Selling my ROG Phone 1 for OP 7T Pro (McLaren) - OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Questions & Answers

Hi everybody,
what do you think is this a real upgrade ?
I'm about buying a OP 7T Pro on eBay, read a lot of threads about WLAN and Bluetooth probs. ....
So wondering if this device is as good as everybody says?

I didn't experience any WLAN and Bluetooth problems, but since you are probably referring to the T-Mobile, I can't answer to that, as I have the Chinese non-5G variant of the 7T Pro McLaren Edition.
About whether buying it or not, I would suggest that you might want to wait for the OnePlus 8 (and 8 Pro) release so that you can get your hands on the latest Snapdragon SoC, along with that long-anticipated stunning 1440p 120Hz screens from Samsung (which are yet to be confirmed if they are compatible of displaying at 1440p and 120Hz at the same time without ditching one another) hardware accelerated real-time motion interpolation for watching videos, so that every youtube videos you watch can be upscaled to 120Hz for ultra smoothness). For now, search up for reviews about Samsung's S20 series. I believe the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro would be quite similar to Samsung S20 and S20+ respectively, except for having lower price tags (of course), better front camera (since Samsung nerfed the S20 and S20+ front camera, so that more people may buy the S20 Ultra), considerably worst camera software (which can be solved by installing ported Gcam), and that OnePlus exclusive motion interpolation technology (which they called MEMC for some reason). The wait may not be long, so I just don't want you to regret about your buying option.

@Kevorex1
thanks for reply ??? sure you are right and happy to hear that you have no problems ???
Maybe the price drops when the OP8 appears, so that I can buy a McLaren Edition at a lower price. The price on eBay is to high for now!!!

I'd go ahead and get the OP7T Pro. I may be bias since I'm considered a OnePlus fanboy. But honestly, I love OxygenOS and think you get a ton for your money.
Don't get me wrong, ROG phones are sick. I haven't owned one, just played around with them, so I guess I don't have the full perspective. But OnePlus has always been considered very good by many, and they retain their value pretty well. I almost kept my OP3 for a fourth year and probably could've pulled it off since the dev community is strong for it (despite the hiccups with carrier issues). But if you're willing to play around with it a bit, I think it's well worth your while.

It's your call if you want to wait for the 8/8pro personally I went for the 7t pro McLaren instead of holding off for the new ones because of leaks are to be believed it's going to have a hole punch display and I'm honestly not a fan of it I can live with a half a generation old SOC and it's already a massive step up from my 6T I had previously.

I'm still baffled that OnePlus would go with the hole punch rather than full display. I know Samsung resonates well with a lot of consumers, and maybe they're trying to go for that same look I just think they are pandering a bit unfortunately.

Nope they go off the design of the previous oppo phone that released if I'm not mistaken as oppo and OnePlus are subsidiaries of a bigger company (BBK electronics?) If I'm also not mistaken the base for the 7pro and 7T pro is the Oppo (edit: a mix of the vivo nex s and find x my apologies) and OnePlus just went with that. It's also been theorized why they ditched the headphone jack on the 6T because it was based off an Oppo phone that had also ditched the headphone jack. If I had to guess the Oppo Reno 3 might be the base design for the 8 and 8pro and OnePlus will work with that.

I guess that makes sense. Considering OnePlus. I forgot that Oppo make it possible for OnePlus to have less expensive devices by using existing chassis and designs. Still... Kinda frustrating. But I guess there's only so much you can do when Oppo copies other companies' designs. But you're right. Can't blame OnePlus for that.

Hey if they can make a pretty dope phone and undercut Samsung flagships by a couple of hundred dollars resusing an oppom phone as a chasis I'll take it

Pretty sure most 2020 flagship designs are being influenced by Qualcomm's decision to not integrate the modem in the SD865 and basically force 5G since the X55 is the only compatible external modem (even if you only want 4G). Means a ton of extra space needed for 5G antennae and modem (that most people won't use) so you don't have space for a mechanical pop up camera, and increased battery usage. Which is why I got the 7T pro instead of any 2020 phone. And yes BBK electronics owns multiple Chinese companies that share resources, so the phones often look pretty similar. All the same supply chain and components. Very few companies can actually make phones in other ways, like the Purism Librem 5.
I'm still considering returning the 7T Pro and using my old 3T. The curved edges are really annoying.

I'm not a huge fan of the curved glass either. But I love every other aspect of my phone. I'd traded my OP3 in for the 6T at T-Mobile since they had a super deal going for it at the time. And from there, I became a sucker for the 7 Pro and then 7T Pro ??

