Fota possible on rooted device stock rom? - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

My device is on 337 firmware, with bootloader unlocked and magisk flashed.
However I still received an ota update. Is this possible? Is it safe to download and install this and future ota updates normally even with the bootloader unlocked and rooted?
Check screenshots below.

tried installing Pixel experience in my asus zenfone max pro m1 .all was good except 1 thing that Vodafone LTE service of india is either not working in it and only wcdma or 3g is working. But there is no issue with reliance jio LTE data connection.Second issue is the audio profile automatically changes to vibration mode from ringtone mode.now whenever it happens and an incoming call comes i am not able to know that the phone is ringing.i tried many times to reset it but the Audio profile automatically goes into vibration mode

how?
i need this rom, im so annoyed with the phone, biggest issue for me is the gps, can anyone confirm if it fixes the issues?
if so whats the dangers of loading the rom (i dont know how) and will it invalidate my warranty

Although I've had no issues with my GPS, my brother (whom I recommended the phone too) does have issues. The GPS was all over the place tbh.
As a temporary fix he installed GPS Status & Toolbox (from Playstore) and it kinda stabilises his GPS, must admit it does seem to be much better for him now, well atleast usable.
Maybe worth a try until Elephone get their finger out & release this as an actual update on the phone itself, my brother is just using Stock Rom (the latest update 20160608) and he ain't exactly techy minded like me as I've rooted mine etc. So I can understand your frustration.
The problem I see with Elephone (as much as I love my P9000) is that they too quickly move onto the next model and any support (well if Elephone support ever existed in the first place lol) stops for the "last model" .
As regards to "warranty" - personally for me I dont care whether it voids it or not rooting etc .. but I doubt it would. And anyway, the support Elephone would probably offer would be so "awful" (I would imgine from what I read up on them) that probably going out and buying another handset would be less frustrating in the long run ;0)
I'm going to update my P9000 now to check this update out, more to see if battery optimisation is any better for my handset.
Edit: Sorry I noticed you stated you didn't know how to root & install customer recovery (TWRP), basically first follow steps here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/elephone-p9000/how-to/how-to-root-stock-rom-t3396908
You can then update via TWRP recovery to the 20160715 by using the flashable zip file found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ele...rom-stock-rom-elephone-p9000android6-t3400608
Hope it helps ;0)
Thanks
Thanks for the help, I have already tried the gps status app which has made no difference with the phone laying flat on the worktop the compass is never still, but is this a sensor issue rather than a GPS issue, I'm not sure
I reccomended the p9000 to my partner, her GPS is terrible as well, but she bought hers from amazon, so we could probably return hers without an issue, mine came from eBay......
I tried to install twrp but I can't get it to work, fast boot reports boot loader not unlocked or similar even though I have enabled this in developer options, can't do it inside fast boot either becuase volume up button doesn't work.
Thanks for help

I contacted with Elephone support a few days ago about some questions , one of them next update and this is what they said.....
"Cant confirm at present ,please wait with patience .
Best regards,
Teresa"
I think That's not a regular update from Elephone.
Just my feelings....
Very nice OTA
Yup..now available via ota
I tried the wireless update and it didn't work. Retrying now but here's what happened:
Phone powered off showing Elephone logo first
Powered back on showing elephone logo
The update.zip is corrupted.
Installation aborted.
OTA failed! Please power off the device to keep it in this state and file a bug report!
Just tried it again, same exact thing.

Impressed by P9000, except the GPS.
Just updated OTA to Elephone_P9000_20160715. It does say it has a GPS fix, hope so because apart from that I do like the phone.
I have found that using "HERE" instead of Google maps everything stays on route (Most of the time) I will try the phone Google maps now and see if it has improved.

I just got the same error in the Recovery Mode stating the update.zip is corrupted. I remembered this issure from a previus OTA update and solved it by removing my SD card and putting my SIM card in slot 1. After that the OTA update ran through perfectly. I hope this helps! :good:
EDIT: I found another yet easier solution in a German forum. [Unfortunately I am a too new user in this forum to post a link. So you have to live without a source]. Summoned up: Go to preferences > Storage & USB and remove the SD card by tapping the "eject" symbol. After the update, do not forget to set your SD card as the standard storage again.

