Looking at pictures, I see above the transparent strip there are some dots and then the screen starts. Can someone who's seen this phone outside tell if the bottom bezel feels too wide. This can make it very uncomfortable for the thumb as it has to stretch all the time to even get to most used apps on launcher.
It could get even worse with ICS update as ICS wastes another small strip of the bottom screen for the soft buttons plus getting to the top of the screen will get even harder if bezel is wider at the bottom. Already, ICS stock browser sucks as you have to stretch your fingers couple of time to just hit refresh page.
One thing that p**#@#* me off about most android phones is all manufacturers stopped thinking about the ergonomics of design. One of the main reason I love Arc is how short the bezel is at the bottom making the phone very comfortable on thumb.

I actually find Arc's bottom bezel too narrow. I keep archiving Gmail messages accidentally!!
That's personal preference of course.
So, my suggestion is, calm down, and wait for the phone to be released, head to a local shop that has it demonstrated and hold it yourself to see if it suits you. Also, SE will probably not use the on-screen buttons since their devices have physical buttons.
Last but not least, there are already a few threads here regarding the 2012 devices, so you should have posted your concern there and not start yet another thread.

I have this problem too. So, some width would have been great.

By the time my local Sony store gets this phone, it will probably lose lot of craze with early adapters like me who are thinking to get it from Europe or Japan.

Everyone has their opinions but I thought this might need it's own thread to get Sony attention. Who knows they might now seriously think about not having the soft ICS buttons after reading your post.

If you are already pissed at its design, buying it before even seeing it, is not a wise move imho.

The alpha ICS ROM that SE published here doesn't include on-screen buttons. So I am pretty sure that this will be the case for the final version too.
Also events if SE decides to read through xda forums for feedback, it would still be better if it were to be found in one place instead of numerous threads.
And that's more of a practical issue than an opinion.

Even I felt the bottom bessel looks kinda wide in xperia s ( if the portion above that transparent bar was all screen , it would have been nice ) .

this is a good vid, shows all the leads etc that we will get and the unit itself which looks good.
hopefully in the next day or 2 they will upload the guy running through the software so we can see what software they included and how much they have improved it from the announcement model (if they have sorted the lag and changed or improved anything).
yeah, I'd like to see how it runs and how well it goes through the panels.
I'm considering purchasing one, just not right away...

Sigh... after watching the video, somehow just adds to the feeling that it really ain't much of a big improvement over the X1. But well, will still get it. And hopefully, it'll be out before the 1 year warranty of my X1 expires so that I can send it for servicing. Gotta get my keyboard issue resolved, now that I realized it ain't to do with me using a custom ROM.
If you want it to feel like a "big thing" just simply think of it as a standalone phone from the Xperia series, not as a successor to the X1.
After you establish that fact, it's just a new phone in the lineup.
I hope they won't put those pathetic earphones in the final set.
I would like to LAUGH one more time about their decision to use micro usb when all the companies in the undustry have agreed to use mini usb.
Midway through the video, just after he puts in the battery (which looks to be a standard X1 BST-41 ) - he hits a switch on the side. I was originally going to ask if that might be a Hold switch like the ASUS phones have - but I realize now its actually just a battery case lock - oh well.
Can't say I like the reduction of the buttons, makes for less customization, the micro-usb means I need to get mini-micro adapters (90% of all usb non-USB-A devices I've owned since 2002 have had Mini-USB plugs). Flat screen is nice though, being a little bigger can't hurt. Nice camera, but lower frame-rate on VGA recording like the X1a now for all editions? Mostly same specs though and no idea what software it will break... makes me with hold judgment on whether I'd ever buy it though. That and the fact I have a brand new X1 to play with in my hand right now .
Peter
P.S. Just saw your reply above me orelsi, I wish Mini-USB were the standard but I keep reading that it's now micro-usb - I'd be happy if you can prove me wrong on this Ref: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2341261,00.asp
What are the mystery features held within the Adam?
HDMI In
Starting off the conversation I would like to state how Rohan has been interested in the graphics processing of the Tegra 2. In one statement he presented as a question he said "If it is capable of capturing 12.2 megapixel pictures from a camera what else could this feature be used for." I say HDMI in with the ability to record your favorite TV shows when it is docked.
I'm guessing the mystery feature is a kick-stand.

