Hello,
YES!, YES!, I know I'm noob....my first post yeah...OK to the question, when I take pictures using my HD2, and send them to my computer, the pictures don't like as neat and high def as the samples on the phone. I was just wondering if there is way to make it at least a bit more crisp and decent looking than the poor quality and blurness that i get now. The resolution is set to the highest..contrast normal, etc..ANY TIPS...Thank you...
get your hands on BsB Tweaks. Simple .cab install. It has a few options for 'hidden' settings for the camera and camcorder.
I'll do thanks...will that me it sharper??
Honestly I've not done a lot of comparisons, but it does add a SUPERFINE option to the camera, so that has to be worth something!
Finehood, what's the highest resolution setting you see in your camera menu? There should be a 5MP (2592x1552) setting available on there...it's on the second page of resolution options so make sure you didn't miss that.
If you don't see it there, then the BsB option jimbonics mentioned will add that in addition to the "superfine" mode. It also adds a couple of other modes you might like, so it's worth checking out. If you can't or won't use BsB, then they're available as just a regular cab too.
thanks...guys..
thank you guys....and yes I do have it in 5mp, but still the quality looks awful, but I'll be getting the bsb tweak...that sounds like it might fix my problems..any other suggestion is welcome!!!!THANK YOU

(the last one on that list is what we've already suggested above)
thanks again...
good tips...I'll keep you guys post it if it gets better!!
Are you having a lot of noise problems ? Unfortunately that's not going to go away. If you're expecting some quality pictures like what a real camera would take you'll be quite disappointed . I've tried tweaking it myself left and right and every which way possible. I've seen some sample pictures from the EVO and even with it's 8MP cam it does not look a whole lot better.
good to know..
actually, u know what..i kind of knew that it would never be close to a regular picture cam, but with the high megapixels at least i was expecting something decent...but thank you...I did the bsb tweaks and got a bit better...the hidden tricks are all right...thanks everyone..
the fact is HD2 cam is poorer than HD's. I have both devices, HD in default (auto) settings takes very well pix, and HD2 (even after tweaks) takes puctures "ugly". The overall temperature of the shot is in grey tones domination, while HD take very realistic, closer to simple digicams. If anybody has an answers, please comment. Would be great if we will be able to take pix even just HD does.
When you take a picture and look at it from your computer is the size of the picture the same as the HD2's screen?
I'll usually just right click on the picture and send it to paint, click on image, then stretch/skew function. I'll reduce it to at least 50% / 50% and work my way down from there. That usually increases the image quality for me. I don't need a picture the size of three of my computer screens. Hope it helps.
When in doubt my friend photoshop is your friend
right...
photoshop will do the fixing for us....jiji...but like i said before i was just wondering if there was a way to make it better...like a tweak or a .cab, etc. bsb is not bad, but it doen't make the image any better in quality...but good tweak really good tweaks..

What we have here folks is a hardware problem not a software problem. Well actually a little bit of both . All the software tweaks out there does help a bit compared to the stock camera but that's as far as your going to get. Software can only do so much and there isn't a magical software solution when you are coupled with a lousy quality camera lens. The fact is HTC has probably cheapened out the quality of the camera lens compared to earlier phones but regardless the HD2 is a phone first not a camera. Short of replacing the whole lens there's very little software can do when the hardware isn't up to par.
I've had my HD2 since June 30th and believe me this thing takes MUCH BETTER pics than my Blackberry Bold 9700 did at 3.2MP and that phone took some really nice pictures.
I think it depends on the environment your in at the time. I took a few close up pics of my Wife and kids and those images came out beautiful. I also took some scenery shots in landscape and those images came out awsome as well. I took some pics inside the Tennessee Aquarium and had mixed results. As long as the lighting was good the images came out great. In darker settings the images were not as sharp.
I do use BsB Tweeks and I also have my resolution set to 5MP. I'm not sure why your camera is producing such awful images but I'm very pleased with mine.

