Google Support Sucks - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

I had a problem with my Pixel 2XL after sinking it in water. It reboots every time I try to charge it. This is now day 3 and the phone is completely dry now with the same problem.
I contacted Google support by live chat, email and also Twitter .. it is three days now they could not fix the problem.
In the last time they decided that they will provide me with a replacement device however every time I place the order for the replacement device it gives me error
I contacted them again and they said they have corrected the technical issue and they reissued the placement order. The error happened 3-4 time where every time they say the problem got fixed go and try again.
Finally, the last thing they told me ( after three days ) they will not provide support from their US website since I recently located to UK. I have to reopen the case with UK team and go through the same process !!
This is rediclouis !!
The last thing @madebygoogle account in twitter promised that they will resolve the issue and I'm still waiting ..
Do you guys think they will do anything ?!
Any one with the same experience ?

I have had nothing but positive experiences with google support.
Being in tech support at one time I can definitely understand your pain.
I can also understand the frustration being amplified by google issues.

accept that the issues will happen or live a frustrated life.
Either way it sounds like they are trying to work with you.
You just have to be talking to the right people from the right place at the the right time.
Which again is frustrating when dealing with a multi-national global corporation that should be universally capable of resolving the issue.
It does get better.

I totally agree with every single word you mentioned. I always expect problems here or there and I'm kind of person who is tolerating with minor issues.
What frustrates me really is their lack of support Ayer a long long discussion with them and then referring me to another country (regardless of their intention to help me .. people were so nice but that was not enough to fix issues )
I hope they can fix it as soon as possible.

The problem is you dropped it in water, even if it is dry now, it can still cause problems. I'm surprised google is going to replace it, assuming you told them you dropped it in water.

This is a user problem.

My son did exactly the same thing, dropped it into the ocean. Google sent him a new phone. Keep calling, wear them down.

Was it salt water? If so, that can corrode metallic areas of you don't rinse it very well with fresh water.

My Pixel 2 was splashed (not completely submerged) by some chlorinated pool water and started to shut down on its own an hour later. I checked the charging port and it was filled with some sort of grimey residue. I used a tooth pick to scrape out the grime and the phone worked flawlessly again.
As far as I can tell, the water caused any dust/lint inside the charging port to clump up, and the residual moisture in that clump was enough to cause the phone to shut down to protect itself. I'm not saying you had the same exact issue, but I felt it was worth mentioning for others who may come across this in the future.

honestly I knew that and I saw some inside the charging port.
i was afraid to clean it myself and cause any damages.
Then google would say it damage caused by the user not a water proof issue.

My touchscreen has died... Argh!

Hi all,
Well, it seems my phone has given up the ghost and died on me. The phone boots up, and the screen comes on, but it is completely unresponsive to touch. THe hardware buttons are working though. Has this happened to anyone else? I've taken good care of my phone - always in the case - originally pouch then HTC flip case, never dropped, and kept well away from water. I never had a serious problem with the phone before, now this happens. It's so frustrating - only had it for 6 weeks! Now have to send it all the way back to Singapore and wait for them to sort it out and send it back. Any recommendations?

Try a HardReset, see if that fixes it. Had this issue 2 times when I had my HTC TyTN II.
Soft-Reset or HardReset.... First try the soft tho.
And on what ROM are you?
I've done a soft and a hard reset - no go, still down. Using official 1.66 ROM. Any ideas?
You're not operating in an extremely-cold environment are you? The digitizer drops in performance when it's cold.
Nor are you wearing gloves? With it being a capacitive device it relies on the natural electronic flow of your body to disrupt the electro-magnetic field the digitizer produces. Unless you're wearing very thin gloves, then gloves will stop the screen 'seeing' your finger.
Can't really think of anything else that may help.
If it's not environmental and you can't find any software causes, then your digitizer most likely has kicked the dust.
Definitely not in a cold environment - live in Durban in the tropics... And so no gloves either. If it is the digitiser, would it be covered by the warranty?

it has also happened to me! I have had to send him/it in guarantee because it deals with problem hrdware (recognized in many models by the htc). They will handle the substitution of the display and other parts hardware.
P.S.: to me you/he/she has begun not to work in days with high damp and cold
Well, we've had a long spell of very hot weather and evening thunderstorms. Could being in a cool airconditioned environment and then going out into the humid outdoors have been the cause of the problems?

