[Help] Samsung J5 Prime (G570M) bootloader unlock - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I'll try to be as specific as I can with my steps, so sorry If you don't like the format (or if its not even allowed), it's the best way I can explain step by step everything I did.
so... what do I want to do? Simply install some custom ROM to my SM-G570M so I can get rid of all the bloatware.
What's stopping me from doing it like I did it before? well...
>I flashed last version of TWRP via Odin
>Download mode (V- + Power + Home), Odin, the flash itself, everything went well, at least it appeared so
>When trying to load into it (V+ + Power + Home), I get a blue screen with android's logo and the words "Instaling system update"
>Immediately after I get another screen, this time android's logo is laying down, with a yellow ! above and the words "No command"
>Waiting a few seconds will get me to Android Recovery (the clasic move with Volume select with Power menu) with this in it:
#fail to open recovery_cause(No such file or directory)#
#Reboot recovery cause is [UNKNOWN]#
No support SINGLE-SKU

>I don't really know what to do, TWRP is nowhere to be seen
>I factory reset my phone (I don't really know why)
this is when things get interesting (that is, frustrating af)
>Phone boots fine, but OEM Unlock is not available. Not even greyed out, not even locked. It's not there at all
>I Google about it and try about... 50 different "solutions"
>Change system date to 7+ days to the past and trigger a false Update lookout, restart... nothing
>Triggered Update lookouts twice to make the sure the phone "knows" I searched for it 10 days ago and today... nothing
>I Literally write the steps down and start superpermutating that **** for around two hours... nothing
>Some other random non-Samsung, non-my-phone-specific "solutions"... nothing
>I come across adb (never used it before, never had to)
>It claimed I could do the OEM Unlock from Windows cmd
>I download adb 15 seconds installer, adb and fastboot drivers (both), I already had Samsung specific USB drivers, everything I need
>open CMD and do adb devices
>see my device there, nice
>adb reboot bootloader
>it boots there, n i c e
>fastboot devices
>... nothing
>fastboot device, maybe it was without the s
>stuck in waiting for device
>close everything, start again
>this time I do directly fastboot OEM unlock
>waiting for device
here I'll explain what I saw in Device Manager in all my adb odyssey:
Drivers are recognized in its normal state (that is, phone connected, no dev ****, just using it) with its full name (Samsung J5 Prime bla bla bla). Besides that I have some Samsung USB Drivers showing as modems? idk why. Once I change my phone state (let's say, I do adb reboot bootloader) drivers completely dissapear. Not even showing as *Unrecognized !*, no "Android Device 1.0". It's not there at all. Only thing I see is is the usb modems? drivers.
And yes, I used every USB Port I have, the only thing it changes is a #n besides the modem drivers.
I did read you have to install drivers twice? Once in each state? I did so and nothing.
I did "Added Legacy Hardware", where I saw different ones: ADB Interface, Samsung ADB Interface, Bootloader Interface, etc. Added every single one of them, updated them (I even got the Google USB thing, it did nothing) Sometimes it would bring some error (Can't do that right now or something like that), sometimes "It's already the best we have", but still not regognizing it in cmd fastboot devices.
I also superpermutated every step I could, even doing things completely illogical. I didn't care, I stayed awake until 9AM doing it... and nothing
I did noticed, at around 5am, half asleep, that my "bootloader" window (in my phone) was... not... really... a bootloader? whenever I would adb reboot bootloader it would get me to the same Download Mode I would get by pressing V- + Power + Home. I dismissed it, not only it was really late, It could have just been a normal misunderstanding... you know, language barriers and such (I'm not english native, so I'm constantly reading things in practically two languages, maybe *Bootloader* and the *DW Mode* where actually the same and people are arbitrarily obtuse, I thought) but it still bothers me nonetheless.
I also tried, since, you know, all I want is a custom ROM, to play with Recovery Mode adb sideload? But I would always get some error 21 and other I didn't really catch.
That's my problem(s). I don't really know what to do, and I don't want to wait seven days (or more, because I read some people waiting for weeks) to have the actual OEM Unlock option in my Dev Options.
Can I get a hand with this? Is my bootloader even active? Can I even do OEM unlock in my current state? did I miss a driver, among the 100+ I downloaded even from dubious webs? Never worked with phones before so I'm practically new on this, last time I touched android I did perfectly flash TWRP through Odin and did everything from there.