Is it awful? He never posted any samples of his pictures. Are you really pleased because I'm not. How good the pictures actually look to an individual are highly subjective. I would hardly consider the pictures I've taken pleasing but I'm just going to have to settle.
I think the problem here is that finehood is really picky and had high expectations. I'm assuming what he had in mind were quality pictures closer to that of a real camera.
Sounds like user error to me. Try wiping your lens before taking pics. . My HD2 takes great pics.
Pop...
Take a picture at max resolution. Then copy that picture over to your pc. View that picture at 100%. You'll see it looks like ass.
hey guys...
i was reading some of the posts, and it makes sense, believe me I never got the wild idea of a phone cam being equal or better quality than a normal cam... but even with the 5 mp and the tweaks and considering light issues or environment surrounding your pics is not even close to a decent quality that's all I'm saying, the pictures look BEAUTIFUL on your phone, really neat and crisp, once you transfer your pics to a computer and see it in full scale you'll know what I'm talking about...blurriness, blur edges, sometimes pixelete images mainly in the face, I'm happy with the phone....and all it does, but I WAS JUST WONDERING if there was a way to make it a bit better...BSB Tweaks did some adjustments...thanks for the feedback guys, I'll be posting some pics shortly..so you guys get the idea....
Hey everybody!
I hope you guys are enjoying your Omnias. I'm thinking about getting one, but I already have a Galaxy S and am suffering the dreaded SAMOLED Pentile issue. That is, that the screen Samsung uses has a lower pixel count than standard LCD screens. On Android this is pretty awful and makes text look fuzzy at small sizes.
Now, I'd like to see how WP7 looks on the screen, especially since everyone is raving about how awesome it looks. It might be that Samsung has tweaked the display so that it looks better.
So, my request is close-up pictures of the display while it's on. Showing websites (zoomed out), pictures and the main menu. Preferrably taken with a camera that supports "macro mode" so that we can clearly see how sharp (or not) the display actually looks. I'd love to see it in person, but apparently the phone hasn't arrived in Spain yet.
I'd really appreciate this, so thanks in advance to anyone that goes ahead with my request!

These reviews by GSMArena and PhoneArena should give you an idea, and has some close shots. While zoomed out webpages does look pixelated, the contrast and colours of the Omnia 7 is just stunning. I personally just zoom abit if it gets pixelated, plus I dont like reading text thats too small anyway.

Hello,
If you still need I may try to take some photos of it this weekend...
I used to have HTC Diamond (2 devices : touch and Pro), then I get an iPhone 4, and now the omnia7 : the screen is really really better on the Omnia, I was very impressed by the quality of it (video playback is very nice, pictures too, websites are ok)

I would really appreciate it if you would I have seen the online reviews but none of them have pics of enough quality for me to see how text is rendered on the screen.
I really hate how pixelated everything looks on the Galaxy S. As soon as I get close to the screen it's like I'm looking through a net. The screen on the Omnia is the same, but if Microsoft has better font rendering it might be less noticeable.
Thanks!
No way to overpass a hardware limitation with any software. If you found very small text being difficult to read on your Galaxy S, it would be the same on Omnia 7. However, in contrast to Android, Windows Phone 7 is designed with the AMOLED tech in mind. All text in the default UI are big enough (even too big for some tastes ) avoiding described flaw being noticeable. Still in the browser or bad compound third party apps with too small fonts it would be the same as Galaxy S.
Btw, IMHO this is no issue. I don’t like to torture myself by reading so small texts on an already small phone screen anyway, so just zoom in is used here .
Well - on the "no fix in software is possible" - not quite. Microsoft ClearType is used on RGB LCDs to make text look smoother by changing the color of pixels based on the known layout of the colored subpixel-elements.
The problem with the AMOLED Screens seems to be that they don't have red and blue in every pixel (only green). Perhaps using clever software it would be possible to avoid fuzzy rendering of text and Microsoft developed WP7 with AMOLED screens in mind.
So it would be possible but I guess there are no optimizations of that kind. I had no problems with my Omnia 7 up to now so I'd just say it's not that big of a deal.
I just have swapped from Galaxy to Omnia and the I do like the display I have no problem reading large or small fonts between the 2. I have not had a sunny day yet to test this but I found on the Galaxy that the auto brightness always had a little lag I would always need to remove my sunnies for a couple of seconds to see what I was doing then the phone would kick in and I could put them on. The Omnia on black background is really designed for reading text large or small.
Hi, I've taken you some pics, but the "attach too" limits the size of an attachment. I can email them to you or if you have a minute to suggest a better way to upload them I'll be happy to give it a shot.
Cheers

