OTG + Charing possible on HD 8 (2020)? - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Have you had any luck with OTG + Charge adapters?
Some back ground
The purpose for my Fire HD 8 is to be a multimedia device for my car.
I also got a CarLinkit device which (paired with an app) enables me to use the tablet as an Carplay/andorid auto device no root needed.
The only problem that i have atm is that after reading review on OTG+Charge adapters on Amazon it seems like the Tablet decides to either charge OR enable OTG, NOT BOTH (I'm assuming that its because the tablet has to output some voltage to the otg device to power it.)
Let me know if you had any luck and if you did perhaps some links to the adaper you are using?
Thanks.

Charging and simultaneous connectivity

I'm using Android Headunit Reloaded which uses a USB cable to connect between my phone and my 7" TabA. The tablet ends up charging the phone. I was wondering if there was a way to prevent this- or even better- to have a y-splitter OTG cable to charge the tab and one for the phone. I suppose this would require custom kernels?
Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.

OTG and charging at the same time on YogaBook [YB1-X90F]Android?

I have a cable that works fine with my Shield tablet for this, connect a flash drive and power the tablet at the same time for instance, but not on this Lenovo.
Has this ability been disabled? and if is has, Is there a method to enable that in the software or is that hardware feature? I thought I recalled on previous stock roms on the Shield it could not do both but now it can.
Any insight is great, thanks.
It only works depending the charger... Doesn't with the included but with a 5V/3A Quick-Charge one...
your Shield has only 5200 mA compared to the 8500 mA the Yoga Book has...

I've tried a couple chargers now with no luck. The OTG cable will power the lenovo or let the USB device work, but it will not do both. I assume the one included with my Samsung S5 was a quick charge 2.0 as it was a main selling point of the phone at the time. Also I was pretty sure the Nvidia one was too? However neither of those will simultaneously charge and use a USB connected device. Again this same cable, OTG plus power, works just fine on the Nvidia tablet.
As with my Nvidia tablet I would plug in the charger, then cable from charger to OTG plus power cable, then plug into tablet. Tablet would show charging. Then connect whatever USB device I need. Tablet will show charging plus use or mount USB device.
Any ideas of what I am doing wrong? This isn't going to be something weird like the Yoga Book is wired different than every other device out there is it?

Well I am using it with a cheap 3A/5V Amazon branded charger and it works just fine...
I can only guess, but it seams your external drives consumes more than the Lenovo Book needs to be able to charge... If I am not wrong the Yoga Book needs at least 2.4A
I have a MopowerTK36W-4USB charger. It has two 1.2A 5V and two 2.4A 5V. This charger works fine with my Shield tablet to charge it while still allowing me to plug in flash drives, a 2.5 SSD, or gamepad controller. On the Yoga Book however it simply will not charge it. The idea the charger is the sore point here is driving me nuts. Shield tablet will use it's charger, the Mopower, and the Yoga's charger without issue and allow for USB devices at the same time. The Yoga Book just will not work like it.
I guess I will eliminate this OTG plus power cable as the possible culprit next and order a couple different of those cables. I can't quite grasp this generic cable working on the Shield but not on the Yoga Book either. Anyway just isn't making sense to me unless the Yoga Book, again the YB1-X90F, simply cannot charge and use USB devices at the same time? But you have stated you are able to do this so I am scratching my head here.

Can I use "regular" USB-C -> HDMI cable instead of DEXpad? Which one?

Hi guys, is there a way to mirror the phone's screen to other display (let it be a monitor or TV) using USB-C->HDMI cable? Does it matter what cable to buy? Can you recommend one? Are there any caveats to this? Do I need to set the phone somehow or install some app?
Thanks a lot
It will just work from my experience...
I've also bought this thing: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078X9N26D/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It works as dex station if connected to power supply and as hdmi if not.
The only bug for this is that it slowly discharges your phone even if it's connected to power...
it works, you don't need a Dex pad anymore.
I believe any usb c to HDMI will work, but I would recommend using a wireless charger with it.
Probably better off just getting the dex station cause either way you go it would be the same amount of money cause I wouldn't recommend going cheap
I know it's ridiculous to ask; but would a NIntendo Switch Dock actually work? Considering it's similar, and the board can be taken to a Very small case, essentially, a mini dock

In Android Q beta, you can get DEX by using your regular USB cable with the PC

OTG cable for Fire HD 8 that DOES support charging ?

I got a Fire HD 8 tablet with Carplaylink to get Apple CarPlay working in an old car I use. I need a USB OTG cable that DOES support charging an Android tablet.
I did a 20-30 minute search myself and all the USB OTG cables I’ve seen openly stated that charging for Android tablets and phones are not supported.
Any suggestions ?

Can you use an USB-OTG while charging. Can you find a charging contact point with VCHG, open your Fire tablet, find VCHG contact point and measure the VCHG contact point using the voltmeter.
The USB-OTG with microUSB port input can be used for Fire TV Stick.
I had one cable that did exactly this a few years ago and I for the life of me don't know what happened to it. now when it comes to OTG you should just have a separate piece of the cable splitting off that you would plug into the wall yeah and the rest of the wiring would make its way where it needs to. now here's where the tricky part comes in terms of whether a device supports charging through USB OTG. I know the fire tablets support this because you may not be using adb or OTG for any particular reason, and your tablet will charge whatever it is plugged into with that cable. If the OTG cable is built properly then theoretically it should charge your tablet as well. But really good and decent cables are hard to come by, that aren't really expensive. however when it comes to something like this I would stay closer to a name brand because you can get ripped off pretty easily even if you read the fine print and find out that it doesn't do what it says. There are no real big laws or regulations behind the cheap charger and wire industry, so you pretty much get what you pay for. It's just a matter of finding the right one.

Fire HD 8 OTG + Charge at the same time. Possible with just cable or need software?

I have a Fire HD 8 and I've connected a charge+OTG cable that I've confirmed works to charge and mount OTG devices on my Nexus 7 (2013) tablet. However, on my Fire HD 8, only the OTG device is mounted, the Fire is not charging with this setup.
Could it be the cable is not compatible with the Fire HD or could it be the Fire HD is not capable of OTG+Charge without a software add-on?
Thanks in advance for the help!

What your device model you're referring?
You can charge it directly to battery using TP4096 charging module.
Links from @jasonrabbit to charge the Fire tablet directly to battery to use OTG: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/help/adding-charge-port-t4068753
I’ve looking at doing the same thing, OTG and charge, tried lots of different OTG cables, hubs, hubs with switches but nothing works.
Today I’ve tried wiring in a TP4056 charge board but it’s not charging my battery even though the charge light is on
Can anyone help with this
Red + battery power out
Black - neural power out
White + battery
Green - battery
Could anyone please help with why I can’t change battery, it’s still charging with the original change port but not with the PT charge board
