So after a few days of use, I started noticing that I was unable to see the "People Edge" tab on the right side and while reading pages that were not exactly black in color, it looked like the 'edge' part of the phone looked as if I was looking at a TN panel sideways... So I compared this to my wife's phone and sure enough, it's a problem. On max brightness, I definitely don't get the same colors or anything of that nature, and it's significantly "bluer". Here are a few images for your viewing pleasure. I contacted the local VZW store and they said they'd exchange it once it comes back in stock (within my 14 day period).
** Note ** I did mess with all display settings and the color issue is not correctable.

You'll see the greyish look to it on the edges.. it's driving me freaking crazy. I paid $800 for a ****ing phone so I'm being picky.
If any of you guys are having this issue and within your 14 day grace period, return it and get another.
You're wasting your time if you return it, because the new one will have the same thing. It's a limitation of the design. The only difference is that on some phones the edge "shadow" appears more green, more blue, or more pink.
My S6 Edge had it and so does my S7 Edge. You'll stop noticing it after a few weeks.
My wife's does not have this issue at all, so I don't think that's true... if the one they exchange it for has the same issue, I guess I'll eat the $35 restocking fee and never own an 'Edge' phone again :|

I have never seen an "Edge" phone without this to some degree, but chances are you'll end up with it on the exchange device. Just go look at the demos in the stores
After a few minutes of Googling I again found the official Samsung article explaining this. Took me weeks to find last year when this issue was driving me nuts..
http://www.samsung.com/za/support/skp/faq/1076253
Your device is not faulty. The colors on the curved screen may look different depending on your viewing position.
The slight green tint in colour at the edges of the Galaxy S6 Edge display that you may observe on occasion is due to a phenomenon called WAD (White Angular Dependency) which is due to the inclined curved surface of the S6 Edge screen.
For an AMOLED display, the WAD phenomenon results in the colour white sometimes appearing to have a Green tint, or on occasion a Blue or Yellow tint when viewing the AMOLED at an angle. But when viewing directly from the front or side the colour will be as expected.

Same applies to S7 Edge.
Interesting, thank you very much. Yeah, guess it'll just be a return.
I'm very peculiar with my eyes. I can't wear glasses with my astigmatism because of the odd shapes I see so I doubt it'll just go away.

Glad to help. I was going through exactly what you were last year. Hopefully someone will be searching for this issue and find this thread down the road.
I have astigmatism, too, if it helps. I wear toric contact lenses. Eventually I just somehow learned to ignore the edges. I had forgotten about it until you brought it up.
I found the S7 Edge page as well. Same response...

Well, in that case, I'm glad I was able to help you remember while I try to forget Yeah, only way I can see properly is with contacts as well. I might try to get over this until next Wednesday and if it doesn't happen, it'll be a return.

I would encourage you to do the exchange and see if the new one is slightly better (the tints are all a bit different). Maybe it'll be less noticeable? But then again, the new one might be worse to your eyes. It's a lottery

Hey just a quick warning to those that got the tablet or are going to. Be sure to look for bleeding. I had to turn in the first one I received due to this. The new one they gave me had the same issue but so minimal that I didn't feel like it was worth it to try and swap it out again.
To see if you got it, turn the brightness all the way up and go into an unlit area. If you have it, highly recommend contacting Samsung soon.
Mine doesnt have any major light bleeding issues!!! There is a slight bleed but nothing noticeable or major for me to return the unit!
What constitutes "bleeding"?
Edit
Alright looked at the post on 10.1v about screen bleeding, now I know it bleeds. Next steps? Email or call samsung? Submit pics? Specific support page maybe?
Mine has minor bleeding at the top left, should I be concerned? It's not something that's noticeable unless you're on a black screen and you have the brightness at like 60%+
Does it get worse? Should I call samsung or email google io?
Serious screen bleeding on Galaxy Tab Google I/O Edition
Turned on my Samsung Galaxy Tab Google I/O 2011 Edition just to realized that it has serious screen bleeding issues.