Anyone considering moving to the 6T from the 6?

With the fingerprint sensor under the glass, potentially even better camera's and the bigger battery I am seriously temped to sell my 6 and get the 6T when it comes out.
Anyone thinking the same as me or am I just being an idiot lol
This is XDA. We are phone people. Phone people like phones; especially shiny new phones that are currently not in their pocket. Common sense isn't really an integral part of passion. The real question is simply can you afford to buy a new phone which will be at most an incremental improvement and is thus nothing more than a new toy?

Affording it isn't a problem but it does depend on the resale value if I go for it i.e if the price gap is too big to warrant the extra features.
I'm absolutely getting the 6T. I'll keep my 6 for backup and modding.
The 6T looks brilliant. The 7? We'll see. I skipped the 5 and 5T from the 3T.
Never Settle right?
if there will be no headphone jack 3.5, wireless charging, bigger battery, waterproof ip68 and many more, than I wish oneplus will get bankruptcy.
galaxy s10 is the way to go, even it will definitely has retarded curved display, one of the worst intentions.
honestly, I regret that I didn't wait for note9 but at this point already having oneplus6, I can wait till galaxy s10.
this retarded stupid notch on oneplus drives me crazy everyday.
absolutely hate it.
maybe I even should sell this trash oneplus6 phone, however it works well so far.

The S10 will have all of Samsung's bloatware preinstalled and the difference in price would be hard to justify frankly and the difference in camera quality is not as great as the price differential would make it seem.
The headphone jack for me is a non-issue I cannot remember the last time I used it however a bigger battery, under the glass fingerprint scanner, smaller notch are all good upgrades even if the cpu is the same.
Why is your OnePlus6 suddenly trash?

Samsung as well as oneplus has a shi...tty trash software, anyway I need AOSP.
oneplus6 cost me nearly $1000 with proper 256gb storage and galaxy s10 will be even better with 512gb, perfect size.
is going to just a bit more expensive with nearly zero compromises, I need every single possible feature on my phone, especially those features that already on my current phone MUST be on my new phone.
Retarded oneplus seo cannot get it.
I wish them bankruptcy for not delivering a proper product for already high price.
I bought the Huawei P20 Pro and am already considering selling it on eBay for the OnePlus 6T primarily though this is because i dislike the EMUI interface and missed the Bootloader unlocking train with them stopping the service. should still get £400 for it so possibly £70 out of pocket but worth it IMO. I had the OnePlus 3 and i loved that phone just not been overly impressed with the other releases of late.

OP3T user here
why i am not tempted to buy this phone thou i badly need to upgrade since my OP3T shuts down randomly coz of heat issues.
1) no triple camera, all those rumors are false.camera will be a let down with a dual setup visav the other flagships - Honor 10 / Samsung s9 / Note 9 and pixel 3/xl
2) it is no longer a Value for money phone and flagship killer. that tag has been taken over by Poco F1
3) The price has been increasing with every new model thou the justification with 3T was a new processor. 6T will have same SD845 which is in OP6
4) I dont think an inscreen fingerprint scanner is worth the price they r going to charge.for this phone.
5) Removing 3.5mm jack is a big let down and very unlike them when they and the others made fun of iphone when it removed the 3.5mm jack.
.
I shall be getting it shortly after release :good:
Development will be good and hopefully sources will be released shortly after launch just like the previous devices.
I look forward to the release

Well if you've use to the six its just a pinch bigger than that
Haven't made friends with the notch trend and at this point I'm not going to, that one is so huge as to be a deal breaker up front. The only reason I'm looking at this phone is because the notch is minimal and there is nothing out there I could otherwise buy. I don't want to move to a smaller screen which takes the vanilla Pixel out of the running. The Find X was interesting but it would seem a true international variant with working bootloader unlock and root may never be available. Samsung burned me with their idiotic bootloader shenanigans with the Note 8 and it will be a long time before they see any of my money again. Gets pretty thin after that. Heavy sigh...

OP 6T vs MI MIX 3

Hello everyone,
so my question is what phone to choose?
Each one of them are great phones and I can't decide which one to choose.
Maybe someone will help me to choose?
Mi Mix 3 seems nice. I think id rather have the oneplus software. Also I wasn't always a fan of the notch but id rather have a notch than a mechanical sliding mechanism for a camera and ear piece. So for me the choice was easy. Oneplus.

