Hello,
I'm trying to find a way to schedule a daily power off my Samsung S5e tablet without having to root the device.
Is there a way to achieve that? Basically I use my tablet only at night so I don't want to have it open the whole day without a reason but I sleep while listening to podcasts so it doesn't suit to power it off manually.
Basically I'd like what Huawei offers out of the box to schedule power off from the device settings.
Thank you.
Don't know of a power off, but there is a reboot under general management / reset.

Hey guys, i'm new to this site. I have a quick question about shutting the wizard down... I want to be able to turn it off without just pressing the power button and leaving it running, and i dont want to keep turning it off by holding the power button down and then it saying "Device will be off, and may lose some data. Do you want to continue?" and then turning it off and then not having some settings saved(especially the backlight turning off because i want it set to 5 min and not the default 10 sec.) Does anyone know a setting or a way for me to actually turn off the phone without losing these settings. Thanks in advance for any help I get.
It's a computer, not just a cell phone. You can't just turn it on and off like a light switch, it wasn't meant for that.
Your backlight settings should be getting saved. If you're running a home-brewed ROM, you might want to discuss this problem with the cook. If it's a stock ROM, you may have some kind of registry corruption or another problem unrelated to turning the phone off. A hard reset might fix this issue, but you should back up any personal data before doing it, as it will wipe it out, along with any extra apps you've installed yourself.
There is software that you could use to bypass the press-and-hold scenario for shutting down: psShutXP.
change N1 behavior/settings & automate tasks based upon connected bluetooth device?
I've had my ATT N1 for the past 1.5 wks and have been loving it. I know with the desktop dock for the N1 that bluetooth can be automatically enabled when docked (at least it does for me). i hope to see this go one step further perhaps. i've tried searching on the market and here on xda, but I haven't found anything that does what i'm thinking of...
I'd like the phone to change various behaviors (eg. sound alerts, screen unlocking, application launching, etc) depending upon the bluetooth device that it is paired with. Essentially, creating setting profiles dependent upon the connected bluetooth device and reverting settings when disconnecting from said devices.
I envision:
-connecting w/ car bluetooth:
disable screen unlocking (having to unlock via pattern while driving is not only annoying but possibly dangerous)
jump to a particular home screen, automatic launching of application such as car home, google maps/nav, music, etc
enable maximum screen brightness (if plugged in and charging could be another modifier. the N1 AMOLED really is pretty bad in direct sunlight and is even worse when trying to view while wearing sunglasses)
set max volume
upon disconnecting, revert to original settings, disable bluetooth
-connecting w/ desktop dock [bluetooth] (bluetooth isn't an absolute requirement here since it can recognize the dock due to the electrical contacts)
disable screen unlocking
silencing most alarms/alerts (so that i can sleep in peace w/o being woken up to by random spam/marketing emails overnight)
upon disconnecting/undocking, revert to original settings
are there any combination of apps/settings that can make this possible? at this point, i'm not too interested in rooting my phone...
thanks
BlueDock (market) plus Tasker (in beta, not yet in the market - http://tasker.dinglisch.net/).
In a future version Tasker will hopefully be able to do this on it's own. But currently you have to hack it useing BlueDock to start an application you don't really need, have Tasker detect the start, kill the app, and then change your settings according to your needs. One drawback is that the app started by BlueDock will only start once the phone is out of sleep mode. So you have to press the unlock button once - no need to swipe to unlock, though.
As for disconnecting you have to abuse the change in the power status.
The setup is quite complex. I will post my setup on the tasker wiki as soon as the next version is released (which will, I hope *gg*, provide a bugfix that make this a little smoother) and I have time. ;-)
I have a widget which I use to indicate whether I want to listen to podcasts (using BeyondPod) or to music. Upon switching on any of my bluetooth devices it will start playback and set the loudness according to the device connected - it will have to be louder with the car bluetooth than with the headset. Upon detecting the car bluetooth it will also start Waze.
interesting. i know what i'm asking is a bit complex. but i'll definitely keep an eye on Tasker. as they're mostly background tasks, any idea as to the battery consumption of these applications? (eg. surprisingly the "Shake Them All" live wallpaper i had installed was consuming up to 10% of battery time recently and was ultimately uninstalled even w/ those cute androids)
My usage pattern says:
40% Display
35% Calls
6% Standby
5% Android System
5% Phone inactive
2% EarthRot
2% Mediaserver
2% Android OS
Tasker isn't even listed.
Within Tasker I have more that a dozen profiles and about 30 tasks.
I'm currently still running stock KitKat on my Note 3, but am considering upgrading to Lollipop for the security patches (not for the look of the thing, obviously!).
However one modified-kernel feature that I use all the time is Touch2Wake, where for a few seconds after the inactivity timer has initially turned the screen off, a simple tap anywhere on the screen will bring the display back on. After 10 seconds or so the phone then goes into its normal sleep mode where it needs the Home or Power buttons to restart (so no long-term power implications when using this feature).
This simple feature makes things like reading books or webpages, which may take longer than the normal screen timeout period, so much easier, and having got used to it I'd hate to be without it now.
I'm having trouble finding a way to do this with a Lollipop kernel though, and it's actually stopping me from upgrading at the moment. It's such a simple but amazingly useful and elegant solution.
Any suggestions?
Andre
Hi guys,
Having an issue with my Note 4 (SM-N910F) international version since the MM 6.0.1 update. I received a further update after the MM 6.0.1 recently and thought the issue would've been fixed but alas, no!
Current version of Software: N910FXXS1DPE7.
Issue is, I have power saving mode turned on and set to: Start power saving "Immediately". However it keeps getting turned off and the screen becomes bright and I could not recognise a pattern how this occurs.
Things tried so far:
-Unticked automatic brightness and dragged all the way to low.
-Smart stay was/is never ticked.
-Auto adjust screen tone is ticked, but unticking that and also leaving automatic brightness turned off still causing power saving to automatically turn off.
-I have tried to check for this issue in Safe mode and it still happens.
Any ideas of what could be causing this? I do not want to do a factor reset for this issue and if it can be avoided after all. Safe mode is somewhat similar isn't it?
I have noticed the issue occur when I start using Gmail app (not the Inbox one), but that is just one scenario.
It seems like the light sensor gets triggered when it faces bright light and turns off power saving mode and screen becomes bright, but just could be a red herring.
Thanks a million!