Too much long bro
Let me know if you untick the autorestart at odin when you wanna install twrp
Or seen:just enable OEM and usbdebug at dev option
Make sure that download right and latests version of twrp for your phone(so important)
And install that via odin and untick the autoreboot at odin( bc if you don't that android will uninstall it)
When you see the done message on odin unplug your phone and turn it off and after that try to go recovery mode by V+home and power
Hope that works

I made it long so I don't have to reply a hundred times to things I already did.
Yes, I did untick autorestart. No, I can't enable OEM Unlock (that's the problem I'm having), and usbdebug es required to use adb, so yes, I do have that enabled.
Can't do Odin, it always fails.

[Q] New Nexus 7, Win 7, Nexus 7 Toolkit can't boot into Fastboot, "Too Many Links"
SOLVED!
So I went ahead, tried flashing the stock recovery, no joy (no recovery menu at all - just a bad-android image). After a while, tried flashing CWM touch (via Toolkit) - and now it's working. So, everything seems good now.
----------------
UPDATE 5 - PARTIALLY SOLVED:
So, after the last couple of things, I began to suspect bad hardware, as I alluded in those updates. And I was right.
But... it wasn't the hardware you might have thought.
It was...
(this is embarrassing)
The USB cable.
Yes, the USB cable. It was the wild variations in recognizing the fastboot mode that made me suspicious. Replaced the USB cable with another one and... stability, achieved. Unlock, root, recovery program and SU program all went without a hitch. In fastboot mode, for the first time, the device serial number shows.
HOWEVER - things are not perfect. The recovery mode from the bootloader still gives the bad-android icon.
I just used the toolkit to reflash stock recovery back to the device. This completed rapidly, without error. I then tried the recovery option in the bootloader, but again, no joy.
So at this point, I point a finger partly at the tools used to flash this - they claim there is no problem, yet the flash doesn't take at all, and no error is given. As a sometimes firmware developer, I'm used to flash being followed up by a checksum or other test to verify success of the flash. Is that not being done (shame, if not). If it is, then apparently the flash works, but the software being flashed doesn't? The stock recovery???
Any ideas on how to get this back? I just did the full unlock, which wiped all user data, and proceeded from there. I now have a solid connection, but don't really know how to get things back.
Perhaps I need to manually reinstall 4.2.2?
----------------
UPDATE 4:
So, on a lark, from fastboot in Android, I selected the "Recovery" option - it starts to boot that, then gives the Android with red triangle and exclamation point. So, looks like the recovery was toasted.
This was a brand new device earlier today. It has been completely wiped twice, and none of this has gone away. Seriously: bad device?
-----------------------
UPDATE 3:
So, I thought I'd try the direct approach, as outlined here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741395
Device is in Fastboot, Device Manager shows it as ok.
I run fastboot flash recovery <file> -- and IMMEDIATELY get "fastboot has stopped working" - that's right, a hard crash in fastboot. And this is repeatable.
Am I wrong in thinking this looks more and more like a driver problem? I note that fastboot is recognized as a device maybe half the time - the other half, it gets an exclamation point in Device Manger. All I do then is restart the bootloader using the bootloader menu, and usually it fixes right up. But that's obviously a huge red flag, as the device should be recognized every time.
Is this a defective Nexus? The only thing that seems dicey is anything relating to fastboot/bootloader (which is, however, unlocked - or at least it says it is).
