Videos not playing full screen - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

It seems videos are not being played full screen on apps such as Netflix and VLC. The screen doesn't stretch past the status bar. Which is a waste of screen real estate.
It seems only YouTube can play videos full screen.

Anyone knows if there is a fix for this?

I don't think that ever worked. YouTube is the only app I could stretch fullscreen with my Pixel 3 XL too. I think it's up to the app creators to enable this.

Follow this:
- open up settings
- choose display
- full screen apps
- scroll to the youtube app and touch the youtube app and change it from auto to full
- play video and pinch to zoom
Please hit the thumbs up bottom if this works ??.

Yeah I fixed it by going to Settings -> Display -> Fullscreen Apps -> change Netflix from Auto to Full

Thanks for this. This was driving my crazy (Plex) and I'm used to seeing it full screen on my XS Max.

Locking youtube screen orientation

When i watch videos on youtube while laying on my side, youtube automatically rotates the screen even when i use the lock on the notifications bar. How do i go about locking it without youtube messing with what it thinks is the right orientation?
Anyone?
Ultimate Rotation tool has the ability to change settings on an app by app basis. You could have Globally Force Rotate which will allow all screens to rotate and then go to YouTube, select App Only and set the mode to Landscape.
From that point on, when you enter YouTube, the screen will force to Landscape but everything else will still rotate (even the home screen).
NO Root needed... and it is not free, but you got $25 free bucks from Google to use for stuff like that.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate
There is a 7 day trial so you can see if it works for you. There may be other non-fee or lower cost apps that do the same thing as well... this just what I use.
When you are watching a video there is a toggle for landscape or portrait if you tap on the video

[Q] Youtube in True Fullscreen

I'm all about maximizing screen real estate, so I removed the on-screen nav buttons by adding 'qemu.hw.mainkeys=1' to system/build.prop. I use GMD Gesture Control to get around and things are pretty awesome. What still bugs me though is that videos through the youtube app play with 7/16 inch black sidebars in landscape. Is there any way to get videos to play true fullscreen? I tried playing videos through Chrome but couldn't even get the videos to play landscape.

You can't, because the screen resolution of the N4 is 1280x768, as opposed to 1280x760 like a true HD video. You would have to zoom a bit and chop the edges of the video of if you wanted true full screen.

i think this has to do more with how you got rid of the nav buttons, if you want to do it yourself you have to edit the frameworks not just the build prop. The easy way would be just to use AOKP, PA or CM rom that has this option built in. btw check out LMT instead GMD, it much better.
here's a screen of my youtube app on the nexus 4
GMD have the option to hide your nav bar, you can also create a gesture to hide and unhide the nav bar. It's what I'm using right now.

i've been holding out on flashing roms until most of the kinks are worked out, but i guess there's no harm in testing them out now since they're probably pretty close to stable. i'll test them all out soon. which one are you running, neotekz?

Weird problem in the browser and stock video player, please help.

I have the Note 3 9005 version and in the stock browser I have the option for full screen ticked. But when I scroll down the page the address bar doesn't disappear, so no true full screen mode. The status bar is hidden though.
Also in the stock video player when I touch the screen to bring up the controls, it doesn't auto hide after a few seconds like it should and doesn't disappear even when I tap the middle of the screen. I have to press the rotate button to change the orientation and then once again to go back to landscape mode.
Could these 2 issues be related? Any solutions will be appreciated.
I have the same problem with the video player. Only workaround is to rotate it portrait then back to landscape, controls disappear ...

Do you have the browser problem too? The address bar doesn't auto hide on mine like it should.
Anyone else facing these issues? Possible fix?

Yup, just tested. Address bar stays on persistent even though full screen option checked under browser settings ....
Though this one isnt as irritating as the video playback due to the large screen..
Any fix or workaround ?
Did the rotate workaround work for you as well for the video playback ?

Edit: wrong thread sorry.
Yep, that's the only way to rotate the screen for me too.
So can we assume the browser and the video player issues are linked?
Even though it's a large screen i still wanna utilise all of it...
Anyone else with this problem? I'm so used to full screen browsing on my note 2 but I can't get it to work on the note 3.
Are there any other browsers that have a proper full screen mode?

i am having this problem. on android 4.3. when in video playback, the controls doesn't auto hide. i have to rotate the screen in order to do so.... maybe there is a bug? or a bad program that affects this?
Full screen browser is only meant to hide the status bar. It says so in the settings!

Prevent Dailymotion App from dimming screen

Hey everyone, has anyone noticed that dailymotion (app and website) dims the screen when it's playing videos?
in the chrome website you can go out of fullscreen and move the mouse about and you get 5 more minutes of bright video but on the actual android app the moment you get out of the navigation overlay it dims again
I've been getting around this buy pumping the brightness up but i mean that's clearly not the solution. anyone have a solution?

3rd party applications comparability

Hello
I was very much interested in LG G6 and have even ordered it once in eBay yesterday and cancelled it after getting to know one information none of the reviewers have pointed it out.
I have heard that most of the 3rd party applications would show black border even in portrait mode because of the aspect ratio difference.
But I was also been told that applications would automatically utilise the entire screen at least in portrait mode.
I have also heard that LG provided scaling function is not of great help as well.
I am from India and I am not sure how much time it would take for the developers here to update their application for a new screen aspect ratio.
Please provide your valuable inputs.
I am upgrading from Nexus 5x
This model released just 4 months ago so expect little delay with specific apps but LG's scaling works fairly well in standard apps, I would say stick with ur current phone for few months.
Thanks for your kind reply.
I am using the mobile phone mostly for applications and in portrait mode itself and would watch YouTube videos also.
I am not using the mobile phone for gaming.
Can you please post some photos of the scaled applications ?
I heard that the navigation bar would be in black colour even when an application scaled.
Are all Google applications and prominent 3rd party applications support the 18:9 aspect ratio?
yes the navigation bar does turn black but it will be hidden under the app your are using in full screen and pull down on noti panel will bring back the navi buttons, so if u watch YouTube videos after scaling u won't see any back bar while in full screen.

You mean I won't see black borders while youtubing in fullscreen?
yes but only if the content is in 18:9 format, lets say if u resize YouTube app and the video is also coded in 18:9 format then the bar will be hidden, at least that's my experience on couple of occasions so far.