I have just one problem like yours. When i receive Marshmallow i just update. But Power Saving turns off every reboot. Just back to factory settings and make your wipes. I solve this with wipes and factory.

Thanks. Yeah I am trying to avoid factory reset because can't go thorugh the process of installing apps, setting up all the various accounts etc especially since there is no built in fully restorable backup feature. Family man with kids and have enough IT stuff to do at work.
I'm on stock/non-rooted device also. And this will be my last Samung device, if not the last Android!
I understand you very well. You can use HELIUM apk to make your nandroid backups without root and make easier this tedious work. I don't have rooted my phone but helium makes all faster that, and i use also wondershare mobile go for android and PC.
I hope this helps you and you can resolve your problem. Good luck and regards from Switzerland - (Mexico)

Thanks Tavok. I did download Helium and wanted to test it out, however my phone is now staying in Power Saving mode since a few days! I have done nothing new, didn't uninstall any app or change any settings as such for it to work. This is bugging me because I want to know what fixed it so that I can re-apply the fix again if need be.
I've also read that some people are complaining about Note 4 getting stuck in Power Saving mode and I hope this is not the case with mine, now that it seems to work as expected.
I will update this thread once I check it out further.
I found out how this power saving mode gets turned off. It is the Location settings. If location is off, the power saving mode stays on (this is what it was set to hence I didn't see the issue happening). But when I changed it back to High accuracy, I started to notice the power saving getting turned off from time to time when using certain applications that require Location accuracy.
This is a bug since the MM update!!
Any ideas how to use Location accuracy and still retain Power saving mode?
I did a factory reset and the issue persisted! I tried various location settings(of the 3 choices) asks none of them helped. When set to any one of them power saving automatically turns off after a while I.e. when location needs to be detected. The only workaround us to turnoff location altogether but that messes with the auto sync of accounts! Grrrrrrrr
I verified with Samsung Tech Support that Location and Power Saving are incompatible on the Galaxy Note 4, even with the latest Android version available for the device (6.0.1) . In other words, Turning on Location while Power Saving is active will disable Power Saving after a short period. Fortunately, the problem is fixed on later devices.
My s10 shuts down when I sleep mode my phone
Sleep mode? Like how do you put your whole phone in sleep mode. You can only place individual apps in sleep mode.
Sounds like the battery needs replacing. It is common for ones that are not actually holding a full charge to show as a higher percentage than they actually are.

You might want to try doing a factory reset and fresh set-up (not from any backup including Google Cloud). You could have accidentally enabled a setting that automatically shuts down your phone which can happen in Bixby Routines, the battery settings and probably other places in One UI given how many software features Samsung throws into their phones. If you don't know where to look the easiest thing to do is a factory reset--but if you don't choose the fresh start/new device option when setting up your phone you could end up restoring whatever is causing your problem.
I don’t think the S10 has been out long enough for your battery to be going bad unless it was defective.
@jhs39 has a point, one option is in general settings/ reset .. last option... auto restart.