----------------
UPDATE 2: Using the "restart bootloader" in fastboot results in slightly worse non-recognition of the device. When I do that, I get a straight "USB Device Not Recognized" from windows - the device manager doesn't even show "Android Phone" as a class of device in this case.
---------------------
UPDATE 1: I found the thread talking about missing entries in the INF file. I added these, and got a somewhat, but not entirely, stable recognition of the Nexus 7 when in fastboot mode. Basically, sometimes it is recognized, other times it is not. By "recognized", I mean that the Windows Device Manager shows the device as "Android Bootloader Interface", with no indication of a problem (which it only does in fastboot mode - it shows as a composite ADB device when booted normally).
However - it seems it fails to recognize fastboot about half the time, although it seems that that is related to reboots - that is, a fresh boot, then going to fastboot through adb seems to work. But restarting fastboot manually fails to be recognized (Windows shows a bang by the "Android Bootloader Interface", and says the device "failed to start").
So, using 4.3.5 Nexus 7 toolkit, I tried to unlock the bootloader. Windows recognized fastboot mode, but the process errored out anyway, after maybe 15 seconds, saying "Too Many Links" - the same error as before.
Again, brand new 32gb wi-fi-only Nexus 7, with 4.2.2 update and the most basic configuration only (dev mode, usb on, etc.)
Any ideas?
-------------------------------------------------------
ORIGINAL
So this is a new, out of the box nexus 7. The only setup has been to connect to wifi, update to 4.2.2, and enable developer mode and USB debugging.
Running latest paid-for toolkit - Update 29 Feb 13, version 4.3.5
Just about everything requires the insecure fastboot, but every time I try any operation that attempts it, I get:
Booting into fastboot mode
downloading 'boot.img' ...
FAILED <status read failed <Too many links>>
I basically can't do anything - in this case, I was trying to backup.
It is being done on 64-bit win7 system that had drivers, and worked for another nexus 7 a couple months ago. But, just to be safe, I uninstalled the drivers, rebooted, and installed.
However, I see this on the home page of the toolkit:
FASTBOOT MODE [If serial shows, drivers are installed]
List of Devices attached
ADB Mode
List of devices attached
<numeric code> device
From this, it seems I should expect the word "serial" to show up if the drivers are installed?
I then unplugged the Nexus, refreshed the menu, and both Fastboot and ADB show no devices.
I then plug in the nexus - I get the usual two tone "device attached" sound, no warning or error message from Windows.Checking the Windows device manager, I see a section "Android Phone" with the entry "Android Composite ADB Interface". There are no unknown devices, which would seem then that drivers are working.
So, another refresh of the main menu, and again, I see, under ADB MODE, a single device ID number, and the word "device".
I don't know what to make of this. Apparently, per the "if serial shows" message in the main menu, drivers a NOT installed. But according to Windows, they are.
This perhaps matches the fastboot failure.
Should I see "serial"?
In any case, what do I do to get the drivers to work properly if they aren't?
And if they ARE working, then what is wrong with fastboot?
At this point, I think the toolkit is broken, and worked a couple months ago.
No, you should not see "serial". Your devices serial number should be displayed under whichever path is valid at that time. If you are in the bootloader, your device serial number should be under "fastboot". If you are booted normally, your device serial number should be under "ADB".
I used this guide:

I've since figured that out. There was nothing at all, when in fastboot mode, only ADB. But then I found the thread describing two missing INF entries. I added those, updated the driver, and now the fastboot mode (which wasn't even recognized by windows) is now ok in the Device Manager. However, in the main menu, it shows, literally, "??????????" instead of a serial number - that is, there are question marks instead of serial number, Following that, a few spaces and then "fastboot".
Apparently, there are still inadequacies in the driver as relates to very, very new models running 4.2.2 (which this is).
BTW, I do believe I read somewhere that the stock recovery initially comes up with just the android on his back with the warning sign. You then have to hold power and tap volume up or something like that and the recovery menu becomes visible. I could be wrong, I know I had to do this on my old GNex, and those were the steps that worked.

Interesting. I did re-flash the stock recovery, and could get that without the android image.

That may have been a GNex thing that I am remembering. Either way, I'm glad you got everything all straightened out. :good:
I'm still kinda new at this stuff too, but if you need any more help, feel free to hit me up. Even if I don't know the answer to the question, I'll help you find it.

[Q] Bell D803 constant re-boot

A bit of an SOS situation if anyone knows the right steps please
Well, I restored a Titanium Backup and mistakenly toggled the "restore system apk". It ran fine, all restored and then when I rebooted got stuck.
By "stuck", it re-boots constantly. It shows the LG animation, then all I can see is two messages before it starts booting again:
1) "Unfortunately, Google Play Services Has Stopped"
2) "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped
... and then it does the entire boot sequence, animation, again, and again.
Here is what I can do:
* It is in USB debug mode.
* I have drivers on laptop
* I am able to connect with adb and also shell into phone.
* With adb, I have output to the file an "adb bugreport" as well as an "adb logcat".
* I have several backups:
a) The modemsst1.img and modemsst2.img created by Titanium Backup
b) Titanium backups (full apps and data)
c) an "adb backup - all" backup
* I managed to get it into firmware update mode by pressing the volume up button and the power button and then when it flashed red a few times, just the up button. So, I can get it into Firmware update mode.
Of course, I have never really used adb before, except to dabble a bit. So, I am encouraged that I can somehow get into with shell.
I am not unplugging it until I know what to do!
Since then I have been able to turn the phone off and also put it into charging on USB.
This is what worked:
* Hold down power and volume down button until booting stops and phone turns off completely.
When it does shut down, I kept buttons down until it flashes logo again and then shuts down again. Then I let go. Phone is off and when I plugged in the charger it shows charging animation.
Now, after inspecting the bugreport, I noticed a lot of these messages for all the system apps like this one:
"I/PackageManager(21318): Expecting better updatd system app for com.lge.sizech"
I think the cause of all this shralp is this, I did a LG Mobile Support Tool "Upgrade Recovery" and then in Titanium Backup I restored an older backup (incl system apks). At least that makes sense seeing all the "Expecting better apdat system app" messages in the bugreport.
Still not sure what to do next
I tried the very good instructions here:
[Guide] Unroot/Unbrick - flash official factory firmware with LG Launche
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471370
The update succeeded. However, when I rebooted the phone it is in the same boot-loop with message that it was before.
I used the BELL D803B10D_00.kdz file. Now I will try with the earlier version BELL D803BA_00.kdz file.
We will see what happens ...
do you have nandroid backup from previous rom?
I have three backups:
1) Titanium Backup (full)
* This was my first backup performed right after rooting device and installing Titanium Backup.
2) Titanium Backup (full)
* Did this 2 days ago. Device was working OK and did as precaution.
3) ADB BACKUP. I did this one before my Titanium restore.
I restored the first titanium backup and that (ooooppps!) was after I did an LG Firmware update.
ALSO:
I am on Windows 7 64 and although adb works fine, fastboot does not. I understand that might be a problem with windows 7 64.
So, unless anyone objects, I am going to redo on my windows 32 machine and also "fastbook oem unlock".
Since firmware is OK, if I do the fastboot oem unlock, that will wipe everything. But I can still boot and re-setip the phone, right?
Just checking before I fudge everything up here ..
ALSO ALSO:
I had antivirus/theft security installed and I disabled it partway through last restore.
Maybe that has somethng to do with this all .
But I am still cool because I can ADB and also firmware install seems ok.
ADB works and that is the one good sign.
or you can follow ADB Sideload method

I don't (didn't) have TWRP installed. How can I sideload without it?
Also, should I adb oem unlock to get it wiped at this point?
I'm having a similar problem on a Bell D803. Just happened very randomly today. I turned my phone off for an exam, then turned it back on after.. initially had no signal and a black background. Settings for factory reset wouldn't work. My phone is rooted and has TWRP. I went into recovery and formatted.
Bootloop.
Bootloop.
Bootloop x 20.
I however, don't get the same two messages. I just keep bootlooping.
Got home, tried to go through download mode to unbrick it, but for some reason my computer isn't picking it up. I have all the drivers, and before this incident, it was recognized.
Any solutions?
I'm thinking of buying an OTG USB and then just flashing a stock zip from recovery. Would that be a possible viable solution?

Well, I am able to connect with adb fine on my laptop (Win 7 64) but not on my desktop (Win 7 32)
But on my Win 7 64 I cannot get into fastboot.
I am wondering if the driver install on my desktop went foo-bar and needs reinstall. Also, I noticed that the website drivers are more recent USB drivers than some of the ones linked on this site.
I used adb uninstall package for many user packages and it was success. But I still see the packages listed in the bugreport?
For example: I already uninstalled "com.benhirashima.skiplock" and also "com.lookout".
Why? What to do to really zap them for good?
Sorry, I posted the wrong link earlier.
This was the guide I used which succeeded but made no difference to the boot-loop.

Succesfully flashed the stock firmware that came with the phone when sold.
Did hard reset using the the power button and volume down
= phone rebooting every 10 seconds, no wifi, imei = null
adb devices = offline.
Really depressed right now. If anybody can help me I would appreciate it.

Press the power button down and hold it.
It should turn off, then look like it is turning on, (flash logo very briefly) and then turn off.
Let go of power button and it should stay off.
Do that. Now, does it work to turn off completely?
Let's see if you can do that first.
Then .. do hard reset, exactly like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ogBvzbPikc
Does the hard reset screen show and give you hard reset options?

Let's see if you can do that first.

