I'd be curious to hear their reasoning for not doing it. I have my assumptions (battery life impact). If it were to be added, I'd expect they'd probably put up a flashing red warning about the negative(s).
Maybe they could compromise and do 90hz at 2k if the display supports that refresh rate, although I am sure the clever chaps at XDA would be able to work out a way of doing it.
Overheating?
Interface bandwidth constraints?
Supposedly it will be achieved once rooting is available, via config apps.

The article says "what is unfortunate is that we don’t know as to when the firmware update will arrive" - hence it's alright to have this thread opened I think till "this change" is actually seen in retail units.

I mean to say that it has now become acceptable for other manufacturers to do it since Apple had risen their prices. I never claimed that Apple is the most expensive at the moment.

Depending on where you live. Pro Max 256GB is a bit more expensive than S20 Ultra and you get free Buds+ and fast charger. Maybe you live in the US where iPhones are cheaper.
In Europe:
iPhone 11: 800- 850,-
iPhone 11 Pro 64GB: 1100-1150,- 256GB: 1300-1350,-
iPhone 11 Max: 1250,- 256GB 1400,-
S20 4G: 899,-
S20 5G: 999,-
S20+: 1199,-
S20 Ultra: 1349,-
Still I think they're overpriced by 200,- and I think 64GB is not really an option.
i really hope they follow through. I know battery life will be impacted but I'm usually close enough to a charger that I wont care. Let me show off to those iphone users.

Yeah, that was very bad of Samsung.
The good news is that Samsung has to step on it now. The new competition is no longer Apple. It's no longer enough to be a little better than iPhones as it used to be.
There are so many new gaming smartphones and so on now.
Finally, after years, there is real progress again.
According to Max Weinbachs tweet, the update will roll out in the next 1 to 3 Months.
If you want flagship specs at a lower price there's One+.
I sent mine back because it kept losing connection on cell and wifi.
Could have been defective, dunno.
And no wireless charging kind of sealed the dealbreaker status.
JMHO
120Hz is going to be a common thing.
My iPad Pro 11" has it and that display is smooth as Teflon.
The XS was brand new when it was released and it spanked it hard.
Even the mighty 11 Pro Max can't top the A12X SOC. A14X is going to be a beast!
I fear that refresh rate wars will start. 240Hz is next.
So even as one day we have a 10Ah graphene pack that can go from 5% to 95% in 5 min or less, full off charger experience is under a day because of mm wave 5G, 8K displays, 16K video capture with no less than 10 microphones for discrete positional array audio, etc. It's gotten ridiculous.
That will ruin the battery I think

And if there are no consequences for screwing up, there's no reason to improve.
Of course, the real question is WHY they had a loss. I obviously think they've screwed up plenty of times - see the lack of Euro Xoom updates and locked bootloaders in phones - but it's hard to say how much effect those particular choices had. There are also lots of boring and simple reasons for a loss, like business restructuring or increased product costs.
Motorola was ahead of Apple http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROKR_E1 but was never able to make an impact like Apple did. This shows a lack of vision and leadership. The Xoom again is light years ahead of the Ipad in my opinion in terms of HW, but still cannot shake the ipad in terms of market penetration. Last night I was watching the HP tablet add... the key point they made was ..oh we can play flash! sounds silly to us, but my friend (non-geek) was excited saying finally he can watch those foreign language movies on that website which use flash...
Xoom was priced at $600, it did not have a working micro SD solution but now other Android Tablets are coming I think it is kind of late.
For Android in general Motorola has and continues to be too slow releasing upgrades. In Canada in MAY !!! the upgrade to 3.1 !!! is coming soon !!!! it is August. Here is a clue, soon means tomorrow or even later in the week NOT MONTHS !!!! They get Canada 3.1, then so what the latest version is 3.2 it is such a thing that stops any sane person from buying Motorola.
For Android Phones MOTOblur nobody wants it but Motorola
We can't even get 3.2 on our 3g Xoom.....so when ICS comes out we are going to be the last to get it..but this is not just moto Verizon has their hands in that part. But I believe moto should push Verizon if not to just keep us happy but they dont
I think we, by that I mean the XDA and hardware enthusiast, only represent a fraction of Moto's or any other hardware developers sales. The average person probably doesn't realize they haven't received the 3.2 update much less that ICS is in the pike.
Yes I am sure they are aware of us and we are important to them but by no means are we the majority.
When the Xoom finally released Moto was already at work on the next device and the next beyond that.
They don't put much of their resources into supporting a device that has already sold. They want you to buy the next one. Unfortunately building relationships seems to be a thing of the past.
Just my two cents worth.

