Google Play services hogging all ram. - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Questions & Answers

I am using 2gb ram version. I have hard time keeping even 2 moderately heavy apps running together. Also play services using lotsa ram. I am using arvanasoft stock rom andro 6 miui 10 and have also debloated my phone with this Szaki /XiaomiADBFastbootTools .
Cannot afford new phone for at least 3 to 4 months. Please suggest any workaround or any stock or modified miui rom that will give me the most free ram.

could be then problem with my device, as I have tried installing fresh rom several times. Apps keep reloading in background.
I play pokemon go and also use twitter for community tweets but as soon as I switch to one the other reloads.

It could be because of MIUI's way too aggressive killing of background apps. RAM management is quite poor.
Also MIUI exaggerates the amount of free RAM by including the cached amount as well. Lightweight ROMs like LOS in conjunction with microG are well suited to the 2GB variant.

Official LOS 16 based on Android Pie. https://download.lineageos.org/land
Very little customization as is usual with Lineage OS but RAM management and battery backup is very good. Flash lightweight GApps like BitGApps. For microG use the Nanodroid package or minmicrog Magisk module.

50Mb RAM? Is this a problem?

I only have 50Mb of RAM, running stock Google ROM with Google Update.
I don't have a huge amount of apps, maybe 35...
Is this a problem?
What is the best way for me to get more free RAM?
I don't want to wipe if possible...
No, its not a problem, nor is 20MB free, etc. Android free's memory as needed by closing app's on its own. More memory will be had with kernel 2.6.32 when highmem for arm support is added. This may or may not change the amount of free ram, depending on how many apps are loaded to your phone, as its again, dynamic.
I had down to 20 mb of ram and the phone was very laggy those time. Had to restart it and everything was normal again.
What do you recommend for not having those kind of situations?
One option is to install a custom ROM
Second one is to use a task killer everytime.
If you want to unlock your Bootloader (void warranty) then go for Cyanogens MOD, aotherwise install something like App Manager.

I'm almost always operating at 20mb free without issue, I've even seen 5mb free, and still no issue. Its not windows xp, you don't need all kinds of crazy free memory to operate.
Personally I don't think Google will really have an issue with you unlocking the bootloader. Generally they seem to want people to play with it.
Flash one of Modaco's custom ROM's which has Himem and you'll have 160-230meg of RAM spare all the time. Blazing fast!

It's not Google one has to be concerned with. Perhaps the OP isn't interested in voiding their warranty quite yet, or ever.
Personally, I could never go back to the stock image but those on this site who are all about cutting edge are not the target audience I'm afraid

S4 stock vs Pure Android - RAM Available??

Hey
As most people probably know there's not much RAM available on Samsung stock Rom. About 600-700MB of 2GB
But how much available RAM is there with Pure Android (Google Edition) or Cyanogenmod Rom?

It varies, depending on the apps and services installed, etc. but I've noticed that I tend to have about half the total memory free at any given time, so around 1GB.

The thing is that stock ROMs have services that cannot be killed that CM/AOSP do not have running, and they all suck up memory, and when you install user apps, they often carry background services that increase RAM usage.

CM is just a slightly leaner, but it's about the same. The most bloated, of course, is TW.
TW starts with 1G left ,and soon goes to 600mb left .After serveral app opened, it left only 200mb for me.
Aosp (slimbean in my case) start at 1.3GB left!!and sonn goes to 1G left, stable at 600mb left no matter how much app i open.
GE is almost same as aosp but with lower available at start up.

Because Samsung's TouchWiz software is so bloated with "features" almost nobody uses that it hogs up nearly all the memory on your device.
Too many features brings too much occupied ram to preserve them ready to be used ... atm i believe even 600mb of free ram is enough for anything to run ... the only time i came across ram shortages(in TW) it was when i was testing it's limits opened multiwindow chrome and opening about 4 pretty heavy desktop sites on it ... and that was before got updated because back then it used to get unreasonably bloated at times(at least on my device) ...
Anyway in normal usage that's not gonna happen ... so i believe ram is enough atm and there is no point on asking for more ...

