The phone has been released for a month now, but there are 0 development threads. In the past I owned phones like HTC HD2 and Pocophone F1, 5 II is my first Sony smartphone. Ever since the HD2, development has been one of the most important things when buying a phone to me, but this time I didn't see a lot of options. Now I'm worried I won't be able to use the 5 II to it's full potential.

Like I said, Sony seemed like the only way to go. I hate big screens, I'll never use Exynos and I'm done with giving my money to chinese corporations.

What's up guys!!
I think i am finally gonna settle with this awesome device till the end of this year at least
Everything is perfect to me, except the partial 4k display. I have read some work around the forums, still it's a WIP.
When i purchased my first Z series mobile, the xZ it had a great community to rely up on & we didn't even need to wait for updates from Sony.
Till the Z3 line up, the development is good. What happened with the Z4 & Z5?
OK, **** the Z4
Z5 seems to be a great mobile in terms of hardware but why there is no development even after 9 months of the mobile launch?
May be it's a over priced device.
May be the stock fw is too good?
People forgot about this device?
What ever it is, i feel if this mobile needs the attention of dev's to make it perfect. Please tag the people who still develop for Sony Mobiles....
May be we should start collecting a Bounty? so that dev's time are compensated?
Call me selfish for making this thread, it is too disappointing to see the world's first 4k device for not being honored.
Peace

http://www.gizchina.com/2017/04/26/zuk-mobile-going-shut-according-analyst-pan-jiutang/
That is some sad news for us
At least we have some awesome devs that will continue doing their awesome work for our phone!
I bought the Z2 for backup device and flash Lineage OS. 64GB/4GB with Snapdragon 820 and big battery for 150€...
I think with stock rom I will not buy it, even for 100€.
I wouldn't trust some no name Chinese analyst. And even if this is true, they will still continue to support Zuk devices for a few years, like Nokia did. And to those who complain, I have a special deal for you: right now you can get Xperia XZ, a similar device, which is available for preorder at some change: 749 euros. http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_xz_premium_eu_preorders_open_next_week_at__euro749-news-24774.php And keep in mind, on custom roms you will have a camera quality of a feature phone. Although, Sony isn't going anywhere, they abandon their devices after 2 versions of Android. So, if Xperia XZ was released with MM, that means, they will abandon the device after Android O, which means next year Good luck...

my main concern is not about updates because we have some awesome devs like you that will keep our device updated with custom ROMs, my concern is actually that we may not have any 5-inch phone with snap 835 for a really good price since now it seems 5.5-inch is the standard.
If you plan to use it for 2 or 3 years, you should wait what is around in 3 years and not in half a year.

I plan on using it until it starts becoming problematic. Could be months or years.
My previous phone (Zenfone) started having a lot of problems in 8 months and I didn't use custom ROMs on it, it was just the stock ROM all along and a lot of problems. If my ZUK Z2 starts showing problems and I can't fix, I will want to buy another phone with at least the same specs and size, so I hope they release another "budget" until then.

EDIT: XDA put my review in here for some reason.
As for developer strength, the G6 is easy enough to unlock/root, and with great band support and a cheap price it's likely to get some interest when Motorola stops updating it.
You can compare interest in various Motorola phones by scrolling through here to get a better idea: https://forum.xda-developers.com/motorola
It's a good affordable phone, but never really picked up popularity in the community when comparing to the big guns. Despite being easy to unlock/root, there still isn't a feasible way to upgrade the OS on a rooted phone without having to do a hard wipe each time.
Not to necro an old thread, but we should comment on where this forum was in 2019 vs 2020. Many developments have been made, 64 bit ROMS have been launched, major improvement year over year. As a power user, I'm very happy with the forum currently.
Cheers.

Slow for updates. Not many options I see being developed for it.
Why isn't there a holographic display smart ring/watch yet?
I'm getting mine tomorrow, but I really hope that they either fix their update issues or let us unlock the bootloader! Hopefully the fact that it's part of the Q beta in Korea is a sign of good things to come!!!
It has a lot of Android that made me get into custom ROMs in the first place; Lots of options and functionality. For a locked phone, it's pretty flexible. I'm less experienced, what does the community think of the claims that locking the bootloader increases security?
The LG G7 never received a single Custom ROM afaik...
I'm disappointed that such a great phone doesn't have much of a community. I'd do something if I could but I just don't have the knowledge or skill set to be of much help.
I came from the XT1254 that I had for 5 years and loved it. Got this G8 and so far I'm liking it Alot. Could be just the 5 years in between but, good phone! I would love to see bl unlock and /or root! ?
It's been two and a half years using zuk2 plus and I am mesmerized by the development support it has till now. I have used many budget xiaomi Redmi series phone in between but so far Zuk 2 plus beats them all in terms of Roms stability Developers made. A very big THANK YOU to all the developers for their hard work.
I'm planning to upgrade my phone which will have good developers support like this phone. ONE PLUS and Poco phones created so much hype but I want to try other phones running Qualcomm chipset.
My budget is between $350 - $500.
I'll still be using this phone till developers continue their support even if I get a new phone.
Your valuable opinion will be highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Confused with poco or one plus. One plus refresh their phone after ever six months and it becomes outdated quickly. Poco on the other hand is likely to release new phone this year anytime soon so If I am to go for Poco I think I should wait for the new update.
I wonder if there is any phone releasing flagship Qualcomm chipset in my budget this year ?.
Anyway, Thank you very much for recommending me.

I used my friend's One plus 6T for a month and it buttery smooth but I just hate their way of refreshing phone after six months. Any other recommendation?

I do agree on that.. however as of now I feel sd 845 is pretty good for next 2 years .. 855 would be too expensive with op as well.. rumors are quoting upwards of $600.. unless poco comes out with 855.. if you are ok to wait for that then go for 855.. otherwise 845 is the best as of now market..
Poco is with lcd where as op is with amoled meaning superior display .. poco has liquid cooling meaning less heat. Choose what goes for u
