I was struggling with my phone freaking out while doing video chat on either Teams and Duo. Both apps did the same thing and I provided feedback to their developers that it appeared to start on my note 20 ultra 5g when android 11 landed.
Today I realized that if I changed my video resolution for the phone display from FHD+ to WQHD+ the freezing stops altogether...
Anyone else able to test this out?
My video Resolution is set to 16:9 FHD 1920x1080 (30 fps) and I use Duo to TeleHealth VideoChat with two different Doctors on a regular basis with absolutely no problems! Works great - Android 11/OneUI 3.0. I don't use "Teams" - hate it!!!

I only have these three options
Yeah, that's screen resolution under "Display" - that's what I have also. What I was talking about was in Camera Video Settings! Open you're camera, go to settings and look for "Front Video Size" - select 16:9, then open the Resolution and see all the choices and grab what I said before.

I will have to check that out because that makes me wonder if the bug is a scaling issue between showing the preview of your camera on your display at different resolutions
I actually don't think one has anything to do with the other - my setting is probably what we're recording at to send to the other party!!! I have to log off so I'll check back later...

I checked and that's what mine was already. When using duo can you exit the app (while still on the call) and bounce between apps without issue?

Sorry, just got your question AND I'm not staying - I have never tried, like I said, I only use it for Doctor's Appointments and never have a need to leave during the appointment. Short Telehealth Appointments and done... over and out! ??? Hope that helped!

video call camera testing- possible?
is it possible to check the video cam? just turn it on to see if it's working (without entering the video call mode)?
Yes, the camera app allows you to switch to front facing camera
camera app?
I don't think that is possible, changing profiles using the camera app always use the back camera, not the video call one.

The coolcamera application can be set to use front cam. For example as a web cam Not a free application but can download it for trial purposes but it limits use to 25 seconds or something until you start it again.

My mistake, must have been the universal that allowed this
you could always call your video mailbox. still have to make a call though, but not to another person
nah i just wanted to see if my video cam works properly. done it with coolcamera, thanks
Does anyone know a app that allows for transmission of Tytn front camera pix over GPRS/3G, like a webcam? Over IP, not videocall. Cool Camera has extracted its webcam part as addon (on Dec. 5), so maybe it can do it now? Anyone tested?
Is there a way to check this is working without making a video call?
I have no 3G reception here and need to check it works before my 7 day return is up.
Thanks.
I heard there is a program called CoolCamera by Ateksoft which will let you do this. I have not tried it out yet, though.
Just call a land line you will see the front camera image for a moment and then the call will fail.

CoolCamera has that feature alright, but for some weird reason the video displayed is tilted sideways and there is no way to fix this inside CoolCamera settings...
What I did noticed tho, is that the video quality is of inferior quality and lower framerates.
Peace!

This is my first samsung. And I think i'm a bit spoiled as a nokia n900 user. But the recorded sound on my samsung galaxy is just horrible in comparison to my n900.
Last night I went to a show of cypress hill here in the Netherlands. And started recording. The video quality is super. Only the noise makes it almost impossible to distinguish any of the songs etc. I mean really horrible.
After some research i found out that users with the samsung omnia had this same issue, and they found a solution wich was adjusting some settings in the hidden menu of the phone.
Is it also possible to adjust these settings in the galaxy s i9000?
Below are the settings for the omnia hd reducing
with phonepad digit *#0002*28346#
then 3) Record
then 04) CamcordARM_AMR (this is volume gain in video record)
Go to
TxMicAmp : 24
digit 18#
and then when you go back will see
TxMicAmp : 25
Then go to
Tx Channel: 18
digit 18#
and then when you go back will see
Tx Channel: 18
To save all changes go back back
6)Backup and will show "Backup OK"
Yeah I noticed the heavy clipping (sounds like static, noise, distortion) in all of the Galaxy S recordings. I haven't really seen anyone else mention it.
However the Omina HD runs Windows Mobile does it not? Totally different OS there..
this should show that menu *#197238640#
Any luck with this? I have opened the service menu, but no idea what to do after that.
i also would like a fix for this!

