Where's the promised regular updates?? - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

Isn't this an android one device which was supposed to get regular updates? My phone is still on the FEBRUARY SECURITY update..
What kind of jerks are working in ASUS???

1st. We are not on android one zone
2nd. There is March 2019 security update

Not that I'm not annoyed at the lack of updates - Pie still isn't pushed to Taiwan and not even Oreo is updated now - but it takes a jerk to call someone a jerk, huh?

Really? I'm on the latest oreo, build .340, and have february 2019 patch. The Pie rom are not for global for now. Do you received an update after .340, that is not the beta pie or the first pie released (.050) only for india?

really?are u still believe it??its first time u use asus phone?this not first time they lie to us.

honestly speaking, am i the only one who thinks developers on xda are better than asus developers ? oh yes ofc xda devs are better undoubtedly.
coming to updates part you see its a stock android and still it is taking so long for asus to fix it and update properly and on the other hand we have color and miui os which inspite of being completely custom already are updated to pie and that too with no major bugs whatsoever. not to ignore the fact that miui and color os both are very heavily modified.
Also the fact that nokia, motorola, realme, redmi have already updated almost all their eligible (promised) devices to pie months back if i am correct so where is asus in all of this no where near.
tbh asus is kicking of itself and if all you wanted to do was push the beta as stable after a month then should have done that the same day inspite of making a fake promise coz a fake promise hurts more than a bitter and sad truth
EDIT: i know its not an android one device but come on afterall its completely stock not like miui or color os to take time. instead if redmi and realme goes onto this kind of delay its understandable but not when it comes to stock. i still remember motorola before lenevo took it was always the first to update their devices to new android after google why ? simple coz motorola was using stock android

May be, being irregular is regular for Asus.

Android pie os full of bugs , Câmera APP dosent work some time Nerf to close and Open again to take pictures.... ONLY solution for now is Google câmera...

First, the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 is not the part of Android One Program. And second, there is a Stable Pie version made available by Asus and with much latest Security Patch Level.

The pie update is full of bugs and what's the point of applying a update if it will hamper your user experience.
Asus sucks and they don't even give any information of further updates now.

Will huawei upgrade it to Marshmallow??

Was wondering if Huawei has announced that they will upgrade Honor 7 to marshmallow. I have never used any Huawei device and am interested in Honor 7 so want to know how is Huawei in terms of SW upgrades etc. Does anyone in here has any experience of previous Huawei devices. I am really keen to know this as ROM development and SW upgrades are probably the most important aspects of a device's future.
Yes all Huawei flagships will get updated, while non flaships will get at lesser priority as well..
But they won't release as quick.. Rather depending on stability of the new android itself the update will delay and they will release it timed with release of their next flagship. So somewhere from January 2016 to May 2016.. That said, since Huawei is manufacturing this year's nexus things might be different.
As Warea said, we'll have the update.
I think google is going to surprise us with this new Android version, doing a global release for a lot of devices on Day 1.
Rumor says that Samsung has already the update ready for S6/S6Edge/Note4, .... And LG too. It's possible that this year, Google worked with manufacturers to make a global release for Android M because one of the things that Apple users are proud of is that every iOS device is updated at the same time with the same version. I think Google wants to fix that with Android.
We'll see !
is possible, but i doubt it, because on every android version, huawei must include emui new version, and they're veeeery slow making updates . honor 6 waiting lollipop yet in european version, and android m launches at end of this month...
no news yet on android 6, but the chinese editions of honor 7 are getting android 5.1 beta tests. http://cn.club.vmall.com/thread-4989272-1-1.html