wtf.. mine just did this today also?...
I worked just fine a few hours ago here in my office. But now... nothing.
I also take really good care of my phone, had it for ~3 months now and not even a small nick or anything on it.
just did a hardreset on mine also. And still no life.
touch screen is totally dead - gonna send mine in for repairs then.
Maybe it's a conspiracy by HTC... What environmental conditions were you under?

well its ~1c outside rigth now but it has been in a nice warm office all day, for like 3 hours or so before it broke
Maybe it's the transition from warm to cold and back that broke our phones. If it is, what can be done to prevent it happening again?

nothing i guess. Its not like mine has been that cold...
my trip this morning
6.30 am - locked my door and walked like 10 meters to my car, got in turned the heater on and had it running a podcast
7.45 am - arrived at work and walked like 50 meters to the front door
~11 am - phone display stopped working
So its not like i have been outside that much for it to get really cold. I always carry it in my front pocket.
Oh great, yet another potential problem I'll have to look out for.

well tbh i dont think its a hot/cold problem. It has been even colder for the last few months and it has never missed a beat. I agree that the coincidence is almost off the charts. But it may just be a manufacturing problem with some of them and CloneboyZA and i just have bad luck.
I thought I'd been lucky enough to get a decent one, but guess it was not to be...
Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago.
Sent it to repair and they swapped the screen.

Weird problems. Whats your opinion?

Thought I'd share my story. I recently got a swap out for a "dusty" screen. My new phone seemed OK. A few days passed by and my camera flash started acting up and not working... Today I woke up and NOTHING on the top half of my phone works. Meaning my ear peice, my 3.5mm jack, my camera, or flash, or proximity/light sensors... nothing. But the speakerphone works, my screen is fine. and my microphone works. kinda odd!
It almost like the top PC board got disconnected internally or something.
Just thought this was a strange issue. Already requested yet ANOTHER swap from HTC. Hopefully this next one can make me beleive this phone was worth it.
On another note. I did get my phone "ghost armored" at a cart in the mall pretty much immediately upon receiving it from fedex. And they do spray a small amount of soapy liquid on the outside of the phone to apply the skins. Do you think this could be enough to cause water damage? I'm afraid HTC is going to charge me for "non warranty problems" if the guys at ghost armor caused this! Its a very "fine mist" they use so I think it would be hard to penetrate the phones seals. But who knows? Whats your opinion?

water can literally penetrate the smallest most microscopic points. but i dont know think "mist" could do any harm. i think it sucks that you're having bad luck with all these though man.
I like straweberries, they taste good. When eaten slightly chilled they are refreshing as well. And the things you can do with them... fresh fruit topping for cereal, pancakes, yogurt, or you can make them into jam/jelly/compo(sp?)
Anyways, yes, it is possible for your device to have received water damage, this is why I have not and will never put something on my phone that requires the use of water in the application process. And it might even be probable given that on the top of the phone you have a 3.5mm jack, speaker housing, and when you take the back off this gets exposed... and I am guessing they removed the back before misting it, so even more water can get into that area causing major issues.

Haha, thanks for your opinion on strawberrys.
I believe they remove the battery, but put the battery cover back on before misting. They also leave the device off while they do this and tell you to leave it off for an additional 2 hours (i left mine off for 6 or 7 hours.)
Even leaving it off, if water gets it, it gets in, and starts causing the circuits and what not to corrode.
I will say, I think it is highly unlikely that you do have water damage causing this problem. If HTC says no go, water damage, those misty dudes are responsible and liable to replace your device/pay for repairs. But, I do highly doubt it.
Still, there is a chance of there being water damage, and even if it isn't causing the problem, HTC won't care.
All in all, I would put money that the swap goes just fine, and hopefull 3rd time is the charm for you. It seems some people, no offense, just have really bad luck with these, while others (not to brag), have bought 5 of them without a single problem.

I agree, I'm having really bad luck. I LOVE this phone. Its just getting annoying having to swap it out every other week.
I'm also angry that this broken one has the best screen I've seen on any nexus, no dust, no pink tint. its perfect! and i have to return it
Oh well. thanks for the advice. I feel a little better about the swap now, I cant really afford to lose another 530$.

