Is my S7 Edge Defective? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi Guys,
I have A Gold S7 Edge and I have noticed recently that the front camera of the device is a little off.
The lens is not centered but the main part being misaligned is the position of the camera module itself.
As you can see in the picture, the black rim around the camera module which is supposed to be even is not even, it is more thicker at the bottom and relatively thinner at the top which makes it look like it has an ugly gap at the left side and bottom side.
Am I being OCD about it or is it really defective?
Please tell me it is normal as from the 2-3 devices that I saw in a store the black rim around them were even so I don't know if it should be this way :/

Yep, me too. But to tell you the truth... I've never realized until I saw your post. Not going to lose my mind for it. But, I've attached a picture to let you know you're not alone, hahaha. Cheers!

As long as u can still take clear pictures its not an issue

Since we are at it... While I was looking at my phone I found that my SIM/SD tray is a little bit downwards on the opposite side of the pin-hole. I'll attach a picture. Does anyone have something like this?

I can't notice the black rim in the picture since your phone is black too.
Is the rim even or does it have a gap on either of the sides?
Having said that i case in my scenario since my phone is gold, the gap of the black rim is more evident

To tell the truth I didn't even realized but it's a little bit down and to the left. But it doesn't have any effect as far as I've noticed.

Are you referring to the camera lens or the module as the lens being up or down is pretty common while the whole module being off centered is rare which then creates a black gap, so which one are you referring to?

Gap in screen - build quality

Just got the Hero today. I noticed there is a slight gap where the screen meets the casing. It just about doesn't meet the top, infact I can just about see a component through it. Is yours like that?
Same here.. I can see a bronze looking component to the right of the speaker vent
thats it! Maybe there are all like that. Bit worried its going to be a problem with dust in the screen. Bit naff for a 400 quid phone. Great otherwise. Worth sending back for a replacement? what do you think?
The one I had seemed to have a 'dimple' by the power symbol. As if dust had got under the final finish, another iffy build issue methinks.
Are all yours Orange network branded ones? I've got the white unlocked one and its absolutly fine.
Could somebody post some pictures of these gaps? That's very concerning
A portion of the Hero's on Orange do have that gap, I've noticed. Thanks for making this topic, it will help if it happens again. As it's a customer affecting issue which will cause returns.
Thanks Acelister,
Not seen a post of yours since the Touch HD release
Mine has that gap at the top where the screen meets the casing - its not bothered me until now and the pocket dust is building up. I'll check the white hero tomorrow and see the difference, if so different I will return the device as I am still within the 7 days as I received my device last wednesday.
I'll post an image tomorrow when back in the office.
Noticed it on my T-Mobile one on day one, yesterday. Massive bit of dust stuck in the gap. Managed to get it out, but when you think that most cases are gonna be less effective cos of the chin, this could be a big deal :-(
I think mine will be getting 7'dayed.
The gap ain't the only reason
Kev
What are the other reasons?
Remember its 7 Working days excluding the day of delivery don't let them tell you otherwise as some try it on
i cant see a gap anywhere ...lol where am i supposed to be looking ....mines on orange
what !!!
the same problem on htc diamond 2 that dust inside the display screen !

Seriously, between the HTC logo and the ear piece
Mine doesn't have a gap any larger at the top than any of the other edges.
I'm using a black T-Mobile Hero - given the "custom" colours, it makes me wonder if there is an issue here with specific colours.

Dave

Same here....the gap seems equal on all sides. Some pictures would be helpful to see what it looks like.

You have a good one. When you look at the handset straight-on, you can see a gap that isn't fully filled with the rubber stuff. In that you can see two or three copper squares. I thought it was maybe just with the Graphite version, but if it's on the White version too, then it's obviously a build issue. The tolerances must be set wrong on the machines.

Guess I am lucky
Mind you, if I look EXTREMELY closely at the rubber gap on the top part of the screen, I can just about see some copper part shine in the light on the left. But the gap is extremely small and you have to really look for it to reflect the light. The phones with the gap probably do have tolerance issues on the machines since some have it and some don't.

Misaligned screen

So I have the edge since the 11th now. And every time I have the feeling that the screen is centered to the right side, I notice it extra with a case. As the area between the bezel and the screen is larger on the left side.
This afternoon I looked with an magnifying glass and indeed saw that this was indeed the situation. It is about 0.1 mm or so but oh so annoying. Luckily I can exchange it, however there will be only phones I stock around the 30th. Keeping mine thill then.
Are there others with the same issue?
The attached version is not my phone, but just an example to explain.
To better understand what i mean I attached a picture. I have the black version but you could see it as the black line on the right side of the phone is thinner than on de left, so the screen is essentially to far to the right..
not the best picture for judging...
But I know what you are talking, I have seen a few devices now and all of them were different in terms of screen quality and alignment!
for me, the worst problem is the uneven contrast (darker sides) on most of the screens. i own 3 devices now and all of them have display flaws. two suffer from a yellow tint when tilting, the other screen has a slightly darker left side... :|

I know. When my S6 comes back from warranty repairs I will try to make a picture. The S5 I have laying around can't focus clearly enough.
Well I hope I won't have a replacement with tint issues or such. Because my screen is, aside of the alignment, pretty perfect. Maybe I'm a bit nitpicky but I think that's justified with these kind of price tags.
I still have till the 30th to get used to it or exchange it. An order for a replacement has been made.
People complain about issues of screen color when tilting the device.. When are u ever tilting the device? U should be looking at it dead on anyways.
Honestly I don't see anything from ur picture, maybe ur just crazy.. If it is a little little misaligned who cares.. It's the curve part anyways..

