Hi guys,
I'm having some difficulty with sending SMS messages. Its sporadic. Sometimes they send immediately, sometimes not at all. Its very frustrating.
For example, the day I got the phone (last week) I sent 2 text messages. I didn't hear back from anyone but thought nothing off it. I checked my messages and they were time stamped with the time I sent them at so I presumed they had gone.
That evening, about 6 hours later, I got my two replies. The people had only just got them, hours later. One of them wasn't impressed because it was intructions for something they needed to do 4 hours previously!
So, I turned on delivery reports on each sent message to make sure they sent.
Over, the next two days, I had no problems, delivery reports come in immediately within seconds of me sending my SMS message.
Meanwhile, I called my network (Vodafone) to see if there were any issues with network. they reported none. I checked the message centre number and verified it against the network one. They matched, so I thought all was in order... except I would have to get annoying delivery reports cluttering up my Text message inbox until I was sure the service was working 100%.
Earlier today, I sent about 3 important text messages, got no delivery reports, so I texted my other phone to see if the messages were going through. Nada. I was annoyed.
I'm thinking.. whats going on?
So about 10 minutes ago I shut down the phone and booted up again. Within 10 minutes I was getting all my delivery reports and replies from people!
Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong, what setting needs to be activated etc?
Obviously I can't use the text messaging on the device if I can't trust it to just work like pretty much every handset I've owned since... year dot.
PS: I spoke to Vodafone care team who said my sim card must be old; newer sim cards (128k) are needed for these "high tech" phones.
But I just took my sim out of my Nokia N97 (never had a problem) last week AND messages ARE going through on the Leo occasionally and only after a reboot, which is utterly pointless.
This is the last thing I thought I'd have issues with on a device like this..
Any advice? Have I missed something?
Thanks.
Same here, I thought I messed up something in the sms service or so.
Done many hard resets and soft resets. But still no help.
I'm experiencing exactly the same problems. Also Vodafone and no one seems to get any sms from me.
Okay, this ain't good!!
since you both have vodafone, and I haven't seen/heard about other people having these problems, I'd say it was voda's fault

Now tell me, why? I've never had problems on my previous phones.
I don't think the vodafone on the Ireland branch is the same as the one in the Netherlands
Kinda happy to hear that you guys also having the same issue.
It can probally be patched/fixed by htc. I googled for "htc sms hotfix"
And htc is also facing sms issues on other devices.
sigh... How will I live without outgoing SMS capability? so lame... hope you guys will find a fix soon.
seems to be the same like the sms bug in previous manila 2.1 build. outgoing messages weren't send, but only on some specific providers.
How could such a fundamental and critical phone component get screwed up? That just doesn't make sense. Anyone got ideas out there for a fix or we we have to wait for HTC to patch this? What about people who purchased a Leo and have no knowledge of this site etc deal with something like this? They buy a 500+ euro phone, try to send a text message, no joy. Baffled, annoyed, frustrated. Phone would get returned right? Not happy.
I've had this same problem on ATT in the USA

Had? so it's fixed now?
Just had this problem on t-mobile UK. The thing is that if you're in conversation mode it actually gets inserted as if it's been sent. I looked in outbox and it was stuck there, even after pressing 'retry send'. I tried a reset but it was still stuck there, so i retyped the message and sent that, both ended up being sent, with the origanal sms being time stamped as if it was sent ages ago!
I sometimes have this problem too....
O2 here.
In case it helps, I'm not having any problems on 3UK. Are you all certain it's not a network issue?
Perhaps it is to be honest... and perhaps tapping 'resend' just makes it happen in the background so it just appears that it does nothing.
I still find of the most annoying things to be the fact that the auto capitalise new sentence option to not work.... it's bad for perfectionists!!