Very very well put....thank you
Looks like there is a higher-end variant of the Mi Mix in the horizon called the Mi Mix Evo. Leaked Geekbench screenshot shows Snapdragon 835 and 4GB of RAM.
I wonder whether it will have a better camera sensor.
I'm not worried about the Snapdragon 835. I knew there were many new devices from Samsung, LG and the like with better specs than the Mix, coming out soon.
I expected the Mix to be a "one of a kind" device for a while, like how the Xperia Z Ultra was, at one point of time.
If the rumors pan out to be true, the fact that it may change that, is a bit disappointing I guess.
Moreover, judging from Xiaomi's history with previous devices, it doesn't look like we may see a lot of development for the device. Add to the fact, a very small community of us here and an even smaller community of users at the MIUI forums.
Does anyone regret buying the Mix, considering the Mix Evo would be sold at a similar price?

No regrets
@vergilbt I agree..
Not at all.
Sent from my MIghty Mix.
This would be cool if it has something other than a ceramic or glass body.
It'd be refreshing to have a ruggedized shell/display,no need for a case.
Otherwise, I don't have regrets.
Worldwide 2G/3G/4G/LTE support would be the main spec to consider trading up.
An I-R Blaster & wireless charging would seal the deal.
There's a lot of nice phones hitting the market soon, most of us here will be experiencing some measure of buyers remorse, especially if you're strictly a one-phone-at-a-time user.
HTC's latest U Series devices look nice. The Ultra is tempting (for me),but, I'm passing.
Besides, they will likely introduce yet another flagship @ MWC.Ditto with Huawei (P10), Samsung & LG.
It's a vicious nonstop cycle that's a real Love/Hate experience for those of us who use little to no restraint in trying out virtually everything on the market. ?
With that said, I'm outta here for a bit,got a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro that just delivered & a Huawei Mate 9 delivering tomorrow.

Most of my phone deals have been leases via T-Mobile's JumpOnDemand.
I've sold a few,not many,but, the trio of Xiaomi Mi MIX/Redmi Note 3 Pro/Huawei Mate 9 look to be long-term keepers,having buying them outright.

My phone came with an unlocked bootloader.
As soon as I realized that, I installed TWRP,made a backup of whatever was on my phone & jumped to the EU ROM,switched seamlessly to GlobeROM (very similar).
I have most MIUI/Xiaomi apps disabled, using SD Maid Pro.
Using Nova Launcher Pro & MIUI Xposed,I believe there's a thread here somewhere with the links for the proper version of Xposed for MIUI 8.
If not, just ping me & I'll post/PM 'em to you.......
In photography we call that Gear Acquisition Syndrome (gas).
The way I fixed it is to use the older generation for a while. I had a pretty serious issue with phones before but was forced to use my original xperia z1 after g4 had bootloop issue.
Turns out the z1 is so lovable that I didn't even bother fixing the g4. I only got the mix since it's one of a kind phone.
The hardware upgrade is getting insignificant. Even with a 50% battery improvement on the mix, it wouldn't be that important since the original mix is already pretty damn good.

Got this device just a few weeks back. I knew there were next gen phones with next gen specs coming out around Feb- March, which didn't bother me much. I bought the Mix, knowing this is a unique device. If an upgraded version hits the market too soon,, it will significantly diminish the value of the Original Mix. Moreover, we may not see much in terms of development if the interest for this device goes down too soon. And considering Xiaomi isn't very good at releasing kernel sources, we may even be on Marshmallow for a long long time. And that kinda sucks, especially for people who don't switch phones too often!
Before people start getting too pissed off, bear in mind the sheer volume of fake rumours that surface in relation to Xiaomi handsets - probably more even than for Samsung or Apple.
There's already been the debunked news about the Mi Mix Nano, not to mention the rumoured SD821-toting Mi S that never materialised, the rumours about a Mi 5C that have so far come to naught and a lot of Mi Note 2 rumours that turned out to be incorrect.
For all we know, that's just a test unit for the SD835 Xiaomi are using that's been given some random name - or even a completely faked benchmark.

Just hoping Xiaomi releases Kernel source for this device. As long as we see some real development for this device, I don't have any problems even if they bring one with Snapdragon 840.
The oneplus 3/3T has some really good ROMs, is based on the same chipset and if we have the source for the Mix, guess we can port a few ROMs. AOSP or CM anyone?

Nothing like forced perspective to appreciate the MIX:
1) Just finished setting up my Redmi Note3 Pro & while it's definitely a great device, arguably the best bang for the buck available,it can't hold a candle to the Mix.
2) Same with my Samsung Galaxy Note4,is still a great phone, but, even with its S-Pen/I-R Blaster/expandable storage & removable battery, I'd pick the MIX without any hesitation. The performance/display/battery life are outstanding, exceeding expectations big time.