SM-G900T finally Dry - Samsung Logo Reboot Loop

I thought my phone was water proof and it would be a good idea to watch GOT underwater.
Fail
3 days later out of the rice bag my phone loads the Samsung Logo, vibrates once then reboots.
I tried putting it in recovery mode, this causes the phone to reboot as well.
I tried putting the phone in download mode, this works.
I found the PIT and official firmware from this site.
I tried using Odin with the firmware first. It complete installed, the progress bar atleast then rebooted.
Once rebooted it showed the recovery booting... for long than usual, then went went into a recovery booting loop.
So I went back to download mode and tried to repartition with Odin with SM-G900T.pit
It immediately said FAILED.
Now I'm stuck.. I tried taking the phone back but they knew it was water related because of some red water mark.
Do I have any other options?

Hell, flashing pit won't help if you water damaged your phone. And quite frankly, you kinda deserved it, it isn't water proof, it's water resistant.

Any way, I posted this thread because I assumed that since the phone was dry that the damage could possibly only be software related. The screen,battery and download prompt all work fine. I'm wondering if anyone has ever encountered a similar situation before (water related or not) If mature people could response with information that can help other unfortunate people in my situation.

Sorry, but I kinda agree with dandroid13 because you intentionally caused your phone harm. You should have researched first the difference between water-resistant and water-proof. You should have used a water-proof case if you plan on bringing it under water for a long time. But just out of curiosity, how long did you submerged your S5 in water?
The least you could do is to remove the battery and let them all dry for at least 48 hours, focusing a fan on them would be better. Do not attempt to use the phone again. After 2 days, try everything else and see if you would still salvage your phone.
I'm stuck at this point.

I was showing off what I thought was a cool feature to my family the first day I got the phone.

You watch a whole game of thrones under water when the phone can withstand only up to 30 min. Blame yourself and don't open dumb threads.

I think people are being very rude here, while I am sure that in this particular case the problem hardware related and cannot be repaired by flashing anything, these things are not suppose to happen to a phone that is IP67 certified!
If the phone has been properly handled (battery cover properly closed, back cover properly fitted) then this should not have happened and saying warranty is voided should not hold any grounds! They are advertising this phone as IP67 so they have to live up to that promise and shouldn't be able to just always say it is due to a user error.
I understand that it can be difficult to prove that the user has closed the ports properly, but Samsung should either have built in a system check if everything was closed correctly, they shouldn't have marketed this phone as IP67 or should have known this could happen and simply repair the phones if the exact error couldn't have been found.
I have bought this phone because of a lot of features and IP67 was a big part of that! If this is how Samsung deals with these kinds of situations they will have a hard time dealing with angry customers here in the Netherlands.

I'm just going to ignore the people being jerks on here.
Note: I didn't watch the whole episode, not even 3 minutes
Anyway here's an update on my progress.
I left my phone plugged into the charger, I was getting a battery overheated Icon, (the battery isn't defective, its just that the phone wasn't charging the battery so there is damage in the USB plugin port) So what I did was completely unplug my phone and took out the battery. Held the power button for 10 seconds, put the battery back in and charger and repeated this process 5 times and now I'm able to charge my battery again.
Now if I can re-partition and reinstall the firmware I may have fully fixed my phone.....
I have a few options at this point, wait for the phone to dry more
Send to Samsung and pay them to replace parts (May be expensive)
Find a local place that fixes these issues (Radioshack)
I've decided to goto Radioshack first since it's just up the street to see what they'll say. If they fix it great.. if not I'll try to put it back in rice for a couple of days and work on re-partitioning somehow. If I can't do that then I'll just send it to Samsung.

Samsung wouldn't care. This phone is water resistant not water proof. If the phone has had some physical damage due to that then you need to take it to samsung cause nobody can help you here
unless it is software related. It Is that simple. Google IP67 for reference too.

I would suggest you search that yourself: Protected against the effect of immersion between 15cm and 1m
This means it can be submerged according to IP67. I hope you drop your phone in water and it dies while you have done nothing wrong, you will be talking differently then.
To get back to your fixing the problem:
I hope flashing your phone will solve it, but I am afraid it will not, I cannot imagine how software gets screwed up by water damage. Though if it does solve it, great work!

I have. And I'm smarter than the both of you as my phone is well protected do keep on wishing. Just because it's IP67 I won't go under water just to watch a TV show. But you can do whatever you want with your phone, just don't come here and talk nonsense.

