S7 Edge Oreo AOD - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have been using the constellation AOD on my s7 edge for like 2 years now and with this new update I cant use it anymore. Using a custom image fills only a quarter of the screen so thats no use. Is there a way to get the old constellation AOD back? My phone is unrooted. Thanks in advance!

Thank You Samsung.. A small MM review

Im really enjoying the new MM 601 update on my S6 Edge...
This is entirely from my own Opinion, so feel free to chime in with any comments..
In the beginning.. the edge features were very limited to a Night Clock, a gimmicky multi-coloured contacts ringer and a few tickers, but now after the 601 update.. the Edge has become so much more worth it over the vanilla S6..
FINALLY, SS have included access to all apps to use on your side swipe edge.. like the Note Edge and the Edge plus..
Sleep battery life has been improved .. (although im still testing this)
Theyve removed more apps for you to add yourself.
(S6 always had this) Nice to see SS are now including MS Office apps as an option to Google Drive (OneDrive suite is far better for using it on any device)
Finally, we now have Shutter Speed (Edge Plus) and improved camera and UI features..
The 4G modem reception has been inproved, here in the UK on EE, I was getting 0 or 1 bar on 4G, now Im getting 3 - 4 bars.. which is great, but this varies from region to region, but here its better.
Sadly though, as of yesterdays edge app update 28/2.. they removed the Night Clock.. Why?- EDIT: Its in settings, not Edge, my bad
Your stuck with Yahoo news, so far I havent found away to change to another app..
Theyve removed the nice Lock screen swipe effects, not a biggy IMO, but I liked it..
So all in all, Ide say that the MM update is a great update to the S6 Edge and IMO, makes the Edge a much more attractive buy over the S6, so great work Samsung... BUT
Its took Samsung a whole year to get here, which IMO, these features shouldve been in the Edge since 511, I understand they had to make the Edge Plus
(we didnt get the Note 5 here in UK) an attractive buy as well, and obviously.. as the S6 has now been replaced by the S7, theyre giving the Edge everything..
but really SS.. a Whole Year,
Anyway Good work Samsung..

Goto settings > Turn Night Clock OFF > restart phone > Reset your Night Clock up again...

It really is a good update, first time I've been impressed by Samsung and an Android update.

Agreed.. Its the first Ive ever been Impressed by a Samsung update EVER... I know when Android switched to the ART file system in Lollipop, it was a huge improvment for everyone.. but Sammy have just struggled with performance.. until now.
Plus with the likes of One Plus, Motorolla, LG and now newbies Huawei offering some better and cheaper alternatives... Samsung cant really afford to just push out half baked updates, they gotta get their game face on... and lets just hope they dont try and pull another Apple with the S7 (SD Card back and bigger battery) coz it might just cost them even more than just a few lower quarter sales like it did with the S6..
What is the status of memory consumption in MM update?
After playing with themes stuck at bootloop and after hard reset I do not have the same ui experience as before.
My device turns a little lugy....
Is it just me but the photos I took from Lollipop is much better than from the MM?
Its a little grainy when I upgraded to MM. Anyone experiencing the same thing?
Hi,
after the update i dont have the option to have weather on the lockscreen, neither the steps and google now on tap doesnt seems to be present. Anyone with the same problems ? Any Fix ?
I'm on Vodafone RO.
Thanks

Cant say Ive noticed this.. flashed MM out of the box so..
Its supposed to be a batter camera experience all round.. I read anyway (Taken from the Edge Plus).. we now have Shutter Speed and a Kelvin (ala LG G4) for White Balance, which incidentally, they set it the wrong way round.. hehe, nice one SS. (slide it into the Blue section and the screen goes Yellow or warmer.. and vice versa), thats easily fixed though
Your right JurGGen.. No weather, although if you goto settings > Lock Screen and Security > Notifications on LockScreen .. Weather is there in the list, but maybe it only shows when theres Snow or Rain.
Theres a Weather App in the Samsung Apps Store.. Its under Updates.. ... find it under LockScreen security.,.. That might help, but dont know... Never been one for Weather on Lockscreen.

Is an S7-like Always On feature possible/available?

The S7 has a cool new feature where you can choose to always have the time displayed on your screen, along with other things like battery and stuff...
Is there anything like that for the S4? It'd really just be handy to have the time always-on, but any more is wonderful.
Thanks.
ambient display is as close as we get which isn't always on, just occasionally...
I wouldn't recommend it. The S4's screen wasn't designed with Always-On in mind, so it is possible that screen burns may appear due to the prolonged display of static images.
Is it possible. ..I believed that s4 and s5 screen is almost the same kind...
S5 developer has successfully ported Always-on-display (AOD) from s7 edge to s5 snapdragon version...so I think is it possible to have a s7 ported rom for s4..
I may be wrong xD

With S7 apps = possible,
But, don't wish for Always On Display feature. It's insane for S4 battery life for me...

