Front video camera - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

video call camera testing- possible?
is it possible to check the video cam? just turn it on to see if it's working (without entering the video call mode)?

Yes, the camera app allows you to switch to front facing camera

camera app?
I don't think that is possible, changing profiles using the camera app always use the back camera, not the video call one.

The coolcamera application can be set to use front cam. For example as a web cam Not a free application but can download it for trial purposes but it limits use to 25 seconds or something until you start it again.

My mistake, must have been the universal that allowed this

you could always call your video mailbox. still have to make a call though, but not to another person

nah i just wanted to see if my video cam works properly. done it with coolcamera, thanks

Does anyone know a app that allows for transmission of Tytn front camera pix over GPRS/3G, like a webcam? Over IP, not videocall. Cool Camera has extracted its webcam part as addon (on Dec. 5), so maybe it can do it now? Anyone tested?

Is there a way to check this is working without making a video call?
I have no 3G reception here and need to check it works before my 7 day return is up.
Thanks.

I heard there is a program called CoolCamera by Ateksoft which will let you do this. I have not tried it out yet, though.

Just call a land line you will see the front camera image for a moment and then the call will fail.

CoolCamera has that feature alright, but for some weird reason the video displayed is tilted sideways and there is no way to fix this inside CoolCamera settings...
What I did noticed tho, is that the video quality is of inferior quality and lower framerates.
Peace!

Videocall without front camera?

It is possible make videlcalls with PDA without front camera like HTC Touch 3G?
I think is only a dialer problem!.. or not?
Any help?
Nobody? Any help?
If there's a way I would love to hear it too. Have a CDMA Diamond, and can think of plenty of situations it'd be useful to make a video call where the other person can see what I'm pointing the camera at, especially if I can combine it with speakerphone.
why don't u guys try qik.com? it offers u the ability to live broadcast a video feed from your camera. and if you are on 3G, u can talk and send video at the same time.

I just installed it and tried it out, but I can't seem to figure out any way to send my video feed directly to another phone? It seems like it automatically puts it online to my qik account, but there's no way to have an interactive conversation with a viewer while it's streaming?

you are right, it just does this. i thought this is what you are looking for. if the other party is on 3G, they can view your feed on the website, just a work around.
I used to have a Hermes, Cingular 8525 variant without the front facing camera. I flashed it with a rom that supports video calling. The result - I can make/receive a video call. I can see the other person I'm talking with, but he can't see me.

Samsung Galaxy S i9000 - Front Facing Camera?

Front facing camera or not?
I found few sources where they say there is front facing camera on Samsung Galaxy S i9000 for video chat.
Can some one confirm this?
Yes there is one and there are even hands-on videos showing it being used (I forgot where )
eh I watch all videos of Samsung Galaxy S and didn't find such video.
It comes with front facing camera and have a button in the call screen to do video call but personally, i dont use that feature since non of my friends / family use that so i cant tell you if it works properly.
But you can try to use front face video camera with fring (over skype service). To video conf with someone who have skype.
I don't want to use that for 3g video call that is very bad but over internet with fring can be nice.

would be great to see it in action, or with Qik.
Fring doesnt currently support the Front facing camera on the Galaxy S. I'm hoping this situation changes v soon !

the new version supports front cams, it might be model specific do you have a link which says otherwise?
just installed and its probably the worst software i've tried so i uninstall.
1) cannot load any contacts from skype
2) load itself even i specifically uncheck to load at startup
3) after i exit, it still stays in memory
i looked at the comments on market and they are mostly negative

I tried the Video Call Test on fring and it works.. I don't know if it'll work on an actual Fring to Fring video call..
Fring still have problems with my Galaxy S, it mutes my phone whenever I make a call.. & it does not transmit my voice..
has anyone made a successful Fring Call???

You got it to make a Video call using the front camera ? Surprised as Fring say they are still working on it and I can't do one with my phone.