+1 !!
It might look like it's mainly vodafone but in the UK at least it by far the biggest network, therefore it's bound to affect more voda users. Only 15 posts and already i see vodafone, att, O2, t-mobile, different countries, different networks.
This is the same issue that I've had this week with my Touch Pro running the Leo ROM, the device seemed to be turning all my SMS into MMS and then not sending them, though the odd one would sneak through. The problem has been fixed with an update to the custom ROM I'm using. It's the Energy ROM by the way. I'll send the author a message to see if he can pop on here and offer advice on the problem.
same here O2 in my phone.. even receive some messages later.. pls help us someone

No, I have not made any changes that would have fixed the problem, but it is sporadic and only occurred twice a few days ago.
unfortunately same problem on o2 uk
Hey guys(gals),
I have an interesting dilemma. I have had 5 hero's in a month. One was defective hardware (so we can rule that out, it was the green phone button) but the other 3 have had an interesting issue. I will have the phone for about 4 days (this is with stock android, and two rooted with MoDoCo) and then all data ( including texts, voicemails, incoming calls) will stop. They only way to retrieve said data is to make an outgoing call, then everything floods in. The local sprint store keeps replacing the phone, but I refuse to believe that I am that unlucky. Any thoughts? Anyone having a similar issue?

Do you have a significant other that could use your phone on their plan for a few days to rule out your account specifically?
Your issues sound strange, and not related to the phone. It's hard for me to believe (like you also) that its the phone since you've had four of them now with the same issue. Also, you've tried different roms, so that also makes it more difficult to be a phone issue. Are you just running a bone stock one? Or are you installing particular apps? you might see if you can't replicate it with no additional software for a few days.
@kmart
My Father and I are on the the same plan, (i.e. both on unl.) so that rules out service. The last phone, (no. 4) I left bone stock. No extra apps (except for Handcent SMS [ on a side note, I have run both ChompSMS and Handcent, so I do not think it is either]) and it still had the same exact issues.

Sounds like a problem with you account's provisioning or something. Mostly, it just sounds like a huge pain in the ass.

I had this exact same issue with my phone, it is definitely an account issue, get your msl number from them, mine was fixed after I did a ##786# menu then reset
they disabled texts and reenabled them on my account before they did this, and then they worked ever since
Have you changed your mode of operation setting? I haven't ever changed this but had a co-worker who changed it on his hero and it stopped getting text messages and voicemails until he made a phone call, once he changed it back it started working fine. Mode of operation needs to be set to Hybrid. You can find it under Settings->Wireless Controls->Mobile Network Settings. Hope this helps
Hey guys,
Thanks for the help, so no dice. I have left my Mode of Ops. in Hybrid (although, if you leave it on Ev-do is is kosher) and doing a reset does not work...It is a huge pain in the arse....
Well sh*t. I thought the last phone was the key, but here we go again. I got my MSL and did a reset, no dice, got Another phone....phone No. 6...Sprint has no idea what the hell is going on. Personally, I think something in the phone is crashing software. I have no idea what could be, but wtf.
I've had similar issues before. It's definitely an account issue - not on your billing account, but your specific phone number in the carrier's system.
What I did was fight for months with Sprint, kept talking to retarded tech support reps who know absolutely nothing, fighting with their managers, fighting with their 2nd and 3rd level tiers, and been told 1000 times my issue was fixed, just to have it reoccur in a month.
Honestly, unless you feel like fighting like that, I suggest you call your carrier and ask for a new number. When they create a new number for you, your account is practically changed, and everything will work like new. You just have to suffer with a new number, which is only annoying for a month or so until everyone updates to your new number.
Good luck man, I hate when that kinda crap happens. Not so much because of the issue, but mainly because no carrier has any sort of good tech support and would rather hang up on you than try and troubleshoot anything. They're completely stupid.
Well, to be honest, I have to keep this number, it is my business number..So, what I am going to do is keep going to into the headquarters store here in omaha. Then. Once I get to about phone no.7/8/9 I am going to call sprint retention services. At that point I will have 7/8/9 phones on record, and they will fix it and give me the 3 months free, or I will walk. I like sprint better than others around here, but damn I am getting pissed...

