I know this is a bit ahead of times, but I'd love to know what other people think about this topic: on OP6 when notch is hidden the top and bottom corners have very different radius, making the display look aymmetric (and unpleasant in my humble opinion).
Does anyone have any insight on how will this feature be implemented on OP6T and whether the top and bottom corners will look symmetrical or not?
That’s a good question.
But given the fact that notch is little bigger diameter in ups-down aspect than chin bezel again would be asymmetrical even much less than 6.
The only way to be sympathetic is chin bezel being thicker.
And that’s not gone happen as designed has finalized long time ago with 6T.

And let’s see if OnePlus eventually offer option of hiding notch.
I’m having my doubts that would be such a choice.

I had OP1 and OP3 and would love to buy this OP6T, but I simply can't stand smartphones with notch; I hate looking at that little black dot that pops down from the top frame.
I strongly hope that OP will give us an option to hide it in the same way or better than OP6!

Exactly.
Without notches hiding choices simple return it back.

At least this is a baby notch to compare to others like to pixel 3XL which is gigantic!

Of course Pixel notch is hilarious.
But again no matter the size notch is a notch hope OnePlus provide option of hiding it.
I really don’t like the idea of having at middle top of the device anything but only pure screen.

There might not be a notch hiding feature this time around. Believe me once u start using it you won't notice it any more.
Well hope will be either a workaround here by community even root required or hope some third party app through play store be a solution.
I've seen some app throuth play store.
It's impossible to me to get used to it.
My eye will go natural all time to that point of the screen as something distraction of my attension.
It’s the same situation as having even 1 dead pixel through screen on any kind device(smartphone, tablet etc)
Eyes naturally go straight to that point.
I completely agree with @paatha13, notch is not an option for me.
Obviously I do not blame anyone who says that you can get used to it, I also understand that the new 'drop shape' notch is less intrusive but... it *is* intrusive still; I completely agree with the dead pixels metaphor.
I am a bit sensitive to aesthetics, was a UI designer once upon a time, and simply hate that thing.
I can just hope that the new OxygenOS will give users an option, but am beginning to look around for a device without notch (S9 and XZ3 seem to be the best alternatives right now).
I do not have a phone with a notch, yet. So, I do not quite understand, what you mean by "the top and bottom corners have very different radius, making the display look aymmetric".
Can you please explain it or does anyone have a photo of this effect? I can't quite image the problem.

You can see what's being discussed by Google searching how to disable the notch on OnePlus 6. Once the search is done click on images. There's a GIF that the has the 6 flashing back and forth from showing the notch to hiding the notch.
Here is the thread about this topic on OnePlus forums: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/unbalanced-screen-corners-when-hiding-notch.862798, with pictures explaining the issue.
Ah, thank you.
I should not have asked for it. Probably, I wouldnt ever have noticed this difference.
However, I'll probably always be bothered by that difference now.

Looking at pictures, I see above the transparent strip there are some dots and then the screen starts. Can someone who's seen this phone outside tell if the bottom bezel feels too wide. This can make it very uncomfortable for the thumb as it has to stretch all the time to even get to most used apps on launcher.
It could get even worse with ICS update as ICS wastes another small strip of the bottom screen for the soft buttons plus getting to the top of the screen will get even harder if bezel is wider at the bottom. Already, ICS stock browser sucks as you have to stretch your fingers couple of time to just hit refresh page.
One thing that p**#@#* me off about most android phones is all manufacturers stopped thinking about the ergonomics of design. One of the main reason I love Arc is how short the bezel is at the bottom making the phone very comfortable on thumb.

I actually find Arc's bottom bezel too narrow. I keep archiving Gmail messages accidentally!!
That's personal preference of course.
So, my suggestion is, calm down, and wait for the phone to be released, head to a local shop that has it demonstrated and hold it yourself to see if it suits you. Also, SE will probably not use the on-screen buttons since their devices have physical buttons.
Last but not least, there are already a few threads here regarding the 2012 devices, so you should have posted your concern there and not start yet another thread.

Everyone has their opinions but I thought this might need it's own thread to get Sony attention. Who knows they might now seriously think about not having the soft ICS buttons after reading your post.

The alpha ICS ROM that SE published here doesn't include on-screen buttons. So I am pretty sure that this will be the case for the final version too.
Also events if SE decides to read through xda forums for feedback, it would still be better if it were to be found in one place instead of numerous threads.
And that's more of a practical issue than an opinion.