Yeah, OnePlus' software also speaks to me. I am already acknowledged with it so I know what can I count on. Smaller battery (3200 mAh) on MIX 3 doesn't encourage me to buy it too but this notchless screen just makes me think twice before choosing which one is better. Wireless charging is a nice addition too - unfortunately 6T doesn't support it :/
Man it's really difficult for me to choose "better" one

Personally, I would rather have ceramic than glass. Notch is history. Technology is still developing, but the slider technology has been around since the days of the Samsung/Tmobile Sidekick. This has been a tried and sucessful technology, so there isn't a lot to worry about when it comes to failure. All phones have their drawbacks.

Yes, it does. The 'upper shelf' version(256GB) in regard to storage, has 12 lte bands out of all 14 used in the US.

So, not everyone uses Verizon. In fact, most of the world doesn't use CDMA, but rather GSM.
if i'm not mistaken the mi mix 3 has a very good dxomark score which is the only reason i would consider it. of course i'd consider the mate 20 pro as well but can't afford a $1200 phone
I only worry because of the battery size on MIX3 do you think that 3200 mah is sufficient?
I actually like the slider camera on the mi mix 3. I'm only considering the op6t because it seems more busy here equals better development.
Battery has never been a problem for me on any device since froyo and gingerbread.
I'm going for the OnePlus 6T because I like the small notch, 3700 mah battery and the OxygenOS Software.
I'll keep it for 3 years and at that point will definitely consider Xiaomi Mi Mix 6 Vs OnePlus 9T

Mi Mix 3 already has great developers lined up so rom support won't be an issue.
The battery is a bit off putting. Many of us here are reporting 7+ hours of SoT with the 6T. I heavily doubt you'll be able to get similar results with the Mi Mix 3 considering its battery capacity.
If anything, the Huawei Honor Magic 2 looks more appealing. In screen fingerprint scanner, wide angled lens, bezel-less screen, 3500 mAh.. if that phone had the same dev support as the 6T, I think it'd be a serious contender for us.
I had the same questions
Mi Mix3:
- no notch
- better camera results
- sexy af
OP6T
- in display fingerprint reader (this is what finaly made my decision)
- water resistance
- will be supported for years
- easy root with warranty
- bought from amazon, so in case of warranty issues this is not an issue
- bigger battery

DEV support will be a problem and so will root. With locked bootloader your are at the mercy of honor for updates.
Also lots of LTE Bands missing!

Can't decide whether to get 6T or 7T

Hi guys,
Needless to say, there is a huge difference in the price between the 2 (185 USD where I'm at). I'd like your opinion whether the difference is worth it. What I'm worried about 6T is the fingerprint performance. Is it reliable? For 7T, I like the 90hz screen and better(?) fingerprint performance.
I'm not really critical on the camera. And I think 6t's specs are good enough for my use.
Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!
Go for a 7T,your getting way more,I have the 6T and it's fine, fingerprint is not that reliable but works most of the time but then again do you really need it with face unlock,
Cameras are ok on the 6T but Oneplus have really stepped up with the 7T now,
I would definitely go for a 7T if you can afford it
7T
There is no sense of getting the 6T.
7T has better Display, better storage speed, better camera, better software support because it is newer.
So basically the 7T is better because it is more recent. Also Android 10 is kinda not that stable on the 6T right now.
I say 7T. It's overall better. I have not had any issues on my 6T with Android 10. I suppose I'm just lucky and should be grateful. But the 7T is newer and has better support.
I just bought a 7 pro and have a 6T already, so my situation is different. Yes, get the 7T...but really, it isn't that much better/faster besides the 90hz screen. Honestly, the speed test of a Galaxy S10+ Snapdragon v a OP7T, the Samsung is faster mostly in real life use. That is a 855+ vs a 855 10 month old processor nearly. And the 7T still can't match the S10+ for many things except bootloader unlocking/rooting. Unless you get the Exynos...but they is likely going away as well and moving to Snapdragon.
I like the curved screen/larger size and overall build/feel of the 7 Pro. The 7T is just a 6T nearly identical. Just has a 90hz screen and some improvements. Not much of an upgrade IMO. But over the 6T if buying one...sure, get the 7T. But it will be useless in about 4-6 months because they are going to release an OP8...and let's hope it isn't more of the same...because I don't get their future plans. Unless they are moving to a curved screen, the fast 90hz scrolling (great innovation, everybody is going to use this in the future)...and average camera and etc..not sure...they are turning into HTC if they don't really step up their game with the OP8. They need 6.7" screen, better cameras no doubt..and a slight bump in price most would be fine with along with at least an 865 or better processor...plus 5G to stay relevant IMO.
For the money, yes, don't buy a 6T I guess...but honestly, I just don't see it being worth an upgrade over a 6T personally. And I don't think the 7T is really much of a relevant phone for much longer when Samsung releases and set the bar way higher for Android in two months.
Come March, and my current credits from Verizon being done...probably going to jump ship and maybe move to new S11, it is going to crush everything out there for Android...find some deals on that and get away from crappy Verizon service.
Good luck.
99% of users, would be ok with the 6T. Unless you are into benchmarks or cutting edge games, the 6T is a better bang for the buck.
I've had mine a year, see no reason to ditch it for a new one.

