Heat - Nokia 7 Plus Real Life Review

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the Nokia 7 Plus stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.

was having some weird issues with heating on 8.0 but now on 8.1 it runs warm as you expect after playing for a some time

Heating while charging
My phone has normal temperatures throughout. Only while charging, it gets hot to around 43 degrees. The max I saw is 46 degrees. The charger shuts off or cuts off the rapid charging without any warning sometimes, as I can see the last full charged time changing on the battery page. This is due to the high temperatures. I have read in the posts online that these temperatures are pretty normal. Does anyone else have similar issue/phenomenon?

I'm recently noticing that my phone gets pretty warm even by casually using the phone for instagram or chatting (basically just having the phone screen on for at least 15-20 minutes). Watching videos will always make it pretty warm now (I don't know exact temperatures, but it feels very warm that I can't keep my skin on the phone for very long without feeling uncomfortable). I used to be able to watch videos while charging the phone as well without the phone significantly getting overheated, but now it even warns me with a notification that it's getting overheated and I should stop. I have a screen protector on both the front and back, and it starts coming off the phone solely because of the overheating.
Not sure when did all this start, but not more than a month or two. Im on Pie and the latest security update. Haven't reset my phone in quite a while.
**EDIT:** Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness was turned off as advised for other issues in the forum, but turning them both back on not only did reduce the heat, but the battery drainage is way less now.

yes its there
heating issue is still there ..

My P20 Pro gets VERY warm even without gaming under heavy screen usage. Lightroom, google photos, email, hangouts... I then put it in my pants pocket and could feel the heat noticeably till it cooled down.
My p20 pro is still pretty cold as it hasn't arrived yet
I've been surprised at the lack of heat!
Weird. Mine is fine. Something sucking up cpu time in the background maybe?
Mine gets quite warm even after light use (especially in the upper left corner).
Does the same happen to you? Is it normal?

Hi, same thing happens to me, albeit after a bit longer/more demanding use.
I've noticed when playing PUBG only, after the latest update that gives the game suite and some sec updates i think, the phone becomes warm, and then the heat from the battery/cpu interferes with the touchscreen and exactly where my finger is to move in pubg, its the warmest.
Thus it stops registering my finger and i quit moving in the game, wouldn't notice this on daily use of course, but i think it is a huge issue. Not because i died multiple times due to that in the game, but as it is a new and kindof premium phone, this shouldn't happen at all and was working perfectly for 2 months before that.
I've even installed an app to measure the temperature and it goes up to about 49 degrees celsius.
Any ideas?
Don't have any issue. Was using iPhone 6 and it was literally burning while am playing any game.
This device is far from getting warm compared to iPhone 6 and 7.
I'd say the P20 Pro is average when it comes to heat during use. It will never get uncomfortably hot, but can get fairly warm when gaming.

My phone actually heating up significantly during the initial setup...which is something that I have never experienced before. However, my former phone mysteriously began doing that lately, and dropping data connections. I have since swapped to a new SIM card, as I feel that it might have been the main cause of the problem.
Updates to come later.
First day of ownership I was a little scared of the heating. I always keep screen on 100% brightness. It got decently hot from excessive use(specifically when I was playing PUBG to check out graphics/performance). Since then, nothing. It gets warm during heavy use but it hasn't hit any uncomfortable levels. Maybe that was just a one day thing. I have since put a case on the phone which helps dissipate the heat. I know alot of users complained about the heat with this phone, my assumption is since it is so thin, there isn't any room for air to circulate inside the phone to cool it off, the battery is probably touching straight onto the board and screen. I remember replacing a battery on a moto x pure and the shape of the battery(Looked like this \_/ but more of a 10 degree angle) created a gap which allowed it to cool. The new battery which was flat now touches the board and it causes the phone to heat up more. So I would blame the thinness of the LG G7 for it's heating. I would rate it 4/5 because even though it doesn't get burning hot, it does warm up more than my previous phones(except the htc 10)
The heat management of the internals as well as CPU is superb. On a fine day of temps 30*C, the minimum temps are 27*C and max 36*C on a normal usage. I hope in 3 years time, the battery shouldn't degrade fast like it's predecessors. I hope the battery capacity should stay 3000 mAh in very long term usage. The old phones would feels hot, therefore the battery capacity had reduced.
I don't really play games on phones (I have a PC and PS4 for that) but it does heat up when quick charging wirelessly. Nothing alarming but noticeable.
It's gets warm, but not as bad as the previous G series.

This is by far the coolest phone I have run. I'm currently at 75° CPU. Unheard of. Never gets over 100° **** you Celsius people
Mine overheated and shut down today. I was using Waze in Android Auto for about 4 hours. Temp in the car was 70 degrees fahrenheit or less during the trip.

Have you contacted Google? That seems a little out of whack, and I haven't seen other complaints along these lines.
Regardless, let us know how things go.
Thanks!

I just finished up a six hour trip where I used Waze and maps in Android Auto and did not have any heat issues today. If it happens again I'll contact Google.
What program do you use to look at the temperature?
Because I have used several and it is in the sun, in the car and charging the maximum battery at 50 degrees, and when it is in that area the phone becomes extremely slow.
Heating
Today when changing reach 65%, my phone for heat. dont know why suddenly my phone is heating.

With normal phone usage phone doesn't heat up at all. When I'm heavy multitasking _watching a YouTube video while downloading a a torrent and reading a manga using tachiyomi and charging at the same time it does get noticeably warm but does not lag or become unbearable to hold
Does get warm when using for extended periods for gaming/ heavy usage, but doesn't slow down
From all the mobiles I've used in the past, I find Galaxy A50 the best one in handling the Heat. It stays cool in heavy usages
Well... no heating issues here. I would say that I am a normal user. Some games some YouTube, emails and web browsing. Have the phone only 2 days so too early to say...
I notice device gets hot on charging and while making some calls too
while playing PUBG it stays at 58-59 FPS for the first 10-15 minutes but then it goes up and down and and finally settles at around 45 Fps during extended play. Device Stays little warm not too hot

I'm at 80%
Setting up my phone for the first time. Took at off charger to set up. Cold as Ice. I don't know what people are talking about. Phones heat up when charging and pushed to the limit. Every phone I ever had.
It did get a bit warm the first day while putting it through the paces. So far haven't experienced that in normal use though.
It does get pretty hot. That's not very promising for long term battery life.
Mine doesn't even get warm while charging, in use and charging i might see 34c every now and then.
