I'm all about maximizing screen real estate, so I removed the on-screen nav buttons by adding 'qemu.hw.mainkeys=1' to system/build.prop. I use GMD Gesture Control to get around and things are pretty awesome. What still bugs me though is that videos through the youtube app play with 7/16 inch black sidebars in landscape. Is there any way to get videos to play true fullscreen? I tried playing videos through Chrome but couldn't even get the videos to play landscape.

You can't, because the screen resolution of the N4 is 1280x768, as opposed to 1280x760 like a true HD video. You would have to zoom a bit and chop the edges of the video of if you wanted true full screen.

i think this has to do more with how you got rid of the nav buttons, if you want to do it yourself you have to edit the frameworks not just the build prop. The easy way would be just to use AOKP, PA or CM rom that has this option built in. btw check out LMT instead GMD, it much better.
here's a screen of my youtube app on the nexus 4
GMD have the option to hide your nav bar, you can also create a gesture to hide and unhide the nav bar. It's what I'm using right now.

i've been holding out on flashing roms until most of the kinks are worked out, but i guess there's no harm in testing them out now since they're probably pretty close to stable. i'll test them all out soon. which one are you running, neotekz?

So I've had my kindle fire for about a week now and so far I'm loving it. It's my first android device after 4 years of using solely iOS and am probably going to ditch my iPhone 4 for an android phone when my contracts up.. That being said...
Is there anyway to force apps into full screen? Especially with video apps (mx video player, mobo, etc) it is very annoying having that bar at the bottom (even the "minimized" grey bar is distracting). It's even worse on apps like spotify, where the navigation bar covers up the entire bottom of the screen making it impossible to play or stop a song! I would love to be able to make this bar completely go away when not needed. Maybe a 4-5 finger swipe down would minimize it and a swipe up would bring it back? Anyone capable of making something like this, or know of something that already exists?
Thanks!

The KF only has a two point multi-touch.
I think you will see changes in the bottom bar with some of the Roms that will be released soon.

This is something I've found to be annoying as well. For instance, with Spotify you can't use any of the "play" or "pause" functions at the bottom of the screen because the bar is in the way.
That bar is a Kindle Fire thing, you won't have that problem with an Android phone. I find the bar annoying too when using MX player. Hopefully a nice pprt of ICS will fix us all up!

The camera and YouTube app have a very nice feature that they eliminate the navbar so you could get the entire screen real estate, but when you touch the screen, the navbar immediately comes back.
This could be very handy if applicable to gps navigation apps and other apps. Is there a way to do this?
I wish if it could do this in games also

This is not the same. When you touch the screen it doesn't come back. It also be programmed to specific apps only.
Do you like pie? (;
If the softkeys are anoying to you and you enjoiy the full 5.2 inch display look into flashing a custom rom with PIE CONTROLS have them on my droid razr m and found it very convenient
an answer is right beside you (i meant the feed from the xda portal stories):

Whenever i use bsplayer or mxplayer to play a movie, the navbar hide.
The problem is that, i usaully skip some part of movie (you know what movie i meant lol),
and when i fastforward the movie, the navbar keeps jumping in and out and it is really annoying(because it alter the resolution).
However there seems to be no setting on both app that i can cancel the hiding. What should i try?
Go back to 4.2 lol

Not sure what Rom you're on but stock player doesn't resize the video when the nav bar appears and it plays everything I've thrown at it. I have immersive mode enabled for the video player through app settings xposed module, I forget if that's what it does by default. ..
swipe up from where it should be and its there.
why would you want to hide it?
you're the first person I've ever seen wanting to NOT hide the nav bar during full screen applications. every person that has ever posted to any forum about 4.x soft key hiding has asked how to hide then more frequently lol

Just wondering how many new features of Android o are actually working on our 6p. I have it up and running but I can't seem to find any of the features like picture in picture and changing icon display. The system tuner doesn't have navigation bar so how is it possible to get picture in picture to work? It all looks hunky dory on the Pixel phones but unless I'm missing something, there's nothing available for our 6p. And there's still no night mode. ?
No night mode but I got Pip to work in Chrome with a full screen video but not on YouTube by pressing the home button.