I contacted Samsung Support by email and they told me to call US Samsung 1-888-987-4357 . Since I'm from Argentina there's nothing much I can do.
It seems that I'm not the only one having this issues.
Reporting in....
I have this issue although it's not too bad, it bothers me. So I contacted Samsung yesterday and today.
Bottom line, after 6 CSR's and a lot of confusion, i'm sending my 10.1 in for a repair on the LCD. They are emailing me a shipping label and they say the repair process is 5-7 business days.
I'll report back when I get my Tab back.

Damn.... this backlightbleeding is so bad in the new series of tablet-devices. Not only android-devices... also the ipad 2 with their LGsuck -display series.
I hate that... so much money for ipads and tabs... and a crap in production. Didnt know that the I/O-Edition of Gtab10.1 has this too... .
Anybody here have a google I/O and iPad2? I did a test this morning with my iPad2 and Asus Transformer. The Transformer's screen as a whole is dimmer. Both my tablets have bleeding, but it's more apparent in the Transformer because just to match the iPad2's screen at 60% brightness, I have to put the Asus at 90%. Here's a pic with the iPad2 on the left and Asus on the right.
Just wondering if the new Samsung 10.1 screens are as dim as the Asus or on par with iPad2's. I can live with the light bleeding if I don't have to go past the 60% mark and still have it be bright.

My tablet has a lot of backlight bleeding as well. It looks as though a white light is jolting out of the bottom right corner. It is very apparent when watching videos.
Also it makes the clock / status bar area faded which is quite annoying.
Do we just contact regular Samsung support or is there as special I/O contact?

Yup, I shot that email address a message a few days ago. Never heard a response. I wasn't sure if that was only for those who had "developer related questions" or if it was also for support requests.
I'll send out another one and hope they respond.
Thanks though!

Mine hasn’t got any issues.
Mine is Bleeding quite badly in 1 corner and a little on one side of the screen. Contacted Vodafone by phone all very confusing the phone service is just pathetic. They asked me to call around store to try and find a replacement. I called my local store which i knew didnt have any, to discuss the issue they where very helpful and the manager there chased one up for me. Should get it in 5 days or so.
My Gtab 7" has no backlight bleeding... but my ipad2 has it ...wondering - they dont test the devices after building them?
This is a nogo in this price-category i think... hate that.
I've decided that the bleeding is not that bad and that sending in my I/O Tab might mean I don't get back the same thing in return so I'm keeping it the way it is. This thing is super smooth and I can't wait for 3.1!

Anyone else noticed this issue ??
There is a spot at the right (in the red circle ) which is quite brighter.
This is noticeable only in bright backgrounds (white websites, market etc..)
You can not notice it at all on black or other dark backgrounds (youtube app etc..)

Mate, you should look at the screen on the Transformer in a darkened room.
Believe me, that's lightbleed, but not as we know it.
Search youtube for asus eee pad transformer lightbleed issue and see what I mean
I returned my first A500 because it had really bad light bleed. I guess that's what you would call it, but its like the opposite of the other tablets blight bleed complaint, noticeable on white backgrounds but went away with dark ones.

