Be respectful towards everyone, if someone doesn't know something you can tell them about that no need to humiliate or belittle someone.

How about people just keep their mouths shut ? Or do something *useful* vs just complaining.
Had to sell my Phone on ebay. Sorry Guys! its selling at this moment!

So I imagine that even though the other thread has been closed, once the devs achieve root, you guys will let us know here at xda correct.
The other threads are full of a bunch of dumb a$$ people that just want to complain that someone else hasn't rooted their phone yet. Here is a thread that was made for them to come and yap their face and they say nothing.
I find this thread to be ridiculous (yet quite funny)!! I have been a part of "the community" for a very long time and I have never ONCE seen so many damn people complain that something wasn't getting done! Seriously People!! If you want root so damn bad I have 2 suggestions for you, DO IT YOURSELF or go buy a new phone, which ever you choose, shut your face unless you have something productive to say! (hey the title of this thread says rant so that is what I am doing )
Anyway, if anyone ever figures out root on this bad boy I will be grateful, if I ever have anything to offer I will be helpful, and I will otherwise keep my mouth shut. Thanks Everyone, especially the Dev team and the morons that inspired this rant.
btw, I'm pretty sure I blocked over half of these morons from different sites over the years for similar behavior
I want to tell Verizon what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, ****less, hopeless, heartless, fat-***, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey **** they are. QFT! People and their EXPECTATION of root. Way to ruin it for everyone

2.1 leak OFFICIAL root status thread.

Since nobody else has created this thread, thought it might be a good idea to have this 1 around.
Lets get this thing rooted
Edit:: Devs working on the 2.1 Leak root, please contact me via PM. It would be great to know who all is working hard on this
BTW, JCASE is AMAZING.
I believe the individual responsible for rooting the Legend is coming back from vacation tomorrow (IF the big ass ash cloud permits flying again), and there might be a chance it can be replicated onto the ERIS. So yeah, it's a good idea to put it all in one area.
I hope it can but im not holding my breath.

If they did its because of ungrateful people like you.
Most of the devs dont have Eris' anymore let alone an Eris with leaked 2.1 to test with. Te guy who rooted the desire/legend in one fell swoop was notified and has shown interest in helping. So keep your pants on, if you have 2.1 leak its your own fault for jumping the gun.
For the record I jumped the gun too, but acquired a new Eris which is now rooted.
Sometimes minor frustration sounds ungrateful. I'm pretty sure what was being commented on was the fact that no devs addressed the subject. And, I bet the OP'er was really just trying to get the subject back up in the first page.
My conscience won't let me turn in my Eris for a mistake I made. The rest of the folks who can't or won't turn their phones in for replacement are having to hope for the best, same as me and the OP'er.
Nothing personal, meant here (more like an implied question) but I find myself curious about why someone who's already rooted, and is not apparently a dev is even reading this thread..

*sigh* I hear ya. Your gripe is totally valid. Sorry if I sounded like a jerk.
As someone in the same position as anom69, I was glad to see this thread started.. if nothing else, then to toss out a line and see whether anybody was still plying at it.. I keep picturing the "real" hackers not bothering with the cheap/free/not-so-impressively-spec'd Eris and getting, instead, (what they might term) "real" phones.. basically echoing what you stated earlier..
The story of Legend-rooter dude sounds promising. It'd be awesome of it turns into something.
It's more like "geez i can't stand to hear these people whine, maybe I will get an iphone instead".
or a motodroid.
It was kinda annoying seeing a signature that says I have root, but I'm not going to share it too. Like, why be a d!ck if you figured it out? If you don't want to share it or be bugged, don't say anything.
I do tutorials and write-ups for a truck forum. If I didn't want people PM'ing me, emailing me, or asking questions in forums all the time I wouldn't have done them in the first place. Seems simple enough: don't want attention then keep your head down.
If someone is running leak version one and doesnt mind taking a chance, come hit me up on irc.wastate.net #droideris

Okay, so your going to let one dude ruin the work that would help loads of people like me???? Personally, I'm amazed at the work all the devs put into these forums and thankful.
since I have started coming here for all my information on rooting and whatnot I have noticed one major theme that pops up over and over, there are a few devs here with a holier than thou attitude, if you are doing this for fun and nonprofit as you claim to, then deal with us noobs who can't do this stuff on our own, you cry and whine when someone asks a question, like we are intruding on your personal space, we only ask because we don't know how to do this ourselves and are kinda stuck sitting watching and waiting, and when all we see are threads about new roms and such for rooted users, it kinda leaves us wondering, what about me, yes you are right we jumped the gun with installing the leak, but who told us it was ok, it was you guys, we aces our trust in you devs because we trust what you have to say, leaving is now high and dry because everyone jumped ship and got a replacement phone or a Droid or whatever, so doors that make us the bad guys because we want to know, what about us?
and a second thing, I've read a couple threads where devs are kinda claiming responsibility for obtaining root, but when in reality, while it was "obtained", it was not done so in a legal, nor reproducable manner, as I heard someone hacked HTC and found a prerooted file, so while we do hold the devs in high reguard for being able to do what we cannot, please do not be so full of yourselves and forget that you are human just like us
sorry for the rant, but getting tired of some things around here
and also, not everything here applies to all the devs, but I won't name names here

Root Exploit Has Been Found. DO NOT UPDATE FURTHER

From the Android forums:
Root Exploit Has Been Found. DO NOT UPDATE FURTHER
So a new exploit has been discovered and devs are working on it.
What this means to you.
1. This WILL help for those who leaked to get root.
2. DO NOT UPDATE! This includes to the OTA when it is released.
3. Be patient, this was only discovered today and is only a possible exploit.

