sprint ODM apps - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Does anyone know if these actually do anything if you aren't with sprint? I see them always running in the background and I want to disable them if they're pointless. Not really sure if they effect signal or anything else.

Disabled them all without issues and I'm with T-Mobile.

This looks like the best answer I can find right now.

This sounds like something the CDMA radio manages. I'm not familiar with the lower level processes and configurations on Android, but this might be part of a closed source process. I don't know if Android is supposed to have such a thing?
You could try setting the Home SID/NID to the SID/NID of the tower where you work, and then set the phone to Sprint Only. This in theory should force the phone to stay on the roaming tower, but I'm not sure if this will override the PRL. Probably not.

However, we are expecting HTC to release Kernel source code this weekend. My guess is once we actually have it we will be able to see exactly how this is being done, then maybe be able to do something about it. There is a thread on this already if you haven't read it, but no definative answers. And I have no clue how to make the above work.
and maybe something like palms synergy?

I have never owned a Palm, I have absolutly know idea what that is lol
There's a thread going on already for this, no need for two.
A simple Force Roam search would easily get you to that thread..

i would like to also know what the big thing about it is
i'm in seattle area which cannot get the update at the moment
or at least from what i know i can't
how can we check what pri we have?
it is supposed to control how our phones connect to different towers based on where we are. some say it gives them better 3g speeds, some say it does nothing.
you can check your pri by going into settings->about phone->software version.
menu-settings-about phone-software information..... i believe
I just bought mine and it has 1.40 but it also has 2.2 built in so no root.

Thanks I thought that was how to check it but I couldnt find it. I am on CM6 though so some things are just diffrent.
It doesn't do anything. Placebo effect.

I tend to agree, but obviously it does something since they pushed out the update from 1.34 to 1.40 pri.
it depends on the area. some areas ... literally changes very little to nothing. some areas see increased 3g speeds.
I dont agree it is a placebo effect for everyone but i would guess a majority of the areas benefit little besides having the knowledge your phone is truely up to date. For those areas that it does benefit you could see 2x+ speeds from 3g

No signal notification

I know this has been brought up before. But, why the hell cant we find the damn notification tone for the no signal???? I work in an area where i lose signal often, this truly is annoying. This phone has been broken down in every aspect, but this is one feature im sure most of us would like. Just sayin.
so what are you looking for? u want it to be quite when loosing signal?

Yes, i dont want to hear that sound it makes, but i dont want the rest of the phone to be silent.
I'm running Nebula rom and I haven't heard the tone since starting to flash custom roms...it hadn't occurred to me that it was gone.

Turning off 'lost signal' chirp?

Does anyone know how to find and remove the sound file that plays when the Epic loses and regains signal? It's one of the most annoying "features" of the phone and is really getting to me. I lose signal often on my way to work while listening music and it always interrupts.

+1 to this. I also find it a particularly annoying sound. I work in a low signal area and it goes off over and over during the day.
Been plagueing us for a long time. I tested every sound file I could find with root explorer and came up empty.
Do you BONSAI?
Apparently a patch turned this off on some Verizon phones... anyone know anything about that?

Trust me, I have literally spent hours upon hours in root explorer looking for this damn thing, it might be impossible to remove from samsung roms. Cyanogen doesn't have this problem =)

They had a hidden menu with that option that the Epic does not.

No, I don't.
It would be awesome to be rid of that stupid chirp.
I never hear it, because I have system volume all the way down. I can live without noises every time I click the screen

Yah, today was a beautiful day. But since I live in the hills, my connection gets lost pretty much every time I drive out of the house.

Random shutoff

This is my girlfriend's phone and she's telling me that her phones randomly shutoffs and she doesn't know when it started. I had her clear her cache to see if it makes a difference but nothing different happened. Any ideas?

Are you running the stock ROM or a custom one? In my experience these things typically happen when overclocking the CPU or low RAM. If you are running stock the answer may not be so easy unless there are several apps with very high RAM & CPU consumption running. However with 3GB of RAM it's kind of hard to see that.
It's stock. Nothing has been done to it whatsoever. She said also that, sometimes she would bump it just by handling it that it would shutoff. So the only thing I can think of is maybe an app that she downloaded that's causing this. She also stream movies in her phone by way of a third party torrent. So hope me telling you this will get some gears going.

If just bumping it causes a shutdown than that sounds hardware related, no app would do that. It could be some damage in there. Sometimes it's a defect, age or a stiff knock to the ground can do it if you don't have a good case. That's a worse case scenario because once these things start it's all downhill. If you have someone locally that repairs phones, take it to them & get a quote. If they want anymore than $100 I'd get another phone.
Ok. But what about it just random shut off? The bumping of it is just some times.
Only thing else I can tell you is to open the task manager and see how much RAM is being used. If it's running near full capacity as in 2.7 or 2.8 find out which app is the memory hog and dump it. This is just grasping at straws because like I said, I don't see this device crashing frequently like legacy devices do.
Ok. Will do and I'll post back.
Sorry for being slow. Would that be under storage?

No, just long press the home key. Then when recents pop up select task manager, then RAM.
Nothing that she has on her phone isn't anything out the ordinary thars using a lot of ram. What she has in there isn't contributing to her random reboot because those apps were on there before it started doing this. Her Android version is 5.0. I don't know if a older version could be contributing to this. When I asked her to check for updates, it just told her no updates available at this time, check back later. So now what?

The OS is fine, 5.0 is what I have and I have had no issues. I have read in some other posts around here from people who upgraded from KK and later had problems, mine shipped with 5.0 already installed. If you want to downgrade to stock 4.4.4 there are threads around here to tell you how to do it. If the issue persists after that I'd start shopping.

If you haven't already. ..factory reset the phone. She'll have to reload contacts and apps...but if they're backed to to Google...they will be reloaded once she signs in with her google account.
The factory reset has "fixed" many issues with upgraded phones.
And then there is the obvious...is the battery properly seated?

Ya. I didn't think about that. We'll do that and see what happens.
Before factory resetting the phone, will it lose the ability to be unlocked?

Not sure what you mean by "unlocked" since none of the Verizon phones were SIM locked. If you mean "rooted," you said it was on Android 5.0....that can not be rooted, so it's not rooted now.

Meaning it can be used with any other carriers, domestic or internationally.

All Verizon Note 3's are SIM unlocked. You can use any carrier's SIM...but...you may not be able to get 4G LTE data because other carriers may use frequencies not available in the Verizon Note 3. Check with YOUR carrier first.

Ok great. So resetting it isn't a factor. I'll check the frequency.
