I'm wondering if there's any chance for G6 to receive further updates. So far, the phone has been rebranded to LG G6 ThinQ (update v20b), but it only changed boot image and upgraded camera app. Are there any further updates planned? Will G6 receive features known from V30? I have to admit I'm very disappointed with lack of security updates, so LG can at least provide some new features or app updates.
Nobody here has any additional information that is not already available publicly...
Of course there's a chance...just not a very big one
Back in February it was announced that the G6 will be part of the Android Enterprise program which guarantees timely updates.
But clearly that did not happen-- given that the g6 just updated to 8.0 and not even 8.1
So don't hold your breath
We Will receive some security patch, not evry months, and Android P in autumn 2019

LG have announced V20 will be released next month with 7.0 so this means we will definitely get 7.0 as well?

No it doesn't mean gonna get anything above 6.0
V20 is a new phone and it will come with 7.0 preinstalled and stuck with 7.0 for quite a while if I judge from LG's current update policy. Wait for an official 7.0 device update list from LG. Only then we will know if we gonna get it. Even if we will get it's going to take a lot of months. LG is not even updating G4 for security updates. I'm stuck with January security patches. So If I judge from all this I can't be very optimistic. In any case look forward for the official LG device update list. Should be out in 1 or 2 months.

They do, I'm on carrier unlocked 815 and I received OTA with June security patch a month ago. I was assuming this because there's 18 months policy to support the device and we still have 2 months left, so for example if Google will announce 7.0 in September we will still have 1-2 months left, they did release 6.0 for G4 in similar period of time.

Your phone is just one of the many variants this phone has in many countries. I'm on the open EU one and I'm still on January patch. No OTA since then. Nougat is releasing this month. In few days according to the leaks. That's why V20 will come with 7.0 bcz the final 7.0 will be already out. In priority list must be LG G5 and V10 and then G4. We can only hope we will get 7.0. But until I see an official LG device update list I'm not expecting anything.

Yes for sure, that's why I never understood this '18 months support' policy, they must change it for 2 major OS releases guaranteed instead... Because one year Google might release new OS in August, next year in October etc. And it depends a lot on device release date as well. In general I agree with you that update policy sucks a lot, not just for LG but for all manufacturers.

LG is a bit worse than others according to my personal experience. That 18 months period doesn't make any sense. It should be 2 years at least. Unofficiall it can extend beyond that. There is just no guarantee. You may get an update after those 18 months or you may not. The only devices that guarantee you with timely system updates are Nexus and iPhones. iPhones have the longest support. Nexus have unofficial long support beyond those 18 months via custom roms. For all the rest you are at the mercy of the OEM. As for our device we should get 7.0 but nothing is certain. Let's just wait for LG to tell us their plans for the G4.

P.S. LG actually did update G3 with 6.0 February security patch and until July it had newer security patch than G4 LOL, even though 18 months passed in December 2015, although for some reason it wasn't available via OTA so I had to install LG update tool in order to get it.
By the way, have you tried LG Bridge to check whether there's an update available?
yes G4 get i think 15 december-16 april betwen the date
i hope so.. i think 5.02 and MM shouldnt exist LP has bugs and MM doze not kickinng while movemnet ..

Doze isn't supposed to work with movement. It works when the phone is still and the sensors show no movement. This is by design.
I don't know how much better doze will be, the standby on LP is already pretty good.
4-6% loss over 12 hours ?
I personally think we would get Android Nougat, only because of LG's update pattern.
Each Flagship goes on this pattern:
OTB OS & Second Sort of Big Update (not too many new UX features, but new android version) are within LG's 18 month support, and then there is a 3rd update which is the major update, which usually updates UX, Android Version, and adds a lot of new features.
Because of this pattern, the G4 should have one more major update before we stick to custom roms/security patch updates.
http://www.bing.com/news/apiclick.a...n-2016/165569&c=4819151737868183870&mkt=en-us LG has released several smartphones this year, but it is likely to release Android N first to LG G5. It is also speculated to bring the new firmware upgrade to LG V10 and LG G4 this year.

such as memory leaks, ram management. they were fixed on 5.1.1
then its useless most people walk or move you know..and carry their phone with them..i think this is nice feature only if it kicks in earlier and while movement...
yes standby on LP is good i dont know why they made doze.. i get 10 hour stand by either LP or MM 0%
G2 was released with 4.2, and got upgraded to 4.4 and 5.0
G3 was released with 4.4, and got upgraded to 5.0 and 6.0
G4 was released with 5.1, and got upgraded to 6.0 and probably will get an upgrade to 7.0, I think.

Doze is super effective. I lost only a few percent in a full day (24hrs) and I didn't have access to my phone. Nougat will be even better because it will be more aggressive, the phone won't need to be still for it to kick in, and it should kick in faster. Nougat will come, but I am not holding my breath for this year. Probably early 2017. Note they need to figure out how to conserve battery with the screen ON. 3Hr SOT doesn't cut it...

Exactly! The phone won't have to be still in Nougat for Doze to kick in.
The LG G5 will get 7.0 on December 2016, the LG G4 will get it on February 2017 apparently.