The picture I used is just to explain what i mean with the black lines on my phone. Imagine that picture with no black line on the right of the phone, so the screen blends in with the white. And a bigger black line on the left.
That's what i have, but my phone is black so i cant put it on a picture to explain it.
I can really only tell in a dark room, but there is ever-so-slight light leakage where the glass meets the metal on the bottom of my S7 Edge. I see the slight leakage on the bottom-left and bottom-right. Doesn't bother me much, maybe a little, but my experience with smartphones is you'll be lucky to find one with absolutely flawless everything including screen alignment. It's often not worth exchanging for a new one, which may have other issues. Plus there's the whole issue of setting the phone up from scratch again. My device seems to be working fine (this is my 5th day with it) so far, so I won't be exchanging it.
After reading this thread I checked mine and its is misaligned like you described. I then went to Samsung and they checked and said that its normal. Now that I see it, its driving me crazy.

Same
Same **** with me. My screen is also misaligned and its driving me nuts with this phone price i dont know what to do about it. I have s7 edge btw same **** all over with the s6edge. I really didnt notice it when using the phone. I noticed it when im checking out the phone looking how pretty it is then when i turned on the screen i noticed that the left side of my screen has a thinner black bezel and when i look on the right it has a little bitty gap.

The sides of the S7 edge leak light from the display.

We need a stupid name with this... I don't know if it's a gap or the glass is so thin that the light will leak through. To find out if this happens to you, Google "white" go to images and put your phone on full brightness and go in a dark room and you will probably see through sides of the phone growing lightly, I don't think it should be visible during normal daily use but I found this while in bed. I will have pictures soon I don't have any phones with usable roms at the moment.
yaa.. same here with gold s7 edge
There is no back light like ips displays. There for cannot have light leak. What your seeing is the side angle of the display because it bends. Test this by recreating the situation then turning the phone so the edge part of the display is facing you.

I gave my S7 edge back for warranty repair because the screen stopped working. They changed the screen and now my repaired unit has the same issue. I'm pretty sure the original one didn't. See the pictures. Do you guys think it's normal ?

It is normal. It's because of the curve of the glass, that's all.
Yep i see those too in my device, but i highly doubt people check their phone in that angle.

As others have said I don't think it's a physical gap in the glass but more of a reflection of light against the edge of the glass. I wouldn't worry about it.
It's normal. Every S7 Edge will look like that. It's just physics.
I am 100% positive that it comes from under the glass and not a reflection of the edge.
I even put a black tape on the edge just to be sure.
Do all of your S7 Edge look like this ?
I have same thing pretty sure it is light bending off the glass and reflecting at an angle that it illuminate the outside edge

Hi Guys,
mine also does that after I replace my cracked screen.
Samsung has released a statement about this. Just google: Light leak Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, and you will find it in the first one from Samsung website.
Hope this one help.
Cheers

I dont think it does this because of the curvature of the glass, because if you add pressure to the screen the "light leakage" sort of goes away.

lol, I've seen that. but I'm just saying, from my observation I noticed tiny spots along the line of light at the edges, possibly dust or air during production of the phone. If the light was caused simply because of the bend of the screen, wouldn't it be a perfectly straight line?
i dont know if your still going on about this but the top speaker also lights upcause of the light leak

Misaligned Front Camera S7 EDGE

Hi Guys,
I purchased the Galaxy S7 Edge from Uae and now I am back in my hometown.
unfortunately my phone is only a month old and i just noticed that the front camera is misaligned by 1mm or so, you can see more of the black ring and the lens of the camera is more towards the right.
Although the camera works perfect and there are no problems, should i be worried?
I am extremely worried as the phone has no warranty in my country .
Mine is a bit misaligned as well. I wouldn't worry about it as long as it works as it should.

Thank God that is such a relieve as I don't have warranty support in my country and if i go to a service center they are known to rip customers off by selling unwanted parts especially to phones without warranty.
Is this normal, I saw this on other devices and some were aligned correctly?
Could you please share a picture of your device if possible?
Yea dont worry about that. I believe most are like that people just dont look that hard at there phones.

You gotta look real hard to see. But its there. Doesnt effect anything since it doesnt cover the lense.

The black one is mines. It has a screen protector on so thats the top offset.
But if you look at the black trim you can see where on the buttom of the camera it has more space then the top as its off center
My wife is the sliver one.
I did my best to take a picture of it. You can see how hers is center.
Either way it dossnt effect the camera.
And fyi these pictures were taken with the phone lol.
My nikon battery was dead.

Thank you so so so much for the pictures.
Mine is somewhat just like yours, I am glad that I'm not the only one.
Your wife's camera also looks a little misaligned from the right or I don't know if its because of the picture.
It's just ironic that a phone with such a hefty price, one would expect some quality and tolerance?

Rear camera dust black dot problem

Today making some videos i realize that my rear camera is displaying a black dot. Under the glass is clear, i could't not see on top of lens itself. When video stabilizer is working i can see the dot shaking.
Anyone found something similar?
