Problem with payments via NFC - Google Pay and others - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I'm owner new mobile phone Asus Zenfone MaX Pro M1, the phone for me is very good but I have a problem with payments via NFC. Namely I've installed Google Pay where Iv'e assigned my debit card from Polish Bank and installed also dedicated app for payments, but when I have pay by my phone via NFC nothing happens. The terminal cannot see my phone. I've swithed beetwen google pay and special appication and nothing. I've checked NFC with my second phone whoch have NFC and it turns out that NFC works properly - example picture was sent beetwen phones via NFC. I dont know what is wrong. In my second Phone Zenfone 5 , NFC payment works properly. Maybe exists some bug in last firmware ? Currently I have firmware - WW-15.2016.1805.318. Sorry for my English.
Best regards

From where did you got that Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 supports NFC? It's not supported in this device.

I have European version where NFC exists.
BR

Is it ZB602KL?

Yes, it is ZB602KL.

First check if there is any software update available for your device but If not then call Asus customer helpline number (you can look for it on google) or visit a nearby service center. Your problem might be solved or at least they will provide you some resolution.

Install earlier version of gpay, 1.59. It works on it.

Hello,
I've installed Gpay 1.59, so tomorrow I will something buy and will try NFC payments.
If it still will not work, then I will contact with ASUS service.
Of course I will inform about my case.

Hi. I've got the same problem. I bought the phone yesterday (Tuesday, 14/8/18) and today I tried to use Android Pay for the first time, but it didn't work. I thought maybe you had to have the Android Pay app open (you don't with my other phone, but you never know about these things), so I tried in another shop and it didn't work. When I got home, I tried to transfer something using Android Beam (which also uses NFC) from my S7 Edge, but that didn't work. Just to make sure, I tried to transfer from the S7 Edge to an even older phone, and that was ok. I also tried to transfer something from the ZenFone to the S7 Edge and the other phone --- nothing.
There's definitely something wrong.
I'd be interested to hear if you are lucky tomorrow. Please keep us updated.

NFC payments not working
Hi, I have same experience with my ZenFone Max Pro. I'm from Czech Republic so the device sold here does have NFC, but my banks don't use Google Pay for mobile payments, rather they provide dedicated apps for mobile payments. I've tried 2 different apps (banks), none of them worked. However pairing a bluetooth speaker through NFC worked without an issue.
Keep us updated on this issue.

Hello,
I've tried pay via NFC with Google Pay app ver. 1.59, unfortunately without good effect.
I've also wrote e-mail to Asus service - but I recieved two "stupid" answers:
1. Do you have internet on your phone?
2.Please restore your phone to factory settings and try again setup NFC.
I am embarrassed.
BR

For your kind info there is no NFC available for this model. If you have installed some unofficial ROM you may face some problems related to NFC.

Abe chu*ye. He is from europe and he has nfc on his device. He is not indian and noob like you

Frustrating!
Last night I reset my phone to factory settings and today I went back to the shop (Media Expert in Widzew, Lodz) to say it wasn't working and to get my money back. The assistant took out the phone, and did a quick set up. I tried to send a picture from my S7 Edge to the phone and... success! Absolutely no problem at all.
I got home, tried on my own and... problems.
The phone has to be held in exactly the right place for the NFC to work. Tomorrow I'll try in a shop and see how successful it is.

From my experience and observation it follows, that NFC antenna is located at thet top of the phone between battery cover and plastic part.

I can SOMETIMES get my phone to send/receive pictures but I still haven't had any luck in a shop. I've moved the phone all over the card reader in 3 shops and it doesn't work. I'm going to go back to the Media Expert tomorrow again. What's the point of buying a phone with NFC if you can't use it for its function?

Same experience, I was able to connect a bluetooth speaker via NFC, or if I put a credit card (with nfc) to the top of the phone it registers it but when it comes to nfc payment it never works, no matter how I put the phone on the terminal. I've tried to pay with NFC like 6 times, 2 different apps, and I always had to fall back to my credit card. I really hope this is just a software issue and can be fixed with an update, otherwise I'll hlave to return this phone.

In Europe, this model has NFC. In Czech Republic is even advertised that "you can leave your wallet at home" since you can pay with your phone.

NEXUS 4 doesnt recognise 'EE, orange, t-mobile'

**edited**
ive recently fired up my new nexus 4, which has been a pleasure the last 2 days. im still getting to grips with it but it is a great phone.
ive searched and cant find an answer to this so hope someone on here can help.
Have got these weird symbols at the bottom of my lockscreen

obviously you can access the browser by swiping up but i cant find any other examples of this phone looking the same anywhere on the net.
is it possible to rid my lock screen of the @ symbols?
any help appreciated
Re: browser lockscreen widget
Custom rom or a weird sim card I'm pretty sure. Mine says tmobile but you can change it with custom roms. I vaguely recall seeing this before and it was with the sim carrier.

