Hi folks,
I'm still rocking my stock 6T (Global version) on AT&T. The battery is starting to show its age I think, but other than that it has been perfect. It's in great shape and I'm not planning to change it out any time soon. 2.5 years is already the longest I've ever used a phone.
But, with lots of bad reviews on the newest OnePlus offerings, and the continually steeper prices they are charging, I'm wondering what I would do if something happened to my 6T.
I bought it because of:
Price/Performace ratio
Not tethered to a carrier and minimal crapware
Unlockable/rootable (though, I never did either on this phone)
OnePlus good history of support on prior devices (I also have a 3T, now used as a wifi mini tablet)
So, What would you folks buy if you had to get a new phone today?
May jump to a Pixel. Tried to cop a 8T, but ended up with a incompatible version of it. Even then, By OOS changing soon I want to get even more freedom. It's sad I see a lot of people going to Samsung, which I ain't knocking, But they were the reason why I switched to OnePlus..

I will be buying a new phone next year and have been asking myself this question.
Ability to root and install custom ROMs means more to me than camera, fingerprint, wireless charging, whatever.
Although a decent camera and waterproofing would be a nice bonus.
If I could I'd go back and get a headphone jack and IR blaster as well. I miss my old HTCs.

For this options iphone is good option
I had a 6T, scratched the screen somehow, got a 7T. Loved it, but switched to a Samsung A71. (easier to get the new stuff to work on my galaxy 3 smart watch than doing a bunch of hacking/loading stuff). Great screen, good battery life. For a midrange, 300 bucks was hard to pass up.

Here's what I'd like, coming from the 6T:
Processor: next step up from whatever 6T had when it came up 3 years ago, but I don't need the latest-greatest
Memory: I have a 256GB storage version, with 8GB RAM. This was fine then, and is fine now.
Screen: whatever the 6T has is fine. The tiny notch never bothered me.
Connectivity: Really want 5G support! I don't cycle through phones quickly anymore so want to future proof
Required beyond doubt: in-screen fingerprint reader. Love this! 6T was the first to have it.
Cameras: I'm not a big camera guy but would like a zoom camera on the back (fixed optical zoom camera, or ability to optically zoom). Doesn't have to be best in class, but should be evolved from 6T
Now here's where I get a bit crazy: every phone I buy, I put in a case (I'm using the 6T OnePlus "graphite" case I think). What I'd RATHER have is no need for a case, but a ruggedized phone (waterproof of course) that doesn't need a case. By removing need for a case, the phone dimensions could be the same as the 6T+case. It would give room for a BETTER BATTERY. I'd like the battery to be in the 4500mAh+ plus range.
For god's sakes I wish they would bring back the multicolor LED (I used LightFlow with them in prior phones), but a good implementation of the always-on screen is fine too. But make it highly configurable and energy-sipping.
Software:
Plain vanilla Android. No bloatware. No carrier apps, but compatible with carrier apps for visual voicemail etc. Compatible with wifi calling, VoLTE etc.
Unlockable and rootable. I didn't do either to my 6T but want to know I could.
Price: I'm not looking for a flagship killer. <$600 US.
Better wait for pixel 6 launch and decide based on it, but Samsung i never recommend, if you don't have options then you can purchase mainly because of Exynos processor, grrrrr.....
I hate to say it but ios supports theming that will something mind blowing, thay have powerful hardware but software sucks too many restrictions, i believe i am living under dictatorship when i am using it

Thanks. I'm in no hurry to replace my 6T, but since it's getting up there in age, I have started musing about where to jump if necessary.
An iOS device is out of the question. I have one, for work, and it works fine, but I hate it. Hate it hate it hate it. I'm not saying iPhones are bad; my wife and kids have them and they work great for them. Just, I can't stand using them for more than the basics.
Pixel 6 looks interesting; I quail at the likely high-end price. We will see. I wish there were more options in the "next tier down from flagship" phones out there like OnePlus used to be in the 3T-6T era. No more...
Flagship, sorry it's myth nowadays, why because can you tell any good processor available in market, once upon a time we had kirin from Huawei, but now there's no direct competitor for Qualcomm, so whatever garbage they produce and claiming it the best we need to accept that , look into the 888 series, they are garbage but we don't have any options, we need to accept it and invest in that, i am thinking of using my op6t for another two years, then move to sparkling trending iglore .
Sorry i forgot to add when ever we start 4k video recording in op9pro it's getting overheat so flagship killer mya**, and overpriced because of hasselblad camera, actually they didn't manufactured or designed, and who knows what is the collaboration is, but put the name and sell it for more than thousand dollars, fantastic. I have so many good words to express but this is not the place, so i keep quiet. You know something i brought realme 6 pro for my mother, its camera is fantastic compare to my op6t, it's cost me 250$, this is my last op6t
Only opion Realme GT. Budget and looks good under the hood.
I'll go for pixel.
I'm pretty sure I'll go rogue and bite the Apple.

