Anyone have both S10+ and A70? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have an A70 but am considering getting an S10+. I'm curious how the screen width of the S10+ compares to the A70. I know based on specs the S10+ is narrower but, given the curved screen, I'm curious how the actual screen width compares between the two.
If someone has both, would you mind posting a picture showing the screen sizes compared? Maybe with them laying top to bottom?
Thanks in advance!

I don't have an A70. I do have the S10 and S10+ though. I can tell you, the S10+ is around the size of the Note 9. With a 6.4 inch screen, it's pretty massive even with a case on it.

Just wondering if anyone has any shots of the two devices side by side? I've been trying to find pics online, but no luck from Youtube or review articles.
Just want to get a sense of how those device look side by side (size wise)

the first shot is real life, it's 3 times the size of the Gnex. not sure why you were expecting it to be bigger. It's 7" not 10" not 13" it's 7 inches. The Gnex is a 4.6" screen. so it's only 2.4" bigger.
3 times the size is just right.

I am aware its only 2ish inch bigger. But I guess the huge bezel on the tablet gives the illusion that its even smaller.
Oh man its so much smaller than I thought...don't know why but I guess I pictured it at 8.5ish inches >_> THE BEZEL!!

S6 display discussion.

We all know that the Galaxy S6 will sport a QHD Super AMOLED display just like the Galaxy S5 LTE-A and Galaxy Note 4 before it. But the question remains, will this be the second generation of Super AMOLED QHD displays that they're employing? Meaning they would be more brighter, energy efficient and possibly color accurate over the ones in the S5/N4?
After all, they shrunk down the battery capacity for a thinner body and made it non-removable for a more premium unibody. So the optimization compensation has to come from somewhere, right? And between the Galaxy and Note releases, they've always improved on the display technology in some way. Let's all post updates as more information leaks over time.
Definitely will be much improved over S5, I think everything points to this being brand new tech, although the Note 4's screen was so exceptional that no one has complained of its quality, so even if the same one, it should be perfect. That said, I estill expected an updated panel since they had to make a new one to match the size anyway
I have Note 4. The screen is AMAZING. I don't know what could Samsung improve really.
It has a small problem though - it changes color very slightly at even the slightest angle, which might be the deal breaker for some (for me it's OK for a phone, would hate it on a TV though). It might be interesting to see if S6 has the same problem.

I'd like to see AMOLED screens hit at least 400 cm/nits of brightness when displaying content with 100% white average. Right now the best the Note 4 can do in that situation is 340 cm/nits. That's why I hope this S6 panel is an improvement and not just taken from the Note 4. Now that TouchWiz uses more white backgrounds, it won't be as energy efficient over the long term for having the display on and I certainly would like whites to look more white with better brightness on Average Picture Level

I'd take an AMOLED white over an LCD black any day.

AM I the only person who thought the Note 4's display looked somewhat grainy? That and I often found a few models to have pinkish screens.

They went from being inaccurately calibrated with yellow or green tints to being more proper on white point. They (QHD displays) display whites more accurately than most of the high-end LCD panels. The problem is, they don't look as good because they can't get very bright due to hardware limitations at the moment. AMOLED is still a premature technology that has improved tremendously in a few short years on the market, but more efficiency needs to be tuned in.
I prefer 1080p as all my videos are in that resolution. It's going to look worse upscaled in this. Also, not sure if eyes can even notice a difference on a phone call.

Short of pressing your face up against the screen and trying to look for flaws, it won't look any worse. 1080p is too many pixels for a 5" screen as it is. QHD is pure overkill.

My point is I prefee it to display videos at native resolution.
Then I guess the S6 isn't for you. Lucky there are other options that are FHD still.
Improve the white coulor its really bad.
People always think they can't do better but still, they always do, they always manage to find a way to improve the technology.
Colour accuracy on the S6 doesn't seem to be as good as the Note 4 but the maximum brightness on the S6 should be a lot brighter than N4 (Samsung claims max 600 nits).
This data is for the edge, but I would think the S6 would be similar.

I agree it could be, as well it could be that the testing application isn't compatible yet with the new hardware? Anyways I tested a similar application with my Nexus 6 and I get responsiveness right to the edge. I sure would like to know the application he was using. I would also like to see this test on the s6 edge as well. I'm hoping this isn't a major issue as I have pre-ordered both the s6 and s6 edge.