Thanks it works
have someone issues with BT on 20160715?
This has been released as OTA, and installed fine on my P9000. Remember - switch both sims off, in settings, before downloading, and make sure you keep the screen on whilst downloading. Also good idea to delete a few fingerprints, just in case the fingerprint problem comes back.
So far no problems, but no AndroidPay as the phone stills fails the SafetyNet API call.
Honestly I'm a bit surprised that Elephone are sill updating this phone, delighted, but surprised. Well done, Elephone! But please, if you can, get the AndriodPay working?
W.
is this rom also flashable on P9000 lite ?
Nice home screen update, swiping all the way across brings you back to the start again
Fast charging still not restored for me.

Vibration not working after downgrade from nougat. How to fix please?

Hi people, i think the title is self explanatory. I downgraded from nougat to marshmallow and now vibration is not working, instead it makes a low beep.
Can anyone relate how to fix this please?
i googled but didn't find any solution apart from factory reset. I can confirm this is not a hardware prob because phone vibrates in twrp.
Thanks in advance.
You have to flash mm bootloader & modem in odin, then it works again.
also i downgrade my s7 edge and i lose vibration. i try to re-odyn everything from 6.0.1 but nothing! anyone can help?
Here's the solution!
Temporarily upgrade to Android 7 to fix the vibration issue then use odin to flash final version of android 6.0.1. You must flash all 4 files contained in the extracted (unzipped) firmware package but ignore the home_CSC file. IMPORTANT...tick the option in odin "phone bootloader update". This process will wipe all data on the phone full but will give you a fully functioning galaxy s7 with Android 6.0.1 marshmallow!:good:
But without home_csc you have no csc.... is there straight guide for this process? I also downgraded to 6.01 but have no vibration at all.
I'm in the same situation, after downgrading from Nougat to Marshmallow, I lose fingerprint functionality. If I upgrade back to any Nougat firmware then fingerprint starts working again. When I go to *#2663#, I get the Fingerprint Initializing Fail error. I'm going to try the Phone Bootloader Update method to downgrade.

That didn't work, still getting the same error message with Fingerprint not working "An error has occurred with the Fingerprint Sensor".

N910C factory upgrade forced bootloop, help

Hi there
I updated today from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 through the settings, and it got stuck in boot loop.
I managed to get a custom ROM on but now I cannot make calls or sms messages. I can still use my wifi though.
I'm in Australia, model N910C .
I cannot seem to find any factory firmwares, my googlefu appears to be lacking this time.
Can someone please point me in the right direction of a fix?
My computer is being a stooge and won't connect me with ODIN, but I've come across FlashFire and might be able to use one of the computers at work.
Thanks
I managed to use a rubbish work computer to connect to Odin and flash stock 5.1.1, root and recovery. Back to square one

Marshmallow 6.0 OTA update files + how to disable update message

I am reposting the links here as they are a bit lost in the middle of the Marshmallow thread. These are useful if the Yota Devices server is slow or if you want to hack around.

If you encounter the "system update" message coming back all the time after update, you can try this if you have rooted your phone:
Connect using "adb shell" or use a terminal on your phone like ConnectBot and type:
Code:
su
pm clear com.symphonyteleca.update
pm disable com.symphonyteleca.update
pm clear com.symphonyteleca.updateservice
pm disable com.symphonyteleca.updateservice
If you don't have root, use NoRoot Firewall to block system updates (Android System). You will also need to disable data and wifi (or enable airplane mode) before shutting down your phone, and re-enable them after startup when NoRoot firewall is active, as the system updates can make a request BEFORE NoRoot Firewall is enabled on system startup. See https://forum.xda-developers.com/yo...ng-update-message-upgrading-to-t3652774/page3
why the mx at the end of the filename?
No idea, it's just the name provided by the Yota server.