I'm switching my Galaxy S6 Edge after long using it and I have 2 main choices: OnePlus 5 (128 GB version) or the Galaxy S8+
The main reasons for me to choose the OnePlus are the faster and cleaner android performance, even though I'm a Galaxy user since the Galaxy 2 I never liked the bloatware and the oxygen OS looks wonderful.
The reasons for taking the S8+ are... Well everywhere I searched and almost any review by people who used them both are saying that it is the best android smartphone there is.
Except the reviews, the camera and amazing display and quality are much better.
After a couple of days, and hundreds of video and written reviews and comparisons I still couldn't choose so I decided to ask here, after you've used OP5 for some time, if someone approached and offered you to switch your OP5 with a S8 for free, would you do it?
Please note that cost is not an issue, here in Israel the S8+ costs about 300 ILS (about $85) more than the OP5 and i can afford it if it's worth it.
Nope. OP5 has far superior battery life, it is faster and dash charging is amazing, more ram and storage and basically Stock Android! The S8 has a better display but I'm OK with 1080p (didn't think I would be coming from 1440p phones) as I don't care about VR. Also, better updates and more frequent to date.
I switched from the S8+, the near stock Android is unbeatable for fluidity and just quality of life. Everything seems more iOS like on stock (or near it) Android. And when I say more iOS like I mean the good things about it, such as the fluidity and overall polish.
I switched from the S8. OS is light-years better. I don't need all the gimmicks and love quick updates. Portrait mode is a plus for taking pics of the family.
I'd trade, try it out for a bit, then sell it for another phone lmao. Maybe a Z2 Play or Mi A1. Who knows?

You probably should ask that question in a more Samsung friendly thread because people here are obviously going to be biased. The OP5 is better if you are into rooting or customizing your phone. But it also has terrible camera software --I could take better low light pictures with my $200 Samsung Galaxy J3. The other thing Samsung phones have going for them is the build quality. I've never owned a Samsung phone that broke before I was ready to replace it. I don't think the OP5 has comparable build quality. But if you like to root your phone and flash custom kernels and ROMs the OP5 may be the best phone on the market.
For the looks yes, I came from a s6 edge+ and my girl has a normal s8, but for overall experience, speed and stuff I would def choose the 5, and if I want looks, I just hold my girls phone for a few sec..
They could pay me money on top and I would never come back to Samsung!
As you may have noticed, most of oneplus's users (including me) see the OP5 as a superior device to the s8.
Most people are not buying this phone because it's cheaper.
Coming from an s4, I was considering the s8 and the oneplus 5. But I am going for the OP5, because I think it's the superior device.
S8 is a good phone but I cannot live with Samsung's software
I haven't used Samsung devices much, but simply because I am able to mod this (custom ROMs, kernels, etc.) with virtually no bloatware and heavy skins (such as TouchWiz) makes this the better option for me.
The S8 does have a nice design though, and from reviews/feedback, seems like it has a better camera as well; but that isn't enough for me to switch over.
The 5 is a great device and I think if you choose it, you won't be disappointed!
Considering the fact that I'm switching from the LAGGY S8+ to the OP5 then I guess the answer to this would be NO
I could go either way except for the fact that I need dual sim cards so I don't have to carry 2 phones. I used an s8 for a couple weeks before switching to the op5. They both have there pros and cons which have all been touched on here. I won't switch but I would be happy with either phone. I think the s8 design is prettier and more impressive but the op5 is easier to use.

