Chinese Carplay Dongle won't work (zBox based) - Android Head-Units

Hi there,
Just got a USB Carplay dongle for Android based on zBox (or at least uses their app). I have tried it on my Teclast Tablet and Amazon Firestick but it refuses to work properly (keeps disconnecting and not recognizing the phone)
I believe this might be due to not enough current to power it AND the iPhone. I have also tried it with a USB OTG Powered Hub, but to no avail.
I don't have access to an Android Headunit at the time and I have purchased it as a gift for someone, is there any other way I can test if it is working properly?

USB OBDII adapter not detected on startup

I have an InDashNet UN8000 that I'm having a weird issue with.
Due to the bluetooth on this unit being run through the MCU (not visible to the settings) I bought a USB OBDII adapter to use with Torque Pro.
The adapter does work... but torque (and presumably android?) doesn't see the adapter on cold startup. I have to quit torque, then replug the adapter for it to show up.
Is this a known issue? And if so, is there a work around? I'd prefer to avoid a wifi unit as I use wifi for phone tethering (internet on the road).
I'm not rooted... but it looks like there is an official (OEM) way to do so listed on their site. I just haven't gotten to it (no need).
Did some more looking... Its a torque pro issue. Its even mentioned in the USB notes in the app.
Whoops.

If i plug into a normal usb port (charging only) the unit stays on and does not reboot. But unable to connect to stereo.
Have done all nessasary firmware upgrades.
I have tried new cables everything. Nothing works.
Another supplier that sells thses things rekon they have them working in my type of stereo. But mine just reboots.

Joying 8.8" Unit USB Issue with CarLink

Hi all,
I'm having an issue with my Joying 8.8" Android Unit. The unit supports Android Auto using the pre-installed "CarLink 2.0" app.
I usually use Wireless Android Auto and it works just fine. However, the head unit does not have any buttons, neither does the steering wheel (Audi TT mk1). To solve this, I have added a USB volume dial (Digispark ATtiny85 paired with a rotary encoder) which I have used on another car running a eonon unit with ZLink where it works very well.
The problem is that, everytime I connect the volume knob to this unit's usb, CarLink seems to think it is a mobile phone, so it interrupts my wireless android auto session and attempts to connect to the usb volume dial. When this happens, the volume dial stops working. This only happens when the CarLink app is running.
Thinking this is an issue with the CarLink App, I tried to install ZLink instead, but It won't run due to "channel error". Do I have to install it as a system app?
Another possible solution: Is there a way to disable USB for CarLink?
Thank You
What did the reseller suggest when contacted for support? What else has been tried?

I contacted Joying with no answer yet (It's the weekend, they might reply next week).
I tried using different USB ports, USB hubs, USB adapters, changing available configuration.
Interestingly enough, using USB A -> USB C -> USB A adapters made the knob continue working even after CarLink tries to connect to it, but still interrupts an ongoing Android Auto session.
I ended up figuring out the problem. Turns out that certain USB class/subclass identifiers are not properly handled by CarLink. Making the microcontroller report a different combination of usb class/subclass did the trick.
Interesting problem. I just installed a 9" Joying radio into my 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback EX, and I forgot I had an iPod plugged into the USB in the middle storage area. I could not get Wireless CarPlay to work reliably (if at all).
I know the radio does not talk to an iPod, so I moved all the music to an SSD drive on USB3 in the glove box. However, if the drive is connected, Wireless CarPlay will not connect unless I disable and re-enable Bluetooth and reconnect manually, but then it disconnects the USB hard drive.
I don't have the option of changing VID/PID values. I am waiting to hear back from Joying, but thought I would add this to the thread as it is somewhat related behavior with CarLink 2.0.

OTG + Charing possible on HD 8 (2020)?

Hi All,
Have you had any luck with OTG + Charge adapters?
Some back ground
The purpose for my Fire HD 8 is to be a multimedia device for my car.
I also got a CarLinkit device which (paired with an app) enables me to use the tablet as an Carplay/andorid auto device no root needed.
The only problem that i have atm is that after reading review on OTG+Charge adapters on Amazon it seems like the Tablet decides to either charge OR enable OTG, NOT BOTH (I'm assuming that its because the tablet has to output some voltage to the otg device to power it.)
Let me know if you had any luck and if you did perhaps some links to the adaper you are using?
Thanks.

Xtrons PSF7FSFA - intermittent USB connection issue

Hiya, new to forum. Done a search and couldn't find any specific help for my issue.
I have an XTRONS android 12 headunit specific shape for a MK4 Ford Mondeo. Model number is PFS7FSFA_B.
The issue I have is with the USB cable and android auto. I had issues with the stock software for screen mirroring in that it needs an Internet connection (better than a mobile hotspot I've read) to validate or something. Couldn't get that to work. Some googling found me the HUR Headunit Reloaded app.
Paid for that and downloaded it. Managed to get it all setup and working. Then after changing screen resolution in the HUR app it would no longer see that I connected my phone. It would charge but wouldnt actually connect.
I'm using the red USB cable that plugs into the headunit per the instructions.
Issue seems intermittent as yesterday I got it working after a lot of fiddling, then it stopped. Then I pulled the power to the Headunit and it got going again.
But this morning not working again.
I attempted to download the wireless app to try that but couldn't really understand which device needed the hotspot running on it as the instructions were a little ambiguous.
Phone is a pixel 7 pro.
Where should I start looking to troubleshoot this issue. OR are these units just junk in the first place?
Any help appreciated
For reference the USB cable I'm using is brand new, high quality braided cable, data transfer on other devices is fine as I checked, I also tried a couple different cables to the same avail. Leading me to think it's either a software issue in the headunit/app or an actual hardware issue?
Evening update on my USB woes, its now stopped charging the phone at all, it does register that I have plugged the cable into the phone, but when I check the "battery app" on the phone it does not show that its charging.
There were 2 USB cables in the box with this unit, a 4pin plug with a red USB socket, and a 6pin plug with a black USB socket, all the info seemed to point towards the red one labelled mirror link that I need to use. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? Do the 4/6pin plugs work differently or have different power outputs or something?