Yup. I totally understand what you are saying and have done it many times. I had to use that method to get into download mode and also had to use it to do hard reset.
I just reflashed the phone all over again a second time succesfully.
Reboots every 5 seconds. Keyboard came up for a few seconds for the first time in 48 hours during the initial setup phase. 5 seconds later as I was trying to input a wifi code it would not appear. then it rebooted as usual.
I really appreciate any input right now. :cyclops::crying:

1) Are you able to completely turn it off using my instructions?
2) When you hard reset (2nd half of this video), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ogBvzbPikc
a) Does the hard reset screen show?
b) Does it give you the hard reset options?
3) Before it was bricked, was it in 'usb debug mode' in developer options?
4) Which kpz version did you restore to?
5) Did your "adb devices" ever work? Did your "adb shell" ever work?

1) Yes absolutely. It is sitting next to me right now doing nothing at all because I turn it off when I am not trying to fix it, otherwise it keeps rebooting relentlessly.
2) a) Yes, same as the video. b) Yes it says the same exact thing as the video. I press power key twice and it begins. The stock recovery android appears with a loading bar on the bottom for ~1 minute then it goes to the boot "lg animation".
3) Yes it was. Before it was bricked I essentially always had it in debug mode because I successfully rooted it and simply left it on debugging mode after having to activate it to root.
4) D801V11B_00.kdz The EXACT same as the original. This is a Videotron (canadian) phone. I can clearly remember without a doubt going into about phone and this is what it was running before all of this happened.
5) I am having a bit of memory strain here, but I do believe it also said adb devices before any of the issues came. It is a good point I will try "adb device" from another trusted computer.
Other notes: I can browse the android os for a few seconds. Sometimes sound does not work, wifi is non functional (even though the keyboard never appears, I managed to have a security free wifi in my proximity and it would not connect (was saying: temporarily avoiding bad signal)) and also I do have modemstat1.img and modemstat2.img backups for EFS.
adb devices consistently shows "offline" but it is definitely recognizing the phone. I have also tried using usb debugging activated and still "offline". Drivers are up to date and all.
The upper drawer in the usual g2 user interface is strange now. it doesnt have anything except for the date (1970 something...) and a "gear" icon for system settings. I am talking the drawer you drag down from the top of the screen.
This phone was working with absolutely no problems 2 days ago.
Thank you so much for looking into this. I have certainly exhausted my repairing capacities. I am entirely dependent upon the knowledgeable individuals in here from here on out.

Hmmmm..... why your adb devices is not working? But the re-pair works and you can then do hard reset.
But that is good information you shared.
Maybe someone else can chime in.
From my experience:
1) adb usb access seems spotty. My win 7 64 connected fine and it even kept the shell through the reboot cycle. But on my win 7 32 machine it was only detecting device and then not able to shell.
2) I was also able to use from the LG website LG MOBILE SUPPORT TOOLS.
Download the LG MOBILE SUPPORT TOOL
I downloaded the most recent one from the LG website and make sure to select your options >> country and then the correct phone model at the upper right hand corner of the tool.
Then install USB driver for correct phone model.
Then see if USB works, "adb device" should return the device code.
"adb shell" should show the shell prompt.
3) There is always fastboot. But I an noob and know 0% about how to properly connect and use it.
Some others please chime in and help this droid bro!

Problems Reverting to Stock

I briefly took over another thread where this issue didn't belong, but since I am still having issues, I thought I would start my own thread. Okay, so I am on Sprint, sideloaded several of the updates, including most recently the Oreo Beta. I have been very happy with the beta, and was looking forward to the update due this week. However, yesterday evening I dropped the phone on the sidewalk and it cracked very badly, and as I am paying insurance with Sprint I want to bring it to a store and have it fixed. Not only is the screen badly cracked, but the keyboard is acting up a bit also.
Anyway, I was getting advice on the Oreo thread about how to do this, and as I said, I had hijacked the thread, but I was at work and didn't get to try this until tonight when I got home. Anyway, I had originally plan to just find the Ota and sideload it, but it was recommend that I use flashall and the full image file from the Essential site. I tried to do that, but when I restart the phone to get into Bootloader mode, it disappeared from the list of devices visible on my desktop and via adb. It was a bit disturbing to me as I am not used to working in Bootloader, previously did anything like this via recovery, and I wasn't sure how to exit the bootloader, but I chose power off, and saw a weird screen with what looked like a coffee cup, and eventually the phone rebooted and seems unchanged at the moment.
I still want to revert to the sprint nougat before I bring the phone in, but I admit I am a little nervous now about the best way to do this. I could use some suggestions. I hope this post is not too long-winded, but I wanted to explain as much of what has happened as possible.