S8+ has got a brilliant camera, sd card support and a heap of hardware features to explore. There is always things to find and surprise. Bixby is a little hard to use unless you have a US accent, I find it doesn't understand Aussie to well but it does learn.
The 4gb of ram is noticeable when you hold the Oneplus up to it though.
Oneplus doesn't have sd card support but does have dual sim support. You are stuck with the internal memory you buy so make sure you account for that. It is quick with 8gb ram and easy to flash/theme and mod .
In the end it depends if you like to be able to change roms and mod easily, though the S8+ isn't too hard after bootloader unlock (you just destroy any chance of Samsung honoring your warranty) or like to play with some cool little features you may or may not get over.
It will ultimately come down to you and how you use your device...
Just to be clear here, asking a dev forum of dedicated phone owners how their phone compares to the "competition" is not really going to get you anywhere. Most will fight tooth and nail defending their vaunted purchase and you will get a very biased opinion...
If you don't believe me, ask how it compares to an Apple... Now I've let loose the cat amongst the very heavily armed pidgeons...
I chose OP5 over an Exynos S8 because Samsung's software is the worst and I've been burned too many times. Price didn't enter the equation.
Same. Money wasn't the deciding factor for me. I had an S6... the ritual of disabling all the bloat got old. Too many gimmicks. Plus lots of RAM makes me happy.
I'd post in the S8 forum and ask why they chose S8, see what their responses are, and see if you value those things.
Home button and phone unlocking is way better on the OP. Infinity display is nice but also very fragile. I went with the OP5 instead of the S8 for these two reasons and never regret. This phone rocks.

Only big issue is Facebook Messenger is still freezing a lot when typing or just sitting idle. After several updates it's still problematic and it's only happening on my op5. I started just messaging on my old HTC m9 which still works fine, as did the s8 and s6 and even an s4 I just sold.
A Google search hasn't helped so far and I'm away from home on vacation without my m9 so it's getting frustrating.
Other than that it's been basically flawless.

[Off topic] For how much did you sell your s4? Thinking of selling it but I'm afraid nobody wants it for a good price (~100$)
Just getting some thoughts from long time samsung users! I've owned every Note series and S6edge,7edge and S8 and S8+! I love the Samsung phones, good quality and features! But it seems like they all look the same except for a few different features on different models! And locking the bootloaders on US models kinda pushed me over the edge to switch!
After research of 6" phones with good specs, I came across the Oneplus 5t with 8gb ram and 128 int. storage for $549! Factory US unlocked that works with Tmobile well and an unlockable bootloader! No bloatware and probable the smoothest, fastest stock phone ive ever owned! Developers are coming out of the woodworks and Roms are starting to appear! Im a flashaholic and im ready to do some flashing on this awesome phone
Any other Sammy users taking the leap to other phones for more options and ofcourse unlocked bootloaders?

I had a one plus one before - I liked it, and it still works fine. However, I have kids, and photos are important. Nothing, no iPhone, no other phone matches the photo quality. IPhone owners are asking what phone this is. Also samsung has taken off its heavy skin and minus Bixby, it's almost perfect! (I just turned Bixby off). Also, I don't trust Oneplus One anymore after their recent data collection issue.

Yep, I forgot to mention s8 is waterproof, and I use samsung pay, A LOT!
So here is my take on S8 vs. One plus (and even Iphone X)..
1. After YEARS of rooting, and customizing ROM, I landed on the S8 and have no need for anything. I feel now like i own an Iphone..
2. Yes, in term of hardware - S8 is a level by its own. Stability, sturdiness, size, features - a winner in every category.
3. T-MO with S8 for me is a winner. I travel a lot out of country, and this phone works literally ANYWHERE. text, data plan, the works. With Whatsapp / Skype I am connected 24/7 with people, to a point I need to apologize not taking calls at my middle of the night local time. It is ALWAYS ON ! Never had it before with ANY phone of mine, and not willing to experiment.
4. Camera - Exceptional pics at low light. Good flash , quick response, what can one ask that isn't there..
5. Weight - Lighter than most. Easy to carry.
6. Battery - out of the box i get enough juice for business use. Charging an hour while on the laptop runs deep.. Quick charge and wireless is just working..
7. Screen - Just perfect.
Out of boredom I play in stores with all sort of phones.. even if they were free, they are not impressive..
Just my $0.02 from an old pal who has some 15 years of work with smart phones, and probably have tried them all...
I was a long time Galaxy owner. I've had all of them up to the 6. I jumped ship to the OnePlus 5. a few weeks later, I find myself missing Sammy... Looking into the 8 or the 8+. The OP5 isn't water"proof", and there are no waterproof cases. With 4 kids under 7, that's actually an important feature I miss. I went with the OP5 because it's 128GB/8GB RAM, and easy to play with different ROMs, but that's not enough to warrant keeping if the kids get ahold of it and get it wet.... Now to look into 8 or 8+ for TMo...
It looks like the S8 Active supports the 600mHz band... hmmmm....