That may be the reason it feels so big as the iPhone is so small. The value of the gs3 won't depreciate rapidly, so I would hang on to it and try it for another week or 2 before you try to sell it. :good:
Good luck. And P.S. You can get a thin case like the speck pixel hd or even a cruzerlite case from amazon.

The case you want is a D30 with cutouts for the buttons. Not sure what the model number is...(not printed on the box)...but it is really slim.

that is right oh well i tried.
I actually think it is not big enough. I have the Note but it was too wide for one-handed use, so when I saw the specs for the S3, I said 4.8 should be just right compared to the Note's 5.3 inch screen. But I have to admit I was a bit disappointed, I was expecting the S3 to be a slightly bigger. I see now that the phone is taller but still rather narrow. Don't get me wrong, though, I am loving the phone compared to my iPhone 4, so I am still happy overall! Now if the rumors turn out to be true about the Note 2, bigger screen but narrower and similar to the S3 in terms of curves, then it will definitely be my next phone.
I suggest getting the flygrip. It's a finger grip and a kickstand. You stick it on the back of the phone and the adhesive will keep it in place. You'll never worry about dropping it and with your fingers in the position they are, you'll be able to reach all corners of the screen with ease. You can check it out at
Flygrip.com
Qbking also did a review on it

But the screen sizes are a huge difference. He can probably reach the whole iPhone screen with half his thumb extended. While the gs3 takes a while thumb and a slide of the hand.
Deebo took your bike too?!
Get apex launcher or Nova. They have a setting where you can swipe down anywhere on your home screens and the notification toggle slides down. That way you dont have to reach to the top so much.
Hi guys,
I plan to purchase this week a Nexus 7 16GB. Based on the reads, the device could have 2 issues: screen lifting and dead pixels. Can you please let me know if the screen lifting was visible when you actually opened the box or it started to pop after a while? I plan to go at local shop and open the case in front of the salesman, to check for those issues.
If you have any other tips I should check for, please let me know (i.e look for a specific build number etc.). Thanks.

That's a little unnecessary in my opinion. Yeah some people had that problem but it was a small percentage and opening it on front of them isn't going to change anything other than the fact that you can return it faster if something IS wrong with it. But I'm guaranteeing there won't be anything wrong with it

Ya... the idea is to save time and exchange it right away, in case I'm "lucky" to get one device that might have issues.
I was nervous too. I bought one today and it turned out perfect. I believe you would be able to see the lifting almost immediately .

I didn't notice the separation in my first unit for a week. I think it got worse over time, but can't be sure.
My second and third units were more subtle, but because I knew what to look for I was able to spot it straight away. I think that if you get one that's flush out of the box you should be alright.
Go in with some idea about how much lift you're willing to tolerate. If it is only lifted a hair, turn it on and press firmly on the left side of the display to see if there's any distortion. Listen for any sticking or clicking sounds. I'm not convinced that the most insignificant amount of lift will inevitably lead to problems down the road, and in hindsight my second unit was good enough to keep. The third was lifted enough to ripple when pressed in the raised area.
The most effective way to test for screen lift is to hold the device with the right side facing you. Look across the display and use the left bezel as a silver horizon line. If the black display is higher than that line at any point, you'll be able to see it.
Here is an example of a perfectly flush display, looking across the device from the right side.

I did more research, might help others on checking the tablet. So far, the main issues that will bother me are:
1) Screen lifting, follow pxlitup's tip or run your finger across the edge where it meets the silver bezel.
2) Blur or trailing, while viewing the Applications screen see if the icons lag or leave a trail behind when you flip through.
3) Color gamut, mainly Green or Yellow tint due to low quality Hydis IPS LCD displays.
4) Bad solder joint, set the brightness to the lowest to second lowest level, open Google Maps and scroll around to see if the display fluctuates or flickers.
I think I'm going to wait for the new Sharp IPS LCD display, they plan to use it into next batches. If anyone has any inside related to the Sharp screens, please share it with us. Thank you.

