Since software updates are now EOL on the OnePlus5 in the next year I'll probably be jumping onto a custom rom.
Out of curiosity how is Lineage 17 on the oneplus 5 are there any severe issues currently?
I'll probably ride out oxygen OS until android 11 is more common but I'm thinking this is where I'm moving to after.
I tried it for a day and it was really good, lots of features, but my problem was that the stock camera was not working, and the available cameras never worked properly with all the features (HDR, 60fps for video, slow motion, etc) so ended up going back to OOS.
I've been on LIneage 17.1, the build from 15th Feb and everything works wonderfully EXCEPT for the fact that my Oneplus 5 tends to die at a random points - it shuts down, black screen, the only option is then to hold the power button to fire it up again. That's quite a significant fail!
To be fair, it's a phone I received second hand and I never ran the last OOS (Oxygen) build for it that came from the manufacturer so not sure if there's an underlying problem with the phone or battery itself.
My next step is probably to revert to the last OOS build and see if the same situation occurs. If it doesn't occur again with OOS I'll probably go back Lineage once it gets to Android 11 or 12.

Just to put an update to my earlier post: the battery on my OnePlus 5 phone was a dud - I've replaced the battery, and the Oneplus 5 as well as Lineage 17.1 have been working like a dream! I highly recommend Lineage 17.1

I got the base rom to run pretty good once I turned off all notifications and animations, and set the max number of background processes to 4
I like los14.1... but I've barebones the build by deleting everything I don't want and then I added some tweaks to make it feel real good.
All the custom roms are more or less the same (except for stock based like stock+ rom) because they are all made from Steel01's sources baked with custom rom specific files. So pick the one you find the prettiest or the most useful...
Hi All
What is latest ROM , there is any stability one from end of 2018 . Maybe someone working on new one ?
It depends what you're going for on your tablet. If you're aiming to keep all the Nvidia specific features I would recommend the 5.4.1 stock+ rom. If you don't care about any of that I believe that lineage is the way to go. Between the two, performance is the same for the most part, lineage is based on 7.1.2 though instead of 7.0, so you get a few newer features. If I have time later to come back to this I'll link them.

I've been trying the 5.4.1+ rom. For some reason it crashes and boot loops after installing Swift Keyboard Damn, I really like that keyboard. Then I updated Magisk on it, to get a message saying the new Magisk app isn't supported. So I uninstalled it to download the previous version and that caused a bootloop now too
Just flashed it again, hopefully it works better this time.
I am also wondering what is the best ROM for my K1 is?
First off, I bought this tablet used. Did some research and found out about the battery recall, mine is not one of them, as in I have the newer/better battery.
Secondly I did update the stock rom to 5.4 but the battery drain was horrendous. No gaming, just surfing facebook or the internet was a draining the battery in a few hours. Even in standby on my nightstand, battery was almost dead the next morning. Then after some research many people said to downgrade to 5.2 which I did and it pretty much fixed the battery drain issue.
Then I found out about LineageOS and decided to install 15.1, performance is good, but does still experience some battery drain issues, but not as bad as 5.4.
I also know that earlier this year LineageOS has returned support for the Nividia Shield K1 tablet, but is that for OS 17 and how long do I have to wait for that version?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

On 5.4 to get regular battery usage you have to enable custom cpu profiles, the default profile doesn't idle properly and the cpu's stay in a higher frequency state. You can then have all 4 cores enabled and it will idle properly (well it does for me), and you have nvidia driver support for the original wifi game controller which i have.
Otherwise, if you use a LineageOS 14 build, you can have full hardware video acceleration, on 15 builds you won't have hardware video acceleration.
So what your saying is I can go back to 5.4 and just play with the settings? Any special apps to do this, or just all within the android settings that need changing in order to have the performance and stop the battery drain problem?
If it's just the android settings, what are the settings I need to change? Tutorial?
Thanks
AOSP extended from bit obsession is a bit old but still snappy!

