Samsung Drivers Won't Work When In Fastboot Mode - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

First of all, I would like to point out that the XDA Developers website has made this problem harder than it needed to be. This post is originally from Stack Exchange, but people said I would have more luck here with this problem. But every little thing I do it a problem. Try to use a proxy on the website? Nope. Try to post this in the Samsung Galaxy S7 section, where it's SUPPOSED to be? Nope. I know it's all to prevent spam, but I mean come on. Be a little lenient here. Anyways, I'm done with my rant. Back to the post.
I have made the mistake of trying to root my phone. Which is fine, but it's a lot more complicated than I thought it was, but since I have asperger's, once I start something, I feel like I have to finish it.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930U) with Sprint. I've heard that these phones are EXTREMELY difficult to root. Some even call it impossible. But I can at least try.
I ended up getting tunneled down a endless loop of tasks to complete before I actually root my phone, for preparation. One of the things I must complete is I have to install a TWRP Recovery Image in case of failure. But in order to do that, I have to unblock the bootloader.
To do this, I am using Platform Tools, with includes ADB (Android Debugging Bridge), and Fastboot. I connect my phone to my PC via USB cable, open the CMD, and type:
adb reboot bootloader
Once I do this, my phone reboots into the bootloader, just like it should. Normally, the next step I would take would be to type in:
fastboot oem unlock
When I do this, I am left with the message:
< waiting for any device >
I'm assuming that means that it's not detecting my phone at all. It's odd though, because it was able to detect my device perfectly fine whenever my phone was booted normally, but when I go into the bootloader, it doesn't detect my phone anymore.
After hours of searching around the internet, I found that a potential problem could be the drivers of my phone that are installed on my PC.
Sure enough, if I open up the Device Manager, when in the bootloader, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, I found the driver "SAMSUNG Mobile USB CDC Composite Device", with a little yellow arrow next to it on the icon.
If I double-click on the entry, in the "Device Status" box, it will say:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
An invalid parameter was passed to a service or function.
Code 10 means that Windows is saying "There's a problem, but I don't know what." And well, I'm stumped by this.
The drivers work perfectly fine if I'm booted normally, which is why I'm confused. In the meantime, I'll continue my rampage across the internet for a solution to this problem that actually WORKS.
If you're wondering, I using Windows 10.

I am having similar problems with my Galaxy S7. In order to make any significant changes, the bootloader MUST be unlocked FIRST. Hence, the dilemma, if you can't make changes without an unlocked bootloader, and you can't unlock the bootloader, what can be done.

As far as I know Samsung devices simply don't have no fastboot support. Refer to Odin flashing tool instead.