Don't get me wrong, I completely get how frustrating it is to shell out for something and have it be superceded shortly after, even when you know it's likely to happen.
And should Xiaomi turn around and announce a superior Mi Mix a couple of months after I got mine, I'd be first in line to whine about it.
But having spent something like 10 months last year waiting for a phone I wanted to splash out on, I've come to realise just how low the wheat-to-chaff ratio is with Xiaomi rumours. So I'll hold off on complaining until I know for a fact what's happening

Each to their own, of course, but for me a huge part of the appeal of the Mi Mix is MIUI - any other ROM would feel like know was losing part of what makes the Mix so great.
So, a few sources say that our devices will receive the Android O update very soon and to pass the time, why not share our expected or assumed OTA roll-out dates? I think that we will receive the update by the end of this month. What about you?
Agreed. I think they will probably release a rollback package or something like that with the original firmware to go along with it (7.0).

From everything that I've read and taking Honor's past into consideration I think we may have to wait until March, which makes little to sense to me.
Why isn't Honor putting a little more effort into marketing this device? I've bought a half a dozen so far, primarily for friends that were still using phones from 3-5 years ago. They all love it and of course, coming from older devices, they feel like this device is a flagship!
Only real thing I miss is NFC, but my watch has it. 2.4 GHz is what I use for everything but my video streaming devices. I really could care less it still has a MicroUSB port.

You seem to be a very Nice and Thoughtful friend.. To purchased not only 1 of these devices for yourself.. but to gift over $1,200.00 U.S.D. / 985 EURO's to friends to update their devices.. is truly a friend indeed :good:
Since you are obviously a man of means... what brought you to this budget device in the Honor 7X ?
It's certainly not the fastest..
Or.. has the best display...
Or.. the most RAM..
Why not the View 10, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, One Plus 5T, Pixel, S8, Note 8 ???
What brought a man of your means to the Honor 7X.. I'm really curious to know if you don't mind sharing..
As a software developer I own a plethora of devices and usually carry a minimum of 2 devices. Generally I am very conscious of the condition of my devices and despite the fact the majority of them never leave an office environment, they are all plastered in screen protectors and cases, it seems like they become more fragile every year. The S8 has been my secondary to my Pixel XL 2 since I got it, but as soon as I received the Honor 7X I put the S8 in the drawer. The 7X runs naked and I'm not worried about dropping it. It has enough of what I need. I run package Disabler and remove most of EMUI and Huawei's bloat, with Pixel launcher installed, I have a very close to stock Android on a rugged unit that's as tough as a 90s Nokia!

I will never buy another Huawei phone, and their reasons for not updating are not the specs. I am sure since it is probably one of their most popular phones, adding in all the US buyers, Huawei wants us off this phone so we will buy one of their other phones. Sorry, I am not into Phablets, and now that I see most of these chinese (and some American) phone companies are not updating their phones, or taking their sweet time, I will have to spend more money and buy a Sony/Samsung/Google phone.

Sorry, I am not into Phablets, and now that I see most of these chinese (and some American) phone companies are not updating their phones, or taking their sweet time, I will have to spend more money and buy a Sony/Samsung/Google phone.

Well is not a good example for a good update policy either. My gf just got NOUGAT a few weeks back. I mean they actually provide their flagships with two major updates, but they are extremely slow and their software is just slow. I would describe sony as average, I mean they are not fast but faster than most other companies. I think next time Id go with a phone from google, even if they are really f expensive. But even the Nexus 5, a phone I bought in 2013 and sold then, has a ****ton of 8.0/8.1 Custom Roms.

That's what I'm saying I think everyone should just go with Google Now and hopefully they start selling cheaper phones. Because who in their right mind would want to drop 1K on a phone

Well Apple users Jk, the phones Google sells are actually good, just not for a price like that. I mean the price isnt even dropping otherwise I would have already bought one. They really have to improve their price policy.

Sony is not bad at updating, and yes they take their time, but I went through many updates and upgrades on my Sony Z3 Compact, so they back their devices and support them...unlike Huawei. I loved that Sony phone. I was considering the Sony XZ1 Compact, but they disabled the fingerprint reader in the US (yes, I know you can flash a euro rom) but I am going to hold out a little longer and see what Google produces.

And the worst part is about Apple users, have you seen all the **** apple has done, slowing down there older phones without telling anyone and all this other stuff. My gf has the iPhone X and it's cool and all but with all the bugs that have been coming with apple, that's a hard pass. And yah Google makes really good phones but the price point that they're selling them at right now it's just not worth it.