Thanks! I actually forgot to update the thread. I have finally bought an Omnia for myself, decided to take the risk So I no longer need the pics.
It is true, it is the same screen as on the Galaxy S and the dreaded pentile is there. However, due to the metro UI it bothers me a lot less and it does make everything pop out more and seem very attractive.
WP7 renders fonts better than android so browsing is a lot easier on the Omnia's screen than it was on the Galaxy. Overall I'm really happy with the device and I like it a lot more than I like the Galaxy.
Hey guys I've just got my Galaxy S2. Everything was fine at first until I discovered the annoying screen defects it has. First the yellow tint then the color banding(16-bit). Eh no problem but still now when I try to set a wallpaper it looks terribly low ress and the colors seemed to be banded. I must tell you the same wallpapers seen in gallery are full res and don't seem to suffer from banding.
The question now is can this be fixed?(Like software fix, DoA is over).KE7 kernel 2.3.3.
Thanks in advance
get wallpaper set and save from the market as a workaround
Oh mate I can't thank you enough for that... I am a big noob. Thanks it works!
Hi All,
I posted in the Vegacomb thread about this issue but didn't got any replies, so I thought to create a seperate post and hoping for some feedback.
I am using Vegacomb 8.1 on my vega clone and I love it. However I have noticed an issue with the color and video rendering in apps and specially videos.
To me the issue is more like when in older generation computers you would choose lower bit color settings and could see lack of smoothness in colors.
I took this screenshot from youtube video which is 720P and as you can see there are color distortions which can be seen easily :
here is the link http://flickr.com/gp/[email protected]/B2026m
Would you please tell me if this is normal or there are settings which can be modified to improve the quality ? Something to do with hardware acceleration?
Many thanks

I've noticed this, gradient look bad in apps too.
My Amiga had better colour depth
I am glad that this is not just me
Does anyone have any ideas what can cause this ? ANd how it can be resolved/improved?
Hi.
Since many of us have some difficult to take some good quality photos please share your experience with your phone. You can upload photos and wrote about which options you chosen.
I'll share mine when i have time...
Cheers.
The camera quality depends on the ROM also, i think
IMO, Aurora v4 has a good camera even if in the low-light condition, but the shutter speed is not faster than v5.
You can't be serious.
You can do better photos and videos videos with official 2.2 (Froyo) than with Aurora, and I'm not being sarcastic. Its the honest truth. Test it! I did!
For me this is a key point when chosing a rom as I often need to take photos and videos with some quality.
I rather have batery drains, low speed etc etc but have good quality photos and videos and Aurora is a complete disgrace in this field.
At the moment theres no better and stable than MIUI V4.
Good quality photo, specially outside that are just excellent and great 720p videos, without being blury, pixelized and without FREEZES!
If you want good quality cam, then MIUI V4 is the best choice so far this is not questionable.
Some might say the libs from MIUI are the same from Aurora etc etc. This is just Bla bla bla from people that didn't even tested nor compared both, because if they did they would see differences, Huge differences

No, exactly the same !!!
Tell me what's version of MIUI v4 you were mentioned !
my version of MIUI V4 PT 2.12.21
test it and put here the photos taken with the diferent roms
I want to see if they are exactly the same....
Did anyone change camera options? Specifically these ones: "Sharpness" and "Focus mode".
Off course.
But photos are just not vivid. Something is not right there