Just an FYI, I found that putting Oreo on the phone resulted in ADB not working 100% anymore, such as attempting to reboot into recovery/etc. It would just reboot back into the O.S..
Here is what I did to flash the stock firmware.
- download the current release you want to flash. (e.g. NMJ32F), then unzip it into a new folder.
- on your phone, verify that USB debugging and OEM unlocking are turned on in the developers menu.
- reboot your phone into the fastboot mode (power and volume down buttons)
- from your adb command line: type: fastboot flashing unlock
- This will make your phone show a new screen asking if you want to unlock the bootloader. Use the volume down to select YES, and hit the power button. It will now reboot and erase the phone. It will eventually end up booting up too request you setup the phone. (that is what it did for me.)
- reboot the phone back into the fastboot mode (power and volume down buttons)
- you should now see the bootloader listed as unlocked (vs locked)
- from your adb command line: type: fastboot devices (which should show your phones serial number and fastboot next too it.
- on your computer, using the command line, go to the unzipped folder of the NMJ32F build you downloaded
- in the folder there is a batch file you will run called flashall.bat. run it
- your phone will start flashing the NMJ32F build
- when it completes it will reboot a couple of times, erase the phone, and end up at the "lets get started" screen.
- reboot the phone back to the fastboot mode
- from your adb command line: type: fastboot flashing lock
- select the option to lock your bootloader. The phone will reboot/erase I believe, and then end up back to the "lets get started" screen.
- after you setup your phone, you can go back into the developers menu to turn off the oem unlocking
The above steps pretty much follow essentials instructions. (the essential instructions don't give some specifics.)
You are all done. (I recommend you review my instructions and the essential instructions carefully, don't copy paste commands as I may have spelled something wrong, etc.. Just wanted to give you a flow of the process.)
I was following those directions, but what happens is that though the phone appears as a device in adb before rebooting, once I reboot into fastboot mode, it is no longer listed. I also noticed that when tried to reboot the phone into bootloader mode with an adb command, instead, it did a regular reboot, and when it did that reboot, it again was no longer listed as a device, because it went into charging mode. So I'm not sure how to keep this from happening.

The reason why the adb command (to go into bootloader mode) didn't work is it is broken when you installed Oreo, that is why you need to do it manually.
When you put your phone into fastboot mode (power button / volume down) plug in your phone into your computer, and from command prompt (make sure you are in the adb folder), type fastboot devices (don't type adb devices) and see if anything replies back.

Thanks, I understand now. I can't start this tonight, but I will try the again next time I have time at the desktop.
You are probably missing the phone's driver. Download this, Essential device driver for Windows machines. Supports 32/64 bit on Windows 7, 8 and 10., from the essential developer site and install it.
damn it, I read somewhere that there are problems while using adb on the current official beta. There was a command for getting connection again. But I can't find it right now.
Just to be clear. when the phone is on, you enabled USB debugging and plugged in the USB cable and checked the tickbox before you granted debugging access, right? If you don't check the box, there is no access granted after a phone reboot.
take care, I had problems getting through the initial phone setup after I did a factory reset. The Oreo beta still has some hickups. I got it to work after a few reboots. Without finishing the intial phone setup you can't enable USB debugging, you know.

Good point on the driver, I wasn't even thinking about that.
Well, my phone was being read when I previously sideloaded updates, so I think I have the right drivers, but I will double check. Can anyone suggest why the phone keeps defaulting to charging mode rather than file transfer every time I reboot it?

that's a typical android habit. charging mode is default.
did you checked the tickbox when debugging window is appearing?