There are some other good phones out there, but the others I've looked at are unrootable. I love the camera on my GN4, and was wondering if anyone here has previously owned a GN4 and can give me a picture/video comparison with the Oneplus 6T? I've seen the reviews between the Oneplus 6T and Pixel 3, and the Pixel 3 wins easily. Sad thing about the Pixel 3 is that it's so expensive and has smaller battery, but I do love the camera results! I just have no frame of reference to compare my aging phone with the newer ones.

Honestly,if you're pleased w/all things in general with the Note 4,you're giving up a lot of features not found on newer devices.
I definitely recommend keeping the Note 4 before switching to another phone (unless you have a trade-in allowance).
If you're not going to miss an SD Card Slot/3.5 mm audio jack/I-R Blaster/LED Notifications/No Notch, then,you have the gains of more RAM & a newer phone w/better battery life/overall performance.
The OP6T is a nice phone,but,honestly,I think an OP5 or OP5T is a better choice,the former if you prefer the navigation similar to that of the Note4.
(might wanna Google search a camera comparison of the Note 4 to either/both)

I do have an OP6T, perhaps you wanted to quote the OP?
Comparing phones is subjective at best,just hitting on the features he'd be leaving behind in "upgrading" to either phone.
To some,those features are antiquated,others no so much.
Given the OP has held on to the phone for as long as he has gives me reason to believe the latter....
Too bad the prevailing trend seems to be getting less for more $$$, it's definitely a trade-off.
I've definitely compared what I would be giving up to what I would be gaining. My Sprint GN4 has been unlocked to work with domestic GSM (I have Cricket wireless now) and I have no LTE, and probably missing a few of the used frequencies (although I have never really checked). I love the screen and the camera on the GN4, but I'm stuck on Marshmallow and no security updates. I've tried Lineage OS both Nougat and Oreo, and both have so many bugs, it's not worth the headache. Not to mention it's getting harder to find batteries for it. Most I find now are "new" but end up being used. The GN4 never really did have that great of battery life, so that's one of the things that makes me want to switch to something else. Not that I'm a heavy user, but when you start using the video and taking lots of pics on the GN4, the battery tends to drain quickly. And I was hoping I would get Android Auto to work without having to plug and unplug it several times for it to connect (It's done it on Marshmallow and Lineage OS). It's almost as if it's not loading the applications fast enough for the handshake with the head unit.
I would miss my SD Card slot, that's why I was looking at the 256GB Oneplus 6T model.

You're definitely in the right place for root/ROMs,OnePlus phones get a good variety of development.
One other feature I failed to address (the elephant in the room, LOL) :
Is the S-Pen something you're using a lot of on the Note4?
If not, then this is the place to be.
Guessing you're aware of the current state of things with the newer US Notes & the pros & cons of importing either version (Snapdragon or Exynos).
If nothing else, most T-Mobile US stores have working demos of the OP6T to test drive, see if it's for you. ?

I was in your same situation. I had GN4 for 4 years and now i bought the OP6t. Honestly i didn't use the camera of smartphone so much and i cant tell you the difference right now but i will do a comparison tomorrow and post the results here
But regarding all other things, the OP6t is the winner. Better display, great battery life, fingerprint sensor is fast enough (never used on note 4 because it was unconfortable for me), there is also the face unlock and it is very fast; you will not see the lockscreen most of times.
The phone is very very fast and well optimized, no lag and didn't heat neither after an heavy usage.
Feel free to ask anything for the comparision

The pixel 3 if you care about taking pics, rest of the hardware and value go for the 6t.
I think in the 4 years I've had the Note 4, I may have used the S-Pen maybe 10 times. It can be handy sometimes, but not really a show stopper for me.
I had looked at the International versions of the Samsung devices (GN9, GS9+) and sadly, I would be missing some frequency bands on those devices too

A good camera is important for me. Although I'm not a professional photographer, it has been one of my hobbies for a while. I've managed to capture some really good shots with my Note 4, hence my particular interest in the OP6T as a cheaper alternative to the Pixel 3 XL. I managed to get a look at a Pixel 3 XL in person today and the notch was like a slap in the face. Although, I do know it can be masked out. I don't have any T-mobile stores around that I know of, so I can't check out the OP6T in person. I'm starting to feel like Sheldon on "The Big Bang Theory" where he tries to decide between an Xbox One and PS4

Well, there is also a port of the google camera for OP6t, I have to try it too, maybe i could take some better shots with it.

