Is there any way to capture images from the rear 20 MP sensor without pixel binning in daylight? I believe the pixel binning smudges the details a lot. When I use the low light lens from the manual mode in daylight, the details and the overall quality is much lower than the rear 12 MP camera. Is there any way to use the 20 MP sensor without Xiaomi's algorithms?

I just noticed the selfie Camera is always out of focus or not as sharp as the mega pickles it says. I turned off the beautification mode and still same results. I compared it to my S8+ and even though it has 8mp; it captures sharp focused selfies. Tsk tsk tsk!
sharpness has nothing to do with mega pixels..
maybe you can take some sample photos with the front cameras of both devices and show here to illustrate..

The OP5 selfie cam has a fixed focus.
This means that there is an optimal distance which has to be kept to the camera for the pictures to be in focus.
If you are too close or too far away from the sensor you won't be sharp and there is nothing you can do about this.
Your S8+ selfie camera has autofocus, so the distance to the camera doesn't matter.
Wrong! Lol. Megapixels plays a part in photo sharpness and quality. I'm just baffled the sheer amount of marketing they have for better pics. It's a huge b.s. Ifou have the 1+5 you can try it out! And compare it to your other phones!

So you're saying I need to hold the phone in a certain distance for the selfie shooter? I tested it in arms length but the results are still awful.

Exactly.
But if you still are unhappy you might try Google Camera for selfies.
I use it on my OP3 and it uses less postprocessing so depending on the lighting,
selfies come out better in my opinion. In lowlight you will see more noise though.

it does take part in quality but not sharpness. Sharpness has to do with optical lens and sensor size. I am in the process of returning OP5 because my 6P camera is sharper and crispier. 1.55 µm on 6P vs 1.12 µm and 1.0 µm on OP5.
Full frame DSLR like Canon 5D has 6.5+ µm.
OP5 just used legacy marketing tactic using mpx size instead of actuality of the quality.

i think you are baby-sitting the wrong target.. selfie-shooters tend to know little or nothing about photography..
i ceased to provide any help here after that initial "Wrong" response.. typical response not surprisingly..
I am interested in this device, but I have a question about the camera.
Is it possible to change the picture resolution to a 16:9 aspect ratio? And if so, at what megapixel count is it?
To compare: my compact camera has 16 megapixels and in the settings there is a 16:9 aspect ratio available, but at 12 megapixels which is fine.
9.0MP 4000x2250
Thanks. 9 Megapixels is a bit low, but could be sufficient.
Does anyone have experience with shooting images at that resolution/ratio? Do they come out right?
Maybe I'm not an expert, but one thing I know for sure is that the number of megapixels does not determine quality but the size of the photo. Now you figure out what's more important to you. Otherwise, I am very pleased with the photos taken by MI A1, and I'm particularly interested in the fact that the camera has a very decent slow motion (in any case, you get a much better camera than you expect).
I agree, that's why I said it is (only) 'a bit' low, 9 megapixels. I am not a 'more megapixel fan', often it even messes up the picture, because of too many megapixels in a too small sensor (more megapixels could be helpful in some ways, although sensor type, size and quality are much more important).
Still interested in experience with/sample pictures at that resolution, so...
You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the Xiaomi Poco F1 performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I've rated selfie cam average coz it's a mixed bag
In artificial lighting conditions it produces somewhat blurry images. In fact selfies in complete darkness with the screen flash look better than selfies in artificial lights such as tubelights, bulbs etc. Bokeh selfies are better with more details as compared to normal selfies.
I'm talking about selfies with 0 beautification.
I must admit that I'm coming from nexus 5 which has 1.2 mp front camera so maybe I was expecting a bit too much from the 20 mp cam of Poco f1!
Come to think of it, various hardware checking apps show front camera as 5 mp!
May be they are detecting secondary camera at the back as front camera...anyone knows any app that detects all 3 cameras (megapixel and sensor used) correctly??!
It is correct with 5mp. The Cam combines four Pixels top one Superpixel.
I thought it's detecting 5 mp is secondary back camera and mistaking it for front cam

So you mean the front camera is actually a 5 mp cam and it should be denoted as such in hardware info apps such as CPU X? This explains why the selfie quality wasn't much much better as I had expected. I'm not that impressed with this 4 pixel combining to form a Superpixel technology....at least in poor lighting conditions.
It would also mean that the secondary 5 mp camera at the back isn't mentioned in the information generated by such apps!
Shouldn't it be mentioned?
I hope I'm clear on this point.
Noticed nowadays new camera unable to capture sharp pic for grp selfie
Grp selfie is where u at front n few members at the back to ensure everyone fit it in the picture
But what happen is only ur pic is sharp while the rest quite blur
This not happened during single lens with fix focus like s7 or 2016 model
How to fix this ?
I must admit that the selfies come out blurry when taken indoors especially when taken with volume rocker. It shakes up due to the press of the button. Do you guys face that?

