Windows 10 Pro reinstall activation - Windows 10, 8, 7, XP etc.

Hello everyone,
kind of new around here, but hopefully will get the hang of the forums pretty soon.
I'm currently looking to upgrade a few PCs from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro. I know I can upgrade "in place" (install Win 10 "on top" of Win 7), but since it's also time for Hardware upgrades, I might as well do a fresh install.
My question is, when I buy the Win 10 Pro license keys, will I be able to reinstall in the future with said keys?
I know you can also use a microsoft account to register Win 10 Pro automatically, but can you "store" more tan one license key in a microsoft account?
Any help is appreciated.

insofar as your first question, yes. Windows will notice certain hardware changes and prompt you to activate windows and it will say that your serial is already in use, at which point when i was personally doing this, i had to call MSFT and have a lil chat with one of their representatives and give them the serial numbers off the products i had removed from the rig i was repairing. The fella gave me a new activation code and its been gucci ever since.
to your second question, im not sure if you can store more than one activation code or not, but a logical case can be made to support either side of that debate. Anyways, i cant help ya on that one. cheers mate

I think this Microsoft's article covers some scenarios about your questions, pretty much I guess:

@moderators: sorry I needed to post a link to help this person, it's not spam.

2: i often find myself thinking the same thing when im perusing threads, but man, youd be surprised. i find threads that are 30+ days old and post solutions that then get replies saying it worked\need more help\new issue emerged. Shoot, for that matter, Im having an issue i posted up in howard forums and still have the issue extant.

Update the xda-developers profile page?

After having just sold my XDA-II and upgrading to the XDA Exec, I thought, "I better change my profile on xda-developers", but when looking at the page it merely has the option for owning the XDA or XDA-II. I think its about time for the options to be updated to include the newer range of HTC phones, anybody agree?

They know about it LOL, if you run a portal like this and you don't notice how out of date everything is then there is something very wrong haha.
I do think this is a great portal and an upgrade of forum (to a more modern functional system) and the aquiring of a new domainname should be nr1 in their agenda.
I am sure they think this portal makes a decent profit with all those donations and making investments in updates and changes will cut their income LOL.
But behold if they don't take care someone else could take over like modaco has been doing lately.
So moderators and xda-developers crew stick your heads together WAKE UP and help this GREAT portal into the 21 century!!

As mentioned several times ago, the model selection is/was a special "hack" for the phpBB that only supports 2 types. Therefore there aren't any newer devices availabe since the beginning of the xda-developers.....
But hey, this is a great forum and you can get the most information about our devices here. So why stuck on such little things like model in the profile? :?:
Stefan
I'd agree with LumpiStefan- this forum is the best resource for our devices on the net, and if it means living without a little picture of our devices in our profile I'm not going to lose any sleep over it!
Yes I agree, however since there are more than just 2 models now, and the hack only supports two pics, then I think its better removed altogether. It might be a bit confusing for the newbies ;-)

[occupy nvidia]how you can help

First of all I'm no trying to troll nor spam, I am a T-mobile G2x user and over at the G2x forums we started a thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360051 this thread is to get nvidia to release the source code for the tegra 2 chip, this way we can get more stable roms and yes fully functional ICS build.
I'm only doing this because the Atrix uses the same tegra 2 chip, thanks for your understanding.
I sent mine!
http://developer.nvidia.com/contact
Just to let you know, Nvidia is in no way required to release drivers for their SoC. That stuff is completely proprietary and doesn't fall under the GPL.
i sent mine!
Submitted!
Occupy ?
Dont think so, we're not pirates. I've sent an email to nvidia.
Hello,
Please release source code for the Tegra2, so the developers can support our mobile devices and tablets better and faster. I want to take more advantage of the Tegra2 chip inside my Motorola Atrix 4g and hoping that you could give the community a hand about this.
Regards, Sinan.

We are all aware of this, but maybe with a shot of luck they decide to help developers, and release at least some code.
Even Microsoft has released some of their code to the GPL.

Also submitted. Regardless of what may come out of this, at least we tried.

I don't want to hijack the other thread. But I think the best action you can take is generate some publicity from the media.
Go to Engadget. http://www.engadget.com/
There should be a red 'Tip US' on the right hand side of the webpage. Let the problem get on the main page of Engadget.
Thank you/
Email sent.
Email sent - also if anyone is wondering what to say, here is what i sent to them...may not be perfect but it gets the job done:
Hello. I am writing today to ask that you please release the source code for the Tegra 2 chip to the public.
As you most likely know, the android os has a very large developer community. With this community comes ground breaking software development and can also make an already great product become an even bigger product.
An example would be Samsung hiring the lead developer of the CyanogenMod7 custom Rom for Android.
They also gave the team one of their latest devices for further testing.
Now that device is one of the most sold Android phones of 2011.
The Tegra chip has a following already because of the little bit of development that we have been able to squeeze out of it with out the help of Nvidia. (source code)
But we believe and know that we can develop upon it even further and show Nvidia and others what the Tegra is really capable of. Which in turn will bring more interest to the chip and devices that carry the chip and that just means more sales.
It is only a win-win situation.
Thank you for reading.
Sincerely
a Nvidia customer.
you guys are asking for specific stuff in a very generic matter. nvidia has a git hub with tons of stuff already! and im sure if you ask them for ics tegra2 drivers for the atrix or g2x they will deliver.
as for nvidia helping devs, its happend!