I think that would be the most awesome feature. I love the one on my EVO, but i hope they make it dual kickstand so it is more sturdy.
A kickstand would truly be epic, but didn't he mention something about a secret sensor on his blog?

It's not just one feature. Rohan had mentioned in the blog that the "mystery feature" is actually a number of features "locked" in the tablet right now. They shall be releasing a software update every 15 days that will unlock these features one at a time.
So besides the kick-stand, all the other features here stand a chance ;-)
In 19 Dec 2009 , when slashgear wrote an article about Adam for the first time , they said that it has a water sensor !!!

Also they said that this tablet is sth like this:
but in CES 2010 when the notion ink showed the Adam , it totally had a different shape
but I think the mystery feature is water sensor! I don`t know it is useful or not....
My vote goes towards a removable stylus.
I like the secret software features idea. Starting with built in swype.
Anyone know if swype would work on these units ?
Zuber
The water sensor
was just probably on a list of parts. It would probably be like the little moisture tabs in the battery compartment of your phone.
As mentioned before, the bonus feature will be something LOCKED in the first time, and unlocked with future updates, and it should be a sensor. No idea which one !
It could be onetouch breakit, 30 day live, or purposedly unresponsive touch....
Wasn't there talk of a back panel touch pad?
I swear I read that somewhere a long while back.
I'm on the fence about whether or not I should have pre-ordered one, but I wanted to wait for reviews first. :/
ill bet its NFC. They have been pretty open with saying it will get 2.3
NFC is a gimmick.
What is/does a "Water Sensor"? Is this for people living in deserts? xD
If it came with a dedicated comfy capacitative stylus and hole, it would be sweet.
I dont like kickstands unless they close up to be flush with the device, otherwise it feels weird on the back of the hand.
I don't like the idea of "unlocking" a feature, because I know Notion Ink is dishonest and that they really are lazy/don't have the resources to have everything functional from day 1. They will probably slowly optimise the stacks/drivers and once they are working properly they will "unlock" it in future updates (God knows how long it takes).
But I must commend them for making this seem fun.
For eg/ my SGS I9000 had a GPS unit but it wouldn't work at all, the Froyo update "unlocked" it, but the official Froyo update also gave me more lag, more force closes, and took away multitasking (each app is automatically closed when you hit the Home button!!!!).

I can see them screwing with the menu buttons but it would be difficult and needless to move the power switch.
They did exactly that with the captivate guys.
I prefer my "original" S2
I would have prefered the four caps in a line but who knows what AT&T will do with it software wise. At any rate I used the word possible for a reason, until hard confirmation this is just somewhat more than rumour but less than fact. I don't see the buttons as proving or disproving anything. AT&T did move the power on the captivate and go to a standard four across as well as the body changes they made so certainly that would imply they might do the same with the S2. In my mind since all the carriers are supposed to be staying closer to form and can utillize the same cases and so on that might make the power harder to move? Not sure on that one.
Apparantly it's called the Samsung Attain and is the American AT&T variant on the SG2.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
I am so glad I purchased the international version if thats what its going to look like. I prefer the hard home button of 9000 over Captivate just as I do on the i9100 over that thing (if that is going to be what the Attain looks like)
The Captivate was a variant of the i9000 and it too had a power button much higher up than i9000 did.
Capacitive touch buttons? I think I prefer my physical home button.
It looks like the lock button is slightly higher placed than the i9100 international version too.
Sorry, but I agree with the others who have said it's an Infuse. There's no way that AT&T is going to release two identical looking phones that close to each other. Even down to the chrome buttons and location of the power button. Nah, I just think the website lost something in translation.

I personally prefer the aesthetics of the pictured phone. When I first saw the Infuse, I actually wondered why they didn't use that design for the GS2. Looks they did. Have to say, this makes me want the Attain.