If you look at last year most of phone brands were quick to announce upgrades to lollipop but they delivered only 2nd quarter of this year, while the few who updated quick were left with lollipop bugs.
I'm in no hurry to android 6 because many of the features are already on emui.. So I rather prefer a properly optimized and bug free update, plus significant changes on emui enough to make it feel like an update.
Honor 6
Let's look at the good, the bad and the horrible worst..
The GOOD -
good built up design and hardware
At good price...
Awesome high end specs
Smooth working never lags
Charges superfast..
It's been a year to own a huawei honor 6 and it's still the same as newly purchased.. Quite happy with the product and fully satisfied And I'm upgrading to honor seven.. Just go for it. N its the best available in the market at this stage
The BAD-
-NO SOFTWARE UPDATES needs some improvements in software but no updates provided in India secondly no OTA updates you need to stress yourself to know how exactly to download and install softwares.
-Delayed updates... We hear Google talking about Marshmallow where as lollipop is on the verge and honor devices still running on kitkat.. Yes, lollipop updates were provided to download and install but manually and bro it's time for marshmallow and we here were dying to receive lollipop (stable) yet..
-Indian versions are not provided with the features available to Chinese versions.. Not 64gb storage available no dual Sim available
-Cloud storage available only in China
For honor 7 I guess marshmallow would be available in next year Q1
The horrible WORST -
It's not at all a loyal brand
I can purely tag Huawei as "use and throw" device because,
-WORST customer service support
If anything happens to the device after purchasing it... You just need to dump it in the garbage bin (service centre) without having a hope of recycle and getting it back so just forget the past and look for a new one..
So if you wanna avoid such circumstances you got to handle with care
Else it works great smooth efficient.. User friendly... Great specs and awesome built..
So if you are a person frequently updating your handset go for it.. But if you are a long term user suggest you to go for some good branded devices..
Just my opinion.. And no offence meant.. Sorryyyy
My newsfeed showed me following page.

don´t know how credible this is and whether it also affects the other H7 versions.

What I feel is.. It's pointless in waiting for M update because it's skin emui 3.0 takes it all over the material design and I feel emui is awesome if they keep updating emui..
The lollipop update in honor 6 didn't have much change as the design would remain emui..

Sorry sir It may be nonsense for people having technical knowledge
And I'm sorry but I forgot to mention earlier that all the firmware updates were never officially by Huawei for "h60 L04" model (Indian variant) if you check out the official website of honor India there are no updates but when you check updates for Chinese model then you will find many software updates on their official site for honor 6 but none of them would end with model "h60 L04"
So on that part I told that there are no updates
Honor confirmed on twitter that the Honor 7 will be updated to 6.0 in Q1 2016.
Date not confirmed for the 6+.

PLK-XX is Honor 7 where XX stands for different regional versions. It's the same with P8, the EU version (L01) is not on the list, probably because this list is not intended for European readers!

I've put my name down (via Honor's PR agency), and once you give your IMEI you'll be sent an OTA update automatically once it's ready. I'll let you all know the progress, but believe there will be a requirement NOT to share the code with others so please don't ask me to extract the files and release the ROM.
Of course, I'm sure someone will...

Yeah. Android N is neat. It has a few flaws, like battery consumption (or maybe just the device having small battery), but it would be great if they do uograde to O. O has the treble platform that can help asus because they don't need to constantly update the device for the sake of getting new android versions, unless they need to tweak something with their device configuration and such
Thats not the question.
"any of you think that CyanogenMod will give us android O?*
I dont expect anything from asus at the moment. They are so slow when it comes to firmware updates
Of course not, there's no doubt about it. Theres absolutely no chance to Asus give us Android O.
Have in mind that you need a Zenfone 4 for it.
Confirmed. The Zenfone 3 will get android O!!!! See attached screenshot
Yep, ASUS just confirmed it. Guess I'll be keeping my ZF3 for a little while longer.

I am surprised by that announcement from ASUS. Great news.
If there will be an update, it'll come way too late. I like that ASUS is constantly updating the security patches on this phone, but I'd prefer major Android updates too. Also I hope they work out all the other issues that came with Nougat in Oreo (if we ever get it), like bad audio quality.
It's gotta be far better than the buggy version we're currently on.

Software wise, Asus has not been the best, but recently, they have been making strides in providing patches. If they do release O, they may have a simpler time due to project treble, making os updates a different layer than oem updates. We'll just have to wait and see I guess

Coz It's been 1 year 1 month since the device was launched, You can expect Update to come once in two months or more, Asus have more and latest devices to focus on now. Also after getting rid of many Pie bugs doubt they will require anything much to focus on apart from Security patches.

I'd be okay if they actually fixed bugs with updates. But that's pretty non-existent. The Pie update we have received is 100% beta. Basically, the beta ROM that we were using has been rebranded to Pie stable. The reason I say this is - The same bugs and missing features on beta (navigation bar ring, overlapping network icons, missing of digital wellbeing and adaptive battery) exist on the stable update.
I think M1 was simply a device used for testing the waters of mid-range smartphone segment. No more updates, maybe.

Motorola One Vision.

We may can get Android 10 (Q) update?