Yes, I did, thanks. Trying to reply and it doesn't appear. Edit: Sorry for the multiple posts, they all appeared at once.
Okay, I am back to this now, I had time today. I installed the windows drivers from the Essential site (I am running Windows 10 64 bit) and the device was recognized in fastboot devices. The phone wiped my data and restarted with a setup screen. So far, so good. So I shut down the phone again, turned it on again in fastboot mode, it was unlocked. I went into a CMD screen and typed fastboot devices, and the phone was still listed there. So I opened windows explorer and got to the folder where I had unpacked the image files and also copied the flashboot file. I right-clicked the flashall.bat file, chose run as administrator. When I did this, I got a bunch of error messages that went by so fast, they were practically impossible to read, though they seem to say something about files not found. I didn't see any log file in the folder, so I guess they are not created. I went back to the Essential site and downloaded the zip file with the correct image files again and tried a second time, with the same results. Anyway I have wiped my phone, but still have not reinstalled the Sprint nougat software I need on this phone. Any other suggestions?
Okay, I tried again, and I was able to read the error message. They all said cannot load "filename" no such file or directory. It sounds like some kind of path error, right? I expanded the file from the Essential download for build Build NMI81C into their own directory, a subdirectory of a library where I have been keeping various android files, and I copied the flashboot file into the same directory from the platform-tools download, but only that file. That seems to be what instructions specify.
Also, I notice on this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/development/stock-7-1-1-nmj20d-t3701681/page3 it mentions also using the command "fastboot flashing unlock_critical" but I do not see that elsewhere.
I was able to get flashall to run using the command prompt instead of Windows Explorer. It seemed to run okay, except a couple of items cause me some concern.
I got a message "FAILED (remote: Flashing is not allowed for Critical Partitions)" for the abl.img file.
And the other command "Did you mean to fashboot format this ext4 partition".
Are either of these a problem?
Try running the commands one at a time. Open the flash-all.sh in a text editor and copy the commands.
As I said in my last message, I was able to get Flashall to work when I ran it in the CMD prompt rather than in windows explorer (which is how it was done in the video posted on Youtube, but didn't work for me). My only concern at this point is whether I should be concerned about the two commands posted in the email.
Interestingly enough, my phone did an update to the build NMJ32F as soon as I started it up.

No I didn't. It was not mentioned by anyone but me in this thread until you did.
So far I have received no error messages since I did the reversion to stock. As I said,
I did get an update almost immediately.

My experience with FRP lock and how I solved it...

So my nephew brings me his galaxy s6 t-mobile phone... He forgot his lock pin so he factory reset it. Now he can no longer get into the phone because he doesnt know the correct email or password. I did some digging through the net watched a few videos... and found none of the methods they used to bypass the lock would work on his phone. Then I read about the Combination Rom (Factory Binary)... At this time I do not have any windows pc's and my VM will not read the usbs of the phone... (im not that experienced with vm to set this up) So i grabbed JOdin for linux and proceeded to try to flash the binary. However, JOdin did not work for me. So i found Heimdall and installed to learn that i had to find some weird way to run it as SU for it to work... Tho Heimdall worked like a charm.... With Heimdall I had to take the rom and completely extract it to a folder and find all the img files in it to install on heimdal like sboot, boot, cm, system, and quite a few others as well.I used the "PIT" file from the combination rom (which came in the download). When done installing the phone boots into Factory Binary... Interesting little rom... From here you can access settings, tho the instructions tell you to enable developer options and turn on usb debugging... in this rom they are set on by default i believe, so that was kind of a waste of time... then from the main menu you click the icon that looks like a calculator and type in "*#0808# where you are then presented with usb options. Select the last one on the list with adb at the end of it, click save and reboot. At this point I thought i was supposed to install the stock rom back (that was where i was lost) however all you have to do is let it boot back to binary. After it has reloaded... plug it into the pc and send it the proper adb instructions to disable frp lock. Techeligible has a batch file for use in windows, however if you dont have windows like me that does no good... So I went into the batch file with a text reader and extracted the information i needed ( 3 adb commands). In terminal i made sure my adb and fastboot were updated and working. I learned that when you type "adb devices" it will show the phone and if it says nothing else you are good to go. However it may give you a problem with permissions. If this is the case then unplug and make sure usb debuggin is on, you can also check that the adb is enabled again by doing the *#0808# command again and make sure the last selection is checked. When all is in order... At first I thought all commands must work for it to succeed... However this is not true at all. Only one of the adb commands will not give an error and at that time you can reboot into download mode and install the stock rom back on. After installation the phone will reboot and FRP Lock is no longer on... Now you can go into settings open up developer settings (tap build number till it unlocks) and select "OEM Unlock" and turn it on. Make sure usb debugging is on and you can boot back into download mode and install TWRP without a hitch.
I tried installing a couple of custom roms, however I have had no success with getting one to boot. (always stuck in boot loop even with wipe or factory reset) so I gave up and left him with the stock rom. If anyone has any idea of how i could get passed the bootloop maybe i can try again for him sometime and see how he likes various custom roms, but now he is happy he has his phone back working and it only took me a week of off and on frustration to figure it out... Hope this helps someone... (please dont ask for links) but if you do need help or have questions feel free to ask.