Yeah dude. I was pissed too. Good luck man, I know how you feel. Sprint is great, but when they f**k up they really f**k up and it's a pain in the ass to get things fixed.
27s, this isn't a retention issue, this is a Tier 3 tech support issue. They need to go into your account and completely deconstruct it, and put it back together again. Basically, it's a glitch in the system causing your provisioning to bork itself. I've seen it before, and yes, it's a pain in the ass to fix, but if you get a caring/dedicated tech, it's not even close to impossible.
Frankly, call into sprint, get on the line for tech support. As soon as you connect, ask for ADVANCED tech support. Don't give up until you're on the line with them. They'll be your saviors in this issue, mark my words.
Edit: For the record, I'm a former Sprint tech. I've had to do this before for customers, so I've had experience in the issue.
Hey thanks for the advice....I will do this first thing tomorrow....I don't suppose retention will give me anything will they....The sprint store in omaha is like 100 blocks from my house....gas$$$...haha
Hi,
I have just witnessed the wierdest problem yet on ANY phone I have EVER owned.
The problem is as follows:
While someone is calling, I will suddenly start hearing the person calling me on the loud speaker of the phone WHILE its still ringing and the person on the other end HAVE NO IDEA that I can hear him !!!!!!!!
So I start hearing the ringtone AND the person on the other end both at the same time !!!!.
It happens randomly and it happens without any interferance from me.
The phone is using the Stock ERE27 with superboot and root.
I have no clue as to what could even cause this, or how its possible. If anyone has ANY idea........PLEASE let me know!.
Wow, is this consistent?
I'd say it might be a provider issue actually.. I may be wrong, but I think that unless provider sends a "connect" command that would start transfering the voice over to your phone, your N1 wouldn't be able to make you hear him/her.
Just thinking out loud. Maybe worth calling their support or going on their forums to see if other people have same problem and if it's specific to N1 or that provider.
I never had that problem with any of the phones (AT&T US)

Nope, its not consistent, it happens out of the blue and randomly. But it does happen quiet often........say around once every 2 days or so. I thought it could be provider related as well, but I have been using the same sim card for many years and I never had anything like this......chances are that this started happening from the provider around the same time i started using my N1 are quiet slim........it will have to be one hell of a coincidence.
I have 2 other friends with N1s and they are using the same telecom provider as myself, but they have no such issues :S

I had this problem alot with my old panasonic gd60 phone in Jamaica on the DIGICEL network. I figured it was cross talking interferance until I started hearing things I shouldn't

Old sim cards can cause problems. At least in the greater than 1-2 year range or so with tmobile and with 3g being added to the network lately. Get a new sim card in store and see how that helps... it shouldn't hurt anything.