Thanks for the quick reply. Will try that. So I guess we have to root to get this feature via custom navigation bar app. I was wondering how long I could hold off rooting. The ads are already driving me up the wall.?
None of the Android Oreo features are working on mine. Like if you long to the home screen and go to settings, it takes me to Google Assistant settings....

Same here
I flashed the update today, and I was disappointed to see the Marshmallow boot animation, the new app drawer is nonexistent, and I can't change the icons.
Hi guys, it didn't take too long. Already rooted and using custom navigation bar app to enable pip. No more ads and life is sweet again.?
People on the Pixel forum and on reddit are saying that you need a Youtube Red subscription to be able to use PIP on the Nexus 6P without resorting to use a navigation shortcut. That's crazy.
Edit: I'm Canadian so Red is a no go.
I can't press resume after pausing when using the custom navigation button to load pip on YouTube. Am I missing something or are we doomed to restore the window to full screen to press play?

Hi, just tested mine. Video can resume after pausing in pip mode.
I just see different between O and N was UI and underhood performance... All the mentioned features didn't work at least for me...
I asked about new stuff on oreo on google nexus forum for our 6p..and i just got answer that notification dots works only on Pixel and PiP mode works on Youtube Red and Chrome when watching video in full screen mode..
Welcome to the Nexus Help Forum.
I understand you're facing issues with the notification dots and PiP mode on the Nexus 6P device after the Android update.
Please be informed that notification dots are only available on Pixel. They are not possible on Nexus. Also, PiP on YouTube is only possible if the you have YouTube Red. There are also many apps that are not currently compatible with PiP. Therefore, please let me know which apps are you trying to use PiP with.

I'm using Lawnchair launcher, great stock pixel looking with extra option and feature including icon pack support and dots on app on homescreen, different visual effect, highly recommend it
using Amir Zaidi's pixel launcher version 2.1
working reasonably good. Most features works fine , DOTS is acting strange working intermittently.
But as a whole, just an APK to install , no root needed ( I am rooted BTW), and no need for any system.img flash if you wanna go back,
Hey friends
I really don't like the navbar which is reducing the screen to much, so I decided to install J Touch app from playstore.
Loaded a nice looking home button jpeg picture from the web. Give the button a one hit back function, a long press home function and a swipe up for recents.
Please see attached pictures navigating is nice and I whish I could even eliminate the navbar on the homescreen

Keeping one icon appear on the screen all the time may cause burn in I'd be worried about that

No I don't think so. There is transparency setted, the button is popping if hitted and it is shifting up on home screen. You could be as scared or even more about a status bar burn in...
and look how much time is needed:
"Test Results
The iPhone X displayed burn-ins before the Galaxy Note 8 at 17 hours. However, it took 510 hours for the images to become permanently etched on its display which also marked the end of the test.
Compared to that, the Note 8 took 62 hours to show first signs of display burn-in, which is impressive. However, it had permanent marks way before the end of the test. The Galaxy S7 Edge showed signs of burn-in sooner than the iPhone X, however, it showed permanent burn-ins much later than the Note 8 and almost at iPhone X’s 510 hour mark."

Ok so would you recommend the app over navigation gesture? The gesture is not polished at the moment I'll give the app a go

I think so, you can also activate temporary move, which is helpful is s.th. is hided by the button. So you can move the button away for two seconds. You can hide button always in landscape, it is hiding when you are keyboard typing... it is perfect for 18:9 displays.
If navbar would have a one button control too, I wouldn't use J Touch.
You can also give it an iPhone look but ok I guess everybody is hating apple .
Edit: Ah ok you mean gesture. Sorry I didn't have this option until now.... don't know what is better
Looks like a nice app. I prefer LMT Launcher though as you can set it to do almost any task and only comes on the screen when you activate it so creates a really clean look with extra functionality.
Or you could try Gesture Control from Conena.. I'm very happy with the way the gestures work

Have you been able to use lmt with stock os? If so, I'd like to know the secret for getting rid of the nav bar
Not sure. Not really a fan of stock. From other forum members, it's possible to disable it with the joneplustool app. Both that and LMT require root.
I've been using Swipe Navigation. It even has long press functionality. Loving it so far.
That looks bat **** ugly, why don't you just download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.suphi.swipenavigation&hl=en ?
In my kg g6 its eating battery like elephant ??
Xposed Edge anyone?