honestly, i think we are all screwed
my tablet wont charge at all now. it shows the icon on the screen saying it is charging but it doesnt charge at all. sometimes i can get about 10% on it.
the computer no longer recognises the device and i have only ever used official ota firmwares for it
spoke to Nvidia and all i got was the out of warrenty response.
they no longer care in anyway about shield tablet users and as it is discontinued its not like you can even buy a replacement. you cant buy secondhand either because theyll all just have the same bollocks battery issues we have on ours now.
I'll contribute a data point for anyone reading in late-2019 going into 2020:
I'm on Stock+ 5.4.1 on my K1 and it has been great for me so far in the last few weeks since I flashed it. I had been on the stock Marshmallow firmware for the past three years and was having the typical lag issues on wake. It was so severe that the tablet was completely unusable coming out of a deep sleep. It was also a chore to reboot it because even the lag on holding down the power button was agonizing and unpredictable. It was worse than booting Windows with an old hard drive.
I've had no lag-on-wake issues with Stock+ 5.4.1 so far. It's like coming back to remember why I liked this tablet in the first place after hating it for the past couple of years. I hadn't used it for anything other than daily alarms over the past year and change, but lately, I've been using it for bedside reading again instead of my phones.
To address a few of the issues that have been brought up in this thread:
I haven't had any battery drain issues with Stock+ 5.4.1. It seems to do about the same on my K1 as Marshmallow did, which was 100% to 15% on idle except for daily alarms (and snoozes) from Sunday through Saturday.
I ordered a new 6000 mAh replacement battery from AliExpress and will be installing it when needed. My current battery life isn't great, but it's not horrible either. I think it still manages to have about 80% of its original capacity.
After installing Stock+ 5.4.1, I flashed the latest Magisk 20.1 zip (Stock+ 5.4.1 came with Magisk 16.0) from within TWRP at a later date with no issues. Magisk 18+ is not compatible with Magisk Manager versions older than 7.0.0, but the old versions of Magisk Manager were bad in that they would always ask you to update to the latest version regardless of what version of Magisk you had installed. Basically, Magisk Manager was asking you for permission to nuke itself.
I have never used the official Facebook or Messenger apps, but virtually every comment I've ever read about them say that they're battery killers. Use a third-party app that combines both and has a smaller memory footprint.
I used to be an avid user of SwiftKey, but I've since soured on it. I haven't installed it on my K1 since the firmware upgrade and I don't know if I will going forward. The biggest benefit of SwiftKey used to be the dedicated number row, but its predictive swiping was the worst I had ever used. I'm on Gboard now and it seems to be working well. The only feature I miss from SwiftKey is the arrow keys to move the text cursor.
I am also wondering what is the best ROM. I got a K1 used as well not too long ago, and I mostly want to use it as a study tool for some CompTIA certifications in 2020, so viewing PDF's/word docs, exam simulations, and tutorial videos will be it's primary function. I do like comics so I would like it to perform snappy.
I really have no interest in gaming or social media.