Forgiven
lol back camera??? is that even possible? I mean back camera would be much better quality for video streaming.
It uses the back camera at present, which would be good for streaming as you suggested. Ideally a mechanism to switch between both would be ideal !
Yes!! That would be great
I have another question. If you install fring and you are online.
1.) Do you have option to check 'start this application when Galaxy S start' ?
2.) Can this application be in background so if you got call over skype phone will ring? I mean can this phone will be used primary like SKYPE phone?
how does the inbuilt video calling work, ie the one in the contacts menu. What types of phones can it call?? is it some open protocol?
Fring improves audio, adds support for Samsung Galaxy S
http://androinica.com/2010/07/21/fring-improves-audio-adds-support-for-samsung-galaxy-s/
Just upgraded and did my test call with the forward facing camera baby! All good.
Now I'm sure the next thing people will be asking for is being able to switch between the two.

[Q] Front Facing Camera Question

I'm tying to figure out how to use the front camera for taking pictures. I can do the video stuff no problem, just not take pictures. Seems silly the native camera app would not offer this.
From what I read, there should be an option in qik to do this, but from the one I downloaded from the market, I'm not seeing this option. I'm running Frankenstein and have checked through all the various mod paqs and there is no qik app in there that may have this feature enabled. What am I missing?

Inside the camera app... Click the Top left icon on the screen and select Self-Shot.
Is that what you are looking for?
Perfect thanks so much! Guess the internet docs on this not working through the camera app are wrong.

Don't know about stock rom but in cm7 I use volume key to focus and when released it takes photo. Very handy, almost like normal camera.
Sent from my u8800 using XDA App
With the stock rom and the stock camera app its not possible to do this!
Its one of the many features of the cm7 rom that i missed at the stock rom but the Fm radio is a big disadvantage for the time!
Camera ZOOM FX was 0.10$ until yesterday. It is a full blown camera app, with all the button customization you could imagine.
from TT ideos x5
After trying some hours the zoom fx must say that its much better that the standard app!!
First i set the button to the Volume up button and the only bug is that every time you take a picture you hear the sound from the normal use of the button (ringer volume)
Now i will try the camera 360 because i forgot it yesterday an choose one of them for the everyday use!
I really like Lightbox as it comes with a number of filters to give the photos a nice effect. I don't even use the stock application anymore.
i'll use lgcamera for video recording because you can choose AAC audio encoder witk 48kHz and 128Kbps. Very good audio quality.

Video problem (focus hunts)

Does anyone else have a problem with video recording? No matter which app I use the camera hunts for focus occasionally resulting in the frame zooming in and out, or out and in, slightly. I can't manage to get more than 3/5 seconds of rock solid framing?
I have the same issue (LineageOS 14.1) and came here to ask which app I should use to avoid this problem!
This video shows the refocusing really well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCcEp3oD4aY

Do you use the stock ROM or a custom ROM like I do?
Maybe ZTE will repair your phone?

It looks like your camera is refocussing a lot more frequently than mine!
I'm running the Stock ROM and camera app at the moment. I don't think it's a hardware problem as the camera does not refocuss when taking a still photo.
I can't have ZTE look at it as there's no service center in the UK (and I bought it from Gearbest).

You are right! :good: I changed the 'touch focus duration' in the LOS camera app from '0s' to 'infinite' and now the focus does only change if I click elsewhere!
There should a similar setting in the stock camera app!

Can you upload a screenshot of the video settings?
You mean 'Open Camera' (Camera App) - https://f-droid.org/app/net.sourceforge.opencamera? Which setting you changed? I had no refocussing without changing any setting.

Using Open Camera has fixed the problem for me!
The stock camera app only seems to have fixed focus settings for the stills camera!

Yes it took a while to find the settings! The continuous autofocus setting ("c") causes my Mini to hunt for focus every 2/3 seconds. All the other settings work as expected with no hunting.
Doh! I've just found that you can lock focus and exposure using the Stock camera app! You just need to long press on the target circle after you have selected the object you want to focus on.
https://youtu.be/Un0FJCYKTcM?t=216
Once locked you can choose another object to focus another and it will lock focus on that without having to long press again.