This. I would like to know this too. No company announced 7.0 update list as of yet. 7.0 is not even out yet.
I have been a HTC lover for almost sever years (Desire HD --> ONE X --> M7 --> M9) and I've decided to go for my next phone. Although the U11 looks like an impressive phone, I'm still a bit hesitant to go for it. Next to G6 and S8, the U11 sure looks like an ancient phone (I'm not a big fan of shinny backs and the front view of the phone looks awful in my opinion).
Not a samsung admirer hence I would like to give the G6 a try, but my only worry is how much is LG dedicated towards releasing the android updates. I didn't have troubles with HTC and I am sure Samsung will take care of this too but not I'd like to know how much is LG committed towards this. I do like the vanilla android but I don't feel like getting into the rooting business anymore (I'm too old for that and can't keep up), so I'd be heavily relying on LG OTA updates. Also I hear that LG UX has immensely improved, but would like to know if you guys think that LG will keep updating it's own UX.
Thoughts and comments are welcome, as I'd be ordering my new phone today.
Just got the G6 a few weeks ago, and as a first time LG owner I was wondering the same, I'm sure others will give more informed opinions but from what I've read LG are quite good at keeping us up to date, I've had a UX and a patch update since I got the phone which is promising.
Sent from my LG G6 using Tapatalk
Only been using a V20 for almost 3 weeks and from what I've read here and the V20 forum I believe LG aren't quick, or even regular, with updates.
But maybe you've left it a bit late to be asking, hope you get more replies soon.
Edit: two conflicting replies already
I am probably going to answer my own question but surprisingly LG got the first Nougat update compared to all other phones out there. Source - http://www.androidauthority.com/android-oem-update-speed-743073/
Here there are, more ore less, the major updates received by the G-Series starting from the G2:
- G2: 4.4.2, 5.0.2
- G3: 5.0, 6.0
- G4: 6.0
- G5: 7.0
LG is pretty fast to release major updates, but it isn't for security patches.

The V20 was the first phone to be released with Nougat 7 out-of-the-box.
Not a lot has happened since then.
In my experience, LG has been quick with their updates. I believe my Sprint G5 was one of the first to get the Nougat update.
LG is usually first to update to newest Android versions (except Google's own phones offcorse).
G3 was the first OEM phone to get Lollipop update, G5 was first to get Nougat,...
We may not get the 7.1 update but I'm pretty sure they'll skip it because we'll be the first ones to get Android O (minus Google's phones).
I've had this phone for almost 2 weeks now and allready got 1 UX and 2 system updates so... They're really fast.
Really does depend? My G4 is fine for updates my G5 was more miss than hit!
Does anyone know when we are going to get Android 8?
I read somewhere that it would be around October/November but nothing official yet.
My phone is LG-H870 and is running Android 7.0 still

That is the time when It'll be released if will have the same ETAs as on G5 (which received Nougat on November 2016)
However I don't work for LG, so let's wait, the fact that H870 is stuck on July patch is a "good" thing in this case, this means that LG is working on Oreo and not on Patches.
But, there is also a "bad" thing, this year the V series phone has been released with an older version of android whether the V20 was released on Nougat, being the first phone with it.
Let's wait and hope.
i saw on reddit someone found a list where it is mentioned November 2017 for the G6 and well, the V30

Hi all,
I am excited for the oreo ota which the moto g5 plus is going to receive. I have a few questions. Will Oreo drain more battery and how would it benefit the moto g5 plus. Also will we get an ota to 8.0 or 8.1 and should we expect an OTA to 9.0 in the future because the moto g3 and g4 only received one update.

Looking at how we haven't received any OTA for 7.1 let alone 7.1.2, I'd say it is very much likely that Moto will release an OTA for 8.0 and not 8.1 and definitely not 9.0 because we won't be getting the second major android update coz Moto only promised one major android update than the one that came with the phone. We might have a good run with the custom ROMs though
it's not moto anymore who decides it's ****in LENOVO
Ikr. God the CEO of Motorola and people from Google must be crying. Lenovo has turned Motorola into a cheap Chinese company, so many phones, terrible after market support and no updates. What have they done to Motorola. From two major software updates to just one update and no security patches for the moto g and turning the moto x from a flagship to a mid ranger.

I just got this phone, literally came in the mail today after an upgrade. It wants to do an update right away. I know for sure it's on Oreo because I checked. Does anyone know what this update might be or if I should do it. Updates can be so damaging, I'm used to avoiding them. Any thoughts?
This is probably the v20b update which enables some thinQ features and improves the camera app and newest security patch. You should be fine upgrading, at least mine is fine with the update, but it's up to you if course...
In Canada is the 20e update but basically is the ThinQ update, that renames the LG G6 to LG G6 ThinQ, adds Google Lens and Bright mode in the camera and updates the security patch to 1st of June.
I don't want to be a broken record since two people have said what's in the update already...
It's Oreo. Using the update myself, everything is pretty stable as far as normal usage goes. Nothing should be broken since you just got the phone, even after you update.

Actually, it's not. It's called "v20e-JUN-01-2018". Oreo is already on the phone. So, you're not a broken record. But it's also not Oreo.

You know, I actually read last night that that ThinQ thing was a massive LG marketing mistake and that they're reversing it. My phone says nothing about ThinQ. Maybe that 500MB update was to remove it because my phone doesn't have that branding at all.