Solved having trouble getting root

I am running Windows 7 x64 I have no idea if following this guide on another operating system will work, this is just a step by step of EXACTLY how I did this, Not to say this is the only way. I have tested other methods and I have put in different variables and I have successfully gotten it to work several times in a row doing it this way while following jp4756's guide. I am sure this is not the only way to accomplish root, however this worked for me perfectly. PLEASE don't skimp out on any step. There is no shortcut here just follow the steps and jp4756's guide to the TEE!!!
Step 1.
Uninstall pdanet/htc sync/ any other thing you installed to get all this to work before
Unplug phone from computer usb cables and have phone powered on and in settings menu
Step 2.
download USBDeview(install it) easy to google it
download HTC SYNC(do NOT install it yet) for mytouch slide easy to google it
Step 3.
While in settings menu go to Application
go to Development
and check the box USB debugging
Step 4.
In settings go to Connect to PC
touch Default connection type and choose Sync
At this point you have the phone not plugged in, you have the setting on the phone changed, you have dowloaded usbdeview and installed it, and have htc sync dowloaded
Step 5.
Start USBDeview(some may have to right click the exe and run as administrator) and delete all android drivers and mytouch drivers, anything relating to android
Install HTC SYNC and let it completely install
Step 6.
Plug phone into computer and let the computer auto install drivers etc...
Step 7.
turn the phone off. Power on the Slide into the bootloader by Holding Down ( Volume Down + Power Button ) After it does its little thing your computer will beep and start auto installing drivers and stuff
Step 8.
If everything has gone according to plan in Device Manager it will show Android 1.0 or w/e with a exclamation point. Right click on that and choose Update Driver Software
2 options pop up choose Browse my Computer
then choose Let me Pick from list...
a list will appear giving lots of choices
choose Android Phone should be the first choice that says android....
then 3 options will appear, choose the 3rd one that has Composite in it and choose okay.
Step 9.
Now select Recovery from the bootloader menu
after it is done doing its thing completely 2 things will happen
1) In device manager you will now have something under disk drives
2) USBDeview a new driver will pop up at the end of the list, something like this:
Port_#0004.Hub_#0004 T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide USB Device Mass Storage Yes No No No E: HT05RPS05696 6/16/2010 4:00:58 PM 6/16/2010 4:07:35 PM 0bb4 0ff9 08 06 50 USBSTOR USB Mass Storage Driver USBSTOR.SYS USB @usbstor.inf,%generic.mfg%;Compatible USB storage device
Step 10.
This new driver to appear shows Yes under the Connection column. This needs to be disabled. Right click on it and choose Disable Selected Device
after about 10 seconds it should no longer say Yes under connection column, if this does not happen then you are not running it under Admin.
Okay so now you are literally almost freaking there.
Step 11.
Now basically all you have to do is follow jp4756's guide starting with step 5. Im going to assume you already understand steps 1-4 in his guide. And you already have the package listed in his guide as well. You have already put those files where they belong
Step 12.
Okay so we are basically following his guide now. first things first
5. run the update.zip it will fail(MUST DO)
6. now in cmd type adb reboot recovery (don’t press enter)
7. in the recovery hit reboot system now( once it starts rebooting run that command rapidly untill back into recovery) <--- Basically while the phone is rebooting you are just hitting up arrow enter up arrow enter up arrow enter up arrow enter in CMD. You will know when you can stop when the CMD freezes for a sex, computer makes beeping noises and the phone reboots basically. It is headed for recovery and we must switch our command now
8.type adb devices(if it says nothing repeat the steps, if it says offline unplug it and then plug it back in, if it says recovery your fine) <---- Basically after you know its headed for recovery you change command to adb devices and you repeat previous procedure, up arrow enter up arrow enter up arrow enter etc.... I did not use loop, i did this all manually.
This may take a few tries, if it does not show offline then go back to step 6 rinse and repeat. You go back and forth just a few times and you will have it. Literally within about 3 tries you should accomplish the annoying goal of having offline stay there.
My job is done, follow guide and continue on your quest for root
There is no guarantee this will work for everyone. I am not claiming that this is 100% Im just giving an explanation as to how i got it and what might have been causing everyones trouble. Results may vary
Thank you to all the devs who made this possible and jp4756 for his wonderful guide
Wow that is just way to much stuff there...
I've ran loop on 2 totally different Computers running 2 totally different OS's and running 2 totally different Drivers, I have no problems with either one..
1st: XP sp3 32bit w/ PDANet Drivers <--- Only ones that I could get to load, Forcing drivers wouldn't work in XP... also like I said before, make sure to close the PDANet Program in the Toolbar.. Also make sure to read the directions when installing PDANet...
2nd: Windows 7 64bit w/ Htc Drivers <---PDANet Drivers also work... You have to force the HTC Drivers in Devices Manager..
I think most people are having this problem because they aren't doing the USB Debug thing. But could be Wrong.
Also a side note my phone is running the USB Drive and not SYNC works just fine...
Also It just might be your computer so I would try and use a different one if you can.

Sorry that we all can't be as cool as you jnight666, but some of us are having real problems with no apparent explanation. I am an IT professional with access to every kind of computer used in the modern world, and trust me, I've tried all the ones that apply. Rubbing it in our faces that it was just so easy for you is just rude.
THE DRIVER MAKES NO DIFFERENCE FOLKS. IF YOU CHANGES DRIVERS AND THEN IT WORKED, IT'S PURELY A COINCIDENCE. PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN THIS TO WORK ON MANY DIFFERENT DRIVERS.
THE CONNECT TO PC SETTING ON THE PHONE DOES NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN FASTBOOT/RECOVRY FOLKS. IF YOU CHANGED THIS SETTING AND IT WORKED, IT'S PURELY A COINCIDENCE. PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN THIS TO WORK ON VARIOUS DIFFERENT SETTINGS.
That being said, this didn't solve mine. I still cannot root.
And Yes, my cap locks was on purpose.
Okay, please dont come in here and start telling me how my method is wrong. I already stated there are other ways to accomplish it. I had already stated that this isnt 100%. I am merely offering an exact procedure that i duplicated SEVERAL times, with it working for me every time. If this isnt how you accomplished it then pls, theres no reason for you to be in this thread posting negative comments.
With that said fermunky, did you follow the procedure to the tee? - btw im not assuming anything so please dont take it personal. Im just trying to help ppl : )
My caps wasn't to be negative. There are too many people claiming the drivers were a key. And I am not saying yours said this, but it also doesn't clearly say it doesn't. That is all.
Completely understandable, and definitely no disrespect to you or anyone here
When I disable the Mass Storage I see other items in USBDeview that reference the Slide. I end up in a loop after rebooting and rapidly entering adb reboot recovery. I was seeing everything as your instructions explained.
Do you think it is worth a shot to disable all but one item for the Slide? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I work in an IT Escalation Group and this has to be one of the toughest nuts I have tried to crack! LOL
Thanks,

