Heat - LG G7 ThinQ Real Life Review

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the LG G7 ThinQ stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.

My phone actually heating up significantly during the initial setup...which is something that I have never experienced before. However, my former phone mysteriously began doing that lately, and dropping data connections. I have since swapped to a new SIM card, as I feel that it might have been the main cause of the problem.
Updates to come later.

First day of ownership I was a little scared of the heating. I always keep screen on 100% brightness. It got decently hot from excessive use(specifically when I was playing PUBG to check out graphics/performance). Since then, nothing. It gets warm during heavy use but it hasn't hit any uncomfortable levels. Maybe that was just a one day thing. I have since put a case on the phone which helps dissipate the heat. I know alot of users complained about the heat with this phone, my assumption is since it is so thin, there isn't any room for air to circulate inside the phone to cool it off, the battery is probably touching straight onto the board and screen. I remember replacing a battery on a moto x pure and the shape of the battery(Looked like this \_/ but more of a 10 degree angle) created a gap which allowed it to cool. The new battery which was flat now touches the board and it causes the phone to heat up more. So I would blame the thinness of the LG G7 for it's heating. I would rate it 4/5 because even though it doesn't get burning hot, it does warm up more than my previous phones(except the htc 10)

The heat management of the internals as well as CPU is superb. On a fine day of temps 30*C, the minimum temps are 27*C and max 36*C on a normal usage. I hope in 3 years time, the battery shouldn't degrade fast like it's predecessors. I hope the battery capacity should stay 3000 mAh in very long term usage. The old phones would feels hot, therefore the battery capacity had reduced.

I don't really play games on phones (I have a PC and PS4 for that) but it does heat up when quick charging wirelessly. Nothing alarming but noticeable.

It's gets warm, but not as bad as the previous G series.

this device overheats while being used for vr, and when being used with amlost any moto mod i have the camera, projector, and jbl speaker and all of them cause the phone to get hot. anyone wanna test? just use a mod for 20 min and then remove it and touch the back its very warm near the pinout. the cpu is in the lower half of the device.
no heat issue unless playing heavy duty game or play 2 hr more video
My last phone was a moto G4 plus which overheated like hell, I play a lot of pokemon go, and the device gets a bit warm, but nothing too much to worry about, also in intensive games gets fairly toasty but really, nothing like other phones. Also consider what it says here about our phone overvolted compared to other phones with the same chip. I actually won't make modifications to the stock rom of this phone until some development gets stronger, but it's possible to get better battery life and most importantly better thermals tweaking some stuff.
i just made a moto mod that cools my phone and recharges it at the same time. PUBG doesn't even get my device hotter than 35c after 2+hours(added the current data from all my testing)

I'll second that, mine gets hot wheels the game pad or turbo mod are connected.
It's possible for the phone to get hot under high loads or when charging, especially with the TurboPower mod, but it's nothing crazy.
Over all, for a titanium back, great thermals.
On benchmark it goes hot as hell. Never do a benchmark again. Was 3D Mark.
01/2019 Real user review Haven't felt any lag even on heavy usage. All apps load pretty fast. RAM management is great! Scrolling is pretty smooth, no complains. On long calls or on updates while charging it can heat up , but nothing considerable.
A8 will be hot? I actually used this phone to play a9, unbelievable.?
Hello friends, I'm from Brazil and I'm translating this message through google. I have a z2 force about 2 years ago, I recently bought a mod 360 camera, The problem is that when I go to make videos the phone heats up more, to the point of starting to catch. The videos from about 12-15 min in duration starts to crash! Does anyone have this problem too?

Razer wasn't kidding when they said that the heat dissipation in this phone is borrowed from their gaming laptop division. This thing can get a little warm but is a far cry from all of the other phones that I have felt and used. Good work Razer. I benchmark like crazy and have not seen it throttle ever.
With the screen at 3/4 brightness and playing Titanfall Assault, the phone gets pretty warm. Which isn't an issue hwoever I notice the touchscreen starts to be less accurate.
Can't say it's been hot, not even sure I can say it's been warm. This is with using the razer rugged case, which is like 2-3mm thick so I think I would probably feel it if it became hotter.
Temps are good when verifying via CPUZ.
Heat dissipation is through the aluminum case itself and as such can get warmer than feels comfortable during heavy use.
When you play graphically heavy games for very long (examples 2 hours on RoS: Rules Of Survival), the phone heats up but its quite slow. Dissipates faster than other flagship phones though
Mine got way too hot too quickly.

