runs to get all my buttons on my steering wheel to work and my aux cable to work but I have everything working now. However I cannot get Android Auto to work. I'm connected via cable I go to T-Link it goes through the whole connection process then the app closes and I disconnect. Also in calls there is a literal half second to two second delay between me saying something and the other person hearing something. I believe that to be because the dialer and phone app is an ancient one. Before I upgrade via the Sino Smart firmware assuming that they even have a newer version for it I'd like to know a few things. Are there any fixes for the issues I have? Is there generic firmware I could use and would that be better? I've backed up the APKs and the settings on a flash drive and I'm going to get a firmware from Sino Smart probably today. So I'm not too concerned about reflashing it if such a firmware exists. The firmware that they gave me was for a TS-10 and I'm not sure that's going to be compatible with what I have. Does anybody know?

I am not satisfied with the Bluetooth Phone call either. I hope there is a solution. I've been watching your thread. Do you have an external microphone? I think it might be a problem with the built-in microphone.
By the way, what does a USB DAC do? (Translate Google)

A USB dac is a way to get digital audio out from the head unit. This way it sounds a lot better. I'm running my own external amplifier. Yeah mine's actually legit and lets me run that fake test stuff, I suspect you're running Android 10 if they're stopping you from checking. That's kind of why I want to see if there's firmware out there for like there is for the TS-10s. That may be the case but for $400 or less there's just not much out there for my car. If I had the Bose system then I would have been fine but the non Bose there's only just now coming on to the market other decent options. However all of them are basically just variations of this unit. I know there's a ton of firmware out there for the TS-10s so I'm just wondering if there's one for the TS-18s

HU'nun arkasında harici bir amplifikatör çıkışı vardır. Sağ ön sol ve subwoofer için. Sanırım arka sol ve sağ çıkışı da var. Ama bir soket kablom yok (C3-C4 pin). (Google Çeviri)

This is true but the output levels are only 1.5 volts and the sample rate and audio quality is not amazing. A usb dac will bring better audio than the inbuilt chip as well as provide higher voltage. Also these do not have rear output so you have to use a line level converter which sucks because mine pops and crackles at above 70% volume.

For the call problem, I don’t have good new... I have exactly the same issue...
For detail (#my story) I bought this unit 6 month ago... everything works correctly except call issue... I exchange with the vendor since the beginning to work around… He made me lot of this update reset etc…. So the vendor send me a new mainboard. New version of Tlink (nice!!) but the call issue is exactly the same….
Now I bored, I will use it like that I think. In addition, I think this problem is due to the design of the board…
Ha, for Tlink at the beginning it was in version 1.6.9. It work pretty good to connect etc. after the big reset he give me version 1.8.9., in this version I have to execute two time the connection to the screen android auto…
Now with the new version it seem work correctly, I have to do some test. I have installed the board just this weekend… idem for the number of version

I bought Simcard + microphone harness from Aliexpress. They stated that my voice sounded good when calling directly from HU with a sim card. They also stated that their own voice echoed. I think in this case there may be a problem with the Bluetooth interface. I ordered an external microphone. I'm going to try how the sound will be with the external microphone. I installed a macrodroid drawer on the HU device for speed dialing, and I was satisfied as a quick search and a mapped screen split. I'll be glad when the volume down problem is solved.
By the way, does anyone know the steps to add eSim?

I haven't solved the problem but I have opened it up and discovered that it may be TS10 firmware compatible. I've also noticed that these boards are standardized so you may be able to just buy a standalone board like this one that is compatible with TS-10 which is a much more mature system

However, to be clear. I am pretty sure the problem is not on the Bluetooth. I have tried to runs an app like WhatsApp directly on the unit. The unit was connected by wifi on the house. And I observed exactly the same delay… In addition, to complete the vendor send me an application to update some parameter in the Bluetooth configuration (gocsdk) it doesn’t change anything n delay…

I installed this link from the manufacturer but I would not recommend. It is set to the wrong display resolution (1280 by 480) and I cant change it because it I cant press half the settings screen as it is out of view. Goin to try the other software next. Also this one from the manufacture seems to state it is android 12 and I am 90% sure it is not. very sketchy.
Edit: Do not do any of these installations without a backup. Otherwise you may mess up your machine. You need to back up your APKs and all your settings they're going to be in the factory settings I believe I'm going to make an instructional once I confirmed this worked

I did eventually get the install to work and it helped but its caused a bunch of other problems with audio quality and strangely enough google maps wont open. The delay went from 1-2 seconds to about .5 of a second call delay :/ these ts-18s are just ts-10s with a bunch of cost savings. Just trash, I am jumping ship and you should too. Just buy a ts-10 from the link I gave you and it will be a drop in replacement for the ts-18 you have. Also yeah post the update maybe someone else will find use for it The big issue with the install and what took me so long was that the dpi was set to 240 when it needed to be set to 140. This made the whole experience a pain because half of the options in the settings menu where unreachable. I had to enable engineering mode and go to the built in abd app (you can connect your laptop and do this remotely as well) and type in "adb shell wm density 140". here is a Link to get you started.