Yeah sorry I wasn't trying to be rude.

I also have the loop not working issue but i usually only happens once or twice..
I feel your pain I had trouble with the push Update.zip part of this thing and I was trying it for hours...
I was just trying to tell you what worked for me...
If you tried different computer and still no luck then im guessing its the Phone that is the issue or the USB Cable...

You definitely don't want to do that, as one of them is one that you need to be connected once you finally get to see offline stay. Are you rebooting using the method described in jp4756's guide? meaning your rebooting using the recovery option reboot, then in command doing the adb reboot recovery, then once you no the phone is gonna boot into recovery you switch to spamming adb devices? When you say your in a loop it sounds to me maybe your not doing the adb devices after the phone listened to your adb reboot recovery command
Followed your instructions...
No ! next to anything in device manager. Right clicked on Android Phone > Android ADB Device and went to properties to update the driver. Nothing in the HTC folder would work, they both said that they weren't applicable for the device...(this was in C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Win7_x64)
before plugging your phone into your computer a single time, can you confirm that you started up USBDeview and uninstalled every single driver related to android, or mytouch or htc etc... Also before ever plugging your phone in a single time did you install htc completely?

Right Click Android Phone - Properties - Driver - Update Driver - Browse My Computer - Let me pick from a list of device drivers (click this, don't give it the path in the upper box) - Have Disk - Browse to yours C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Win7_x64 - click androidusb.inf and select Open - OK - Unclick Show compatible hardware - Select "T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide" - Next - All Done.
after getting some sleep and starting fresh, i tried this method again this morning. on the fourth or fifth try i got my slide to stick in offline mode. so then i unplugged it and plugged it back in to get into recovery. lost it, and now im on my 50th or so try to get it back to offline mode.
i need a stiff drink lol
it seems partially a driver issue and also an adb issue i thinks. it connects 'when it feels like it'
i'll report back if i make any progress.
btw im doing this on XP Pro SP3 fully updated
edit: I also noticed when adb does catch the slide, 2 instances of adb are running, then one closes and loses the phone. maybe this will help solve some of the problems
You've misunderstood that post. Only one instance of ADB will show when the loop is not running. Once you start the loop, another instance of ADB will show up and disappear many times. This is normal. As long as only one instance is showing before loop, you are fine.

I would just like to say that I have followed every method listed in these forums, achieved root the first try (using the updated update.zip). My problem occured when flashing the eng rom, I lost clockwork, root and now the phone runs like sh!t. Yes, superuser was installed and yes my pc no longer recognizes the phone when searching for adb devices after pushing the first 2 files from the eng flash walkthrough.

maybe your downloads were corrupted. that's really strange...
man, that really sucks! I am truely sorry...
after spending 20 hours or so on rooting, I really feel your pain.
After I reboot into recovery mode and then use adb to check for my device I never get it to show up. Just so I am clear when you say 'spamming your device' you mean after reboot and rapidly entering the reboot recovery command, then looking for device with adb devices command. I never get it to show.
Thanks for the reply!
No devices in adb?
So I had this same problem with my MT3G. Type in "adb devices" kills the last device and it lists connected devices and NONE were listed. Not sure exactly what I did, but did eventually get it working. (I was trying to use the emulator)
Now though I'm having the same problem with my wife's MTS. Any ideas?