Worth upgrading from S7/Edge to S8/Plus

I've not seen this asked anywhere else but from what we know so far it doesn't seem worth it. We know the S8 has the same battery as the S7 & the S8+ has a smaller one than the Edge. We know the S7 & S8 have the same camera and Ram so apart from the chipset is it worth splashing out £799 & £899.............................I know I wont be

Tiny 5.5" screen vs 6.2" inch screen...absolutely worth it.
I cant wait to get rid of this s7 edge honestly for that reason.
it will be my new work phone where screensize isnt important.

Depends on how much the screen is worth to you. I'd imagine the performance, battery life, and camera will be about the same as the S7.

For most uses, the S8+ won't have a significantly larger (usable) screen area. It looks to be much the same as the S7 Edge screen, just with a bit added on the end for the on-screen keys, in place of the physical ones that have been removed. The size of the screen you can actually use will be similar to on the S7 Edge. Of course it will be much bigger in apps where the on screen keys are hidden (including, presumably, wider-than-16:9 video, and certainly for the Gear VR).

The screen much smaller than a typical 5.5 inch screen due to the edge design. When i put it up against other flat 5.5 inch devices even more noticable.
And a regular 5.5 inch screen is too small to begin with for my tastes
So for me yeah, tiny.

That would be true for the s8 but i dont believe so for the plus.
Wont know for sure until its in hand and side by side with my s7 edge of course.
Without reading any of this i say NO. Any money the S8 will have worse battery life. I'd be VERY surprised if it does better than the S7. Same camera... Stupid fingerprint sensor placement. It's a "notch" faster. The ONLY reason I'd be tempted it's that GORGEOUS bezel free screen. But that's it! The S7 screen still uses the same screen technology and is just as sexy.

You're right that we'd need to look at the real thing, but just for fun, using Pythagoras' Theorem (we know the S7 Edge is 5.5" with a ratio of 16:9, and the S8+ is 6.2" with a ratio of 18.5:9) gives the following sizes:
S7 edge screen: 122 x 68.5mm
S8+ screen: 142 x 68.9mm
How much room does the soft keys area use on a phone of that size? I'd say probably over 15mm, which brings the usable size fairly close to the S7 Edge.
I'm sure things don't work out exactly at those sizes, especially with the curved edges, but it's enough to make me doubt that the S8+ will be as big a gain as people are expecting. I'm looking forward to seeing one for real, though
nope will wait for note 8
I went from a Nexus6 to a S7 edge so the screen size was really apparent. Had to pull out the tablet again for some things.
I love the hardware of the S8+ but will wait for a new Note before I decide.
I don't feel enough has changed for me to get the S8 or the S8+. I'm disappointed that the FPS isn't underneath the glass, the batteries aren't bigger, and the microSD didn't get updated to the new UFS one announced last year.

The S8 has a sexy design, new soc but thats all about it...the camera is about the same as the S7 so thats not good, fingerprint positioning is terrible, and the price is way to high...Im honestly waiting for the Xiaomi MI6 but im also curious about the OnePlus4...lets wait and see..

Nah its already been confirmed that they will perform pretty much the same...i wouldnt even be surprised if it performs even worse...they already did something like that with the s7 which is worse then the s6 with sony sensor on good light conditions althought the s7 beats the s6 on low light...
Or how about waiting for the Note 8
3500 mAh battery for 6.2 inch screen might not be enough.

Decision Decision!! Need help

I am still deciding on which one to buy s8 or s8 plus.
Do you guys think s8+ is going to be too big and awkward to use? Especially the fingerprint scanner on the back
BTW I am using S7 edge and it's perfect
I'm getting the plus and I'm going to mainly use the iris scanner instead of the fingerprint

If you have never use a Nexus 6P or something similar in size, you will find it huge !
I personally own a 6P and can't go under 5.7'' . S8+ screen is welcomed !
I own a S7 edge and I'll pre-order the S8. It's almost the same size as the S7e, so if you think it's perfect you should buy the 5.8 inches Galaxy S8
fyi S8+ has slightly better and bigger battery

