Amazingly I accidentally toasted my phone's battery charging port while sleeping. (My face mask fell on the device and the phone got wet from it)
I can't find any good source for charging port only and looks like my only option is to get the whole motherboard which is very pricey. Any one have a better suggestion for my issue?
I can't charge the phone anymore -last time I tried there was a stench of burning electronic, it will charge for a bit then stop charging inevitably.
I can't use it as tether or USB device to get my files.
I'm using my battery pack to remedy this issue.

I have a solution, although it may not be ideal. But you can buy an external battery wall charger. Then you can swap between two batteries.

u can get the charging port on eBay. then give it to a phone technician to help u change it. it's at most $5 on ebay

Look for a qi back charger that can be used to charge it wirelessly?

The shipping free for ebay hurts.
My current setup is interchanging 2 batteries and charging them on my battery pack
As per the wireless charging -- I was hoping I could still use my device as tether or as usb drive </3

Won't work with a metal back
The reason the port is not available separately is because it's soldered to the main board, not easy to replace unlike the headphone jack, loudspeaker, screen, and vibration motor

Sounds the faulty hardware - ask samsung?
And, you posted this in the wring section newb.

Almost certainly bad hardware. My first i9000 had a problem with charging, so they just swapped it for another.
Take it in and try another.
i am not really into it and it could be absolutely nonsense xD sry if so
could it be that your charger is only for ~220-240V and you are trying to charge it in a country with ~110V

no way
if it is 220V or 110v
i have usb way to charge it>>no diffrents!
I have a plugin charger & a USB charger. When I plug my USB charger, it charges quite fast. But with the wall charger, there seems to be a problem. I discovered that my daughter had tried to push it in the wrong way & has bent the pins way too little. Now, when I have to use the wall charger, I need to shift the phone a few times for it to connect. Is it possible to bend the pins INSIDE your phone socket? Is that why it isn't connecting properly?
always the phone is showing charging so no way for desconnectiing the charger or the pin inside
Don't know if this is your problem but the charger that came with my phone was very slow, it would take about 6 hours to do a full charge. I bought one off the internet designed for a blackberry and it charges my phone in 2 hours now.
Alright guys?
Accidentally leaned on my phone the other day whilst it was charging. Seems to have bent the charger port on the phone.
The phone still charges ONLY if the charger is plugged in and propped up in a certain way. needs to be pulled up slightly or there's no charge.
USB drive nor ADB work anymore so i'm guessing that a circuit has broken...
Does anybody know how these work?
If it's a case of broken connection, perhaps putting phone in an oven for a few mins will melt the the solder and hopefully fix the connection? (This worked fixing my 8800GT graphics card few years back!) Long shot
Ta
If it's truly broken then i'll probably get an SGS and then take a hammer to the HD2
The micro-usb port on HD2's is flimsy. It's probably snapped off from the mainboard, and putting pressure in the correct way is pushing it back together. Same thing happened to my HD2.
But there is some relatively good news. An external charger and an extra battery will only cost you about $16-18 USD on ebay. This has worked just fine for me for over a year. With dropbox installed on your phone and comp, you rarely have to connect via usb anyways.
if poss, check with another cable first.
I have a usb cable that looks fine but will only charge when angled downwards, no data, , yet if i bend it upwards it carries data but wont charge. my other usb cable works perfectly.
chances are it IS the port, as said they're pretty flimsy, however best to check, be a shame to bake your phone for the sake of a £2 cable.
same thing happened to me a few months ago,
the usb in the phone broke,
so i got a mains battery charger from ebay for about £4 and a few extra batterys,
been using them now for bout 2 months and all is good again,
it was a pain trying to get the usb in the right place for it to charge , i tryed the oven thing and it didnt work , not sure if i left it in there for long enough but i didnt want to ruin my phone completly.
easy option is to buy a mains battery charger
Thanks for the replies!
I'll look into a mains charger and 2-3 more batteries
So after my phone failing to charge at all last night I popped down to the local phone shop / stand in town and bought a universal battery charger.
+ and - aren't labelled on the charger so I assume it doesn't matter or it works out which is which?
It's a little slow and was a bit pricey, either way I have 63% battery now after a couple hours
Thanks
Wow mine's at 100% after a couple hours

It will probably melt the plastic first, rendering your phone entirely useless...
DONT DO IT!
I just starting having this issue last night...out of nowhere while the phone was plugged in, it said "Unable to charge. Use the original charger."
The odd thing is it actually charges a little in between the messages popping up, so it makes no sense...it's an obvious contradiction. lol I did a reboot but that didn't fix it. I'm using the oem charger.
This morning it happened a few more times but after unplugging and plugging back in quite a few times, it seems to have stopped - it appears to be charging normally (for now), but I'm still concerned!
Any suggestions/ideas?

I've seen it happen now and then on my phone. Usually it just means the charger isn't very well suited. This happened when I was using the charger for an MSI Tablet that my wife uses and keeps plugged in in the living room. It does charge very very slowly.
On another note, I actually had the phone tell me last night while I was outside that the battery was too cold and that it couldn't charge while hooked up to my external battery pack.....now THAT was funny.
Were you using the original charger the whole time? If so your USB port might be going bad?? I had to replace mine on my Galaxy Nexus which was a Samsung.

Hey, yeah the same charger the whole time. This is very odd because now it's not doing it anymore. I just got the phone a few months ago so I can't imagine it's the USB port...that would be ridiculous!