[Q] New Nexus 7, Win 7, Nexus 7 Toolkit can't boot into Fastboot, "Too Many Links"

[Q] New Nexus 7, Win 7, Nexus 7 Toolkit can't boot into Fastboot, "Too Many Links"
SOLVED!
So I went ahead, tried flashing the stock recovery, no joy (no recovery menu at all - just a bad-android image). After a while, tried flashing CWM touch (via Toolkit) - and now it's working. So, everything seems good now.
----------------
UPDATE 5 - PARTIALLY SOLVED:
So, after the last couple of things, I began to suspect bad hardware, as I alluded in those updates. And I was right.
But... it wasn't the hardware you might have thought.
It was...
(this is embarrassing)
The USB cable.
Yes, the USB cable. It was the wild variations in recognizing the fastboot mode that made me suspicious. Replaced the USB cable with another one and... stability, achieved. Unlock, root, recovery program and SU program all went without a hitch. In fastboot mode, for the first time, the device serial number shows.
HOWEVER - things are not perfect. The recovery mode from the bootloader still gives the bad-android icon.
I just used the toolkit to reflash stock recovery back to the device. This completed rapidly, without error. I then tried the recovery option in the bootloader, but again, no joy.
So at this point, I point a finger partly at the tools used to flash this - they claim there is no problem, yet the flash doesn't take at all, and no error is given. As a sometimes firmware developer, I'm used to flash being followed up by a checksum or other test to verify success of the flash. Is that not being done (shame, if not). If it is, then apparently the flash works, but the software being flashed doesn't? The stock recovery???
Any ideas on how to get this back? I just did the full unlock, which wiped all user data, and proceeded from there. I now have a solid connection, but don't really know how to get things back.
Perhaps I need to manually reinstall 4.2.2?
----------------
UPDATE 4:
So, on a lark, from fastboot in Android, I selected the "Recovery" option - it starts to boot that, then gives the Android with red triangle and exclamation point. So, looks like the recovery was toasted.
This was a brand new device earlier today. It has been completely wiped twice, and none of this has gone away. Seriously: bad device?
-----------------------
UPDATE 3:
So, I thought I'd try the direct approach, as outlined here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741395
Device is in Fastboot, Device Manager shows it as ok.
I run fastboot flash recovery <file> -- and IMMEDIATELY get "fastboot has stopped working" - that's right, a hard crash in fastboot. And this is repeatable.
Am I wrong in thinking this looks more and more like a driver problem? I note that fastboot is recognized as a device maybe half the time - the other half, it gets an exclamation point in Device Manger. All I do then is restart the bootloader using the bootloader menu, and usually it fixes right up. But that's obviously a huge red flag, as the device should be recognized every time.
Is this a defective Nexus? The only thing that seems dicey is anything relating to fastboot/bootloader (which is, however, unlocked - or at least it says it is).
----------------
UPDATE 2: Using the "restart bootloader" in fastboot results in slightly worse non-recognition of the device. When I do that, I get a straight "USB Device Not Recognized" from windows - the device manager doesn't even show "Android Phone" as a class of device in this case.
---------------------
UPDATE 1: I found the thread talking about missing entries in the INF file. I added these, and got a somewhat, but not entirely, stable recognition of the Nexus 7 when in fastboot mode. Basically, sometimes it is recognized, other times it is not. By "recognized", I mean that the Windows Device Manager shows the device as "Android Bootloader Interface", with no indication of a problem (which it only does in fastboot mode - it shows as a composite ADB device when booted normally).
However - it seems it fails to recognize fastboot about half the time, although it seems that that is related to reboots - that is, a fresh boot, then going to fastboot through adb seems to work. But restarting fastboot manually fails to be recognized (Windows shows a bang by the "Android Bootloader Interface", and says the device "failed to start").
So, using 4.3.5 Nexus 7 toolkit, I tried to unlock the bootloader. Windows recognized fastboot mode, but the process errored out anyway, after maybe 15 seconds, saying "Too Many Links" - the same error as before.
Again, brand new 32gb wi-fi-only Nexus 7, with 4.2.2 update and the most basic configuration only (dev mode, usb on, etc.)
Any ideas?
-------------------------------------------------------
ORIGINAL
So this is a new, out of the box nexus 7. The only setup has been to connect to wifi, update to 4.2.2, and enable developer mode and USB debugging.
Running latest paid-for toolkit - Update 29 Feb 13, version 4.3.5
Just about everything requires the insecure fastboot, but every time I try any operation that attempts it, I get:
Booting into fastboot mode
downloading 'boot.img' ...
FAILED <status read failed <Too many links>>
I basically can't do anything - in this case, I was trying to backup.
It is being done on 64-bit win7 system that had drivers, and worked for another nexus 7 a couple months ago. But, just to be safe, I uninstalled the drivers, rebooted, and installed.
However, I see this on the home page of the toolkit:
FASTBOOT MODE [If serial shows, drivers are installed]
List of Devices attached
ADB Mode
List of devices attached
<numeric code> device
From this, it seems I should expect the word "serial" to show up if the drivers are installed?
I then unplugged the Nexus, refreshed the menu, and both Fastboot and ADB show no devices.
I then plug in the nexus - I get the usual two tone "device attached" sound, no warning or error message from Windows.Checking the Windows device manager, I see a section "Android Phone" with the entry "Android Composite ADB Interface". There are no unknown devices, which would seem then that drivers are working.
So, another refresh of the main menu, and again, I see, under ADB MODE, a single device ID number, and the word "device".
I don't know what to make of this. Apparently, per the "if serial shows" message in the main menu, drivers a NOT installed. But according to Windows, they are.
This perhaps matches the fastboot failure.
Should I see "serial"?
In any case, what do I do to get the drivers to work properly if they aren't?
And if they ARE working, then what is wrong with fastboot?
At this point, I think the toolkit is broken, and worked a couple months ago.
No, you should not see "serial". Your devices serial number should be displayed under whichever path is valid at that time. If you are in the bootloader, your device serial number should be under "fastboot". If you are booted normally, your device serial number should be under "ADB".
I used this guide:

I've since figured that out. There was nothing at all, when in fastboot mode, only ADB. But then I found the thread describing two missing INF entries. I added those, updated the driver, and now the fastboot mode (which wasn't even recognized by windows) is now ok in the Device Manager. However, in the main menu, it shows, literally, "??????????" instead of a serial number - that is, there are question marks instead of serial number, Following that, a few spaces and then "fastboot".
Apparently, there are still inadequacies in the driver as relates to very, very new models running 4.2.2 (which this is).
BTW, I do believe I read somewhere that the stock recovery initially comes up with just the android on his back with the warning sign. You then have to hold power and tap volume up or something like that and the recovery menu becomes visible. I could be wrong, I know I had to do this on my old GNex, and those were the steps that worked.

Interesting. I did re-flash the stock recovery, and could get that without the android image.

That may have been a GNex thing that I am remembering. Either way, I'm glad you got everything all straightened out. :good:
I'm still kinda new at this stuff too, but if you need any more help, feel free to hit me up. Even if I don't know the answer to the question, I'll help you find it.

[Q] Nexus 7 doesn't boot

Hello all! I'm having a problem with a Nexus 7.
This is my brother's tablet that he hasn't used in a few months. It hasn't been unlocked or rooted.
I can get to the boot screen with the android lying on it's back and the options with the volume buttons. The other info on that screen which might be pertinent:
Fastboot mode
Product name: grouper
variant - grouper
hw version - er3
bootloader version - n/a
serial number -
signing - not defined yet
lock stated - locked
When I go to recovery mode and push the power button, it says "booting failed" in the upper left. It still says Google in the middle, and has the options with the volume in the upper right, but the android is gone as is the text in the lower left.
I have adb and fastboot installed, but I can't seem to do much since the tablet is locked. I tried unlocking a few times, and it's always failed. Usually it doesn't give a reason, but one time I got this: "Failed (status read failed (Too many links))"
I've tried googling this and can't find someone with the same problem.
Anything I can try?
Thanks!

OK, I have that now, but I can't get very far. I think I need to enable debugging on the device first? How can I do that in that state it's in now?

Anything else I can try? Not sure if I'm missing something with the tool kit, but I nothing I tried seemed to help.

If you can get into the Bootloader, just run the below via ADB
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Once you unlock the Bootloader you can use the "Soft Brick" Mode in the NRT to Re-flash back to stock and see if that will allow you to boot. You do not need debugging enabled to use the Nexus Root Toolkit if you use the Soft Brick mode, but you must have an unlocked bootloader.

I've tried unlocking a few times, but after a few minutes of it saying "unlocking" it fails.

What says "unlocking" (computer or tablet) and are you trying to do it through the Toolkit, or via command prompt ADB? I would first make sure your computer is seeing your tablet (ie. that the drivers and Fastboot are installed correctly). Do you know that they are?