Either way, if it's a fault which spoils your enjoyment of the product then it's not acceptable in a product at this price point.
I returned 3 transformers with the same issue before I got pi$$ed off enough to ask for a refund.
Take it back if you are not happy and email support, they will only know about a potential issue if people are scrupulous about quality control.
I have the same problem so I took the a500 back to best buy for an exchange. The geek quad guy looked at the tablet and told me it is normal and refused the exchange. According to him, there is a light bulb that runs across the screen and the bright spot is the result of close contact between the bulb and the screen. He said that I could either return it or keep it but no exchange. His reason, once the tablet is opened, it can't be sold to other customers and he does not want me to end up return the exchanged tablet which will hurt the company's profit. I was like, sure, the iconia is the only product in the store and by the way, you should be an employee of the month for looking after best buy like that.
I really have noticed this issue on every device i ever held in my hands !!
This must be some general problem.. !!
How about everyone else??
i m really surprised that only a few people reported back on this issue !!
My screen does not have this problem. Maybe your screens are too tight? In fact my Asus netbook does have this problem, (kind of), because it's backlit by LEDs.
Does anyone know what the backlighting is on these Iconias? Did anyone take one apart?
I also noticed this a bit when I was doing some pdf reading with the tablet vertically oriented. Pretty much the exact same spot, but it sounds like it was manufactured that way by the responses of some of the other people on here.
Same problem here at the same spot. Pretty annoying when reading e-books for example. Is there something we can do ?
Hey xda members,
just had a bit of spare time so I decided to make some photos of my GS2 while displaying a totally black screen.
Normally you can only see these "effects" when you're in a completely dark room while looking at the GS2 being the only light-emitting source through its display.
Note: The actual purpose of this thread is to educate those people who can't imagine what burn-in/ink marks look like in reality. That's it, just plain visual information.
So I hope this isn't an issue even if there may already be a similar thread
I made some of the photos with the roomlights turned off and others with a very dim light.
The photos were shot using a Nikon D3100 DSLR with long exposure/high aperture settings.

As you can see in the first photo (below), even if the GS2's display shows a completely black image, which should result in a black display (OLED = pixel off) it shows weird marks and still emits a tiny amount of light.
In the second photo I have marked all the relevant weird spots (including screen burn-in caused by grey status bar [see below, marked by arrow])
The OLEDs in the burn-in area seemed to wear out faster because of the static grey shade it was displaying all the time thus resulting in this permanent color change in the affected area.
This burn-in was apparently caused by this theme which I was using for several months. As you can see, even the status bar in a dark grey shade can cause burn in.
A couple of more photos (with different white balance):
See below for photos in full resolution:
Hope this helps in any way and gives those people an impression who can't really imagine how screen burn-in can be caused and how these display issues (ink marks) actually look like when you capture them properly.
Very interesting indeed. Thanks for the great images, it's certainly an eye-opener to one of the main drawbacks of S-AMOLED screens.
Regards.

Roughly about nine months, bought it in October 2011.
Sent from my SGS2.
Hope this is no news? Every AMOLED burns in (like crazy). Been doing that since the first models were on the market.
Every SGS2 has it, whether people say yes or no. On my SGS2 it was clearly visible after around six months. Knew it beforehand so it was no biggie/surprise.

Yeah, also knew it before buying but I never thought the burn-in would look like that so I thought I'd share my experience with the world
While it does look pretty bad on the photos, you can't really see these issues when the screen is turned on with decent brightness, so it's no issue for every day use, but it would be interesting to know how the burn-in looks like if you use your phone for example 3 years.
Still, it looks already really horrible after 9 months of use when you look at the photos. I hope the OLED-technology makes a giant leap forward in the next years so one day these display issues will be a thing of the past.
thanks for the images, i find it disgusting to have that burnt in on a topline expensive phone in short time.
this is my first amoled phone so i dont know what to expect after a year or so, its bad for those who keep thier phones long term, would like to see how the screen is in 5 years time
is it bad when you watch a movie?

Well, it depends while watching a movie. Sometimes I can see the burn-in in movies with a lot of dark scenes, in other movies this issue is not apparent.
Either way..since I discovered this issue, I cannot ignore it anymore which doesn't mean it annoys the hell out of me but still it's a pity to see the phone 'degrading' already after not even a year and spending a lot of money on it.

Hi guys,
I plan to purchase this week a Nexus 7 16GB. Based on the reads, the device could have 2 issues: screen lifting and dead pixels. Can you please let me know if the screen lifting was visible when you actually opened the box or it started to pop after a while? I plan to go at local shop and open the case in front of the salesman, to check for those issues.
If you have any other tips I should check for, please let me know (i.e look for a specific build number etc.). Thanks.