So, you seem to like avoiding the real message in my reply to avoid having to admit you do not understand a thing you say and then you say you are smarter than us? What kind of a child are you and what meds are you on? You were rudely saying I had to search wat IP67 means while you clearly have no clue yourself and on top of that are blaming someone that does something to his phone that it is supposed to be able to do he shouldn't have done (seeing your level of IQ you probably don't understand a thing I have said here) and then aren't brave enough to admit you were wrong. Wish all you want, I'm just a little smarter than the 2 of you and I won't just go in water to watch a TV show. But again, you can do that if it's your cup of tea. You assume too much, I haven't done anything like that, but if it were ever to happen and the phone breaks, I can comfortably know that Samsung will be the one to pay for repairs since consumer rights are pretty clear here in the Netherlands. No idea what makes you think you are smarter than I am since you do not even know what you are responding to here.

Right. Since you're speaking for op I guess I'm speaking to you. Consumers have rights but to a certain extent. Samsung won't entertain stupidity. Google ip67.

Yeah, I realize that more than likely it's a hardware issue. But since the only operational path I have is Download mode, I just want to exhaust all options and at the least find clues on what is actually failing
Well I'm on my way to RadioShack. Let's see what they say.

This shows you are making assumptions without reading what is in front of you, again, you search IP67 since you are the one that doesn't know what it means, from previous experiences with you, you assume to know something you do not.

S7 Edge dead screen.. No reply from Samsung

So my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge broke after 3 months, I got it the day it came out in the UK. At first I opened Snapchat then all of a sudden a third of the screen went pink and flickery, so I contacted samsung and they said do a factory reset and get back to them.
This did nothing, so I went to contact Samsung again and whilst I was contacting them the screen completely went so it was sent off to Anovo I got an email with a image of my Micro USB port saying....
“We have located damage on your device and this damage is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
Our engineers have found liquid damage and are therefore unable to further assess any faults you were experiencing.
Please see attached a picture of the damage.
This damage is considered too severe for us to proceed, and classes your product as Beyond Economical Repair. (BER)”
I've never put my phone in water as I've never wanted to risk it but it has been exposed to a bit of rain (the weather hasn't been the best in the UK). I phoned Anovo to find out what was going on. The man on the phone told me exactly what the email said, and when I went on to say “I thought it was water resistant” he put me on hold to speak to someone. He then came back and said the engineers found water in the charging port but didn't say how it got there and also didn't tell me why the water sensor in the USB port didn't work to prevent it from happening, I don't know if a message pops up on your phone when you try and charge it when it's wet or not warning you but if there is one then I've never seen it.
But what's even stranger to me is that the phone still functions, it charges, it vibrates for notifications and the little light comes on, it makes sounds when you press the volume buttons, you can double tap the home button and it opens the camera, you can press the volume buttons to take pictures. So I feel like it's not as broken as I'm being told. I've made a lot of phone calls, sent a formal letter and 2 emails starting on Friday 13th (when I got the email from Anovo) and I am still yet to hear anything back!

Just posting this to warn people that the S7e might not be as waterproof as they make out and I wanted to see if anyone else has had any similar problems and could please help!
My first S7 Edge screen was faulty aswell, screen gives purple smudges and streaking black when swiped, sent it my mobile provider and was too severe to fix, so I got a replacement.
here in Australia the mobile service providers have to provide warranty to the life of the 2 year contract and we have tough warranty laws to protect consumers from these kinds of problems.

Hey, I have somewhat the same problem as you, My phone suddenly didn't show anything anymore, as if the screen was off. but everything still worked. So my screen is dead but not the touchscreen/anything else. and it's really annoing, also have not been in touch with water, and the waterdetection thing in the microSD tray is clearly still totally clean. so it can't be water. gonna send my phone off to repair monday and hope they are nicer than you'r provider...

Oh really need to move to Australia haha. I have found that because my phone is less then 6 months old then they have to prove that the fault wasn't with the phone when I brought it

Yeah they are similar to ones here in the UK! I've seen ones with lil Wayne pouring champagne over it and putting it in a fish tank too...

I thought the IP rating was IP68?

The fact is that IF something happens, they just claim its your fault, because (!sic) you probably didnt keep the Simslot properly tightly closed(!sic). End of story for Samsung.
My S7E have this exact same problem before (glitch screen then went completely black screen but everything else work including touch screen) and It was fixed by just a screen replacement by local Samsung service centre under the warranty. I live in Thailand by the way.
I don't think it's water damaged. I did put my phone underwater before but there's nothing wrong with it. The water damage indicator didn't turn red either which indicated no water entered the phone.
I think it's just faulty screen batch and the affected device is among the early batch S7E.
Anovo is the one who run the Samsung service centre, right?
If so, I think Anovo is just being irresponsible.
I see nothing in the image they sent. I can't see anything indicate that the phone was water damaged. It also too blurry to see anything else.
Also from what I thought, since the phone is water resistance showing the image of outside the phone shouldn't be able to tell anything about water damage since it's the part that won't get or allow the phone to get water damaged. If they really wanted to show the damage, they must show the component inside the phone that get damaged.
In conclusion, the image they sent is nonsense and useless.
I'm not sure but maybe filing a lawsuit can help you.