Need ROM Suggestion for Xiaomi Redmi2/ Wingtech Redmi2/ wt88047/ HM2014811-8 ...

This post was created keeping in mind that no Ideal ROM exists for Redmi 2.
Hello Everyone,
I am in a desperate need of a custom ROM for Redmi 2 (1GB variant) that has the following features:
1. I need an android upgrade from Kitkat, even Lollipop will be fine cuz few Apps now partially does not works on my device.
2. I don't need another Heater for my home.
3. I don't want my battery level to go to zero from 50% just in two consecutive unlocks.
4. I don't want any App FCs especially for Apps like Clash Royale, Screen Recorders.
5. Little lags will be fine but not like MIUI Lollipop.
6. No WIFI disconnect Issues.
7. No Aggressive GApps, MIUI like GApp optimization.
8. Even a featureless ROM like AOSP will be fine.
And also tell me about the Kernel and other tweaks you all are using along with it.
EDIT: What I was looking for - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74780443&postcount=13

1. Enable USB debugging
2. Flash twrp via fastboot
3. Pick a rom from the development section.
Pretty much all 7.1.2 roms are rock solid.
DotOS is a new one so you may wish to avoid it if you're not willing to try for yourself.
You could start with LineageOS. I personally flashed ViperOS 3.1.1 on a 1GB variant with OpenGapps Pico package and it works very well.
I don't see much kernel related stuff around here, though...

I have already tried LineageOS and ViperOS..
I flashed it with the mentioned process, I don't know what went wrong, but my device overheats a lot..
And then there is battery drain even when my device is in idle state.
Battery Life was just 2-3 hours, but in MIUI in 12 hours, it just reached to 50%.
Google Play Services are very aggressive all the time.

This is not normal. Not for a somewhat healthy battery, at least. As I said, I've flashed ViperOS on a 1GB variant and I'm positive I would've heard a complaint if battery life was unacceptable.
If you meant SOT was 2-3 hours, that's another story.

When I was on AEX Rom, overheating issue was not there, but App FC problem was there.
Battery's temperature was around 42 - 45 C on all LOS based ROMs even in the idle state whereas in MIUI it's just about 30 C.

I still can't see how a custom rom(even though a Nougat one) can drain the battery in 3 hours. Based on what you showed me so far, I can't say anything. I know you said google services are aggressive, but I don't know what that means(I don't know YOUR definition of "aggressive" ).
Facebook and Facebook Messenger are notorious for their battery hogging. Use the Lite versions. Both are available on play store.

@Vikhyat01 Do u have any suggestions for me?
Viper OS is no doubt the best custom ROM for our device.
I suggest you to do a clean flash of Viper OS with stock kernel, pico GApps , magisk and Greenify4Magisk.
And for me the battery drain is almost equal to MIUI .
1gb 2014818 Same Here.
Stick with Miui KitKat (only rom stable and good)
Custom roma sucks on our 1gb ram ddr2.
Miui Tweaks -
1) turn off all animation's
2)Miui optimization (Turn Off) Multitasking is possible.
3)Use Greenify with plugin turned on in xposed framework , to close apps quickly.
4)Optional- uninstall system apps like live wallpaper , mi drop, mi account , mail, etc.
Clash Royale Consumes at least 500mb ram.
I face fc while dual battling with too many troops on screen(major problem).
COC with Poweramp Music players works ok.
I keep default chrome, google keyboard(less ram consume) which comes with miui 7.
I dont waste time flashing new roms for the device coz after 5 to 10 days of use i miss miui camera and audio output and revert back to miui kk. As it is quick in opening apps and working.
My Rom - Miui Global 7.5.3.0 (Miui 7)
And custom kernel which i tweaked myself to fix multi task problem while switching coc account "i get fc "
If u want the kernel i will provide u the link. Its stock kernel , just fixed background freeze.
Thats according to my experience since 3 years.