I was trying this with the command prompt. I could get fastboot to list the device when using that command. And the tablet and command prompt both say "unlocking" when doing that. I would assume that means the computer is seeing the tablet and everything is set up correctly?
I think I tried to unlock with the Toolkit, but I believe it told me that device needs to be in debugging mode.
Hey there, I'm having a similar problem.
My info is the same except my bootloader version is 4.18 and my lock state says it's unlocked. I tried to use the root kit but I'm having trouble with the fastboot device being detected. Driver solutions attempted were the google ones, and the pdanet ones. I can't really do the manual thing since that involves the device being recognized when plugged in, and since I can't enable usb debugging... anyways the automated drivers windows says were installed successfully so I don't really know what else to do.
Note: I do know the usb port on the tablet and computer work since when plugged in, it will show that its charging with the white battery icon.
Same issue here
I was in the process of upgrading manually from android 5.0 to 5.0.2 owing to the serious lag that came with lollipop. The OTA was taking longer and testing my patience as most apps were crashing due to lag.
Therefore decided to go for manual flashing of the image. I have never done this before. I was able to make the computer see my device by disabling mtp via storage under setting in the device. This is one thin I noticed to make the device visible to the computer.
After installing the device drivers my nexus was visible within the device manager but it couldn't be seen as an external storage until I played with the MTP. I had even unlocked the boot loader before all this.
So everything was going well and while I started to think all is well, I ran into this issue. From adb I tried to run 'flash-all.bat' from the new device image. Something went wrong somewhere - don't know what it is, but from then on, I am stuck in the fastboot screen or into recovery mode but when i try to boot the device bu hitting the power button - I get this message 'Booting failed'.
I am also trying to use NRToolkit but no use. When I connect my device it is seen in the device manager in my pc but cannot see it as a storage. Therefore when I now try to run the 'adb devices' command it cannot see my device. From what I saw initially, until I enable/disable mtp mode adb was not able to see my device to communicate.
Now when I tried NRT and installed the drivers once again, it is being detected in the device manager but when I run the driver test within NRT - I get a ADB device not found error. Within NRT all that it says is go into device setting>storage to enable it which I know but at the current status of my device in boot screen/recovery mode how can I go in to enable this. This is not helpful.
Somebody please suggest a workaround for this issue. I know I am close to the solution but not sure how to enable the MTP or at least made the NRToolkit to say 'ADB device found'.
My fastboot screen shows these details:
Fastboot mode
Product name grouper
Variant = grouper
HW Version – ER3
Bootloader version – 4.23
Baseband version – N/A
Serial number – 015d21d910141c0a

Lock State - unlocked
Please help.

[Help] Samsung J5 Prime (G570M) bootloader unlock

Hello,
I'll try to be as specific as I can with my steps, so sorry If you don't like the format (or if its not even allowed), it's the best way I can explain step by step everything I did.
so... what do I want to do? Simply install some custom ROM to my SM-G570M so I can get rid of all the bloatware.
What's stopping me from doing it like I did it before? well...
>I flashed last version of TWRP via Odin
>Download mode (V- + Power + Home), Odin, the flash itself, everything went well, at least it appeared so
>When trying to load into it (V+ + Power + Home), I get a blue screen with android's logo and the words "Instaling system update"
>Immediately after I get another screen, this time android's logo is laying down, with a yellow ! above and the words "No command"
>Waiting a few seconds will get me to Android Recovery (the clasic move with Volume select with Power menu) with this in it:
#fail to open recovery_cause(No such file or directory)#
#Reboot recovery cause is [UNKNOWN]#
No support SINGLE-SKU

this is when things get interesting (that is, frustrating af)
>Phone boots fine, but OEM Unlock is not available. Not even greyed out, not even locked. It's not there at all
>I Google about it and try about... 50 different "solutions"
>Change system date to 7+ days to the past and trigger a false Update lookout, restart... nothing
>Triggered Update lookouts twice to make the sure the phone "knows" I searched for it 10 days ago and today... nothing
>I Literally write the steps down and start superpermutating that **** for around two hours... nothing
>Some other random non-Samsung, non-my-phone-specific "solutions"... nothing
>I come across adb (never used it before, never had to)
>It claimed I could do the OEM Unlock from Windows cmd
>I download adb 15 seconds installer, adb and fastboot drivers (both), I already had Samsung specific USB drivers, everything I need
>open CMD and do adb devices