Wouldn't be a custom ROM. Phone came straight from Google and I'm the first owner. Will check with sim provider and see if its that.
ok so this appears to be a phone related problem. as nexus obviously takes a micro sim i tried it with an adapter in an old n95 and after that in a mates galaxy s3 and they register on "EE" both on the home screen and when you search for a new network.
however mine still appears as in the first picture and as below searching for a network. so the nexus either isnt setup for ee/orange/tmob or it cant read the sim????
this is running the latest 4.2.2 jellybean and has made no difference even restoring the phone to factory once.
anyone else using a nexus 4 on ee/orange/t-mobile in the uk and got this problem?
Ive also contacted orange (my provider) and it was them who suggested trying in another mobile but they also ran a diagnostic and that didnt bring up any errors.
have i got a dodgy sim card? (seems unlikely as it works fine in other mobiles)
has the nexus 4 not been configured properly for my network? (also unlikely as there must be thousands of people with a nexus 4 and on the same network)
Or has the phone got a fault itself? (bloody well hope not as its only 4 days old!!)
anyone shed any light on this as its got me really confused

I doubt it since I'm on GiffGaff where you have to manually enter the APN settings but it always said giffgaff wherever it had the carrier label. Also, as you can see the other networks' names come up fine. @OP maybe you could try manually entering the APNs and connecting to mobile data to see if simms is right.
Mine is exactly the same. I'm on orange. My SGS2 showed it as EE like it should be. This nexus 4 has always had varying strings of the '@' symbol. Been like that since I got it in November. I just tell people I'm on an exclusive network not available to paupers.

I'm hoping its gonna sort its self with a future update but until I figure it out I like this idea. An exclusive network just for nexus users.

I have the same issue, I got a panther orange sim and put it into the nexus 4 and 'Orange' was displayed for about 4 days. Then out of the blue it changed to @@@@@@@.
I reset the phone but nothing changed. I took out the sim card and with no sim in the phone, I searched for mobile networks and the phone lists Orange, EE and T-Mobile. But with the sim in the phone they are all listed as @@@@@@@@.
Sim works fine in every way as far as I can tell, its just the network name which is displayed incorrectly.

No Service for a few seconds, happens all the time

Hey everyone, just another thing I'm facing with my Note 4...
Ever since I got my Note 4, it's been having some problems with No Service, so I thought it was my old SIM card (that had to be hacked off into microSIM shape), but since I got it exchanged for a new one it's still dropping into No Service very often, like twenty times in 5 minutes. Then it seems to be fine for a few hours, but then it happens again a few times and so on...
Basic info:
SM-N910F
Stock, unrooted NK4 ROM with NK4 modem as there is no way to not trip KNOX yet.
O2 Czech Republic
In the same places, my S2 never had a single signal drop (No Service)—not sure if these two things are identical?
Questions/thoughts...
Could this be modem related or could it be something with the device itself?
Is there any way to test it?
I mostly notice it on H and H+, not so much (never) on EDGE, 4G coverage is rare in my area, so I can't say exactly.
Factory reset: could it change something in this case? I'm saving it as the penultimate solution, before getting a new one.
Thanks for your help.
I think I found a little bit of correlation between when and where it happens. Not really sure if it happens only when I'm close to some WiFi network, but I just noticed that when I'm in proximity of a WiFi network, the NO SERVICE is very often.
Plus, when I think about it, I haven't noticed it anywhere else, but in WiFi areas. Is the phone trying to tell me to use the WiFi?! Well, I can do that at home but nowhere else as I don't want my packets sniffed more than they already are by the provider...
Seriously, is there any way that WiFi networks could interfere with my phone's signal/service?
if smart switch is on, yes.

Thank you for the reply, I thought that smart switch was meant for transferring data from an old phone to a new one? Or do you mean some different "smart switch"?
look in settings. smart switch moves data from your mobile network to wifi and back.