Forum rules, please read!
There seems to be a significant amount of animosity of late in the Android related forums. I'm not certain as to why this is, nor do I want to hear any reason for justification; what I do know is that it is unacceptable.
XDA is about bringing together folks who have similar passions about mobile technology. As the forum is accessed worldwide, you will encounter all types of folks from different walks of life; some of these folks will be extremely technical, others not. In all cases, it is the responsibility of all members to remain respectful of one another. We all have different opinions, we do not all have the same level of knowledge, and some folks are looking to feel like they are learning while trying to contribute.
Show maturity and professionalism by responding with helpful and constructive information. There is absolutely no reason to respond in a rude tone or to make someone feel stupid ... it is not constructive and serves no purpose.
I would remind members that the best moderation is self-moderation.

I'm a noob, so sorry in advance...

I just rooted my phone (thank you xda for making it super easy!) however, now I'm a little freaked out about what I've done.
I basically rooted so that my phone is speedier. I have no idea, in the area of ROMs or customizing, what else rooting can do. I'm not asking for help in doing those things, because like I said, I just want my phone to be speedy.
But now I'm a tad worried (due to a "beware" response I received on another forum) that I've opened up a portal for someone to access my accounts, contacts, etc. through apps on the phone. Sorry if I sound like a complete idiot, but in this arena, I suppose I am!
I just want to make sure that having the Super User permissions that I didn't just open an security threat that I'm not equipped to deal with.
Thanks for any help or suggestions (even if your suggestion is to unroot). Like I said, please go easy on me...I have no idea what I'm doing, lol.
i dont think rooting/superuser give any access to threats that you were not already exposed to.
someone please correct me if im wrong.
as far as what to do now with root, there is a sticky here in general with things to do with root. we are wating for Roms

You are correct.
Ignore the ignorant.
You have root = you have power. You control what your phone does. Don't download apps asking for permissions they should not need... you asked a good question so Im not worried about you being an idiot... just dont be stupid.
That said, take advantage of root. I put my suggestions in the sticky at the top.
Thank you. I will be sure to read the sticky...
I don't think I'm an idiot, just not very savvy with Android. Yet.
I am very diligent as far as doing my research, but this is a tough subject as 1/2 the information I find says one thing, and the other 1/2 contradicts it.
I'm truly not ignorant, or at least I'm attempting not to be, as I have read up on this. I just don't know what to do with the conflicting information.
root does not inherently open you to security threats.
but you said you 'rooted' to make the phone speedier, so did you just root, which has really no effect on speed or did you do a lag fix? the lag fixes won't cause a security problem, but from what i understand, ext2 will corrupt over time so that's not 'safe'. i think some of the lag fixes check for this, but there are so many now, i stopped keeping up on them.
if you just did root and remove some stock bloat, then don't worry. just actually read everything you do from the dev community and apps, and ask questions if you are unsure and you should be fine. definitely check out the sticky, though. lots of great stuff there.

I did do the lag fix too, but I don't think it was the ext2 one. I could be wrong though (and probably am). I found it here, RyanZa's One Click Lag Fix APK.
So you think it's something I should uninstall now, or just be aware of the issues with it for the future? (Sorry, again, if that's a ridiculous question. I honestly just thought that was part of rooting.)

Ya rooting(gaining root access) really has nothing much to do with making the phone speedy especially on Vibrant right now. An average user shouldn't even feel the need to root the phone.
The article that you have seen is most likely to clear the misconception of rooting is necessary for all Android phones.
I used the one that the link ends in 760571 (sorry, since I'm a noob I'm not able to post links yet)

I'm totally the average user but I knew I had to root to speed things up a bit with the lag fix. I would unroot and undo the lag fix, since I'm obviously in WAY over my head (lol), but I'm just as scared to do that as I was to root in the first place!

I have it temporarily rooted, it loses root upon reboot, please wait until I can get a script working. I have been granted temporary root via camera. Just because someone has 4 posts, and not known DOES NOT mean they are not capable of rooting a device. You are so quick to shoot someone down, if it is a fake, let it be, we don't need to here this comment every time someone claims to have found something... This forum is a discussion for who those who are interested in experimenting with their devices, no need for trolling just because someone has 4 posts and hasn't posted screenshots. If I were to discover a potential rooting vulnerability, I would not be posting screenshots, and I definitely wouldn't have the posts.

So a few replies:
1. Deep down, yes we do. Whether you want to admit to the truth is another story.
2. Maybe get your facts straight on my business - let me enlighten you: Never had the Turbo. I'm smart enough to not buy a phone that is so locked down when I want a phone with root and/or an unlocked bootloader. If (not when) that ever happens I'll consider getting it, but chances are the '15 models are going to be out by then and the Turbo will be considered "an older phone". Right now I'm just following along on the (lack of) progress with rooting and keeping everyone in check with reality (or "trolling", if that's how you want to put it).
3. Unrelated since it isn't happening with this guy. I'd bet money he goes away just like the "VZW security rep" did in the bounty thread. I'd give you the link to his area in that thread if you don't remember him, but I'm not sifting through all the bs posted over there to find the exact location.

Now you know the truth, in case it comes up again why I'm still floating through these (ridiculous) root / bounty threads.

Lol, maybe, but seems an appropriate response for someone going on a rant, wanting really hard to believe that this guy ACTUALLY temp rooted this phone after I called the "rooter" out on his bs. Screenshots, images, pics of the whole phone, something would be better than just "Hey guess what, I rooted it."
Don't get me wrong, I'm not voting against the phone being rooted eventually. I'm just less inclined to creme all over my keyboard without some sort of believable hard evidence.