>adb reboot bootloader
>it boots there, n i c e
>fastboot devices
>... nothing
>fastboot device, maybe it was without the s
>stuck in waiting for device
>close everything, start again
>this time I do directly fastboot OEM unlock
>waiting for device
here I'll explain what I saw in Device Manager in all my adb odyssey:
Drivers are recognized in its normal state (that is, phone connected, no dev ****, just using it) with its full name (Samsung J5 Prime bla bla bla). Besides that I have some Samsung USB Drivers showing as modems? idk why. Once I change my phone state (let's say, I do adb reboot bootloader) drivers completely dissapear. Not even showing as *Unrecognized !*, no "Android Device 1.0". It's not there at all. Only thing I see is is the usb modems? drivers.
And yes, I used every USB Port I have, the only thing it changes is a #n besides the modem drivers.
I did read you have to install drivers twice? Once in each state? I did so and nothing.
I did "Added Legacy Hardware", where I saw different ones: ADB Interface, Samsung ADB Interface, Bootloader Interface, etc. Added every single one of them, updated them (I even got the Google USB thing, it did nothing) Sometimes it would bring some error (Can't do that right now or something like that), sometimes "It's already the best we have", but still not regognizing it in cmd fastboot devices.
I also superpermutated every step I could, even doing things completely illogical. I didn't care, I stayed awake until 9AM doing it... and nothing
I did noticed, at around 5am, half asleep, that my "bootloader" window (in my phone) was... not... really... a bootloader? whenever I would adb reboot bootloader it would get me to the same Download Mode I would get by pressing V- + Power + Home. I dismissed it, not only it was really late, It could have just been a normal misunderstanding... you know, language barriers and such (I'm not english native, so I'm constantly reading things in practically two languages, maybe *Bootloader* and the *DW Mode* where actually the same and people are arbitrarily obtuse, I thought) but it still bothers me nonetheless.
I also tried, since, you know, all I want is a custom ROM, to play with Recovery Mode adb sideload? But I would always get some error 21 and other I didn't really catch.
That's my problem(s). I don't really know what to do, and I don't want to wait seven days (or more, because I read some people waiting for weeks) to have the actual OEM Unlock option in my Dev Options.
Can I get a hand with this? Is my bootloader even active? Can I even do OEM unlock in my current state? did I miss a driver, among the 100+ I downloaded even from dubious webs? Never worked with phones before so I'm practically new on this, last time I touched android I did perfectly flash TWRP through Odin and did everything from there.

Let me know if you untick the autorestart at odin when you wanna install twrp
Or seen:just enable OEM and usbdebug at dev option
Make sure that download right and latests version of twrp for your phone(so important)
And install that via odin and untick the autoreboot at odin( bc if you don't that android will uninstall it)
When you see the done message on odin unplug your phone and turn it off and after that try to go recovery mode by V+home and power
Hope that works

I made it long so I don't have to reply a hundred times to things I already did.
Yes, I did untick autorestart. No, I can't enable OEM Unlock (that's the problem I'm having), and usbdebug es required to use adb, so yes, I do have that enabled.
Can't do Odin, it always fails.

Hard Bricked OnePlus 6t Tmobile Version

I have a Tmobile OnePlus 6T, hard bricked.
Mine gives the usb device malfunctioned error. I have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the qualcomm usb drivers. It recognizes the phone in the device manager as USB DEVICE DESCRIPTION FAILED. The MSM tool wont recognize it, and my phone wont boot in any other mode except EDL. It will not boot to bootloader or anything. Funny thing is, all I was trying to do was convert the T-Mobile version to international which I've done before. During that process, it hung at "recording downloading time". I let it go for 20 minutes, according to the guide it is supposed to take 5. I canceled the process, (I had done this one other time before, and it booted just fine) and now nothing works. I am not a noob at this. I can restore through fastboot if I could get it to boot into fastboot. I could restore through recovery via sideload if I could get it to boot into recovery. Please help.
*Moderators, I have searched high and low through the forums and I cannot find a thread with this problem that has any steps to solve it. I found one thread with a similar description but it is a year old, has no replies and the author managed to fix his phone on his own, with no description of how he did so.*

The other of the previous post probably figured out how to get the device recognized by the computer. I would say see if you can use another computer/cable and see if it still has the same issue, if it does i'd probably be concerned about the device health. If the issue is gone on the other PC though then you likely have something wrong with either drivers or usb hardware on your PC. I would assume you've already tried using a different USB cable and port with your current PC.
