Just got a new Tab from a carrier shop here in Kuwait with some, let's just say, undesirable applications preinstalled which I would like to get rid off. Read all (well most of the posts) but getting nowhere.
Upgraded to new firmware through KIES.
downloaded Z4ROOT and rooted succesfully (or at least that,s what the app is telling).
Tried to copy the nv_data.bin file to my sd card - cannot be done
Tried to open nv_data.bin in HEXEDITOR - no can do
Tried to delete application - nope
So some help is obviously needed here if anyone is kind.
Best regards
You did install busybox, did you?
Which firmware? Post what you are doing on the adb shell. Be specific or we can't help you.
You're right should be more specific.
Well I did not install busybox (no idea what it is for) and
Firmware version is 2.2
Baseband version P1000JXJK2
Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
Build No FROYO.JPJK2
Hope this clears it.

Busybox gives you most shell commands (including, but not limited to, cp).
Thanks.
Installed BUSYBOX and copied nv_data.bin file to sd card for modification as per How to carrier/SIM unlock the Galaxy Tab topic from 17/11 but the address 0x181469 could not be found.
Also tried to uninstall the preinstalled apps - no success
need z4 unroot it
busybox
root explorer
Z4 unroot, DONE
BUSYBOX installed DONE
ROOT EXPLORER installed DONE
So
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8942669&postcount=94
totaly worked for unlocking the SIM/carrier. Very easy and no problems encountered. Inserted a different SIM and made a call. Perfect. Thank you for all the work that made this possible.
However it still does not let me delete the APPs that came preinstalled with the Tab.
I am guessing this is something to do with the Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1. How can this be undone (another guess is flashing the ROM but i have no idea what it involves so back to the reading and learning)?
If somebody has a simple to follow guide and resolution to this please let me know the thread. Thanks
Have you mounted /system as r/w in Root Explorer?
Regards,
Dave
Dave, to advanced for me. How do i do that?
Just an update.
Managed to successfully flash the tab to the european version using guide from
[HOW-TO] Flash your at&t Tab to make calls + 1900+850 WCDMA - UPDATED
thank you it worked fine and i achieved what i was looking for: no more undesirable apps.
But, i lost the 3g and cannot get it back using the same guide as above.
With my limited knowledge of the whole thing I am guessing that this is to do with the modem.bin file. Will try to download an arabic version of firmware, extract it and try to use the modem file and see if it will work. will post an update just in case anybody is interested,
regards
I found it rather embarassing posting replys to my own thread all the time but I feel it might help somebody so what the hell!!
I finally got my 3G working on the Tab. A silly thing really: APN (Access Point Name) was deleted during flash and by adding and activating the APN i got my 3G restored.
Anyway, thank you guys for all the replies and help. Really good forum with a lot of useful stuff.

Hi guys
I hope somebody can help me with this wierd problem. When I flash a 6.0.1. ROM I have this bug where I get a fix for one secound and the next secound it loses it. When I go back to a 5.1 ROM this dosent happen. I've already tried most of the solutions out there and nothing seems to fix it. Since I use a GPS a lot I need it to be fully functional.
I made a video of it

Been trying for a couple of hours now, and have succeeded in creating an FTP server for my phone using this app, I got it set up the exact same way I did on my old phone and previous tablets and everything works properly, I'm able to fire up Cyberduck and access all the files the device, but for some reason I just can't transfer files. It just seems to get stuck on "Making directory [Directory Name]" and won't progress. Just wondering if anyone else has been able to get this to work, or if there are others facing the same issue as me?

In past i have used Es File Explorer FTP between J5 and Galaxy S Advance. I have used J5 make folders/move/copy on S Advance, it worked fine.
Friends, I searched on google and youtube for the solution, but I could not find one. My phone works fine on Oreo. But whenever I upgrade it to pie, i.e., from 340 to pie. I face the following errors
1. Mac Id is null and cannot connect to Wifi
2.Camera Torch does not work
3.Wifi Hotspot not working
4.Launcher is continuously crashing......
But I can make phone calls. I tried installing custom ROM on pie, and it does not have the problem, and the official oreo Rom also has no problem. If anyone knows the solution, kindly share.
For those who are interested, when I flash the cmd file, it shows Username.ini not found and skipping, also many other data partition files... so I don't know what to do.
Please tell me if you know how to fix this. And I also tried downloading the update file and placing it in internal storage but I got same result. Hope someone will help me
I've got a VS995 running LineageOS for MicroG and the GPS isn't working. I know it's not a hardware issue because the stock rom GPS works fine. Is there something I'm forgetting?
Edit: I've found a solution! It was here on this reddit thread.
A Tl;Dr of that thread:
Get a gps.conf file here
Use a root file explorer (I used MiXplorer)
Put gps.conf in root>system>etc
Restart your device
I put gps.conf in root>system>etc and root>system>etc>gps because I couldn't find a definitive answer on where to put it online. If the first method doesn't work, try making a gps folder.
I also backed up the reddit post, and the files on the wayback machine, just in case you're from the future, and these links are dead. Have a great day!