I assume you might already be aware, they do have the option to use the fingerprint scanner as shutter.
Camera - Settings , scroll down and find it under Additional settings

Yes indeed. But just verifying if it's only my phone gets blurry due to such small shakes.

It's the same with me also, even on the rear camera most of the pictures taken on artificial lighting conditions are blurry because of that shaking.
The correct name for this thread is "Blurry camera" Quality
Even with the tripod its taking blurry shot - Cool is it ?
Need a Fix for this soon
The youtube reviews were good regarding the front camera & even the photos were good. Were the review units different or the camera hardware in the 8gb+256gb?
am i just speculating? :crying:

I see the phone uses a 20MP sensor from Samsung.
This not a real 20MP camera...I mean, it can't be! Or it's very, VERY bad, even in natural light conditions.
The quality of selfies is way inferior to the 12MP sensor of the back camera.
The amount of details captured by it makes it look more like a 5-8MP sensor...

Nice travesty
It's pretty good considering Huawei and Samsung selfie are overfiltered and poor quality.
This one can see your pores and pixel bins to prevent noise.
Hi look at this

You guys are completely crazy or have fault devices. The frontal camera is absolutely amazing. My girlfriend have a XS and its there's no comparison, F1 is much better in every way. You just need to turn off Beautiful Mode and increase sharpness on Options to make things more clear. It's one of the best selfie cameras that I ever see in my life. Get out of here you guys.
But there's a issue that Xiaomi need to fix. The camera dont focus acurately subjects at 1 meter from device. If you use Selfie Group Mode, the problem is gone.
The issue is with focus which is fixed at a distance of around 50cm. Beyond that, objects get blurred.
What is the use of Pixel Binning feature if camera app is not even using secondary 20mp sensor in any mode. Even in manual model it is taking 20mp size pictures instead of using pixel binning. Can someone guide me if am missing anything or MI is just doing false advertising??

The way the pixel binning works is that it upscales the photo afterwards back up to 20MP, I wish there was a way to turn that on and off however.

I dont think it works like that. Check attached image for reference. So there is no chance of up scaling after binning.
I found that the 20mp lens does take some great pics but you not only have to select that lens manually, the settings had to be set manually also. It seems the camera lens is fine, it's the camera app that does a poor job.

I think you should read about how upscaling works. Of course you will not gain any resolution but the final image will be 20MP again. Or any mp value depending on the scale factor
It works in my case it turns 20 mp to 16 mp, but gcam is better than mi cam without using pixel binning
Been playing around with camera resolution and I understand that while the actual sensor is 48MP OP defaults it to 12MP to "capture" more details (I think thing the 48MP setting provides better shots but that's subjective).
Now the question/issue that I have is when looking in Google Photos (gallery) the shots are being reported at various resolutions... most of the time not close to the 12MP that the sensor is supposed to capture the image at.
Regular lense, showing as 7.2MP --- 4000x1800 resolution (setting in Camera app is 12MP - 6.59mm)
Wide lense, showing 7.2MP --- 4000x1800 resolution (setting in Camera app is 12MP - 3.05mm)
Tele lense, showing 4.8MP --- 3264x1472 resolution (6.95mm)
Bokeh shots appear to be showing higher res, like 13MP.
Pictures taken from my old Pixel 2XL show consistently 12.2MP which I believe is the sensor size so I'm trying to figure out what setting may be affecting the resolution. File size are significantly smaller on the 7.2MP shots so I'm sure I'm losing some quality here.
Switch to 4:3.
You are shooting in 20:9 hence the lower resolution.
Perfect ty. I did select full looks like. Went back to 4:3 and seems to show the correct mp.

is there a way to fix it to provide 16:9?