Ok keep the bicycle
Today I went to the park with the kids and took 2 backups with me, one for Aurora and one for Miui.
I have made a lot o photos with both roms testing lots of settings and 3 cam apps (native, cam360 and huawei cam).
Miui took beautiful and vivid photos while photos with Aurora where very clear look like the sun was immediately in front.
But one significant detail was, my son had a white hat and with Aurora the hat got a bluish tone looking like it's getting extreme white balance. If you understand about photos more white balancing the bluish the photo becomes.
Even reducing the white balancing the photos gets very dark.
Clear conclusion that is the libs are the same something is influencing a lot the quality of Aurora photos and it's a pleasure watch the outdoor photos and videos made with miui

Taken with the exact same specs.
Se the vivid and REAL colours of MIUI photos and see the extreme exposure + more dark colours of Aurora.
See the hat of the kid...
If you can't see the differences don't know what more can I do.
We can't contest true facts friend.
Now, I do believe that libs from MIUI are the same as Aurora but why the 8 to 80 difference?
Wow, love the kute baby
The exposure value seems to be changed by the light direction of your position. I'm not a photographer, just it's my experience.
Camera lib in aurora v5 seems to has some problem i thinks, it isn't good at the exposure capture (in auto mode), sometime it becomes crazy @@. And in this case, camera lib in Aurora v4 has done perfectly. I don't know dzo he has noticed about that or not, but i don't want to push him, he has alot work for other things. No big deal, it's enough for our phone.
And one more time, IMO, nothing difference bettwen Aurora vs MIUI v4 about camera libs.
O.M.G.......
Too much bright on Aurora photo you can see in park bench wood isn't brown. In MIUI photos have real color. Quality is same or both just some config on how camera holds contrast and brightness better on MIUI.
But MIUI v4 use libs from Aurora version 4 or 5?
not just the bench, see the baby hat is kinda blue tone....
these were photos taken with EXACT SAME SPECS with both rooms.
If you reduce brightness on Aurora than the Photos start to get very dark.
I have made all the possible combinations and just cant get the same output as MIUI.
So you can have na Idea, I have 2 batteries and I depleted both in aprox 2hours reboots, restire downlodas, vídeos, photos etc etc...
something is messing the photo output of Aurora and this what makes me completly crazy for not being able to use the rom.

Yes! The hat is some blue lines
I love to test MIUI but unfortunately i don't have my phone is in service. And i think your MIUI V4 doesn't work on my u8800 because of atmel has i previous tried.
Hope dzo read this thread and do something changes on his rom.
Just flash normal Miui v4, from Miui PT for example. That will work in your device.
Mine won't work because the changes I have made mess with atmel screens
This morning I printed the media_profiles.xlm file, located in
/system/etc of both roms and confirm many differences between them.
Then I restore a Aurora backup and replaced this file with Miui and rebooted.
Made no difference at all and photo still come out extra white making it bluish looking.
Tried to decrease the white balance by -1 point and increase the saturation but the photos are bad the same way.
I do notice one thing intriguing. I would like you to test it to.
You need to pay attention to this, In Aurora note than when execute the cam app, immediately it starts the image is great but suddenly changes to that extra white and bluish tone. This happens on starting the app and in a fraction of a second. You need to pay attention!
I'm 99% sure that some setting in the system gets affected resulting in this change, and here lies the issue.
This doesn't happen in Miui.
I honestly think this is it, and worth looking after it specially if something can be done to correct this behaviour.
If the system gets changed this way, something acts different between these roms, causing conflict without causing error on Aurora.
Imagine this situation, look like each Rom uses a different colour pallet and colour spectrum, obviously resulting in photos with different colour schemes. Understand what I mean!
This is it for sure!!
Can you guys check these situations and can the devs look to please. Aurora could be even better!

Hi,
I think Aurora v5 has the problem with the Exposure value (Iso:Auto and Scene Mode: Auto).
Did you check this in Aurora version 4 ?
Thanks for you post.