LOL...seriously. I had an iPhone 6S before the Honor 8. I was holding out to see what the iPhone 8 and X would deliver, but when they announced basically just upgrades to their camera and that horrible black bar (reminds me of the bar on the Moto Smartwatch) edge screen on their X ...and then dem prices. I was like, now you are just raping your customers. That is when I switched to the Honor 8 ....because it is very iPhone like, and cheap.

Close, but Sony has their own UI, at least back then on the Z3 Compact. I am not sure about the latest model. I think I read somewhere (foggy memory) that now it is close to stock.

And about the Sony phone yah I think it's close to stock but for some reason my phone always ran hot so I went with the honor 8 next.
Someone just said this. I don't really understand why one model would get Oreo and another model wouldn't. ?

Google is really disgusting... The price of Pixel C is almost equal to iPad pro, but the functional updats is only 2 years.
The Tegra X1 is still more powerful than most Android SoCs, but no support any more.
Google has wasted Pixel C's hardware.

I hate how right you are. Maybe they aren't putting in the time just because of sales volume? I am sure there will be some good roms for it.

Only the GPU of Tegra X1 is still superior today. Its CPU and RAM performance are 20 to 50 percent lower than most flagship Android devices of the past year.

Probably correct, but so what? Is that sufficient excuse to drop it? I bet P would run on much more humble configuration.

You do realize that the length of support is published years in advance, don't you?
Whining just because Google is doing what it said it would do is plain silly.

Google didn't publish the life cycle of Pixel C. Only Nexus family and Pixel phones.

Oh goodness. My mistake.
Google never explicitly stated that the Pixel C would be exempt from it normal update schedule. That should immediately let the world know that it would receive unending support.
Dumb.

So why should anyone buy a Pixel tablet? If that's Google's business model for tablets they might as well (if they haven't done already) jack it in. Buying tablets is different to upgrading your phone every couple of years.
I am hoping to have ChromeOS instead of Android P on Pixel C, since ChromeOS for tablets is on the way...

Totally agree with your comments on this.. The Pixel C was a total waste, for the most part mine just collects dust, and maybe that is why no further support? Just not a viable form factor?
I had three units under warranty with the third finally working. By the time I got a working unit that did not reboot or have power issues the device felt dated. Maybe a fresh coat of paint with P would help, but I doubt it.
I love my Pixel C, I use it every day as part of my business activities, and of an evening I'll use it to play some games, consume some Youtube videos, Netflix etc.
I'm disappointed that Google aren't replacing it with another tablet device, as there is very little 'business-class' devices in the Android world

Nobody's stopping you from starting a company and raise funds via Kickstarter to sell a tablet with infinite software lifecycle support. Why don't you do that and show the disgusting company how it's done?

Grow up! I was asking a valid question as to why would anyone buy a £500 tablet if it stopped getting updates after two years. The Pixel was made to try and convert iPad users to switch to Android in my opinion, and it may put people off from doing that, as Apple don't stop supporting their tablets after two years.
I suppose we can just flash Lineage once that upgrades to P?
Its crappy that our weird underlying OS (for want of a better word) and lack of popularity means a tiny dev scene, but that's not Google's fault directly.
They did give us 2.5 years of updates from release date. That's not so bad. All in all my Pixel C works as advertised, so not sure what everyone's so angry about.
Wonder if this has anything to do with it?

10s of millions do just that with Samsungs - you only get 2 years updates for even the top end S range, and they cost a lot more than £500!
Not having Android P doesn't make it any less of a device than having Nougat or Oreo. All the apps work and carry on doing what they've always done. MS Word or YouTube or BBC News or Twitter don't work any differently in Nougat or Oreo and wouldn't under P.

In that case why update any device? We get updates to improve the experience as well as security for your device. Are you still on Eclair?

A question that has been answered many many times in these hallowed halls. Plenty of people buy Samsung devices that don't get update after 2 years. Everyone likes to compare with Apple. You do realize Apple designs their own hardware soups to nuts right? Google designed their devices based on SoC from other companies. If those companies don't provide updated drivers to work with the new OS, how do you think Google is going to make it work reliably. And before you go saying "There are 3rd party ROMs that does that!" Ask yourself if that ROM doesn't work, what kind of guaranteed support do you get? If it bricks your device, what is your recourse?
Telling you to go start a company that will support a device infinitely is telling you to go dig deeper into what dependencies there are in doing such a thing.

For the vast majority of users there is no need. In fact there is a significant numbers of users who refuse to upgrade any device for various reasons.
But for those that do update a device - any tech in fact - it's all to do with dopamine. The consumer society is a construct to create more dopamine.
For users and sellers the pleasure of the new, the pleasure of change, the pleasure of not being left behind, of being ahead of your peers in the constant battle to, not only keep up with, but beat the Jones', but ultimately the pleasure of enjoying the VAST profits being made when all the sheep have to have your new device, right here, right now!