Zekol, I can't thank you enough for those pics! Those were exactly the type of comparisons I needed! The camera's are very close in quality, except the OP6T tends to over sharpen the images just a bit, which may be able to be changed in the app or by use of another camera app. If you do happen to take some night shots, just take a few, no need to work yourself to death

My Friend, you are driving a Model A, it's cool to look back on but this is a modern Corvette, AKA, a performance value able to whoop phones costing twice as much even if it is missing a few Gucci features. I type that having sent the Pixel 3 XL back and buying this phone instead.
The Note 4 was a little before Samsung really started getting good with their cameras, I'm not saying it was bad, I had one and in the day it was great but they got quite a bit more serious a couple iterations later and it shows; their stuff is top notch now. The 6T on the other hand is not top notch now, it's a second tier camera and you can really see this at night where the 6T camera is a fair bit more noise. In the day it's not bad at all though outside of pushing too much contrast outdoors in HDR; the picture will almost invariably turn out with a bright sunny sky looking darker than the reality. Overall though I doubt you will find the camera a downgrade. Portrait mode is actually useful for more than portraits, for example it can make a picture of something like a statue at a museum pop out of the background and it's a nice effect for such photos.
Performance wise this phone is going to be a whole new world of slick, no rom can make up for vastly more computing power elsewhere and you're going to feel it every time you pick up the phone and manipulate the GUI. You're also going to appreciate the little things that OnePlus has injected into the mostly stockish experience. You'll find that OnePlus tends to be an enjoyable ownership experience stock, they are the type of phone that grows on you. Dont want stock you can run dead reliable stockish roms, alternatively, greatly altered AOSP runs which may or may not be , ahem, dead reliable. But that's all part of the fun.
One thing you're going to notice is that the aspect ratio is comparatively sucktacular. The tall thin thing is great for girls but I would much rather have the older aspect ratios. It's annoying as hell when you're surfing the internet in landscape and the website header scrolls down as you scroll down because it can block as much as half the screen and with these thinner aspect ratios that doesn't leave much wihch sometimes making surfing a pain. I'd totally jump on a browser which blocked that behavior, also a phone that went back to the older aspect ratio but I'm digressing. You may not be pleased with the change, all I'm saying.
Minutia... Duel sim is an interesting capability allowing you to ditch a separate work phone, buy data from one carrier, voice and text from another, etc. I think more people would take advantage of it if they gave it a try. You'll be shedding your unholy attachment to chargers and day by day the anxiety you feel when getting too far from a power source is going to go diminish. How much you miss the S-pen will depend on how much you used it. You indicate that was seldom so it shouldln't be a problem. While you may be stepping away from many features I think like most you probably only used a small percentage of Samsung bloat and you're not actually giving up something you never used anyways. The feature thing is not so big as some make out.
All in all I think you're being silly. I don't mean that in a bad way, I mean you've clearly become much attached to what is an ancient device in cell phone terms and your attachment is clouding your judgement. New phones are substantially better in almost every way, I would be surprised if you aren't very impressed with whatever new device you decide to buy.