I got the same problem. My screen has now a big lign without pixels and the screen is blinking a lot.
I've bought it in belgium at Mediamarkt. I'll go today to post it to repair. I hope that I'll not take too long before get my repair.
I never try to put it in the water or anything like that. It's protected by a Spigen Case and the phone is perfect not even a single scratch on it or the screen.
I cross my finger also because I've root it so I hope that they not tell me that I lost my warranty for a hardware problem!

I have started to reading a lot and see that in my screen edges the touch is not so sensitive. It fails a lot of times.
And 3 or 4 times i have the turning on settings and apps by it self.
I have to reboot.

Cracks through S7 Edge Screen - No physical reason

Hey Guys,
I have noticed have been a few reports of S7 Edge screens cracking for what seems to be no reason. Mine has lived in a Pelican cover all of its life
I had mine next to my bed last night, before going to sleep I turned it over to be screen side down, and I heard a weird noise coming from it (sounding something like an electrical short). I picked it up, unplugged the charger, and was able to see the cracks appear as they slowly (over about 4 seconds) appeared all over the screen.
From looking at it, the cracks appear to have originated from the volume buttons?
Does anyone have any ideas / other articles / posts that I can see to help me with my case with Samsung warranty in Australia?

The cracks seem to be from within the screen, and you cannot really feel anything from the surface.
There was no unusual force applied to the phone that I can recall.
The part that really confused me, was the fact that it seemed to take about 5 seconds from the start of being able to hear the noise, to the time the cracks had made their way across the screen.
Yeah, not calm, pretty pissed about the whole thing actually. I was hoping I would be able to find a few more examples of this happening to others, but it doesn't appear to be the case.
Contact samsungs customer service, maybe there is a chance that you get it replaced by samsung. Doesn't look like it's your fault.

The problem will be proving that. I'm not implying the OP isn't being truthful, but you can pretty much guarantee the majority of people that go to Samsung with cracked screens do so whilst claiming that it just happened and the phone hadn't been dropped/manhandled etc, even if they had. Unfortunately, I can't see this being repaired free of charge.
As for the photos, I can't look at them without cringing! I'd be mortified if that happened to mine. Hope you get it sorted.

The phone is currently with a service centre in Perth WA.
The guy I spoke to there was one of the biggest douche bags I have dealt with in a very long time. He had very close to zero interest in helping me, and pretty much laughed me off the whole time.
Yesterday (after about a week of it being at the service centre) I contacted Samsung Support, and they informed me that the warranty case manager at Samsung had rejected my claim as hey do not cover physical damage. I informed her of what had happened to the phone, and why in my opinion it should be covered. She said that there was no information on the Service Request form about what had happenened (written and sent in by the DB in Perth), and all the request said was "Cracked Screen and customer is escalating for Samsung to Cover". There was no information about what I had said happened, and as the case manager does not have the physical device (I am assuming they are on the other side of the country), they just directly rejected it without any thought because they don't normally cover that sort of damage.
Long story short, they are going to re open the service request with the new information and see how it goes.
This time I will be able to speak directly with the Samsung case manager and explain to him my version of events, instead of wasting my time with some smart arsed tech.

Simmilar issue like Note 5/ Edge Plus. The problem is from drastic temperatures of charging device and surface of your table/ plot. The phone is very warm because of the charging process but the surface of the plot is cold -> and boom, the screen or glassy back cracking. My opinion is because of the slim body of the device, when the battery going to degredation the dimensions is going bigger and there is a chance to crack the whole device from inside.

I recognize this thread is old, but same thing happened recently to me with my S7 Edge after less than a month. Never broke a phone ever, had it in a case, didn't drop it. Broke similar to yours. Samsung basically said 'we don't believe you' and that was the end of it. Done with those guys. Nokia was also a once great cellphone Company who similarly got smug like this, and how many of you are carrying Nokias around these days? Exactly, none of us.