Upgrading from the Nexus6p to the S8+ ftw...
S8+ because of the bigger battery and screen
From S7E to S8+ !
Apparently, the S8+ is more or less the same size that Iphone 7 plus...
I'm getting the 8+ purely for the larger battery, but based on the dimensions, I don't think size will be too much of a problem, compared to other phablet phones out there. The only awkwardness may come from the taller display - definitely not the width.
Can anyone find a size comparison or video review between the S8/S8+ with the nexus 6p?
I preordered the S8+ and after playing with it in store, I cancelled my preorder and got the normal S8. I hate the size of the iPhone 7 Plus and the S8+ is just a little more narrow, but still girthy to me. Granted I don't have massive hands and could probably live with the S8+, but the S8 just felt so comfortable. I have a G6 and a Pixel currently and I highly recommend the normal S8 if you're used to a smaller device.
I went to Best buy yesterday and held both, the s8+ didn't feel so big that it was unweildly, but nonetheless it was still a big phone, the s8 felt pretty perfect especially if you like the size of the s7e, but I cancelled my preorder for the s8+ and will wait to see battery life reviews, I'm hoping s8 will be on par with s8+
I also went and looked at both today, and purchased regular s8. s8+ was too tall.
I am now going to bestbuy as well. Will see how each model feels and then will pre-order .
Anything you want me to check guys??

go to phonearena.com and check out their size comparison feature....you can calibrate your screen based on your current phone and it will give you the option to generate an overlap or side by side comparison. This is the best way to figure out if you like the size as this is going to be the actual size of the phone and not just an eyeballed guess

There is no difference between two except size and battery. Battery wise you won't see much difference because of the screen size. So if you want bigger phone go with S8+ else you know what to get.
Personal, I got S8 for myself. Should be easy to carry in pocket as well.

Because the only differences between the S8 and S8+ are the screen and battery sizes (5.8," 3000mAh vs 6.2," 3500mAh) it comes down to personal preference. Like other people have said, the S8 is slightly shorter and narrower than the S7 Edge, while the S8+ is slightly narrower and taller than the S7 Edge, so either version should be find.
Personally, if you have smaller hands (like I do) and/or already struggling with the size of the S7 Edge, then go with the S8. If possible, go to a Best Buy and check out both versions there in their Samsung section. Feeling them in hand will prove to be MUCH more helpful, than anyone's 2 cents on the matter. That's what helped me figure out what color and version of the S8 I wanted to pre-order.
Just saying, even with smaller hands, I didn't have much issue with the larger variant. Heck, took me literally an hour to actually do the pre-order because I had trouble making up mind on which size, haha. XD That, and if you do have a Best Buy near you, do the pre-order there as you can save $50 on the S8, $100 on the S8+. Unless you plan on buying it outright, because you won't get the discount, at least that's what I can tell on their site.

Question for S7Edge users that went to S8

Currently on S7Edge but really interested in the s8, i tried it in the store just for a few moments but couldnt really compare how it feels in the hand because all the phones at T mobile are attached with security clamp wires.
So for people who went from s7 edge to S8, how is the feel in the hand, it is narrower so i guess it feels smaller, but it is taller. is it hard to reach up top with one hand?
also how is media consumption (youtube, netflix, hboGo, etc) on this aspect ratio compared to s7? because it is narrower and taller you will have black bars on the sides. It is something i deal with at my desktop computer because I have ultrawide monitor so when i watch movies or youtube i have black bars on the sides. I have come to deal with it though. Does it bother you with the s8? also have you had trouble finding slim cases ad good screen protectors? it was always tough for me with s7 edge

1) It feels fantastic! I can't tell you how much I like holding S8 vs other phone(unless phone is small) I bought case and even with case it is far more manageable than other big boys. It maybe slightly taller, but it doesn't bother me at all, as the width was the main issue with others.
2) Most apps can use full screen and YouTube for example isn't a problem. There is a button to change the screen width. When you start playing videos, a lot of times it adopts to the screen size.
3) Spigen Liquid Armor case on Amazon, very slim and doesn't add bulk and still holding and typing with one hand is great(I don't have big hands)
4) I like matter screen protectors, which I purchased on Amazon for 8.99 (2 pack) case friendly protector.

Yeah wow that's not bad at all
Can anyone who made the change from an S7 Edge to the S8 comment on the battery life difference?
The battery life on this blows my S7E away! Smaller battery but whatever they did to help the life is great!
Also, the curve on these isn't as aggressive as the S7E so it doesn't feel as narrow and hard to hold. I have no issues reaching anything on screen and the way i hold it my finger rests perfectly on the sensor on the back to unlock it or sign into apps!
I haven't had any problem finding a case that i like either.