If you want the better phone go for the 7t but if you want a great phone for cheap, buy a like new Amazon refurbished 6t for under $300. I wouldn't buy a new 6t at this point in the game but I got my 6t for $285 from Amazon and I'm super happy.
Sent from my OnePlus6T using XDA Labs
I have the 6T and the 7 Pro, and theorecally the 7T has the same fingerprint sensor as the 7 Pro, I would choose the 7T just for the fingerprint sensor, the 6T sensor is garbage.
Thanks for the input guys. Definitely helped! I guess I would be going for the 7T when I get the budget for it. Hopefully they run a year end sale!
I've been discussing about buying a pre-owned 6T for a while. Since my budget is around $300 and can get one, I almost decided to buy. But only now I read this thread. This is the second time I'm reading the comments that the camera quality of 6T is not good. Are you all sure that? Even with GCam?
My main priority of buying a phone is if it has a strong development support and the 6T has a lot. But I haven't ever read or heard about the camera quality issue that much. My other option is to go for K20 Pro (it too has best development support) but I don't know how long it'll last. Also how do you compare the camera quality of 6T and K20 Pro?

Front facing camera opinions

Hey everyone how you doing?
Right now I am a Note 9 user and I'm really happy with the front facing camera but recently my screen has partially broke and replacing the screen is kinda expensive ?
So right now I'm thinking of upgrading but I'm torn between which phone to get. Right now I'm opting for the OnePlus 8 Pro but I'm thinking maybe I should wait for the OnePlus 8t or maybe I should go for a Pixel 5, not sure....
I'm looking for something that had a great front facing camera and I'm not sure if the OnePlus 8 Pro is a good choice
Personally I can't fault the 8 pro, the 8T besides maybe a bigger battery and potentially a marginally quicker CPU 865+
There will be little difference..
The front facing camera is brilliant, all cameras on the 8 pro are.
If you're coming from an EU note then you'll have the exynos version anyway, in which case it'll be way behind the 8 pro in more ways than one..
Cameras being the thin end of the wedge.. Simply just s better phone all around.

Wow thank you! Well yeah coming from the exynos it's a world's difference in the software and hardware department!
The OnePlus 8t though will come with the 865 regular one and not the plus version and the CEO tweeted that if we are looking for "pro features" we should get the OnePlus 8 Pro and not the T which is kinda.confusing and worrying me.
I'll see when It comes out and hopefully I can make a decision but the pixel 5 I don't think will be a option just because the Snapdragon 765g has the same amount of power as the Snapdragon 845 or the same as the note 9 so I feel kinda bumbed and I don't think I can call that an upgrade

Pixel 5 will have its plus points for sure. The camera will be superb but the battery will more than likely be teeny weeny as if always is.
Definitely go for the pro, I've got the glacial green, it's a very pretty phone, not wide, just long..but not too long..
Waterfall edges take some getting used to but after a bit it's second nature,.the off screen gestures I really couldn't live without.
Plus the development scene is brilliant and reversible which is always nice.
Didn't know that the 865+ wasn't going to be used, but in all fairness the 865 is insane, I run s lot of emulators and this thing outpaces my new Nvidia shield tv (box not stick) battery I get around 8-10 hours.
765 I'd imagine having a slower GPU which would affect gaming, not sure by hour much though.
So I guess this is making things easier for me to choose