Issues with Recovery Mode, Bootlooping, Flashing, EDL, and ADB Commands

Not sure how to title this forum post, but this is the best I got. Forgive my ignorance and lack of knowledge on these topics.
I was trying to root my Axon 7 mini. After some searching to find out how to unlock the bootloader (like needing JDK, older Android SDK version to run android.bat, etc.), I finally got it to work. Ran Recovery to "apply update from SD Card" (can not remember the file right now) and was then ready to load TWRP Recovery. When I rebooted to the recovery TWRP image, it told me something failed and the phone had to be factory reset. I took my SD card out in fear of my data being deleted and "accidentally" clicked the power button. It then reloaded with a password prompt where I typed some random password (1234 because I never set a pin password nor knew what to do here), clicked submit, and then gave me some error; now my phone doesn't work.
The Problem:
- I can enter bootloader, sometimes, but can only run fastboot commands; adb device does not detect phone so can't run adb commands (always says the server is old or something and reloads daemon successfully but never finds my device regardless). Also, I don't think I can get it to run in EDL mode; MiFlash gives out errors too when trying to flash recovery images.
- Recovery mode doesn't appear or work; not sure if the MiFavor command prompts on the phone is recovery or not, but it's safe to say this no longer appears. This is also where I believe the phone bootloops. I can get the fastboot commands to flash a TWRP recovery, but it never actually enters the TWRP dashboard.
- Can not turn off the phone... I think. None of the command options that appear on-phone shut it off; however, when the screen does stay black, I'm not sure if it's in EDL mode or plainly off.
- Device Manager shows the phone as different stuff (namely Kedacom USB Device and Portable Devices/MTB USB Device). Sometimes Qualcomm appears, but it depends. More often than not, when my device does appear, there's either an error code (like Code 10, Code 43) and/or the device is grayed out.
Conclusion:
I just want to get my phone to work normally again, if possible. Currently, I locked the oem to see if fastboot commands could still work and now I'm stuck at the ZTE logo, so can't try to unlock it right now. What are the proper tools, drivers, programs, etc I need to get this phone back to normal? I've scoured the web and these forums for 2 days now with no luck and lots of either missing info or obscure info.
I bought this at Best Buy, so I'm assuming it's US Axon7 Mini version in terms of drivers (not sure if the box specifies any info that could be useful here).
Un-brick Axon 7 Mini
Dear all,
I experienced the same issue with my phone after I tried to flash it with custom ROMs and recovery.
I thought I lost it as I was not able to enter adb mode (not recognized on the PC) or even not able to enter EDL mode with the button combination so not able to do anything with it.
Only watch it boot and display the ZTE logo.
After some research, here is what I had to do to get it recovered.
First thing you need to get is an EDL cable.
I let you search on your favorite site. Mine was a Generic eDL Deep Flash Qualcomm 9008 Cable 2 in 1 for Z3 X/Octopus.
Until you receive it, make sure you have the latest Qualcomm drivers installed on your PC.
You can find it easily.
Then, connect your phone and your PC with the EDL cable.
Press the button on your EDL cable (there should be one) for a few seconds and keep it pressed.
Then, press the power button and keep it pressed for at least 20 seconds.
At this stage, you should have both buttons pressed and after some time, you should feel the phone rebooting.
After 20 seconds, release the power button.
Then, after 10 other seconds, release the EDL cable button.
At this stage, your phone screen should stay black and your phone should appear in the device manager as Qualcomm USBHUB (or somehting similar)
You are in EDL mode and should be able to perform a recovery flashing using tuliptool.
Then I followed the steps I found here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7-mini/how-to/updating-uk-version-zte-axon-7-mini-to-t3717933
If you are still stuck, pm me.
Be patient, all will be fine,

I had a feeling an EDL cable was my only option left given everything I've looked up and the multiple methods I've tried. Wanted to avoid spending money on one but doesn't look like I have a choice given the circumstances - oh well. Regardless, thank you for the response and advice. Have to wait a while, though, to get the cable and test to see if this works.
If anyone else ever ends up in the same royally screwed situation as me, getting an EDL cable - or DIY one if you wanna be cheap and are confident enough to do so - is probably your saving grace.