I loved my Note5 but having passed on the $500 trade in on the T-Mo Note 9 promo (still too expensive), I figured the $300 back on it for the 6T was too good to pass up. But I had many of the same concerns as you - I absolutely loved the screen on the Note5 and the picture taking quality, along with things like the headphone jack and wireless charging. But I bit the bullet because no more security updates for the Note5, no band 71, and I did notice that *maybe* Google apps were running a bit slower than they used to (figured maybe they were starting to be optimized for newer processors). But the phone was still buttery smooth otherwise.
I'm glad I did it though. It just seems so much faster, and that's saying something because I felt my Note5 was generally pretty fast.
The battery life is freaking phenomenal. That's the only reason I haven't missed the wireless charging. The screen is as good as my Note5, but the auto-brightness is not as "perfect" as it was on the Note. I read there is a tweak coming for that, but it hasn't hit the T-Mo version yet.
@krabman has it so so right with the aspect ratio. Sucktacular is a perfect way of stating it. It makes one-handed use very difficult because of how tall it is. But you get used to that part of it. Landscape is definitely less effective.
As for the pictures, I think it's kind of hit or miss. The low light is definitely better, and bright daylight is great, but I'm not convinced photos in moderate lighting is as good. I would still bite on the phone though. The prices they're getting for Samsung flagships these days are ridiculous. If you have other questions, let me know. Cheers.
Hi, I have the same dilemma and read the post, did you upgrade to op6t and have a better experience with it?
Which phone will be more long lasting in terms that it will not slow down after Android or Interface (Samsung Experience, One UI) upgrades?
I'm looking between these 2 phones for the one that will have a better CHANCE for lasting 5 years being as quick and as “battery life good” AS POSSIBLE.
I think all of us know that the OEMs make our phones slower by patches, upgrades with attached algorithms to slowly month after month (so we couldn’t notice) shorten the battery life, slower the speed and make battery consumption bigger with sole intention for us to buy a new model next year or in the next 2 years.
BTW I don’t need the Pen and I don’t play any games and I don’t need a super good cam. EDIT: no rooting and no custom romming for me on that device for ever.
If I don't need the Pen why to bother with Note you may ask?
Well, I hope that Note being the business phone is going to be treated better by Samsung in the above terms than a Galaxy S phone, but maybe it’s the other way around?

Besides that, you don't sound like you need a Note at all and the Note doesn't get any specific treatment from Samsung, it has older components, it is less popular, it is worse in literally everything by being a generation behind.
I don't know your prices, but if price is not an issue then get the S10+ and stop worrying for at least 3 years, I'm easily getting 12-14h SoT whenever I want to, the battery is great and we still have to get plenty of updates.

I value Your opinion but during years I saw plenty of comments and sellers claiming that Note is better cause aimed for business. The comparison was always like this :Galaxy S(gen) with Note(gen-1)
From the beginning till Note8 it the above scenario Note was always more expensive on premiere day.
But this year S10+ prices was 26 USD more than Note's 9 on premiere day - sad to say (for Note fans) maybe somethings wrong is about to go down like no more busyness phone treatment for Note series.
But I still do believe that Note is somehow treated better but after that price reversal I wanted toread what You think.

When I updated trough OTA from Android 8.0 with Samsung Exp. to Android 9 Pie + One UI the pros: battery consumption went at least 3 times(!!!) the cons: S8 started lagging, microfreezing, isntt as smooth and speedy as its used to be, despite:
- very low amount of foreign apps that I installed since buying
- frequent restarts of phone as recommended
- phone has never been rooter or custom rommed
I use a phone as a main work tool, replaced a lap top a long time ago.
The note has one advantage, in meetings you are writing on your phone and no one bats an eye lid, use an S9 and use your finger to tap on it you are stared at horribly, like you are the devil
As for this deliberate slowing down of phones, well it's massively exaggerated imo and it's obvious older phones with less memory and slower CPUs will struggle with large updates. This is now a myth imo, relevant at some point but you are still using an Iphone3 are you? You move on and with 8gb memory and fast CPU it will still be going strong before you can say S15 yes please

As for deliberate slowing down pf phones..... I like Your attitude although I don't agree with your point of view cause when You really look at the bigger picture not only from Samsung's stand point but other brands, Google as Android manufactuer, the early 1900's story of bulbs, modern cars, everything and you return later form this wide picture to Samsung''s perspective with all that's been happening everywhere a person that is well oriented in mobile stuff and can even do some tests by himself can CLEARly see that phones are deliberately being slown down. Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge for instance could handle Android Pie with ease as well much more next ones if it weren't for that sad practice - of course AS LONG AS there would be no new hardware required new software feature(s) without which the Android future release would loose it's main event special funcionality.
However. I would like to hear what You and other have to say about it, cause I can see that people here make very interesting points and not often a major myth is being discovered thanks to our conversations.

- lower the price of Note 9,
- sell it with payback in some areas and/or other bonuses
- all color versions are acceptable
- the normal model with 128 GB of internal storage is 100% under the obove rules I don't know if the special ones are.