Yeah, found it, Smart network switch in Wi-Fi settings. I have it unticked. So this shouldn't be affecting me(?) As the No Service happens to me when I'm on mobile data, in Wi-Fi range but my Wi-Fi is off...
no solution yet
I still haven't figured out what's the problem exactly.
But me and my colleague have the same provider, but she's got an S4 and when I had them side-by-side I noticed that both phones dropped to No Service at the same time, but my S2 didn't. The area is fine, signal-wise, there's even a mediocre 4G, but at the time all of them were on H+. And when they "regained consciousness", they were starting from zero signal EDGE back to full H+.
This makes me wonder, as it seems it's got to have something to do with some setting in both phones / SIM cards' setup. Both of them have new SIM cards and both of them did it even with the old ones.
I'm gonna call my provider's tech support to see what they have to say about it.
I am experiencing the same problem here in USA. I bought the phone from Amazon Germany, using it on AT & T network in US. For no reason the phone drops the phone call and goes into " Not registered on network" message. This lasts anywhere from 20 seconds to 5 minutes, then without me doing anything goes back to normal. I was using this phone in Czech republic for a week in January and had no issues.
I was experiencing no service on my Exynos n910u and I ended up reflashing ONLY the modem, and it's fine now.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.
It seems to me like a modem issue too. I remember that I had to change modem on my S2 in order for H+ to work.
And since I can see there is an issue when changing countries, it would suggest it as possible... However, does flashing modem only trip the Knox counter or something? I can't read through the forums right now, so I'm asking politely here.
Anyway, I isolated the issue to 3G networks, because when I force my phone to be 2G only it never drops, my signal is green and seldom grey. No service never occurs, but as soon as I switch it to 2G/3G/4G or something else that includes 3G, it starts again.

Wanted to thank you for the input, this just suggests that the modem/radio is at fault. Because you relocated to a different area and it doesn't work properly with the bands there.
I had the same problem on my S2, which was unable to connect to 3G until I flashed the modem recommended to me by someone here on xda. But that was almost 4 years ago, I just don't understand why this happens, what's so different that the modem just wouldn't connect, plus the S2 was bought from my provider and it was branded with their bloatware and still, it didn't work.
But here on my N4, it's similar, but it seems to work just fine and then, all of a sudden, you're facing No Service message for a few seconds or minutes, then boom, you're back on.
I spoke with Samsung support today, and I guess they didn't even understand what I was saying. I'm gonna have to visit them and ask around, if they could flash the modem to something more compatible with my area. Can't use the phone like this, that's why I bought it in the first place - I need to be online and as fast as possible. But now, it would seem like I'm better off with my S2

Well, that sucks...
So, I had my phone serviced and they said everything was fine and that it's working the way it should.
Of course it isn't, the second I walked out of there I had a No Service a few times again, I already tried changing the bands only to what my provider has, didn't help at all, switched it back to all available bands. Naturally, I got really pissed. There seem to be only two viable options:
a) flash a different modem, as suggested in a previous post
or
b) get rid of the phone, which I really don't wanna do, but it's really annoying having to resend every second message (often twice), be it SMS or IM, because it drops into No Service...
ad a) I did a search and I was unable to find a modem thread or anything regarding modems for N910F, am I blind or there isn't one? Or am I supposed to extract it myself from a stock ROM file? (I don't even remember how to do that anymore, lol.... I guess there is a guide for that, but again, I haven't found it?! Or is it universal across Samsung devices?)
ad b) I love the phone but this makes me wanna throw it out the window
Thanks for any kind of help! I'm desperate.

I haven't solved them yet, but it got a lot better when I updated to Lollipop. It's got a different modem (BOC4) and it seems to have improved my situation. So happy I didn't have to throw the phone away after all.
To be clear, it still happens but a lot less since the update, maybe once a week, for a few seconds which I deem acceptable but not ideal.

I took my Note 4 and a hammer into the garden today...........

I took my SM N910L Note 4 and a hammer into the garden today because no matter what I've tried
(and I've tried everything http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/general/im-bonkers-ill-pay-50-dollars-to-fix-t3169748)
I just can't get it to work. I put the Note 4 on the grass and I raised the hammer above my head - but I just couldn't do it....... it's not the money......it's the waste.............
So, I'm upping my offer. If you can tell me what to do to get my NOTE 4 receiving and sending DATA again (basically connecting to my carrier) I'll send you 100 dollars. The first person to to show/tell me something that allows me to make a skype call or receive even 1 email through my DATA connection gets the money. INSTANTLY!!!!!
Please read the thread above, all the info is in there except this. I have been trying to flash a different custom ROM in the hope that that will fix it but none of the ROMs I have downloaded will flash thru TWRP (even though I can backup and restore thru TWRP). I get an error message saying unable o open zip. Anyway, if anyone has any ideas please post.
A very big thank you again to all those who have tried to help me already.
I have a hundred dollars pinned on the wall in front of me .................. I'll be sooooooo happy to see it go !
P.S. I know that you are not helping me just for the money, I know you are helping just to help me out (and I have had so much help already), but I just want to make it worth your while too.
Is it the modem? Perhaps try installing the official docomo 4.4.4 rom for the note 4 via Odin. See if that fixes it?
I'm a noob but it's all I can think of. I hope it helps somewhat and if not then just return the phone?

