Seems I found an easy solution for SMS issue (CDMA_LESS) - instead of calling Verizon support, I enrolled in Verizon Integrated Messaging.
After 3 day's I got an SMS (and before that SMS did not work!) :
ZW Free Msg: Welcome to Integrated Messaging! Starting now, your messages will be synced across your Verizon Messages devices-including phone, web & tablet access! Visit www.vzw.com/vzmessages for more info.
Now SMS working fine (incoming/outgoing).

along with the xv6800 update and vzwnavigator, verizon has also released mobileim for windows mobile. its an IM client that uses text messages for communication. so now you can send ims from aim, live messenger, or yahoo, on the verizon network without using data. however, it does consume sms messages, but thats not bad if you have an unlimited messaging plan and no data plan (like me)
EDIT: Upon testing the software I noticed that the software initiates a data connection. According to the download page it only uses sms messages. going to call verizon tomorrow morning and find out whats actually going on. (i really had hoped that this would be like the get it now mobile im, as i mentioned before, i have no data plan. unfortunaty for me it started using the data network)
I installed and tried it a few days ago. The interface is clean. But you can't be logged in to more than one account at once. If you're on Yahoo IM and receive a message on AIM, you must exit Yahoo IM to read the new message. I prefer an integrated program, like JiveTalk or IM+.
I have unlimited data but a very modest allotment of phone minutes; since I knew I'd be using the Web and JiveTalk extensively, I didn't pay extra to get free SMS. For me, the new Verizon IM service would cost, right?
Does anyone know whether it accepts file transfers? I think it does not.
I tried to have a PDA phone with no data plan for a while... I had a text message plan and thought that it would cover me. I then noticed that when I sent/received a text message my data would connect.
I called VZW and they indicated that on a smart phone, when you send or receive a text message you use data... on a non-smart phone you consume minutes. Either way you pay two times to send or receive text messages.
Verizon does have a 29.99 unlimited data plan... I would suggest that... 1 MB of data with no data plan is like $15 bucks.
Ah, great: Since I have the $30 data plan, I can use this Verizon app for free. I think I'll try it out, if only to advise my friends whether to use it or a third-party app like my beloved BeeJive JiveTalk.
Do you have a cab? i can't find the download for this and my girlfriend is dying to have aim on her touch
lol.
this is funny. verizon not happy only with getting their money-hungry grips on gps but now they're tryin' to leech the instant messaging too... seriously, this is why i got a pda in the first place, cuz it's the only platform verizon isn't locking down and forcing you to use their money-sucking apps. now they're clearly trying to corner that market as well.
This is definitely new to me & Facebook.
It wasn't like this mid last week.
Facebook is making progress with T-Mobile and the G1.
When visiting m.facebook.com/home.php today (Sunday), I got several new messages at the top of the page about email and MMS functionality.
So out of curiosity, using my computer, I went to Facebook.com / Settings / Mobile, and unlike before, when you go to Register for Facebook Mobile Texts, one of the carriers listed is T-Mobile.
I'm not able to get MMS working because Flexpay customers, even with unlimited messaging, can't send/receive messages to a lot of the different online services.
I'll be interested to know if regular pay customers can indeed get this to work. If you can, then it's time to raise a stink with T-Mobile since I am paying for unlimited messaging.
Anyhoo, I hope I'm posting this in the appropriate section, and I hope it isn't old news. If anything is wrong, please just delete.
I tried it and I can upload statuses and upload mobile pics no problem.
nice find
i can finally get text messages to my G1 running on t-mobile before facebook wouldn't allow text message alerts.
I am very new to Android coming from Palm Pre and I purchased Droid Pro and activated it with Page Plus everything seems to work fine except I can't receive or can't send any plain text messages any kind. I haven't been able to receive or send any ever since I got this activated. I have tried everything I could.
I did activation multiple times and still no luck! I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. I really love this phone and it works great including web data, calls but the stupid text messages will not work at all.
As soon as I send a text message I get an instant error message saying text message not sent and it does that for every message. This is just driving me insane since I text more than I talk.
I am getting close to my last resort is the reset this phone to factory which I don't know how to do. My brother uses Droid 2 Global and Fascinate on Page Plus Wireless with no problems. I tried calling multiple sources and no one is willing to help me.
Please help me if you can.
When this happened to me on Verizon, I would have to reboot my phone to get messages to send. I would suggest trying a 3rd party messaging app, such as HandCent, GOSMS or one of the other, reputable ones on the market.
There is a communication error in the Pro with the Verizon servers that will get 'backed up' from time to time and messages will not go through. Motorola is aware of this problem and is supposed to of sent out an update for this to help avoid this problem.
Being on Page Plus, I would hope that it's a similar issue.
Another thing I would suggest is to make sure Wifi is turned off on your phone. The Pro's have a different set of protocols for messaging when Wifi is active.
I hope that this helps you get your phone squared away ^.^
I've seen this question pop up a lot, but I thought I would see if any Nexus 4 users are having a problem on 4.2.2.
I participate in a group SMS chat with 5 other people. Everyone is an iPhone user, except one person who is on a Blackberry. The text messages from the Blackberry user show up on my N4 as individual texts to me, not in the group message.
The only way I've gotten this working is by installed a 3rd party app called GO SMS Pro. Since installing that, the Blackberry user texts now show up in the group message on both applications (stock and 3rd party).
From everything I have read online about SMS and MMS, this would seem to be a problem with the Blackberry user's texts, and iPhone is just handling it better than Android.
I would really like for this to just work in the stock app. For now it is, but I don't like that it just magically started working after installing the 3rd party app.
Thoughts?
It seems this should not work, but after I subscribed to a data plan for my 2013 Nexus 7 (Android 4.4.4), I was able to receive SMS messages.
They first shows up in the top left status bar, as an envelope icon, and with the first part of the message displayed, and when I expand the left drop-down menu and click on the message, it brings up the full dialog. Once I click on the "Done" button, it disappears forever. The whole thing seems to be driven by the "Simple message receiver" (see attached screenshot).
I did not mod the device in any way (well, I did enable root). I did install Pinger and some other apps to be able to talk and text via Internet (Wifi only so far), but since I got my data plan, I can receive messages without problems (even two-step authorizations from Google — which never went through on the other apps).
So, it seems the SMS capability is still there, and all those fancy workarounds that are being talked about around here are not really needed, or am I missing something? And if so, what else do I need to save the received messages, and to send my own?
The device was bought, new and unlocked, in the Czech Republic, and is now being used in Canada on a pure data plan on Fido (fido.ca/web/content/monthly/ipad_plans).
As far as I know it is completely normal for a tablet to be able to receive texts.
For example, here in Germany your provider sends you a text message once you get close to reaching the limit of your data plan. They couldn't send you that message of your device can't receive texts.
Whether you are able to send texts also depends on the contract with your provider. For example, the provider that I work for offers data plans that are for data only. You can't send texts or make calls with the card, even if your device would support it.
Google threatened to remove this functionality from nexus tablets, but then probably received some suggestions from network operators (banks), as they are using same mobile network connection to send pins or authentication passwords, billing info and other information to devices, using device's mobile number via SMS.
So seems - they had to put it back.
Yeah, the information I found was a bit contradictory (especially with the different builds, models, and Android versions), so I guess basic receiving may be available on all.
So, with that in mind, I did install the Xposed SMS module, and I now have full SMS functionality (notifications, sending, receiving, and records of previous conversations).