Rippu. Try limiting your graphical use. The phone really puts emphasis more into the games and actually pushes your phone to the limits.
I've been doing hours of heavy gaming with MC5 while charging. This phone is slow to heat up, and stays relatively cool. I'm also using a case.

was having some weird issues with heating on 8.0 but now on 8.1 it runs warm as you expect after playing for a some time
Heating while charging
My phone has normal temperatures throughout. Only while charging, it gets hot to around 43 degrees. The max I saw is 46 degrees. The charger shuts off or cuts off the rapid charging without any warning sometimes, as I can see the last full charged time changing on the battery page. This is due to the high temperatures. I have read in the posts online that these temperatures are pretty normal. Does anyone else have similar issue/phenomenon?
I'm recently noticing that my phone gets pretty warm even by casually using the phone for instagram or chatting (basically just having the phone screen on for at least 15-20 minutes). Watching videos will always make it pretty warm now (I don't know exact temperatures, but it feels very warm that I can't keep my skin on the phone for very long without feeling uncomfortable). I used to be able to watch videos while charging the phone as well without the phone significantly getting overheated, but now it even warns me with a notification that it's getting overheated and I should stop. I have a screen protector on both the front and back, and it starts coming off the phone solely because of the overheating.
Not sure when did all this start, but not more than a month or two. Im on Pie and the latest security update. Haven't reset my phone in quite a while.
**EDIT:** Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness was turned off as advised for other issues in the forum, but turning them both back on not only did reduce the heat, but the battery drainage is way less now.

yes its there
heating issue is still there ..

Got the t-mobile version about a week now & I've been noticing it runs warm even when just sitting on the table no charging involved. I've disabled most settings I don't use.
Anyone else running warm??
According to gsmarena
'We should also note that even after extensive benchmark testing, the phone didn't get hot at all. Only the side frame, which is made of metal, tends to get warm but that's normal given the horsepower under the hood. We found the phone to be one of "coolest" ones around with a high-performance SoC.'
Concerned if that isn't true as I'm looking at this phone when the price drops.
Gets hot with GPS and games. Not sure if this is T-Mobile model specific.
I've also got the US T-Mobile version and it seems to get hot/warm using Bluetooth and playing music for roughly 45 mins not if a particular setting causes it or the case I'm using.
Due to this the phone gets a little laggy but cools down once Bluetooth is off.
Very cool surface temps, no different than the N10+ nor 7 Pro in this regard. CPU looks fine. ATT model.

Mine runs hot too, even whilst taking calls the earpiece tends to uncomfortably warm up
If I take only 15-20 shots my Z Fold2 horrible hott
My phone seems to get warm often. Maybe i feel it more because it's a thinner phone. It for sure gets pretty warm every single time I charge my phone. But doing regular tasks like browsing the web, Instagram and watching YouTube makes my phone pretty warm. It happens often
My Z Flip would get baking hot during wireless charging. This phone doesn't even get warm.
I thought it was just me but when I first charged my fold 2 via wired my device got super hot. And I'm coming from owning the OG Fold. Not having a case does make you be more conscious about everything.

My Z Fold 2 gets hot when I charge the device not wirelessly. I thought it was just me as it appears others are reporting heating issues as well. And I'm also coming from owning the OG Fold.
Mine's got a little high too sometimes I don't know why but I keep an eye on it
I had the fold for 4 days now, I have no heating issues whatsoever. Used it couple of times charging while video calling overnight and there were no excess heat battery was at 37 C while charging. All good for me
Mine going to explode
Mine gets warm when charging and a few times in hand while youtubing. Not overly concerned at the moment.
*My Note 7 never got warm, lol.
Hmm, this heat issue is worrying me as really wanted to try this out. Does the heat also happen after a couple of updates?
I never feel mine get warm. Even when playing games for hours. Having said that, the temp reading in perf z gets up to 107 F when playing call of duty for hours. It overall the readings stay cooler than my Note 20 ultra.
