[FIXED] GPS not working with LineageOS 18.1 VS995 - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I've got a VS995 running LineageOS for MicroG and the GPS isn't working. I know it's not a hardware issue because the stock rom GPS works fine. Is there something I'm forgetting?
Edit: I've found a solution! It was here on this reddit thread.
A Tl;Dr of that thread:
Get a gps.conf file here
Use a root file explorer (I used MiXplorer)
Put gps.conf in root>system>etc
Restart your device
I put gps.conf in root>system>etc and root>system>etc>gps because I couldn't find a definitive answer on where to put it online. If the first method doesn't work, try making a gps folder.
I also backed up the reddit post, and the files on the wayback machine, just in case you're from the future, and these links are dead. Have a great day!

Cannot Unlock new Tab

Just got a new Tab from a carrier shop here in Kuwait with some, let's just say, undesirable applications preinstalled which I would like to get rid off. Read all (well most of the posts) but getting nowhere.
Upgraded to new firmware through KIES.
downloaded Z4ROOT and rooted succesfully (or at least that,s what the app is telling).
Tried to copy the nv_data.bin file to my sd card - cannot be done
Tried to open nv_data.bin in HEXEDITOR - no can do
Tried to delete application - nope
So some help is obviously needed here if anyone is kind.
Best regards
You did install busybox, did you?
Which firmware? Post what you are doing on the adb shell. Be specific or we can't help you.
You're right should be more specific.
Well I did not install busybox (no idea what it is for) and
Firmware version is 2.2
Baseband version P1000JXJK2
Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
Build No FROYO.JPJK2
Hope this clears it.

Busybox gives you most shell commands (including, but not limited to, cp).
Thanks.
Installed BUSYBOX and copied nv_data.bin file to sd card for modification as per How to carrier/SIM unlock the Galaxy Tab topic from 17/11 but the address 0x181469 could not be found.
Also tried to uninstall the preinstalled apps - no success
need z4 unroot it
busybox
root explorer
Z4 unroot, DONE
BUSYBOX installed DONE
ROOT EXPLORER installed DONE
So
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8942669&postcount=94
totaly worked for unlocking the SIM/carrier. Very easy and no problems encountered. Inserted a different SIM and made a call. Perfect. Thank you for all the work that made this possible.
However it still does not let me delete the APPs that came preinstalled with the Tab.
I am guessing this is something to do with the Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1. How can this be undone (another guess is flashing the ROM but i have no idea what it involves so back to the reading and learning)?
If somebody has a simple to follow guide and resolution to this please let me know the thread. Thanks
Have you mounted /system as r/w in Root Explorer?
Regards,
Dave
Dave, to advanced for me. How do i do that?
Just an update.
Managed to successfully flash the tab to the european version using guide from
[HOW-TO] Flash your at&t Tab to make calls + 1900+850 WCDMA - UPDATED
thank you it worked fine and i achieved what i was looking for: no more undesirable apps.
But, i lost the 3g and cannot get it back using the same guide as above.
With my limited knowledge of the whole thing I am guessing that this is to do with the modem.bin file. Will try to download an arabic version of firmware, extract it and try to use the modem file and see if it will work. will post an update just in case anybody is interested,
regards
I found it rather embarassing posting replys to my own thread all the time but I feel it might help somebody so what the hell!!
I finally got my 3G working on the Tab. A silly thing really: APN (Access Point Name) was deleted during flash and by adding and activating the APN i got my 3G restored.
Anyway, thank you guys for all the replies and help. Really good forum with a lot of useful stuff.

[Think Tank] Fixing "Fix Permissions" in Froyo Builds

Ever since the first froyo rom until now (currently running Nero 4.1), Fix Permissions in Rom Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery has been rendered useless. It simply starts for a second then ends right after, and permissions remain unfixed. Is this a problem due to lack of source from samsung or is this a bug that has not been detected by devs, either way if its solvable I think its a minor bug that should have some attention and maybe a fix.
Thank You!
I thought I had read something about having the proper busybox installed, but I have changed mine and can't seem to get it to work ether. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled RM.
No need for a think tank. There is already a solution.
Apparently the script in Clockwork is looking for a file in the wrong place. You can change the script or you can copy and move the file it's looking for. Either one will work. I am unsure if Koush has been contacted about this issue.
Check out this thread. I use the solution in post #3 and it works fine.
Also, if you feel as though someone is being rude, just ignore it and report the post. The mods act quickly as soon as something is brought to their attention.
-thanks for your suggestion...worked great.

I'm trying to follow these directions... but I'm not sure where to get the packages.xml file.
Can someone please show me?
jnagar said:
Thank you--if it helps, I simply copied the packages.xml file into /data/system/ in order to run fix_permissions, and then just deleted the .xml file.
A temporary fix, yes, but I was just trying to fix a specific problem with ending phone calls causing an FC (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9943863#post9943863).

rogue sound files
I wonder if permissions will fix the rogue sound files in my player?
Does anyone know if the fix permissions issue is limited to Rom Manager or if all other applications doing the same thing are affected? I tried using the "Root Tools" app to fix permissions, but it looks to be doing the same thing that occurs in rom manager.