I've saw an specific post on Yota Facebook page about this subject, and people sent his IMEIs to stops the update message to apear in his phones.
Doesn't work for me
Just FYI, upgrading from 5.0.0 - EU1.1.124b didn't work for me. The OTA upload repeatedly failed half way through and the TWRP package using the method suggested here also hung on the 'Android' screen. Only way to recover it was to reflash back to 5.0.0 again - three attempts, none worked.
Bit of a shame, have sent my IMEI to Russia in the hope that they can turn off the upgrade messages and I'll have to stick with verson 5.0.0..... R.I.P. Yotaphone

I had problems installing 6.0 too and after some time the constant every day update notification became real pain in the.. Luckily I had my phone rooted and Titanium backup could freeze the update processes (don't remember which ones, look for something system-like with "update" in its name).
PS. To get the Marshmallow I had to use the unofficial Lineage rom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/yotaphone-one/development/lineageos-tested-kindoff-t3640851) - works quite well but lack the EPD support so be sure you leave there some nice wallpaper before switching.
Hi, first of all, thanks for sharing the files.
It helped me a lot to update my gf phone from Ru to Eu as i updated it from lollipop to marshmallow by flashing the Ru build some time ago.
As she was pissed off by some yota apps in russian, i flashed your build so that she get's back Eu (french).
But there's a strange thing, Yotasports seems to have disappeared, and she can't install it through playstore, says device not compatible, so if anyone has the apk from an EU build (even lollipop maybe ?) i'd be very grateful, thanks !

NXT-L29 EUROPE ROM. Please Help.

Hi guys having a total nightmare trying to update my mate 8, i have the bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed, this is after one week of reading threads and watching video tutorials, i am stuck on EMUI 4 and the build number is NXT -L29C636B103 I would like to update it to Nougat. I have downloaded update. zip and update full hw eu zip and placed them in the dload folder i created but when i try to flash these, i get Error 7, i also tried wiping, system/cache/data in TWRP but the same thing happened Error 7. I am really besides myself now and so fed up any help would be greatly appreciated. My phone was bought from china and i believe the Europe rom is installed.
No L29C636B103 rom is Asian rom....
---------- Post added at 10:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:07 PM ----------
L29C432B*** is European rom... Letest European rom is L29C432B581 on firmware finder app....
Hi thank you for replying, i tried firmware finder but i seem to have an additional tab to fill in as the connect button stays greyed out with only putting in localhost and 8080, any ideas on what i need to enter.
Tried using firmare finder but the system updater still does not see the updates which have downloaded, there are 2 files in one folder and one file in another, does anyone know how to move forward with this, thank you.
Update tried flashing update.zip and update1.zip but still get Error 7, do you think this is because my installed rom is Asian region.

First get the firmware approved through FF for "Get the firmware through DNS".....
Then you dont have anything to do with Proxy. Just open IP Settings, check on "Static" and put DNS 1 and DNS 2 as 81.177.139.39......click save.
Open Updater and look for update. You will get it for sure if the firmware is already approved for flashing .
Start downloading. Midway, you may pause, change your WIFI again to normal and start again else you may see "Server not available now" notice at the end when ready to flash after 100% download.
Done.
Will give this a try, thank you so much.
It gets as far as rebooting into TWRP after downloading updates but goes no further, should i manually install the updates one at a time within TWRP, thanks.
No twrp.... You need to be on stock recovery... Flash that first...
---------- Post added at 02:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:54 PM ----------
You got rest all right now...
Thought i was just about with joy until it booted back into stock recovery, the update started but failed saying the update failed because it could not verify the update, i checked the compatability with Imei and said was ok, do you think it maybe due to going from B103 straight upto B589, i am at a total loss at what to try next, thanks.
May be...I flashed on top of B330...try with any higher versions of emui 4 or 4.1....oh ...wait....
You need to flash B562 first...
Managed to update to B330 on EMUI 4.1, have tried B585 and B589 but failed both of them, I noticed there is no B562 in the firmware finder list, there is also 2 versions of each update do you download both or just the FullOTA update thanks.
Cannot thank Apat26 enough for all your help, even though B562 was not showing in the firmware finder list, I had a quick look in the system updater and B563 was there so updated that version and then went on to update to the latest B589, om EMUI 5.0.1, so well happy with the overall result.