I'm still rocking my stock 6T (Global version) on AT&T. The battery is starting to show its age I think, but other than that it has been perfect. It's in great shape and I'm not planning to change it out any time soon. 2.5 years is already the longest I've ever used a phone.
But, with lots of bad reviews on the newest OnePlus offerings, and the continually steeper prices they are charging, I'm wondering what I would do if something happened to my 6T.
I bought it because of:
Price/Performace ratio
Not tethered to a carrier and minimal crapware
Unlockable/rootable (though, I never did either on this phone)
OnePlus good history of support on prior devices (I also have a 3T, now used as a wifi mini tablet)
So, What would you folks buy if you had to get a new phone today?
May jump to a Pixel. Tried to cop a 8T, but ended up with a incompatible version of it. Even then, By OOS changing soon I want to get even more freedom. It's sad I see a lot of people going to Samsung, which I ain't knocking, But they were the reason why I switched to OnePlus..
Would love to see more responses to this post.
I will be buying a new phone next year and have been asking myself this question.
Ability to root and install custom ROMs means more to me than camera, fingerprint, wireless charging, whatever.
Although a decent camera and waterproofing would be a nice bonus.
If I could I'd go back and get a headphone jack and IR blaster as well. I miss my old HTCs.

For this options iphone is good option
I had a 6T, scratched the screen somehow, got a 7T. Loved it, but switched to a Samsung A71. (easier to get the new stuff to work on my galaxy 3 smart watch than doing a bunch of hacking/loading stuff). Great screen, good battery life. For a midrange, 300 bucks was hard to pass up.
Thanks for all the responses. It seems there's no obvious go-to for us.
Here's what I'd like, coming from the 6T:
Processor: next step up from whatever 6T had when it came up 3 years ago, but I don't need the latest-greatest
Memory: I have a 256GB storage version, with 8GB RAM. This was fine then, and is fine now.
Screen: whatever the 6T has is fine. The tiny notch never bothered me.
Connectivity: Really want 5G support! I don't cycle through phones quickly anymore so want to future proof
Required beyond doubt: in-screen fingerprint reader. Love this! 6T was the first to have it.
Cameras: I'm not a big camera guy but would like a zoom camera on the back (fixed optical zoom camera, or ability to optically zoom). Doesn't have to be best in class, but should be evolved from 6T
Now here's where I get a bit crazy: every phone I buy, I put in a case (I'm using the 6T OnePlus "graphite" case I think). What I'd RATHER have is no need for a case, but a ruggedized phone (waterproof of course) that doesn't need a case. By removing need for a case, the phone dimensions could be the same as the 6T+case. It would give room for a BETTER BATTERY. I'd like the battery to be in the 4500mAh+ plus range.
For god's sakes I wish they would bring back the multicolor LED (I used LightFlow with them in prior phones), but a good implementation of the always-on screen is fine too. But make it highly configurable and energy-sipping.
Software:
Plain vanilla Android. No bloatware. No carrier apps, but compatible with carrier apps for visual voicemail etc. Compatible with wifi calling, VoLTE etc.
Unlockable and rootable. I didn't do either to my 6T but want to know I could.
Price: I'm not looking for a flagship killer. <$600 US.
Better wait for pixel 6 launch and decide based on it, but Samsung i never recommend, if you don't have options then you can purchase mainly because of Exynos processor, grrrrr.....
I hate to say it but ios supports theming that will something mind blowing, thay have powerful hardware but software sucks too many restrictions, i believe i am living under dictatorship when i am using it

Thanks. I'm in no hurry to replace my 6T, but since it's getting up there in age, I have started musing about where to jump if necessary.
An iOS device is out of the question. I have one, for work, and it works fine, but I hate it. Hate it hate it hate it. I'm not saying iPhones are bad; my wife and kids have them and they work great for them. Just, I can't stand using them for more than the basics.
Pixel 6 looks interesting; I quail at the likely high-end price. We will see. I wish there were more options in the "next tier down from flagship" phones out there like OnePlus used to be in the 3T-6T era. No more...
Flagship, sorry it's myth nowadays, why because can you tell any good processor available in market, once upon a time we had kirin from Huawei, but now there's no direct competitor for Qualcomm, so whatever garbage they produce and claiming it the best we need to accept that , look into the 888 series, they are garbage but we don't have any options, we need to accept it and invest in that, i am thinking of using my op6t for another two years, then move to sparkling trending iglore .
Sorry i forgot to add when ever we start 4k video recording in op9pro it's getting overheat so flagship killer mya**, and overpriced because of hasselblad camera, actually they didn't manufactured or designed, and who knows what is the collaboration is, but put the name and sell it for more than thousand dollars, fantastic. I have so many good words to express but this is not the place, so i keep quiet. You know something i brought realme 6 pro for my mother, its camera is fantastic compare to my op6t, it's cost me 250$, this is my last op6t
Only opion Realme GT. Budget and looks good under the hood.
I'll go for pixel.
I'm pretty sure I'll go rogue and bite the Apple.