That's actually kinda cool, I wish my phone did that.
That's bloody weird :S
well, I would rather find out why or how is this happening before I start changing sims. Because the timming of the problem is too close to ignore ! It only started happening like 2 weeks after I started using N1.
This happened to me last night for the first time. No other phone did this and i used the same sim. My sim is not old.
Finally !! Someone else ! So im not alone.......and this is looking more and more like a manufacturing problem with the N1s......and I would say this a major screw up!
I have the same problem as well, first only with 1 person but at the moment i can hear everybody before accepting. I dont have a problem with it, its good if they say something bad about you.
wow that's a weird bug! we just found a weird bug on the palm pre, where when you are on a call and someone else calls in with call waiting. if the current active call hangs up, the palm pre automatically answers the incoming call waiting call seemlessly so you dont know the difference! yet the phone still shows the original caller ID, and the call time counter still continues for the original call.
kinda a serious bug in a way, lets say you dont wanna answer that person's call, but the pre does it anyway.
It's happened to me on an old Nokia...(6 years ago) on Cingular. I think it's got something to do with the carrier and the simcard security. When it happened to me, it happened the other way. I was calling and I could hear the conversation before they picked up.
Does anyone know where I should be looking to find any clue as to whats happening in background thats causing this malfunction ? I would like to try and re-create the issue other phones.....but I will need to find out first if its software or hardware related.
Basically what im asking is........where do I look (log files and stuff like that) to give me hints ?
I'd like to see how to enable that feature!!! I wanna see what some folks say before I answer their calls!!!
This used to happen to me when I first bought the nokia 6600. When I got an incoming call, I usually press the silence button, hold the phone to my ear, and then pressed answer. But before I could press answer, I could hear the people on the other end, *****ing about me, calling to sell credit card, etc etc.. (lol)
I thought it was the phone, but few other people got the same issue.. with different phones.
it was eventually rectified by the carrier. (As I did nothing to the phone and all was back to normal)
So No one has any bright ideas to solving this mystery ? From the posts so far, it seems like a device issue more than a telecom issue......
lol. it happened to me once.
i have experienced this so many times well mostly with a very old sony phone. like the pervoius post mentioned, u change the volume while ur phone is ringing before answering the call. u put the phone on ur ears and boom.
i enjoyed it when i had that phone. always hearing ppl talking **** about you without them knowing is power: p
anyways my nexus one did it. stock not rooted not unlocked. using it in oman
It started with Nougat update but it is also showing up before update (6.0.1) I updated to Nougat and phone would constantly revert back to Verizon Airwaves default ringtone plus wifi calling wasn't working. They agreed and shipped me out a refurbished phone which was still on 6.0.1. This phone (still on 6.0.1 not updated) will not keep the ringtone or notification sound I set, keeps going back to Verizon tones!!? Any suggestions?
Weird. I haven't experienced that at all. Maybe a new SIMM card is needed?

Are you positive? What have you done to ensure it isn't your SIMM card? You can go to the Verizon dealer and get a new SIMM card for free. Otherwise, I can't imagine what else might be causing the issue? Whenever a phone has exhibited strange behavior, and it happens with a replacement phone as well, I've swapped out the SIMM card and it fixed the issue, unless you already tried this. If you have, maybe it's something with your Verizon account? Not sure if there is some setting with say, the VZW cloud that it's restoring some weird settings? I'm reaching here because I've never heard of this type of issue before and it's baffling, but I'd like to know how it eventually gets solved.
I'm out of ideas. Hopefully someone else can give some other suggestions. I'm very curious to know if you get the issue fixed or not.
Good luck!
I am beginning to think an app I have called Sound Profile is the culprit. Always worked in the past. I went through and disabled each app one at a time for test. BUT I discovered that Sound Profile will startup after each boot regardless of the fact I disabled it in App Settings. Once I found this out I uninstalled and have been checking and rebooting for several hours now with no problems. I loved this app and hope to use it again. I'll keep updating thread.
Has anyone else had this problem? I've got a stock Pixel 4 from T-Mobile that just doesn't get texts reliably. Doesn't seem to matter whether the sender is on an iPhone/Android. Sometimes they'll come in days late from when they were originally sent - sometimes not at all. I've tried all sorts of different texting apps besides the stock one. I've exchanged the phone at T-Mobile for a new one with a fresh SIM card - same issue. If I factory reset the phone, I'll get a flood of all the missed texts and it may work fine for like a week until the problem creeps up again. I've tried with chat features on and off. Nothing seems to fix this and I've had friends tell me they had similar issues and only solved it by switching to a different phone, but I don't have that luxury since I don't have Jump On-Demand. Stuck with this BS and super disappointed considering it's Google's own phone.
Prior to owning the Pixel, my wife and I had the exact same issues with our OnePlus 7's. Text messages were even going to the wrong contacts. We tried everything to remedy the problem via OnePlus. We even contacted T-mobile and they tried resetting our networks as well. Nothing worked. I finally got a hold of a representative at T-Mobile that said they were upgrading the network in our area and multiple customers were experiencing the same issue. So, we immediately switched to another messaging app and let our contacts know the issue and the new preferable way of contact. Now we own the Pixel, our SMS texts are fine and haven't experienced any issues, but it's more likely related to the network than the phone. But I'm still paranoid after that experience, so we hardly ever text anymore and rely on another messaging app with family and friends.