Note 7 /Android N AOD on S7Edge?

Hi,
I was just wondering if it's possible to get the latest AlwaysOnDisplay on the S7 Edge without using the Android N Beta?
It's the one with intergrated 3th party notifications and ability to change the played music title
Thanks in advance!
Nope. You can get an app that claims to do that, but as the expense of increased battery drain. Samsung integrated it deeper into firmware for minimal battery loss.

Night clock like on S7 Edge

it seems as though they have removed the Night clock feature from the S8or is it there somewhere and I am missing it? It was a great feature which i used everyday on the S7 Edge.
It's moved to an option for the AOD. And you can set it to be enabled between the hours of your choosing, so it doesn't have to always be on.

thats not the same thing, the night clock was irrespective of AOD, so I was using AOD the whole day and at 12:30 AM the night clock would turn on automatically and turn off at 9:30 AM and it would switch back to AOD.

thanks but thats a complete clock not the edge night clock that used to be there on the s7 edge.
yeah i want to know where the edge night clock display went. I loved having that on beside me on my nightstand. Easy to glance over and see how much time i left to sleep lol.
You can use the edge clock through the AOD, took me a while to find it
Here are the screen grabs, it has more options that the S7 edge from what I can remember

Unfortunately, that's the frustrating answer found everywhere: "the edge clock is still there! Problem solved!"
I do appreciate that it took you a bit of looking and that you put in that time and effort and are trying to help. The actual problem, however, is that on the S7 Edge I set the AOD clock of my choice AND had the edge screen, too. The big clock took up the screen during the day. Then, at night, the normal clock I chose switched over to the edge clock. Then back to my normal clock during the day.
My S8+ allows me to pick one or the other, not both. I like that the edge clock is an option, and that it can even be set all day long if that is someone's choice. Or I can set it up on the same schedule I had at night like on my S7 Edge. But if I do that, I don't get my big clock. At all. Or I can choose to have the big clock I had on my old phone, all day and all night, or just during the schedule I used before. But no matter what I do, if I choose this option, I cannot have my edge clock. At all. I have to pick, whereas before I had both.
Before my S7 edge, I never had or knew this feature. But I used it so much over the past year that now that I broke the screen on that phone and "upgraded" to an S8+, I miss that feature.
Sadly, I think the only option at this point is to submit a feature request to Samsung for it to be added back to the new phone (or add my voice to someone else's request.) I'm not sure yet how to do this.
That was a cool feature on edge... hopefully Samsung will wakeup!
Agreed, I used this feature. would like the edge clock for at night time.
I was having frustration with you reading the answers. I used it the same way and am sad to see it go.. two negatives so far on the s8.. that, and the placement of the fingerprint sensor...
It's probably because edges are not so distinctive and clock would be barely visible.

Sorry to post in an old thread but I just updated my Galaxy S7 edge to official Oreo and now it's the same thing like s8, anyway, when I set up that edge clock it's not anymore on the very edge, it's closer now to the middle. Small feature but bit disappointed.

Is installing a s8 port worth voiding warranty?

Hello everyone.
I am tempted for quite some time now to install a s8 port, but my device is 4 months old and I don't know if rooting it for a custom rom will be worth of losing my warranty.
My main concern is that the port will have bugs, so I'll be forced to go back to stock, but with warranty void tripped.
I've had every samsung phone since s3, and every single of them was rooted and had a custom rom (apart from flat s7 last year and edge this year), so I'm not new to this thing.
I don't like the laggy app switcher animations in nougat update for s7edge, and the animations trough interface are glitching in general. A downgrade after marshmallow if U ask me.
So, here are the questions:
Is there a s8 port that is as close to stock as possible?
-By that I mean that I don't want any addons, like battery themes, sound mods, custom camera (I'm totally fine with s7e camera), custom systemui, etc.
-With battery life that's same as stock s7e nougat? (I get 4-5 hours sot max with 20-25% left, with knox, device mantenance and many other apps disabled with bk disabler)
-I listen to music with poweramp and use the camera very, very often, so I'd need that to work like on stock.
-Fingerprint reader that works like on stock?
-I also use the palm hover gesture to turn the screen on, does s8 port have that option?
-And most important one, does brightness go over the max limit when turned on auto, again like on stock nougat for s7e? Because I need the screen to be as bright in sun like it is now. When I ported roms on my old s5, it never went brighter on auto, and that's why I always returned to stock.
I would very much appreciate if someone could share their thoughts on s8 ports, which are good and if they meet my requirements, I'd like to know if it's worth upgrading since I know that I'll never get the s8 look on my phone by default, because samsung never updates the interface of the old devices like it does with new ones.
Thanks in advance!