I have both devices. Battery better on the S10+. Screen better. Speed faster. Unlocks quicker and easier for me, lighter, thinner, sound is much louder , camera gas the wife mode, selfie is better. The only thing I am [not] missing is the s pen.
I had the note 9, and just got my s10 plus yesterday. There is absolutely no comparison camera wise. My note 9 was horrendous, and in any sunny out door setting it would blow out the highlights and over expose. The hdr function was **** too. S10 plus is the best phone I've ever used
I have both also but Ive only had the S10 plus for a few days so I cant make a detailed comparison yet.
What I will say is the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on the S10 needs more development..its terrible.
Hardly ever unlocks the first try and is slow when it does unlock. My Note 9 unlocks the first time every time and is instant.
Im sure sammy will improve the function with software updates but even after a few days the S10 plus is annoying me due to this.
I also miss being able to use face unlock on the S10 due to having to wear surgical gloves at work it is handy at tines, they really should have left the retina scanner on the device.
Unlocking your phone is a basic function and should work flawlessly, its just not there yet on the S10 IMO.

I am now in a serious peril: S10+ costs the same from the day of pre-order, Note9's price is still significant but it dropped to 90% of it's launch price plus it has a payback promotion making the price drop to the 80% of Note9's premiere price.
I also found a shop with the last new Note8s for 51% launch price of Note9.
I'm so confused now, what would you advice me in this situation?

Id rule out the the note 8, i had an S8 plus but the fingerprint scanner was in an absolutely idiotic place beside the camera, Note 8 isn't much better. Also it does not have stereo speakers.
For me at the moment I prefer my Note 9 still to the S10 plus and if in a few weeks I'm still not liking the S10 plus ill get rid of it.
In favour of the S10 plus is the camera set up, louder speakers and it is more comfortable in hand. Newer hardware as well of course.
I mean you really cannot go wrong with either and Im nitpicking the S10 plus really lol.

"nitpicking" - maybe you thought of not picking.
The reason I mentioned Note8 is that I just want to expriance that phone for a while and probably sell it after 3 months or who knows, everyone claims that I could get addicted to Note and never buy anything else....
I will test a bunch of flagships from many brands like Huawei, Samsung, LG, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo and then decide which is the one for me. I bet it could be a Note vs. S10+ vs. a ..... Xiaomi (!!!!)

Well man the Note 9 is now 7 months old and it is about £300 cheaper than the S10+
I don't think any 2018 Exynos device is good for that price, the SoC was just badly made, they tried to fix it with Pie but there's not much left to be done.
If we rule out the Note 9 for it being an older device and overall a worse deal, the S10+ wins for:
Thinner
Better cameras
Better power management
Better thermals
Subjectively better design
Superior panel and HDR+
SoC that isn't bad at all, and has plenty of software improvement room
More RAM on base models
Will soon get dedicated night mode and 25W charging if you care about that
Could be one of the last flagships with a headphone jack
AI implementation to adapt the phone to your usage
Gorilla Glass 6
Safer fingerprint authentication that can't be physically hacked with glue
You can get it for £800 as a student

That Exynos is quite bad, yeah.
The Note 8 on the other hand is not just slower than that Exynos, sure it's cheaper but they easily get burn-in, I saw many S8 and Note 8 screens having burned notification and nav bars, sometimes the whole facebook interface was there :laugh: it's also reaching end of life regarding major software updates, Pie is its last stop.

1. Since Note's are business phones I think Samsung will give them longer time for security patches and probably +1 more Android update in compare with the Galaxy S series.
2. Note's are for businessman and You might think that they will change it every September for a new one cause they can simply afford it but I strangely enough they somehow get used to one and stay on him. I witnessed a guy that came down to the mall's electronic shop with the best Samsung device ever (Note 4) and with sad face told the sellers that he thinks it's time to change his Note4 for a newer Note because ........ damn I can't remember that cause I was so shocked.
3. Business man don't really care about having the best or latest phone. The don't have the teens or women's addiction to shopping and having everything new.
4. Businessman have a lot more on their heads than worry about a phone and I think that Samsung realizes it and that's why a Note would win in terms of longevity with a Galaxy S.
5. I am the kind of man that will not get screen burned out - too long story. Just believe me that this argument is not for me.
6.. Now it's up to which Note shall I buy. Cause S10+ will be bought eventually during 12to24 months.
7. Note8 is so cheap that I could make my dreams come true and test every brand like I mentioned a couple of posts before.
8. Please don't give up and try to fight for Note9 or Note8 or against them., cause if I don't buy any of them I could quicker roll over the competition phones by saving the money that I have for Note8/Note9.

