Did anyone else notice how the screen can be kinda grainy? its only really noticable if your kinda close to the screen and most noticible on text in a web page or something thin. Is it normal for OLEDs or is something wrong with my phone
I can at least confirm that compared to the G1, the Nex1 screen is insanely oversaturated and the contrast is really high. You might also be noticing that in many applications lazily designed for smaller screen dimensions, raster graphics are being scaled up, which causes nasty artifacting (text and pure vector apps should be okay, though).
And now that you mention it, if I hold the phone *really* close to my face, the dot patterns are a little more visible than on a non-OLED.
][
i know for a fact the oversaturation is normal. OLED displays show much more saturated colors than LCDs because of their design. Im talking specifically about the grainyness meaning how edges look kind of dotty its hard to explain with words lol. Its usually not noticible unless you hold it up close to your face or youre specifically looking for it.

Those are called pixels.. put your nose to any LCD screen and you'll see the same..
It's because some things just weren't built for the higher res screen the N1 sports compared to other Android devices, that and the screen has a significantly sharper image than any other phone I've looked at.
Yeah, you can tell some apps and widgets werent designed for hi-res, this phone is blowin me away so far though, I love my G1 and mytouch but they got nothin on this beast

You're seeing it more because of the nature of the OLED screen methinks, everything is much more pronounced, which is why it creates such a nice picture.
im asking if YOU are noticing it lol
Yea, if I look really really really really close I can sort of see it, nothing to worry about though
like how close? youre making it sound like youre using an electron microscope or something. I can begin to notice it about half a foot away!
sorry if i sound nit-picky I payed 530$ and want to make sure my phone is perfect (especially since im probably gonna void my warranty and unlock the bootloader)
If my nose is almost touching it I can see the pixels somewhat, depends what application I'm looking at though.
i can just imagine all of you guys just stilling there putting this nexus one up to your noses and having someone walk in and yell "WTF are you doing?!"
... blueman did you notice this as well or no
unfortunately my nexus one is still somewhere in between Moutain View and Vegas.
Melt, I can see what you're talking about but I don't really notice it unless I'm looking for it or like someone else said I hold it right next to my face, but I can't tell what you're freakin out about cause as a whole my display looks damn amazing.
why are people so paranoid about things?
cause these things cost 530$ + tax.
the grainyness you're seeing is probably upscaled images from 3rd party applications. Since the Droid and Nexus one both have super high res screens, some applications graphics wont fit properly, and the phone will resize them without re-rendering it.
Kinda like trying to print a 1 megapixel image on a billboard, it will turn into giant pixels.
The stock android apps should look fine though. So far I've been very pleased with the display and how things look.
hope this helps. I work a lot with graphics.

Now you got me curious. I can notice the pixel grain (especially on gradient backgrounds) at about 5" or closer. I am slightly nearsighted, though.

Sorry for ones who might know it already. Yesterday I just found out that if I lay my Z3 on a flat table, the bass will suddenly become richer, overall sound is not so flat, and it sounds a lot better than holding it on hands or lay it down on a bed.
I owned an Xperia Z2 before but never noticed this.

Yes, the table becomes a large baffle which will naturally increase bass response of any speaker.

Point is there is many cases where "waterproof" fails...not only Sony...still I would never recomend that anyone try to use phone underwater without special case...

Hi Guys,
I have A Gold S7 Edge and I have noticed recently that the front camera of the device is a little off.
The lens is not centered but the main part being misaligned is the position of the camera module itself.
As you can see in the picture, the black rim around the camera module which is supposed to be even is not even, it is more thicker at the bottom and relatively thinner at the top which makes it look like it has an ugly gap at the left side and bottom side.
Am I being OCD about it or is it really defective?
Please tell me it is normal as from the 2-3 devices that I saw in a store the black rim around them were even so I don't know if it should be this way :/
Yep, me too. But to tell you the truth... I've never realized until I saw your post. Not going to lose my mind for it. But, I've attached a picture to let you know you're not alone, hahaha. Cheers!
As long as u can still take clear pictures its not an issue