As to the former, maybe, maybe not. As to the latter are you seriously implying that AT&T wouldn't do something that people like us would consider stupid? Keep in mind that all of the US carriers are keeping the physical shape close enough that they can all use the same cases as already reported. That would imply that it is going to look much like our own phones do now in regards to its shape which closely resembles the infuse. IMO while this may or may not be true no one has posted anything which carries much weight one way or the other in regards to debunking it or proving it out.
An eagle-eyed commenter on Engadget notes that it's two different phones pictured. You can see the power button icon is located in a different place in the first and second pics. And, if you scroll all the way through the Facebook pics, you'll see the SGS2 pictured with the hardware button still intact.
So, mystery solved. It's an Infuse in the first pic, and an Attain/SGS2 in the rest.
Actually, if you look at the Facebook page, there's two different docks. The second one has a SGS2 in it and matches the pictures of the dock that's being sold at Clove because it has volume buttons.
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150287680707625.375373.201671497624
http://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-i9100-desktop-dock
The pic Engadget posted is both a different phone and different dock which doesn't make sense if all the SGS2 variants are supposed to share accessories.
Good lord, here's a pic of the Infuse dock on the AT&T site. It's just like the one Engadget posted. Who knows, maybe the Infuse in the picture was a prototype which is why the power icon's in a different place. You can all go home, nothing to see here.
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...0306&q_categoryid=cat1370029#fbid=XaTNFNCAU9M
The USA version of the SGS2 is indeed much better looking without that awkward button in the middle. These Koreans have no sense of aesthetics...
You know what I find interesting, neither of the pictured phones in either dock on the facebook page matches the infuse picture on AT&Ts site. Not sure what to make of that. lol Now I'm really wondering about the authenticity since neither is the infuse and only one can be the attain but two different handsets are shown. It kinda makes the whole thing suspect in my mind.

That may be the reason it feels so big as the iPhone is so small. The value of the gs3 won't depreciate rapidly, so I would hang on to it and try it for another week or 2 before you try to sell it. :good:

that is right oh well i tried.
I actually think it is not big enough. I have the Note but it was too wide for one-handed use, so when I saw the specs for the S3, I said 4.8 should be just right compared to the Note's 5.3 inch screen. But I have to admit I was a bit disappointed, I was expecting the S3 to be a slightly bigger. I see now that the phone is taller but still rather narrow. Don't get me wrong, though, I am loving the phone compared to my iPhone 4, so I am still happy overall! Now if the rumors turn out to be true about the Note 2, bigger screen but narrower and similar to the S3 in terms of curves, then it will definitely be my next phone.
I suggest getting the flygrip. It's a finger grip and a kickstand. You stick it on the back of the phone and the adhesive will keep it in place. You'll never worry about dropping it and with your fingers in the position they are, you'll be able to reach all corners of the screen with ease. You can check it out at
Flygrip.com

But the screen sizes are a huge difference. He can probably reach the whole iPhone screen with half his thumb extended. While the gs3 takes a while thumb and a slide of the hand.
Deebo took your bike too?!
Get apex launcher or Nova. They have a setting where you can swipe down anywhere on your home screens and the notification toggle slides down. That way you dont have to reach to the top so much.
The capacitive buttons on my blackmist 32gb S4 are visible while not lit up. I had a 16gb phone before this one where I had to look very hard to see the buttons. Also most of S4's I have seen require you to look very hard to see the capacitive buttons when not lit.
Anyone else able to easily see their buttons when they are not lit?

I just don't understand why mine aren't. Seems like a weird thing for them to be inconsistent with. A little disappointing.
Me and my brother got a 32GB S4 from the same ATT store a week apart. My buttons are invisible while off but his is visible as shown above. But his is brighter when on. I think someone at the factory is forgetting a layer of material or something :silly:
I wouldn't mind having it either way, but yeah...definitely a quality control issue.
Try and see if you can exchange it (if you're still in your 14 day period). Say there's a defect with it and compare it to another S4? Like you, the sight of the capacitive buttons would annoy me, had I known it's intended to be hidden (honestly, it looks a lot better hidden compared to my retired S2 that has the buttons showing all the time).

I went ahead and exchanged, no more visible buttons, but now I seem to have the tiniest scratch on my camera lens. It's only noticeable under very direct light lol. Cannot win. I will take Apollo-2's advice and accept and move on (or perhaps sell when nexus editions arrives).
On another note, ATT reps make me cringe when they take the phone apart to insert the sim card. No care at all, just rip the thing apart and dig their nails into the sim slot. I asked to do it myself and was pretty much told no. These are $600+ devices, they should not be handling them like flip phones!