3700 battery can last me at least one day, if not charging is omg fast. Before I went to shower phone was at 28 percent come out of my shower(around 20 mins) phone and s at 85 percent.
OnePlus does update pretty quickly at least faster than Samsung?

I think that's one point of view definitely and I would agree with you 50% but you can't argue that other company's, Xiaomi,now even Samsung are offering a lot more or equal at less of a price
Having used OnePlus since the release of the 3,I'm worried OnePlus is gone off track with there ever rising prices sometimes bad decisions
The in screen fingerprint for example shouldn't of been in the 6T,why take away the LED also.
Hope the 7 is gonna have the newer faster in screen fingerprint sensor,led and a more appealing price

What is Samsung offering with a SD45 at equal or less?
Now would be the SD55, but you get my point.
The FP sensor under screen isn't any worse than Samsung. I've seen the complaints about the S10.
The rising prices reflect the additional cost of components and R&D. They are still offer flagship like phones for less than Google, Samsung, LG, etc.
I give A50 a year (and I am generous) before lags will drive users crazy because your device will be slower after every single samsung update... If you want lags, locked bootloader and lack of any basic stuff you are used to while using ubl phones with a not-so-good-looking sugary coat samsung provides to amaze the users for almost the same price, go for it.
My personal problem, OneUI looks good on certain images, but I found it ridiculous on a phone in my hand. I just don't like that launcher, that icon shape, that colors, that bar on the bottom even if they made it thin, I am so into the real gesture navigation that I see all the other options just not good enough.
I am a customization freak, I tried every single customization option on the market since I use android phones, and guess what I use on Oneplus: stock launcher, stock round icons.
From my experience Sammy latts laggy after some period of time and I've had a good number of them: Note 2, 3,5; S4, 7,8. Its unknown how One UI will behave in a long run.
OnePlus provides better software experience and
can be easy unlocked and tweaked to your liking. Samsung won't give you that option.
Don't get my wrong, Samsung has definitely stepped up their game in recent years. But their failure rates are certainly higher than any other manufacturer in terms of long-term support, and OnePlus' track record stands for itself when it comes to dependability. I know not everyone thinks that, but the numbers don't lie. This isn't including the fact that OnePlus is a huge supporter of third party development vs other brands that spend millions on ensuring you can't break their software restrictions if you ever decide to pull that trigger and make your own choice (with the exception of the source of the fingerprint scanner for the 6T... But then again, no product is perfect). Like I said, Samsung has gotten better, and it probably won't be a bad purchase overall vs purchasing Samsung 2 years ago. But OnePlus is a brand that's pushing barriers that other brands have been reluctant or even outright hostile to go towards themselves.
The choice is ultimately up to you and people who get downright rude or hostile about switching need to chill. But I personally would say to consider the trade offs of the long-term functionality of your device before switching. If you're someone who doesn't use a device past a year: sure you can get a pretty good deal, I'm sure. But if you want longevity, I'd say OnePlus is your best bet, especially if you're trying to stay cost-efficient with your devices.

Yes I understand what you are saying. Oneplus does have a good track record but lately they have slacked IMO.Updates now consist of meaningless OnePlus app updates with no new features.Back with the OnePlus 3 the updates would be featureful with plenty of fixes, optimisations etc.Now OnePlus is not a budget device and people generally buy the phones for software and there has been nothing to get excited about with the 6T at all in the betas offered so far
Now the a50 is half the price and addresses certain problems that the 6T has such as AOD for notifications and has additional hardware features,better display,bigger battery and I'm pretty sure Samsung will offer 2 Android versions no problem, not as Quick as Oneplus,but I still think it's an appealing alternative. And OnePlus has also slowed down with the stable releases
What was I thinking.just bordem I think. Will wait for the op7 and see if it's worth an upgrade. Might just stick with the 6T till next year wen I typically change phones every 2 years.
I now submit that the 6T is a far superior device than the a50,got a look at it and it's made of plastic or glass tic as they call it, I like the software though of One UI and OnePlus needs to add some new features to keep me happy,maybe this will happen with the 7,they will need to address the led situation though and gv us AOD in oxygen OS

And that's why I switched to the OnePlus 6T because Samsung devices are just boring. Overly priced we can't do nothing with them equals boredom.