I guess that HTC went with the "if something isn't broken don't fix it" moto, cuz the only major improvement is the camera.
Another leaked video from Upleaks:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGvnyii8xlc
I think it's a fake... Look at the M9 when the guy is taking the photo to the girl: the phone has got a thick black stripe under the screen, while the one over the screen is very thin. Now watch the rest of the video: the upper strip is bigger, while the other is thinner... Oh cm on! And sorry for my bad english
Also these advertisements are really bad made... I'm not really sure they are true!
Really hope this isn't the m9. The black bar is just awful.
ho my god
it s an M8 again :crying::crying::crying:
I really dont get why all negativity, the M8's design is great and better than the competition in every part of the build. So why would HTC Change what yes ain't broken, the Camera is meh on the M8, so its now been improved, the performance if the M8 is anything to go by will be fantastic. There will be other things I'm sure that will change that mindset.
I honestly wasn't expecting huge changes in design and that's cool with me. I would safely assume the M10 or whatever the 2016 model may be will have that change.
I'm sure you'll all be happy when you purchase
I'm a bit disappointed in HTC, banging on the internet doors that they are bringing new things to MWC, just to show us a refresh/fix of the M8 (Yeah I know they will bring more stuff).
They better be calling it the HTC one 8.5 or something, because this isn't a number change worth.
I still think the M7 is a better looking phone then the M8, just because of the radius on the corners, and because the bottom and top speaker have the same width.
what a disappointment
Its not that bad lol I didn't mind how the m8 design was.

I'm not convinced this is the final version of the m9. With the leaks in the past few years, it's possible HTC is creating their own leaks to generate buzz. Regardless, I still love my m8 and am getting the m9 when my tax money arrives.?
I agree. I'm not sure it is real. Look at the poor editing, the screen images are not correctly aligned with the phones edges. Not the professional video I'd expect from HTC.

Sorry to burst your bubble guys but shown is known to do this, they are restricted and prohibited to release or leak the actual images of the up and coming mobile phones, it would defeat the purpose if unveiling it at the MWC.
Look what they did with last year's Galaxy s5
They thru everyone off on purpose to think Samsung had finally ditched the home button....
But no..
Right after the unveiling they quickly replaced the image with the accurate one. After all, all they really need are he sizes and the shape of the device, the font doesn't matter, it could look like mickey mouse and all they talk need to do is show off the case... the front has nothing to do with the case, the front camera or speakers have nothing to do with the case.... Nothing...

Hmm.... they didn't put attention to detail in this one. Check out the differences..
Well, what might actually be the case here is the picture on the left (the camera app) is actually taking the photo, the picture on the right is viewing the photo in the gallery app so the space on the top which would be the supposed bezel would simply be extra space as the picture isn't full screen.
Take that with a grain of salt, because that whole commercial doesn't really feel that 'professionally done'. It could just be graininess but when watching the screen you can almost tell that some cgi work was done on it.
Based on the this link from amazon the black bar with the HTC logo is gone

We're talking about the photo being different. The photo they zoom in on has obviously been retouched and was not taken with the M9 straight out of the camera.
So after a few days of use, I started noticing that I was unable to see the "People Edge" tab on the right side and while reading pages that were not exactly black in color, it looked like the 'edge' part of the phone looked as if I was looking at a TN panel sideways... So I compared this to my wife's phone and sure enough, it's a problem. On max brightness, I definitely don't get the same colors or anything of that nature, and it's significantly "bluer". Here are a few images for your viewing pleasure. I contacted the local VZW store and they said they'd exchange it once it comes back in stock (within my 14 day period).
** Note ** I did mess with all display settings and the color issue is not correctable.

You'll see the greyish look to it on the edges.. it's driving me freaking crazy. I paid $800 for a ****ing phone so I'm being picky.
If any of you guys are having this issue and within your 14 day grace period, return it and get another.
You're wasting your time if you return it, because the new one will have the same thing. It's a limitation of the design. The only difference is that on some phones the edge "shadow" appears more green, more blue, or more pink.
My S6 Edge had it and so does my S7 Edge. You'll stop noticing it after a few weeks.
My wife's does not have this issue at all, so I don't think that's true... if the one they exchange it for has the same issue, I guess I'll eat the $35 restocking fee and never own an 'Edge' phone again :|

I have never seen an "Edge" phone without this to some degree, but chances are you'll end up with it on the exchange device. Just go look at the demos in the stores
After a few minutes of Googling I again found the official Samsung article explaining this. Took me weeks to find last year when this issue was driving me nuts..
http://www.samsung.com/za/support/skp/faq/1076253
Your device is not faulty. The colors on the curved screen may look different depending on your viewing position.
The slight green tint in colour at the edges of the Galaxy S6 Edge display that you may observe on occasion is due to a phenomenon called WAD (White Angular Dependency) which is due to the inclined curved surface of the S6 Edge screen.
For an AMOLED display, the WAD phenomenon results in the colour white sometimes appearing to have a Green tint, or on occasion a Blue or Yellow tint when viewing the AMOLED at an angle. But when viewing directly from the front or side the colour will be as expected.