I can't notice the black rim in the picture since your phone is black too.
Is the rim even or does it have a gap on either of the sides?
Having said that i case in my scenario since my phone is gold, the gap of the black rim is more evident

Are you referring to the camera lens or the module as the lens being up or down is pretty common while the whole module being off centered is rare which then creates a black gap, so which one are you referring to?
It looks like the screen on my new G6 is slightly off to the left. There appears to be a smaller gap to the frame on that side. Anyone else seeing this on theirs? My Pixel XL screen runs all the way to the edges so I have no other reference.
Agreed, i can see it too, specially on the top. Mine doesnt look like that
Get a micrometer and measure it.

Is it possible that the case or the tempered glass protector is creating an illusion?

My OCD would be in overdrive if my phone was like that. I'd exchange it.
Sent from my LG-H872 using Tapatalk
I completely understand, but it's my OCD that's also making me think twice about going for the exchange. I'm sure you are all too aware of the time it takes to get the phone set up just right: apps, sounds, accounts, launcher, behaviors, and all the other crap. I checked images from G6 reviews online and a few seem to match mine. Well hell, I'll wait and see if anyone else sees it on theirs. My eye keeps going to the edges now. Thanks for the feedback. It's nice to know I'm nuts but not alone.
Are you sure it's not your care causing it to appear that way?
LG backup is pretty good. Save to SD and restore to new phone

No, the screen doesn't reach all the way to the bezel and the case is even further out.

Exactly, I thought the point of the notch was to increase the screen size but seems like some of the manufacturers don't get this and the bezel is still too big on the bottom. I really don't like this whole notch craziness and hoping it will fade away in the next couple of years...

Props for posting those images , it's nice to see what it's going to look like , although not liking that notch , had high hopes the p3xl too , sad to see though
A massive notch and a chin. That's horrible
I really really hope that the pixel 3xl looks like this.. coz then i will have no temptation to upgrade
On a serious note, this would be one of the dozens of the 'potential' final prototypes. Just look up the video of how one plus went through multiple iterations before getting to the final design. Google is not that stupid to keep such a big notch.
If they took away the bottom speaker and didn't have any chin, then people would complain about no stereo speakers lol. That notch is kinda big tho

Yes totally glass. The top part is glossy and the bottom is matte but it's a single part. This way google tried to conserve the aesthetics of pixel 2 but I think it does'nt add any fonctionality.

Assuming you mean functionality, actually the glass back would allow for wireless charging.
It may also allow new/different features with regards to the newly rumored 'pixel dock'.

Yes the glass panel is probably for wireless charging, but I was talking about the fact that this back panel is seprated in two parts, one glossy in the top and one matte in the bottom(it's hard to see in the picture but it's there). This is esthetically resembling to the pixel 2, but what's the purpose as the whole back panel is made of glass while the back panel of the pixel 2 xl is made of metal and only the top part is glass to allow signals reception.

Im fairly certain, its a single piece of glass, with the matte part being applied, or the glass is etched.
and the whole back needs to be glass as wireless charging wont work through aluminum (pixel 2XL), nor would the wireless charging receptors inside the phone fit in the current glass area, let alone the fact it would be very hard to make a pad that would line up properly if they were in the current glass panel.
was this lost and found at a bar ..lol

I dunno if I would go that far.
The notch simulator in android P has a notch taller than the one in the pics here, though it doesnt look to be as wide. Obviously this doesn't mean the one on the Pixel will be that large, but with google you never know.
In the simulator, the notch is the exact height of the menu bar background.
Well...I'm a bit disappointed as a pixel 2 xl owner. The bezel is so insane...
But where's the dual lens camera? I mean yes the pixel 2 xl takes the best photos still. But the dual lens setup affords a lot more opportunities for shots. Still 4 GB ram - and google expects to sell this for 800-900?
I don't see a huge reason to upgrade yet. But I didn't see a reason to get the pixel 2 last year. So we will see...