That's a little unnecessary in my opinion. Yeah some people had that problem but it was a small percentage and opening it on front of them isn't going to change anything other than the fact that you can return it faster if something IS wrong with it. But I'm guaranteeing there won't be anything wrong with it

Ya... the idea is to save time and exchange it right away, in case I'm "lucky" to get one device that might have issues.
I was nervous too. I bought one today and it turned out perfect. I believe you would be able to see the lifting almost immediately .

I didn't notice the separation in my first unit for a week. I think it got worse over time, but can't be sure.
My second and third units were more subtle, but because I knew what to look for I was able to spot it straight away. I think that if you get one that's flush out of the box you should be alright.
Go in with some idea about how much lift you're willing to tolerate. If it is only lifted a hair, turn it on and press firmly on the left side of the display to see if there's any distortion. Listen for any sticking or clicking sounds. I'm not convinced that the most insignificant amount of lift will inevitably lead to problems down the road, and in hindsight my second unit was good enough to keep. The third was lifted enough to ripple when pressed in the raised area.
The most effective way to test for screen lift is to hold the device with the right side facing you. Look across the display and use the left bezel as a silver horizon line. If the black display is higher than that line at any point, you'll be able to see it.
Here is an example of a perfectly flush display, looking across the device from the right side.

I did more research, might help others on checking the tablet. So far, the main issues that will bother me are:
1) Screen lifting, follow pxlitup's tip or run your finger across the edge where it meets the silver bezel.
2) Blur or trailing, while viewing the Applications screen see if the icons lag or leave a trail behind when you flip through.
3) Color gamut, mainly Green or Yellow tint due to low quality Hydis IPS LCD displays.
4) Bad solder joint, set the brightness to the lowest to second lowest level, open Google Maps and scroll around to see if the display fluctuates or flickers.
I think I'm going to wait for the new Sharp IPS LCD display, they plan to use it into next batches. If anyone has any inside related to the Sharp screens, please share it with us. Thank you.

XDA was having trouble yesterday, do ended up double posting. Ignore this one.
No, Those must be old units. Early on users were complaining about that, but got them replaced under warranty. If you buy one, be sure to have them turn it on to check it.
Is the dark strip on the right side that pronounced? I thought I noticed a slight dimming on the right side of my unit but attributed it to the ips technology. Any way to identify for certain?
My newly-purchased Nook has the dark area at the right edge. It's probably not bad enough for me to ship it back for an exchange, but it's noticeable.

I too see something similar with my recently purchased Nook HD+, but noway near as wide as the image in the first post, probably just a cm - are the rest of the recent post seeing something as wide as the first post?
I 'm having the same problem but it's much less pronounced - it's barely noticeable in most cases. Not worth messing with replacements.
I checked mine and it doesn't have any. Mine is shipped directly from B&N though. It might have been made more recently than those in retail stores.
I have a Nook HD+/HDplus which shipped with BN 2.0.3 Stock ROM, and that does not have any of these issues. It is an earlier build though.
Perhaps this fault occurs with early devices, and those which are being manufactured now? I'd simply go for a warranty. I know it's a hassle, but it's better to do it now, whilst you still have the warranty option available. You never know, it could get worse and eventually affect the whole screen. To mix matters up more, this could occur when you're outside your warranty.
I'd do a backup of your current setup, whichever way you prefer, be it CWM backup/TitaniumBackup (as long as you get everything backed up); then get a warranty replacement. After that, you should have no worries; and can be comfortable that there will be no further hardware issues with the screen.
All the best guys/girls!
I went to a B&N store today and both display models showed darkening at the right edge, so I'm not going to replace mine--there's no reason to believe a replacement would be better.
For people who don't seem to have the issue, what is your screen brightness setting? The dimming at the right edge is more noticeable when it's under 50%.

every hd+ i've looked at has the uneven lighting. i'd suspect that all have it since it looks like the light source is only on one side, unless newer ones have lighting on multiple edges like most larger tablets.
i'm usually using mine from 0-15% and don't notice it as bad when i go brighter except when on light colored backgrounds.