I went with a stock-based ROM because I still wanted all of the tablet's functionality to work as designed, even though I've never played games on my K1 using a controller or created an Nvidia account. However, as long as retaining those features won't cause the device to run poorly and there isn't anything inherently poor about the stock experience, I don't mind. Stock-based ROMs are usually easier to set up and install. Nvidia stock firmware isn't known for being particularly bloated or heavy like that of some phone manufacturers, but of course LineageOS is still going to be faster at the cost of some device-specific features.
Given your intended use, as long as you use something newer than the stock Marshmallow firmware and its wake lag issues, you probably don't need to worry about much else.
I decided to dig my K1 out of the closet and have a play with over the holidays. I just flashed the stock recovery 5.20 but for some reason I cannot update or download any apps from the Google Play Store. I keep getting error 963. I searched how to fix this but nothing has worked.
Anyone else been able to fix this?
Anyone tried running the LineageOS build meant for the 6 on the 6t? At https://stats.lineageos.org/model/fajita it looks like there's been some movement back in December but nothing recent. Anyone know who the dev for it even is?
I ran OP6 build a while back, it ran fine, only minus the FP sensor obviously. It would definitely be nice to get a dedicated 6T build. Im definitely waiting for a Lineage build.
I just attempted installing the non-official 6t version of lineage. Generally seemed to work OK, except for making and receiving calls (which I thought was important for a phone), so I am trying something else.
So, many ROMs are out with Fingerprint working.. for anyone who tried some of those ROMs, which ROM has fingerprint working better?
They are all using the same patches. I've tried Pixel Experience and Omni, didn't really notice a difference between the two really. Honestly though, other than sometimes having to lift and press right back down sometimes, I might be tempted to say recognition might have been better than OOS with a single print registered.
Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect, but it's off to a very good start. It definitely still has it's bugs.
I have been using carbonrom since yesterday. Fingerprints seem to work equal to stock. I do not think you will notice much of any bugs. I am sure in time things will get better but even stock sometimes I had to lay my finger down twice. Much better finger print than the sony xzp.
Sidenote: I used carbonrom on my Sony xzp with microg some apps like CNN,credit karma and some others needed some shoe honing to get them to work without gapps. This newest carbonROM seems flawless. I sure there will be dragons but so far things are quite smooth.
My OP6t arrived today from Amazon {upgrading from my OP5 which I've owned since new}
Very much undecided on which custom rom to flash. Booted the OP6t up earlier and must say I do like the look of the OOS. But then again I'm running CNP on the OP5.
Decisions decisions.. ?
The stock ROM debloated with xXx is great so long as you don't mind not using microg. I was using the beta 7 for a week or so until the fingerprint patches came out.
I'm using the latest build of Pixel Experience. The FP works quite well. Still a little glitchy at times but not bad! I was on OB 7.
Title says it all...is upgrading to Android Q worth it?
Currently running Sky Dragon ROM and the current build I believe is based off Android 9.0.13. I've been so pleased with it I haven't thought about flashing anything else until I saw we got a stable Android Q build.
I've read plenty of threads where users were having issues flashing and just GETTING to Android 10 on the 6t. Nevermind the issues I've seen with people who are on 10 with apps misbehaving, bugs, etc.
Just looking for honest mini reviews of the 6t's latest OOS experience before I embark on the journey of getting there.
So, those of you who have made the jump, is it really worth it?
Thanks in advance!
-Pain
There is no question of worth it or not, Pie support (security especially) is now dropped, you won't have a choice if you want to keep an up-to-date and secure device.
And problems reported only concern a minority a people. And now there is a fully working TWRP for A10.
I'd say it is worth it. There are many new features which make using the phone very convenient. I haven't faced any issues with the ROM itself, just some times magisk prompt won't appear when an app requests root. ROM is stable. Also installed radioactive kernel now its running even better. I clean flashed android 10, it is always better to clean flash such major updates.
In my experience, I have a stock T-Mobile variant, converted to international version. And updated to A10 and didn't last a week without wanting to revert back. All the bugs reported in other threads all happened to me. From random reboots (just twice happened), fingerprint animation staying on after unlock, some lag on the screen when scrolling, the loss of the Play store certification along with the GPay because of this. I just decided to revert back. Downloaded the full wipe downgrade which kind of soft bricked the phone but nothing the MSM tool wouldn't fix and now I'm back on 9.0.17. I'll just wait for a more stable release. For me at least I'd say it's not worth it yet...
I wanna say wait for the official OTA release. I see a lot of people are complaining about issues with the new update. But there are also people who are full satisfied with the update with no issues. If you are using your OP6T as a daily driver I would say wait for a week or two more to see if the new update drops officially and do that.
Definitely worth it. I've had one random slowdown (resolved with a reboot) and a single crash reboot where I got stuck on the boot animation and had to hard boot, but they're the only negatives. There's a bug with the haptic vibration on key presses being stuck on maximum, but the benefits are many - great battery life, apps open much faster, fingerprint reader and general UI responsiveness is much better.
For me it's worth it especially since the baked in swipe to go back into the os, I've been using 3rd party apps for that functionality since early days...
I think it is worth it specially once I figured out how to get root. I don't have twrp installed and not sure I need it. Battery is good and I really like the launcher. No need to install any themes at this point.
EDIT
Just flashed Twrp with Magisk works perfect.
Code:
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
Installation:
If you are on stock OS, you need a custom recovery first.
If you are coming from stock or other ROMs, you need to make a factory reset.
If you are coming from the official rom you can dirty flash from the last official lineageos version which is in this case 20200419
If you are coming from LineageOS 15.1 with f2fs userdata, you need to format the userdata partition!
As always, make sure to backup before installing this ROM.