What you think people?
Technically speaking, the 2 years of updates that "Android One" promises will be fulfilled shortly in September, so neither Xiaomi nor Google are committed to launch Android Q for the Mi A1, which might take it out? Well, I don't know, the Mi A1 is still a great phone, but as I said before, the 2 years just end in September
Probably if we see the Android Q will be in Custom Roms that in my opinion offer you a better experience in every way compared to the Stock ROM
If we talk about 2 years then the phone was launched on 5 September and Android q comes comes on 3 September so, technically we should get
I would not get your hopes high. The 2 years of promised updates i dont believe they match with the initial release of the said OS, they are 2 years of updates they are released when Xiaomi releases them to the public. Pretty much the same as saying we can seriously expect 2 major android updates in the said period which we already got: A1 was released with Nougat (7.0) out of the box and in those 2 years we got Oreo (8.0) and Pie (9.0). And with new One devices in their portfolio they most likely will prioritize them over such our oldie A1. Anyway if we get 10, cool then. Otherwise we have to get it from custom roms such as Lineage as others like.
Hopefully it won't be buggy like Oreo or Pie and have no way to rollback easily.

When the Oreo 8.0 update was released, it was pulled due to bugs. Features like high impendance headphone support got broken. Oreo 8.1 update was also pulled because of data loss and safetynet not working. Then the Pie update also broke wifi, BT, 4G and got pulled.
Xiaomi doesn't have a good track record when it comes to major Android updates.

A1 a priori cannot get android 10. The support period has ended, there are only security patches. And in order to run android 10 on A1, you need to run beta testing - what to do cannot, because the beta test team has been disbanded. And updates with corrections and upgrades to the android version will no longer be. Only security patches will remain. And about Android 10 - you can forget, and not hope. Only custom roms.
But can we get in custom rom?

However we still have decent dev and community so we are going to get Unofficial 10 for sure

Regarding future updates

update 3rd Nov: Asus rolling out updates for Zenfone 6
https://www.xda-developers.com/asus-zenfone-6-android-10-update/
-----
Received update 59. Just security fixes. Does anyone know till how long we will receive updates?
I remember reading way back that we will receive two major Android updates so Android 10 also?
If not wanted to know anyone has used lineage os or another rom for this device and their experiences.
We are supposed to receive Android 10. There's no ETA on it. My device came with 8.1, 340 update and subsequently I received regular updates (056 to 059) and I think it'll be a while till we keep getting them. Asus has been regular on doing this. Apart from battery issues and drops, there aren't any issues to these.
Yup. I too remember the 2 year sw upgrade. I tweeted to asus. They said that they are reviewing whether they are going to push the update 10 update to m1 or not. Apparently they care too much about "stability and experience". They said the list of devices is gonna be out very soon on their official website. This was 4-5days back.

Stability? If they push it for Max Pro M2, it's going to be a big bluff and nothing else. There's not major difference between M1 & M2 hardwares and if M2 can manage it, so can M1.

Yes but in real world condition it wouldn't matter there's not much difference in day to day tasks. Updating M2 would just be an excuse to give to people to buy the new model instead of the year old M1.

I'm counting on Asus to release a list soon. M2 Pro will get the first update in the series I assume. Rest will follow.
Sadly, I've never seen a phone improve with new versions of Android, and the same goes for M1: only problems and battery drain after Pie update.
Why don't vendors keep the native version of Android on every phone and just provide security fixes?
Is it not possible because of Android's development strategy?
Bye,

well the answer is ofcourse money. so that they can churn new phones every year. contrast this with something like the Essential phone which released with Android 7 in August 2017 and still got Android 10 recently.
It's perfectly possible to have a phone that can last as long as computers. projects like librem from purism plan to do just that.

It's perfectly possible to have a phone that can last as long as computers. projects like librem from purism plan to do just that.

That's not what other person said. He meant an android should keep its original android version (the android on which it is launched) and just receive security updates.

oh I misunderstood native to mean a pure Android experience.
Then yes the Android update system does have some technical challenges well documented on various websites.
To summarize I'd say the first blocker is that Google stops supporting older Android versions after some time. Iirc they support the latest two versions of Android. So maybe they will drop support for oreo this December?
The second is Android is not based off of the mainline Linux kernel so it's harder to backport kernel security changes. Google and others worked with the kernel developers to have a long term release branch to receive security updates for longer (at least 2 years).
A third would be if OEMs like Asus have a limited contact with chip vendors like Qualcomm to provide blob updates for x years. usually the support warranty of the device.

What he wants should be fairly possible on all devices that have run Android 8 (native) ever since Project Treble has started.