I got the same problem when I try to run VOIP application. The noise is so terrible. I can enter "service mode", but I don't know how to setup them either.
Same here, video recording is quite useless like this... Went to a concert last evening and video is great but sound is ultimate crap! As in one big pile of noise.
But also when recording a video in the car, with just the radio on, is stretching it... It is at least possible to distinguish different sounds but already distorted.
Such a shame! Any fix for this would be great (and couldn't find much in the servicemode settings unfortunately).
I'm using the JM2 firmware and the sound of recorded videos is poor.
I wish we found the solution, as I had found on i8910
Meh, contacted samsung helpdesk (mail) and got a standard response
'We are currently developing a firmware update, please keep an eye out for it on the samsung website'. (translated from dutch ).
My guess is the firmware update won't fix a thing since it's still present in JM2 but we'll see.

In other words: keep waiting. Saying it will be fixed in next release is the best way to keep customers happy without doing anything
But on the other side maybe with 2. 2 it will be fixed.

Yup, I know... But what can you do. They prolly also don't know much about the technical stuff.
At least there's a new firmware coming up, I think I'll give JP3 another shot and see if things have improved there.
Hey guys,
anyone tried playing with *#*#197328640#*#* => audio => handset => diamond solution => voice booster? or acoustic shock free? sounds like something related to me, gonna try.

that's a good tip
can more people confirm if this optimization works well?
if so, then we can put this as a sticky / FAQ / wiki
Disregard my post about Diamond solution, it's for headphones. I'm pretty sure some parts of the service menu => audio => handset could be tweaked to make audio recording better, just need someone who knows what means what.
There is a way to alter the recording volume during the recording however it requires adb shell and it only lasts for the duration of the remainder of the recording.

That's something at least, wanna share that?
Also I found a quick and dirty workaround if you wanna record some music before some kind of fix appears - just put your finger on the mic hole while recording ^^
Hello All,
I have searched everywhere for a solution to my problem and even just got off the phone with Dell Mobility!
My problem (and I imagine "every" Streak owner's!) is that I cannot find anywhere in/on/around the Streak (running "318" - "00-US" Froyo) to set the resolution of picutures taken using the 5MP rear facing camera. I just took some pics and they are all 640x480! After looking at my gallery, I noticed that all pics taken with version 1.6 were all "max megapixel and quality" (300K-to-700K bytes), now all the pics are "vga" (50k-to-80k bytes) in size!
Dell mobility tried on several of their cameras, no luck! I just downloaded the version 2.2 User's Manual from Dell's website, again no luck!
So I'm throwing this out to the XDA community, does anyone have any idea how to set the image size (resolution) and quality level using the latest Froyo firmware?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Regards.
UPDATE:
Just got a callback from Dell Mobility, they have confirmed that the ability to use the 5MP rear facing camera as anything other than a VGA camera was lost in the 2.2 upgrade!
Or put another way, its a feature of Dell's Froyo build(s)!!!!
The customer suport rep. commented that if more people call and complain about not being able to actually use ther 5MP camera, perhaps Dell may then consider fixing it!!!!!!! Completely ignoring the fact that this is not an isolated "bug", but a major design, implementation and verification flaw - how this got through testing, I/we will never know!!!!
Hopefully someone here in XDA land can figure out a quicker fix?
Thanks.
what a bunch of goofballs.
morons.
I dont think this is a bug.it works just fine on 318.
Once your in the camera app click on the settings icon and scroll to the resolution and change it to 5M.

You are correct!
I (nor Dell's Mobility staff - ) ever noticed that the top settings dialog menu is actually scrollable!
It is not documented anywhere in Dell's Streak product guides or manuals!
Thanks Again!
I just noticed that if I had ever had the Streak in Portrait orientation and went to the settings menu, I would have noticed more stuff on the menu - in comparision to my oft used Landscape mode!
They should have text "Scroll for More..." on the menu... Or some other obvious indication that there is more stuff in the menu...
Regards.
.
actually, the camera resets itself to vga once you switch to front cam and then switch back. its like this in steve's froyo build too because the camera framework isnt designed to work with two cameras.