This is an unofficial build based on updated LineageOS sources and the same device tree made by mikeioanna and the other contributors, the only difference is that it has the latest security updates which in this case is the 5 april 2021 security update, and I will continue updating this until either android stops security updates for this version, or something major happens that breaks the build.
Is it stable?
Yes, for me it has been, even when dirty flashing from the official rom to this build. Battery life is good and there is no overnight battery drain.
Last change: 27-4-2021
Please dont report bugs even though I havent found any yet as im just posting builds using the updated lineageos sources, and im not an android developer.
Thanks very much.
Thanks a lot for the time and effort you put into that!

YES this great ROM for Lenovo P2 is stable, there are no issues and works OK.
Downgraded from Lineage OS 17.1 (20210117) due to high battery usage.
Tested on Los 17.1 vs Los 16.0 (20210201 security update your edition) on a P2a42 with a 4 years old battery...
Config: Similar settings on both Los 17.1 and 16.0, NO gapps, No other apps installed and NO comms (OFF- wi-fi, bt, nfc and data -no sim) SOT 5-10 min only to check settings once; and didn't touch the phone for 24h in both tests.
On Los 17.1 (20210117) battery usage 14% in 24h and on your Los 16.0 only 8% in 24h.
HUGE difference in battery usage, almost half, (estimated stand by time is 14 days!)
@ simbanono
Can you have a look at my post on Lineage OS 17.1 for P2 forum and see what you think about my comments about FMRadio app permisions... on Los 16 vs Los 17.1. Could this permisions cause background CPU load and affect the battery drain?

Thanks for your great work for our phone!
I honestly cant tell, im not a developer, im only someone who prefers battery life over features, I wouldnt doubt you about the FM permissions, but I dont know for sure, all I know is that android 9 is still the best for battery life and am just dissapointed that most of the people go on the Android 10 bandwagon when battery life sucks for a phone based all around battery life.
TLDR: the only thing I do is use the latest Lineageos sources using the old device tree from mikeioanna which has worked out so far.
Also heads up: I will build every month (1st of the month) until it becomes too unstable for my liking.
Thanks for your prompt reply.
I also prefer long battery life over other features and it was one of the main criteria in buying this phone 4 years ago!
Great news I will follow up your example and use your builds, the phone works very well withou any issues so far.
Let's hope that on the new development Lineage os 18 the battery life will be at least as good as Lineage os 16.0.
Maybe there will be a lean and clean build Lineage 18 for testing / debugging without any extra apps such as players/radio etc.

Looking forward to security updates
Well I hope its still maintained since I saw 16.0 is being discontinued.
Even CyanogenMod 14.1 (Android 7/Nougat; https://review.lineageos.org/q/topic:%22n-asb-2021-02%22) still gets the security patches, LineageOS 16 has plenty of time left.

Has this project been abandoned?
I would welcome a new build every third month or quarter. Every month could be a bit ambitious...
Projects not abandoned and yes I was thinking about doing it every 3 months like you said, since I also dont need the latest security update every month.

Hi,
I use your Feb 1 build for few weeks and I didn't notice any significant / noticeable diference in the phone speed / functionality so far. Battery life is at least as good if not a bit better than last official Los16.1 from April last year. I'm a light user.
Did not run any speed / SoT tests. (such as AnTuTu)