[Q] GPS gingerbread on HD2

Hi guys, bit of a newbie here.
Ive seen on the site abut getting gps to work on this version and followed instructions but nothing seems to work.
It got me thinking... would an external Bluetooth GPS work instead? Just as a bit of a work around?
Many thanks for your help here

The OP may also want to check the gps.conf file to determine if it is optimized for the region. Check this thread out as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630
I am using Tytung's Gingerbread 2.3.5 Nexus HD2 v2.9 build with both the GPS v2.0 and an optimized gps.conf file on my phone. First locks are under 10 seconds and relocks are almost immediate using the built-in Google Navigation on the phone. Without the optimized gps.conf file, first lock was around 20 seconds. Tytung's ROM is set up for the North America. If you are not in North America, then you will need to change the gps.conf file to match your region.
The build-in gps must work, but a bluetooth gps will work to.

GPS problem
Hey guys I don't want to open a new thread, so I'll just post here...
I have the same GPS problems as most people here – GPS Status and GPS Essentials are showing no satellites, 0 visible and 0 used for fix.
I’ve left the phone to search for 10min in couple of occasions and nothing.
I think I’ve tried about everything here to fix it (and this is begging to bug me majorly)...
Updated the libraries with v2.0 RPC tytungs update (before that I’ve used the AngleDeath Europe.zip patch)…
Then edited the gps.conf file
first added the eurpe.pool.ntp.org,
then tried following lines
0.europe.pool.ntp.org;
1.europe.pool.ntp.org;
…etc.
Event tried the (my) country specific server address (pulled it of from the NTP POOL PROJECT website)
rs.pool.ntp.org
Installed the xtra.bin injector
Tried it on a perfect summer day and/or night, with 3g and WIFI on… but no results…
I’m running
CyanogenMod-7-NIGHTLY-Desire[TyphooN_V3.5.7-MAGLDR]
Tytungs r11_beta2 kernel (the lock screen lag fix)
CW 3.1.0.0
Radio Leo 2.15.50.14
Any ideas?
hi, this is what ive used but i must be doing something wrong and dont understand what im doing with the files etc
Im using MDJ_GingerBread_HD2_v.1.0_RC4_RAM_MODDED SC Card version
does that make any difference?
Is anyone with this problem using one of the latest roms with agps support? I can lock on in about 20 seconds from a restart. Also is everyone on the latest magldr?
never had any problems using MDJ Gingerbread... no editing or anything else - it works perfect right from the get-go...

I think the problem is that on your build they recommend using Tytung's NMEA and not the RPC file that you tried. Try loading v2.0 NMEA by Tytung and give it a try. On some of these builds, only one of these files will work. I suspect your build is one that will need only the NMEA file to make the GPS work properly.

Yeha, I’ve noticed a after my post here that in the “update” list of the TyphooN ROM is stated that the NMEA lib is implemented in it… anyhow, re-loaded the NMEA lib… edited the .conf file again… rebooted… injected the xtra.bin … left the phone outside for like 5min to try to find any satellites… 0 hits :/
Man, this is frustrating… I would hate to have to change or re-flash the rom, I’m quite satisfied with this one… maybe I’ll switch to iOS XD

With all the changes that you did, you may have no choice but to reflash the ROM again. Then only change the gps.conf files to your region after the reflash if it is not correct for your area. Then hopefully your GPS will be working again. If after all that, and it still doesn't work, you may have to look in the GPS antenna to see if it is working.

I've flashed my phone (yet again) the newest build of the TyphooN ROM... edited the .conf file, AND... nothing :| maybe I wrote the conf file in a wrong way... should it look like this?
i54.tinypic. com/11qgv8h.png (c/p the link for a screenshot of the conf file - I still cant post outside links)
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, I can't see the link. Maybe you should try the quick and easy way to change your region by using FasterFix that is free on the Market. At least it will quickly change your first gps.conf file line to the correct region and hopefully get you a gps lock. I suspect that the gps.conf file you are changing may not be correct or possibly the changes you are making are not being taken and the original gps.conf file keeps staying? I don't think it is the build. I've used TyphooN in the past with my custom gps.conf file that I use with no problem.

[Flash] Hero to Boost!

Before I begin, let me give a thanks to Leviuqse for posting how to get your Data/3G working universally, not just on the Epic.
Also, to whomever posted the original MEID/pESN locations on Mobile-Files!
Okay so there was a How-To on Mobile-Files, but it was erased because the site is down indefinitely.
BUT! I have found a ZIP file containing the original posting with all of the MEID locations!
I will attach it to this posting for further reference(s).
I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IN THIS... If you damage your phone in any way, that is on you, not me. I will help with problems all that I can though!
Also, I AM NOT THE OWNER OF THIS STEP-BY-STEP, all ownership is in the text files located in the ZIP, also mentioned above.
You need to downgrade your RADIO/HBoot using the RUU which I will also include in this file. When you update it to a newer version/custom ROM the settings/configuration should stick.
But if not you can always re-downgrade to 1.56(Radio). The RUU is 1.29.651.1, which is also very hard to find.
I have successfully flashed 2 Hero's with this guide before.
Also I will include a link to use for retrieving your HA/AAA Secret Keys, which will be needed for your 3G/MMS/Data.
Also, I know that it is for the Epic, but since you will be reading from the Incognito, and entering on QPST, it works fine.