I think it is the modem too, but I've re-installed 4.4.4 and 5.01 many many times. I flashed individual modems too. Nothing seems to sort it out. Can't return the phone - bought on Amazon from Korea, seller sucks, Amazon unhelpful, that's a dead end - I need to fix it.
Thanks anyway (I'm a noob too )

load stock rom on it for the 910L with all stock CSC, do a complete reset, turn off carrier data in settings, select carrier network manually then turn on wifi carrier data bluetooth. make sure smart network switch is off. disconnect wifi and try it out.
and if that doesnt work ship me the phone instead of using a hammer on it lol.
Have you called your carrier to make sure it's not some sort of problem with how they have your account set up?

Yup I have 2 sim cards now with two different carriers and have spent hours and hours on the phone with them both trying to work out why it is not getting data. My only glimmer of hope is that although they are different carriers I have found out that they both use the same network (dohhh) so maybe it is specific to that network - DOCOMO.
thanks for your help.

If yes, you probably have some sort of APN issue with Docomo. If not, you may be boned.
IF YES:
Go to Settings -> More Networks -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names
Press the plus symbol on the top right, set the name to DOCOMO, set the APN to mopera.net, set the MCC to 440 and MNC to 10.
If this doesn't work, use 0120.mopera.ne.jp as your APN instead.
If that still doesn't work, have you tried a b-mobile SIM? I had this issue once when I was in Japan for some time - Docomo doesn't like people using unlocked, imported devices on their networks for some reason.

Yup, I think that it is about time. Hate doing it because Im sure it's a software issue, but I don't have any more avenues to go down now. But it will cost more than a hundred dollars though - I live in Japan, I'll be lucky if I get out of their spending less than 200 dollars. Still, let's see.

I didnt think the prices were that high there. Again if its not a hardware problem it cant cost that much.

Talked to Samsung Japan today. They wont fix try to fix it even if I offer to pay - has to go back to Korea. The company I bought it from said it is user negligence, Amazon says it was working for 7 weeks so it is not there problem.
So, seems I'm left with a very pretty, extremely useful Samsung iPod. No phone though.........................
At some point it is stupid not to give up...................
Am there yet..............??

Seriously considering saying yes
At this point I'd consider human sacrifices, voodoo dolls, or crystals too.
Are you sure that SM 910L is your local Note 4 variant? There might be hardware differences in different variants that only accepts certain signal bandwidth for a specific carrier.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and will never be Note 5.

Verizon Messages+ stuck on "Please Wait Starting Service"

The year is 2017. I see threads going back to 2015 about this issue, but no one's seemed to solve the problem. There's a Verizon Messages+ app for iOS, Android and Desktop PC's that allow you to forward or 'sync' text messages of a Verizon line to another device. I say 'line' because it works flawlessly on the Desktop PC app and Android tablet (which neither were purchased or has anything to do with Verizon).
Here's my scenario:
Phone 1: iPhone 6S 32GB (Verizon work phone) - has 4GB data allowance
Phone 2: GINORMOUS T-Mobile V20 (Personal phone) - unlimited data
Having both phones and a wallet in one pocket is absurd. T-Mobile's 'DIGITS' app is failing - at best. I can't get it to stay active more then 10 minutes. Therefore my goal here is to *73 and forward my Verizon calls to my personal T-Mo phone and just block caller ID on outgoing calls because I don't know how to spoof caller ID into showing another number (my Verizon work line), THEN use this famed 'Messages+' app on my T-Mobile phone since all my co-workers seem to want to text more than make phone calls. Before you say anything, I had Google Voice for YEARS and was a huge talker about it - but it failed me so many times, and making calls on an iOS device never shows the correct number on caller ID when calling out. It was extremely awkward. Also, if you're in a bad service area and GV can't make an Internet connection to initiate the call, you're screwed.
If I download the Messages+ app for desktop to my laptop, it works damn good. No lag, it's instant and has lots of features! But, if I install it on my T-mo personal phone and try to 'activate' or whatever it wants, it just sits there looking at me funny. THIS IS SO IRRITATING. I CAN NOT BE the only one with the situation of dealing with two phones. I'm out of the office 75% of the time traveling going from airport to airport and can't miss calls or texts.
Does ANYONE have any kind of input on how I can resolve this issue? I'm at the point now to where I'm just going to cancel my T-mo personal account and have people call me at home like they did in the 90's. Does Verizon really think I want to do this? Why would this app work flawlessly on a desktop, but not an Android phone? Isn't the Internet the Internet? I don't want to sync anything, I just want to RECEIVE and SEND text messages.
What gives? I am SO FRUSTRATED over this.
vzw user here with 3 phones and user of message+(great app) the trick for me i've noticed is you MUST have a verizon sim installed for the app to properly "start service" then you can remove sim after. If it's a non cellular device, like samsung tab-s no sim needed, but once the app realizes it's a cellular device, you need a sim. The sim can be removed AFTER the service starts and as long as you regularly use the app on the phone after it 's activated you're good, but if you stop for like a few days, it knows and deactivates the service.
hope that helps