This is really working, make back up and try it just for once,
BTW, haven't faced App FC in This ROM.
Check the screenshots:
450mb free RAM + in 14 hrs battery drain was 48% to 2%.
Also, you can get MiA1 ported camera.

Best Rom for 2GB Ram Variance

My Device has only 2gb ram, some rom is fast but with bugs, some rom are almost bugless but slow. Please refer me some rom which are smooth in 2gb ram and almost bug free.
I use official LineageOS 15.1. It's bugfree for me, and for multitasking I did some changes in Kernel Adiutor:
increase Z-RAM size to 770 MB (because the stock size in MIUI is 768 MB)
disable adaptive low memory killer
set swappiness to 60
This way multitasking is perfect, I don't experience any reloads at all, there aren't any slow-downs, and the phone runs smooth.
Pie roms don't run smoothly in 2gb ram.
I tried a couple of Oreo roms but they didn't worked smoothly other than Lineage 15.1.
Los 15.1 is the best one for 2gb ram varient.

Running smooth till now. Didn’t do any heavy task. You can ask me to test if there is something particular way to load.
Bug: Found one till now. When switch from WiFi to cellular data. Cellular data doesn’t connect to internet. Need to restart or turn on then off airplane mode. Then it works.
I just want to know how does it run while normal tasks? Like streaming Youtube and heavy usages of social media.
Even I will try it after you say so.

Google Camera on 2GB potter?

I have been spending some time installing different ROMs in this 2GB phone, model XT1687.
Carbon and PE both installed well, but even the PE did not come with Google Camera preinstalled, instead having the Linage "snap" camera.
I installed many custom GCam apps but they would all crash about 1/2 the time when taking a photo. Reading up on it, seems like a memory issue with the OS stopping the app. I noticed that these Android 10 ROMs would show 200-400 MB free RAM after a clean install.
So I tried LineageOS 15.1 Oreo and it had like 900MB free RAM after a clean install, camera2 API was enabled, so I installed:
MGC_6.1.021_Potter_v5F-san1ty.apk but that refused to open
MGC_6.1.021_Potter_v6-san1ty.apk - success! but still crashed occasionally, especially when taking video or trying things like Night Sight.
Am I simply out of luck with this model of phone? Has anyone gotten this phone to work with Google Camera? Should I revert to the 32 bit stock Oreo and try an old GCam port for 32 bit? Or just stick with the Snap app?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Am I simply out of luck with this model of phone? Has anyone gotten this phone to work with Google Camera? Should I revert to the 32 bit stock Oreo and try an old GCam port for 32 bit? Or just stick with the Snap app?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi, you can join Moto G5Plus Camera Dump Telegram Channel
and look for CameraGO_HDR-2.apk
it's a lite version for 2GB variant but HDR works fine.
or you can try this for more features

good luck :good:
I ended up sticking with Dirty Unicorns Android 10, and downloading the Open Camera app. The Camera Go HDR 2 app did work too! So thanks for that.
Pretty satisfied with DU otherwise, almost no apps installed by default, BYO camera, calendar, email, etc.

Hello Mark!
I also have a 2Gb RAM Potter (XT1681), and looking to squeeze some more performance out of it. Still on stock, never had the courage to dive into custom yet. Would you say you get better, worse or equal performance with DU vs Stock on your 2gb device?
And can you think of any issues whatsoever? (Wifi, Camera, Bluetooth, etc)?
Thank you very much for any input on this matter!

Not recommended. DU is great in terms of being bloat free, but Android 10 seems to have too much memory usage and applications just get terminated randomly including the aforementioned camera.
I have not yet tried the recommended kernel above, I will try it shortly and report back.

I see... Will have to stick to Android 9 then. Please let me know what you end up sticking with on your 2GB RAM device. Thank you very much!