If ur Microphone dont work well in TS18 u should:
Turn Off Listening in Voice Assistent Google.

I have ts18 headunit and I did factory reset and I lost all my apps someone have backup or someting for I can have back my apps. And now I can't use tlink so I don't have android auto anymore. If I download tlink apk and install it I can't activate. I find other way to use android auto name is android headunit reloader it's working but is complicate to start like always need to go to my phone settings and start headunit server after this working fine but I don't want do this always when I want use android auto. Someone know something better apk for android auto?

Hi! I have exactly the same problem, how did you fix it? Is there any way to install the original app to connect your phone?

Trying to identify a UIS8581 unit

Is anyone able to help me identify what unit this is? Its meant to be a higher end unit but finding it really sluggish and also looking at some of the reports its using > 6GB of ram OOB out of 8GB (Not sure how the 2GB unit would have worked) .
Sometimes when turning it back on from standby when playing music etc its really jumpy as its its doing something in the background. Anyone got any recommendations on apps to show what using up all the CPU?
It appears to be a UIS8581 based unit, I have run the HWGetinfo tool on it but its reporting its not a FYT unit.

The version is retuned as "ZLH_AD_OS_1.24" and the MCU "ZLH_QXLA20830A_Q5H0_8581_13"

This is a completely known unit in here. Try search yourself in this forum for ZLA_ you won´t find anything.

Bit harsh - I have been search but how am I meant to know to search for ZLA not ZLH? Also, searching for "ZLA_" returns a total of 1 hit, a google search for `XDA developers "ZLA_"` also returns just a couple hits not in this forum?

ZLA was a typo... sorry.
My posting was not meant to be harsh, but this unit is really completely unknown on XDA.

Yeah that looks like the BMW equivalent to mine with a slightly different CPU

Talking with the seller, mine was sold by COIKA.
It seems that it follows some patterns that are very similar to other HU's, you just need to make the following to update for example, the boot logo:
Folder structure:
- HUTUpdate
- OS
- bootanimation.zip
- logo.png
- upgrade.en (empty file)
- upgrade.system (empty file)
So, if you find other examples of HU types that are Android-based, this may work.
To upgrade the MCU is
- HUTUpdate
- mcu
- upgrade.mcu
- BMW_8581.bin
I was trying to make backups with other tools, but no success yet.

Which HU do you have?

I have also an UIS8581 Unit von Coika. I have software version ZLH_AD_OS_1.86, and MCU LZH_qxha20830A_Q3H0_8581...
I have also some problems... the bluetooth does only work as a headset. you cant switch it on and use it as a normal conection for apps.
Once you switch to original system and then back, all apps are closed( spoitify etc) you need to restart them...
also my sim does not work at all, cause there is no APN setting in the system. once i try to enter it it says user is not able to change settings...
all in all the system is nor really well programmed and has lot of bugs.
If there is anyone who can help with get all the normal functions back pls contact me?

I use my phone via original Bluetooth on the car. I don't use zlink anymore. As I have the headunit online it makes it easier to use gmaps etc directly.
Do you have a SIM card installed? Does it work? My one does not connect as there is no apn and I cannot set new one. Did you bought it from coika?

i use only zlink...because i like the home of carplay..i don't use the sim card ...yes i bought from coika by aliexpress. for me you need disable original bluetooth of car..and use only headunit..one question..but the our unit is mtcd?

I don't know who is the main manufacturer. Coika says they are the own manufacturers. But don't belieb them. Struggling with the service people since days... Apps are closing after you switch to car system... bluetooth is only working with mobile phone...no obd device etc... SIM card is not working...but they keep me waiting

I installed the "Fake Device Test" app and it closes after 1 or 2 seconds (possible sabotage by the device?) but I managed to get the OS info by quickly flicking down the screen while videoing it, then playing back in slow motion. This confirmed the Android API level as 29 (ie Android 10). It also seems to confirm the claimed 8GB RAM and 1920x720 screen are correct.
I want to have a poke around with ADB and busybox, but so far haven't been able connect. The unit claims to be rooted.
Wireless Android Auto works, but one minor annoyance is that my phone seems to give up on Android Auto before the unit is ready to connect. A quick toggle of bluetooth and reconnect to the unit once it's ready is necessary. Also, you need to use a cable for AA when the ZLink app on the device is set to HD - wireless AA on HD delivers a pillarboxed display.
And despite all the images on AliExpress showing 5 icons per page in the launcher, I've only got 3 per page. Is this launcher configurable?
I don't know why exactly, but I have a nagging suspicion that the screen might be a lower resolution than reported, I need to see what the kernel/sysfs says. Do these units have a dmesg somewhere? Or could there be a problem caused by the screen being reported as only 7 inches, as I saw in the output of one of the System Info apps I tried? (Screen is actually 10.25 inches.
One thing I really want to do is get a full backup in case of future problems. Is using TWRP possible on these devices? There is a 1.5 GB "update.zip" on the internal storage, I need get a copy and examine it.
Investigations continue, I'll report back. In the meantime, does anyone have any thoughts on the above?