Hey buddy I have the same issue. I am not sure if it is the USB 3.0 High Speed port. But what I did was use a stand micro USB cable with the original charger and it works. I am going to ask for a warranty exchange here shortly. But I suggest you try that.

True, that would be odd. I got mine just a week or so ago and it charges fine with the original 3.0 charger and my old 2.0 ones from my galaxy nexus. I'd just keep an eye on it and if it keeps happening, it may be worth getting a warranty replacement.

Hey man, it's funny that you say that because if it continued to not work that was the next thing I was gonna try (standard usb cable) thanks for letting me know I'm not alone here! It's kind of ridiculous that a two month old phone would have these sort of issues, especially at this price range...it's pretty much inexcusable.
If it continues to happen I'll be trying for the warranty exchange as well!
Thanks!

I'm having a severe case of this issue on my Note3.
No matter what charger cable I use (including 3.0 OEM), w an OEM base or not, no cable will charge and always gives me the "Use original charger" statement. The only way to currentlly power my device is via Qi Wireless or swap batteries.
I'm not sure what may have caused this.
The only big difference with my usage is I recently bought Anker batteries for swapping the OEM battery. But I've put my OEM back in and Im still getting this issue.
Dont kno if there's any relation but LG Qi Pad use to charge through the Seidio Dilex just fine, but now I have to take the case off. Qi Wireless charging still works fine on my Lugulake with the Dilex on though. Difference between then and now is I added a Skinomi on my back cover (excessive, i kno, for those occasional days when I want to go bare).
EDIT
my PC doesnt seem to detect my NOTE3 as a storage drive either when plugged in. Ugh, i may have a busted port. I wonder if I may have damaged it when installing my Skinomi. The adhesive requires heat to activate so I had plastic wrapped my phone and wrapped a hot towel around it to help thhe curves stick down (no it wasnt plugged in at the time)
other details, likely irrelevant, is I recently added a 64GB SDXC the device that previously didnt have external Storage.

I have this issue with my Note 3 as well it will charge with 2.0 but I get error message with 3.0 I called verizon first time after saying they would replace it they sent a 12" usb 2.0 cable which they charged $20 for I called back second rep stated she knew what i meant and she would sent the correct one out right away and of course remove the charge The sent a 3' usb cable with a led on it so i call back a third time and was advised they do not have usb 3.0 in stock and internal documents instruct them to transfer to Samgsung I call samsung and they rep tells me nope we don't have usb 3.0 either and that their documentation advises that they ship usb 2.0 I know this may seem petty but I paid $600 for this phone and I want to use usb 3.0 and it should be functioning oh yeah charging phone with cable with usb 2.0 that i had from my note 2 and now I see never carrier or manufacturer really care since they have my money and 2yr commitment
charging too slow , use original charger
I had this problem for some time now
it used to happen once every few weeks
now the phone doesnt charge using the original usb 3.0 cable provided with the device
I have no idea whats the problem
I plug it in and yet battery still goes down
leave it for hours and its not fully charged
and keels disconnecting
tried another cable, still the same problem
am out of the states and so, no verizon tech support

Try a different USB power source (charger). They should be available worldwide.

I'm on marshmallow and it got down to 5% after a near full day use and I plug it in and nothing. I don't have the original moto charger but have a lg fast charger and a Samsung fast charger and neither wants to charge the phone. Any recommendations?
You may have already done so but turn it off and plug charger in and leave it a while. I've had an issue with another Motorola phone in the past where it wouldn't charge in either state when battery was nearly depleted. It has appeared not to start charging (switched off) but if left a while has started and gone on to charge. Check there is no debris in the USB slot too which can stop the USB lead connecting. Sorry if this is teaching your granny to suck eggs
It may have a fault which would then need repair. Shame you can't try the supplied Moto charger?

Here's another protip that might be obvious to you, but I'll post it for sheer amusement value.
Check the port for debris as Richy101 recommends. If you clean it your best bet is compressed air. If that can't get it out and you decide to fish around in there be certain to use something non-conductive.
I know a guy who tried to get a big hunk of pocket lint or something out of his iphone charging port. He used a metal pick and managed to short the wrong pins and fry something; at least I assume that is what happened because his phone was a hard brick after his cleaning attempt. Bonus: he is an electrical engineer!

so I found my little sister plugging and unpluging the charger repeatedly, well she's a child I can't blame she was playing, but I can blame my stupidity for leaving my phone with her, luckily the charger wasn't connected to the wall so there was no electricity, anyway the phone charges and everything, but I can see 2 aligned marks on the rubber that covers the port,so what else might have happened? bent port?? is the port inside the phone bendable or tough?
Makes me cringe thinking about it ? if everything is still working though it's probably fine but only time will tell if the port fails. If you use wireless charger that will cut down the amount of times you have to plug it in. Before wireless charging I would use charger and ota daily on my Samsung devices and never had a port fail.

thank you, well after this accident I will definitely get a wireless charger, but I have a question what do mean by 'time will tell if the port fails' I mean if it got damaged the phone wouldn't charge at all right? another question if any thing bad happened to the port would there be any possibility that It still charges however affect battery life cause it to drain fast for an example?
Just saying port couldve got minimal damage and a problem could arise downdown the road. Ex something bent that event breaks after multiple uses. I highly doubt this will happen just an example. All newer phones have safeguards overcharging, undervolting, etc so all you internals are fine especially with the charger being unplugged from the wall. Don't over think it if the phone starts acting up find an excuse to get a warranty replacement