I appreciate the response, but that didn't work for me. I have a G5 plus unlocked and I installed the messages+ app and it worked perfect with the Verizon sim. Then I turned the phone off, stuck the T-Mo sim in, powered on and loaded up that app. As soon as it opened an error came up that said "MDN SETTINGS CHANGED. APPLICATION RESETTING!" and brought me back to the first screen you see with the app.
I really think I'm doomed. This is so unfortunate.

Oh sorry, I didn't realize you were putting the tmo sim back in, ans as soon as the app sees that sim it deactivates, sucks that VZW makes it that way, as my wifi tablet just works, unless you could trick the messages + app to thinking it's not installed on a phone, but thats beyond my skill set
Yeah, I thought about that, but it's over my head too. That app works great on my tablet too. Ahh well, maybe someone will see this blog and have a miracle answer! Tha J's for trying though!
I use the Verizon Messages + app as my main SMS (w/ MetroPCS service /tmobile) since it has a lot of features I like plus works really well with Android Wear 2.0 ...
I do know it does take a little time to get past the "starting messages screen" (maybe 1 min or so)... but so far the only issue i've seen is that occasionally i will receive duplicate sms messages in a group chat... not sure how to fix it..
thought i'd give you an update.. but now i've had issues with the app deleting / removing conversations from my list.. at first i thought it was related to accidently hitting delete on my watch.. but the second time it happened i know it wasn't me directly.. so i have deleted the app.. back to Textra for me...

Samsung Galaxy Note FE having Operator signal problem.

Hi All,
Recently I purchased my NOTE FE from KSA and was very excited to use this fabulous phone but unfortunately have been facing Network Signal problem. Let me explain what steps I have taken to troubleshoot it.
1. Used three different Operator Nano SIM which are working absolutely fine in Galaxy Grand Prime and Iphone 8 but when I insert it in NOTE FE signals just vanishes after a while when the phone is in standby the I have to turn ON the screen and at times have to change NETWORK MODE LTE/3G/2G , 3G/2G , 3G only or 2G only but after a while again I have no Network it keeps on fluctuating. Due to this reason when I try to call to my NOTE FE the message I receive is that the dialed number is not responding.
2. I have tried both slots i.e. Slot-1 & Slot 2 the issue remains the same.
3. I have also tried to factory reset but the issue remained the same.
Rest all features of my NOTE FE are working fine including WI-FI and all APPS of the phone.
I am very upset kindly If any of you can guide me or tell me what could be the reason behind this. Looking forward to your valuable suggestions.
For the reference please see the attached Pics.

Have you used this mobile in KSA before using it in Pakistan??
As it has a sim lock for Middle East & North Africa Sims only, which get unlocked by using your KSA sim for 5 minutes calling.

Yes I did that as well before bringing it to Pakistan I made sure to use it in KSA. Had made calls for more than 10 mins both local and international. Secondly Pakistan is already in Middle-East Region as per Samsung list of regions so in theory there is no need to do that. People from India have to perform this as India is listed in Asia Region as per Samsung.
Try this setting
In sim manager, set network mode to 3g/2g instead of lte/3g/4g and then inform if things solved?
Please also inbox me your WhatsApp number.
I am trying to send you msg via inbox but not successful.

I agree with the option to go to the service centre. I had the same issue, they replaced the motherboard for me as it's a modem issue. Since then haven't had it recur unless I'm in an area with no signal (partially caused by my thickass Spigen case but that's another issue altogether).

Hi Guys, Well I sent my Samsung Galaxy NOTE FE to Samsung Service center in Jeddah and they fixed the Network Signal Issue i was facing before. Now My device is working flawless. AL-HUMDOLILLAH. Word of Advice for Samsung is that their QA needs to improve their department performance before releasing Flagship devices in the market to avoid such issues in the first place.
what problem?