I agree with changing the title in case anyone from nvidia see the thread.
however, I would leave any sort of "occupy" verbiage out. due to the recent media coverage of everything "occupy" related, it's not entirely a positive way to bring about change to what we want as far as code.
it seems a tad bit brutish to use that word to request something at this point.
imo.

Speak for yourself lol.
Yeah, the thread title is a bad (polarizing) choice imho. I have enough trouble occupying my own space. And I certainly don't want to be seen in any sort of occupy movement. I work for what I have/want/need (and as an added bonus, to support the wants/needs of the occupiers, hurray for me!). But since the spirit of the thread isn't that sort of nonsense, I'm in. Message sent.
And no griping at me because I bit at the title... It was just sitting there staring at me with those "I want your stuff" and "Are you crazy? No I don't want to work for it" eyes...
Since I never do anything at work I will send them an email, spread this around, contact engadget, gizmodo, and more. I really want the ATRIX to become active. Its been dead around here a little.

Because posting links to an official unreleased OS like this is akin to piracy perhaps, you can debate the ethics side of this all you like and the fact that without CD keys and working cracks its not technically illegal but I think the spirit of the forums suggests that it should not be on here.
RTM released is interesting news, we don't need dodgy links to it however and it just opens the doors for other material that may be considered even less ethical but along similar lines.

Ok, then I will take off all the win8 links. But I think technically it isn't a finally product... But I don't want any problem... I will leave only a video and Apps to make bootable the ISO and to make bootable USB with an ISO.

RTM is about as final as it gets given that this is what OEMs receive to start pumping out computers left right and centre
Unless MS make this publically available then it is there property to do as they will, which means its not ours an we cant go posting it around
but hey, strike one Win for self moderation on a forum without starting a flame fest!
We all should pat ourselves on the back
First, this is a very gray area. The leaked version of win8 could be viewed as no different to a phone os such as win phone 7. Its the life blood of xda.
On the flip side, as a licenced product its warez, and is against xda rules..
I'll allow this thread to continue subject to certain rules as discussion only.
1/ no links to the leaked version.
2/ discussion is fine but no links to any cracks or cracked versions of the os.
I'll keep an eye on this and will close this if any breaches occur
Regards
Chris

Even though Microsoft probably isn't happy that these leaked before their official release... They're not illegal. Hacking the activation or using a key that's been obtained through illicit means however would make it illegal. Otherwise it's pretty much a 30 day trial OS.
don't be so sure, the content of the ISOs is their IP, unless its officially distributed its not technically legal as it wasn't given permission to be distributed oh and its completely un trustworthy from MS point of view too. That's why I said grey, because you are right as well, nothing has been stolen unless you crack it... But is that really stealing... Software laws don't easily fit in to todays world

Its not pirated warez. Actually that OS is readily available to download on Microsoft's internal servers. Anyone can download it if they work there.
What's next, links to office 2013 preview are gonna be pulled because its not official and you have to have an account with ms to download it.

Software piracy is the mislicensing, unauthorized reproduction and illegal distribution of software,
That paragraph was taken from microsofts own site. Clearly the OP does not have microsoft permission to distribute there software. Thus that makes it piracy and against forum rules.

Not seeing where it says distribution of RTM software sans crack or key is considered piracy. RTM doesnt even allow you to boot without a valid key at this point. No trial periods here. Perhaps you should see if the RIAA or the MPAA are hiring, you might find yourself more at home.

[HELP] Suggest an ANTI-virus/spyware package for win8 ?

Should i invest in an ANTI VIRUS package ? If so which ?Or is windows defender enough ?
PS: Am online most of the time and blogging is what i do most often ! Moving to Windows 8 from XP after my old P4 PC gave up last week . I do not want to take the trouble of re installing windows every time i find a bug
Don't know if its the right place to post this silly querry , if not please delete or move this !
thanks in advance !
thread requested to be moved sorry for posting in wrong section !
Moved to Windows 8 General.
Yes Windows Defender is MORE than enough. Keep it updated regularly with virus definitions. You won't need to shell out money to any other guy.
Once windows 8 overtakes 7 in market share people will be trying to make lots of viruses that specifically exploit holes in windows defender BUT it is updated every couple of hours so it should be fine in general.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk 2
Okay thanks for the replies guys! Guess I'd just stay with defender for now
I'd like to point this out:
Bitdefender has made it so that anyone that owns Bitdefender 2012 with an active license right now can upgrade their machines to Bitdefender 2013 since 2012 is not compatible with Win8.
I've done it. Works fine.

[Discussion] Windows Blue

This thread will serve for all discussions of windows blue. Everybody hoped for at least a gap of 3 years for a new operating system from Microsoft, but well, here's a leak that we saw.
Discussion:
1. Is this an entirely new OS? Or just a service pack upgrade on the existing windows 8?
2.more importantly, will this be a free upgrade to the existing customers? Chances are high since its not been long since Windows 8 gas been released to the general public.
3. Any links for extra info/videos/leaks. Post here!
Personally I am very excited about it. What are your views?
