Okay, so I rooted my kindle fire with no problem and I got "Android Market" installed but it is an older version that looks kind of funny and it is not letting me install any of my apps (or any apps from the store). I want the newest one because I have two different Google Accounts with different purchased apps on them. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Where did you download the Android Market?
Check what version your Android Market is:
1. Go to Settings-->Applications-->Third Party Applications
2. Scroll down and select "Market"
The version should be 3.3.11

Also note that there seems to be a filter on the market that doesn't allow all applications to be downloaded on the Fire
You can sideload those apps though, as long as they are compatible with the Kindle Fire

Vending.apk is the problem. All the tutorials had that as the app to use. For me, it was never starting any downloads and yes it was the old market version.
Try com.amarket.apk from the gapps.zip, that worked for me first try.
Use the vending.apk on this post. It is the one that got market fully functional for me.

How did you install?
I installed vending.apk, got same starting download issue. I copied the gapps market apk to sys, chmod to 644 and tried to install. Starts install and then just says Application Not Installed.

This is a good choice. I was using it for a bit on my HTC flyer before I rooted and installed on my Fire.

Thanks a lot
That fixed it!
Is it possible to get the dolphin browser downloaded onto the kindle fire, because it does not show up in the google play market. and when i followed the link on the site to the google play market it says my device is incompatible. is there a way to trick it into letting me download it or anything?
I have Dophin HD running on my rooted KF. I just copied the APK file over from my Tbolt and then installed it.
I have it on mine as well (on cm9 reloaded rom).

The kindle fire 2 is not the same as the kfhd. So you tried to install a ROM on the HD that is not meant for it. Visit this link to get the help you need.

Just an FYI, the latest Google Play Services update to version 4.0.34 (924341-36) seems to have fixed issues with dependent apps. All is working well for me again, as of this update, which is available in the Play Store.

Not applicable to 4.5.3; ignore.
Updated to the most recent and I'm still getting constant force closes (though my most recent google play services is 7.3, am I missing something obvious?)
No, I was playing too. With no positive results. I think the op found a different old version.

U can use Titanium backup to freeze Google Play Service. I'm using 7.0.99 and freeze it. It will block auto update Google play service.

I am on a rooted 4.5.2 Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 using the above referenced 380 DPI version of Play Services, downloaded directly from the play store with the latest Play Store version & it is working fine for me. Definitely not an older version I stumbled upon, unless Google is specifically pushing older app updates directly to me.
It is also working for me with 7.3.29 (1866531-036), which should now again be the latest.
I tried to let it update on mine and it broke. Odd...
There are two differences between our devices. I am running 4.5.3 on Thor. I also used the universal gapps package.

Google Play Services 7.5.62
Google have released version 7.5.62 (1927436-034) which seems to have fixed the problems I was having with an experimental aosp kitkat build. For the Apollo device I downloaded it from here.

do you just install the apk as normal or is there a special procedure?
thanks
Downloaded and installed from the place recommended. I am rooted on 14.3.2.4 Apollo. Continuously says that Google Play services stopped working, etc. I did uninstall the old play services first before I installed this one. Any ideas how to get this to work?

I am still getting the crashes, too.

Happening on other devices too although problems do not appear to be as widespread as v7.3. Likely have to wait for another fix from google (sigh).
I'm running a rooted 14.3.2.6_user_326001820 (build date September 8, 2014) on my Fire HDX 8.9", and any version of Google Play Services 7.0.99 won't work. I tried the latest greatest (com.google.android.gms-7.5.71_(1955121-030)-7571030-minAPI9), as well as a 7.5.62 (com.google.android.gms-7.5.62_(1927436-034)-7562034-minAPI9), and they both give the dreaded "Google Play Services has stopped".
To the poster who successfully ran 7.5.62 - did you run it on stock FireOS, or on a different ROM?
Does this work on Saturn? I've rooted with Kingroot and disabled updates but cannot get gapps to work. Is there maybe an alternative download I should try? Minimal works for 2 minutes but then goes haywire...thanks

Just so you know Rob, I'm in the same boat as you and tried the same steps.

Thanks, Christopher. That's both comforting (I'm not alone, so I'm not crazy or [probably] doing anything wrong) and annoying (I really wish it worked!).
I found a bit of info on XDA but nothing worked that I've tried. I am getting a message on Google Playstore "Your device is not compatible" so I tried the apk route using apkmirror & 2 other similar tools but got a message saying parsing error.
Can anyone recommend something that might work for me? Most of the info I found on XDA was from very old posts (2016)
Thanks in advance for any help. By the way, the app I am trying to get on either Google Play or App Store (which Google Play installed fine using XDA's Fire Toolbox latest version). Also, the app is the blueletter bible which installs fine (app from Playstore) on my Fire 7" which I think is from 2019.