Works fine here on Android 2.2 (318_12821_00). You just have to select the settings icon at the top then flick your finger 'UP' to scroll down to resolution settings.
Dell doesnt seem to have a clue about anything.
missing zoom in camera (video) menu
Another feature which is msising in this 2.2 is the zoom in videomode 2.1 upd 1 had this option! Can't seem to find it here in the menu... Any of u guys found a way?
Hi, just want to double check with other users about the Picture size/ratio of the Whatsapp Camera.
On my S8 it is currently 1:1 even though the camera is 4:3, is this the same for everyone? Can you change this?
No biggie, its just annoying me a little, as I swear it was 16:9 on my S6.
Also when i rotate the camera to landscape, the picture is still 1:1 and the camera rotates in the opposite way.... then crashes...
I'll upload pictures if anyone wants
Screenshots
me too on s8 and a friend of mine with his s8+
Hi I don't use that app but have you looked at what settings are on your camera?
Also maybe the app ain't rdy just yet for the s8 might need updating.
And have you tried running app in full screen mode?
Just a few suggestions but hope you get it sorted.
Same here me on my S8 plus. Friend at work has an S8 and his is fine and we are on the same Whatsapp version number.
I have a UK XEU version from the Carphone Warehouse.
I too have similar camera problem in WhatsApp when using on my S8. It was not there when I first installed. There was a system update and after doing that this camera problem as started. Can anyone help? Previously I was using S7 and never had any problems.
Whatsapp can't use full screen mode yet, and no solution at 1:1 camera which works only in portrait mode
the cameras within other apps are often not as good as the stock camera.
for best quality at least, i normally use the stock camera app, and then just share the image
I set full hd then become normal on WhatsApp camera full screen ratio.
Same issue here. If I rotate camera in whatsapp, the image is rotated wrong.
The solution!!!!
Hey Guys i just found out the solution for the problem!!
Its the resolution of the phone that messed up the camera.
Settings -> Display -> Screen resolution -> Set screen to FHD+
I had it on WQHD+ 2960x1440 and that gave me some weird resolutions on whatsapp (also the problems with rotation of the phone/camera)
then i just changed the resolution of the phone and the problem was fixed!!!
Hope it works for you too!!

Yeah, I can confirm that.
Which means that Whatsapp is not supporting WQHD+ yet.
I have just added Whatsapp in Game Tuner, to run it in FHD+ (75% WQHD+).
Is there any way to make apps like: YouTube, WatchESPN, NBC Sports, Dish Anywhere, etc. display full screen video around the camera instead of being cut of. Due to the cut off up top YouTube video's are also cut off at the bottom of the screen slightly.
Really interested in this also! Maybe with root?
I can say that MX Player videos get cropped and I wish they didn't.

Youtube Apk
There is a YouTube modded apk that allows the pinch to zoom feature to work for irregular aspect ratios. Im not 100% sure if this will work on the Essential Phone however it works perfectly fine on the LG G6, it should just crop out some of the video so it can go full screen. Just download the MS Config file and the YouTube apk, dark theme is optional. Unfortunately I cannot post any links as I am a new user, but you can find a link on the LG G6 full screen YouTube thread.

Amazon Prime full screen display for 21:9 movies
Saw "Arrival" with Amazon Prime app which utilizes the whole screen including the camera notch bar. Wow! what a sight. Hope Netflix, Hulu and some other video player app can do the same soon.
I'm really upset at the lack of immersive experience. Not a single video app takes advantage of this beautiful screen-- excepting Amazon which is hit or miss with full screen. It seems to differ from video to video...
Anyone know a tweak or a hack to get some immersive support?
Thanks

Viewing in fullscreen is possible with the aforementioned app. The pinch to zoom doesn't work due to the notch fill in not being enabled. To use fullscreen download the app, enable developer options, and once you've enabled developer options go to essential notch settings, set per application, and choose the app. Then click always use notch area. Pinch to zoom will now allow video to fill the screen, and the YouTube app will make use of the new formatting.
